Classic - TV Out v1.0.2

So with v1.0.2 you can change from On/Off/Ask...
...did this fix any problems for any users?
Since all it did was bring you to a "Please Connect Video Accessory" screen, I can't imagine how this could possibly have resolved any of the concerns users have had with the iPod Classic video out issue.
Please post if you can think of any tangeable difference in the TV Out issue between 1.0.1 and 1.0.2

The bug fixed by enabling the TV Out selection in firmware v1.0.2 is related to the ASK function. Previously the ASK setting was reset every time a compatible cable was disconnected, thus negating any benefit from selecting this option.
So Apple just moved the TV Out lock for accessories without an authorization chip down a level.

  • Just took my iPod classic 160GB out of box turned it on and accidently hit clickwheel or button and eveything is in language other than english.  How do I get it back to english without being able to read symbols.

just took my iPod classic 160GB out of box, turned it on and accidentially hit a button changing the language from english to something else (chinese or japanese).  All I see now is symbols.  How do I turn it back to english without knowing what any of these symbols mean.  I started clicking buttons and click wheel and can't seem to get to any section with various language options.  Please some help me get it back to english.

There are two options. The first is to learn whatever language you have it set to, the second is to find someone else with an iPod Classic and read the English menu and follow it in your iPod. I also believe you may be able to set language perfunces from within iTunes while the iPod is docked, providing they are in English.

  • Cover flow on IPod Classic is out of order

The cover flow on my Classic is out of order, not alphabetical by artirst. Most of the albums are in order, but there is about a dozen that are after "Z" (for example Cream. Should be in the C section, where it is in ITunes. Any ideas?

Never hurts to reset the device just in case that helps.
Confirm that the Sort Artist fields for the affected tracks are actually empty instead of containing one or more invisible spaces. Note that iTunes groups on Album Artist (order amended by Sort Album Artist) whereas the iPod Classic groups on Artist (order amended by Sort Artist).
See the section Missing or Artist or Album not with others by same artist which explains that enabling one or both of Settings > Main Menu > Compilations or Settings > Music Menu > Compilations can affect where tracks appear in cover flow.
The iTunes Store tends to mark albums that include any featured artists, or form an anthology of an artist's work, as part of a compilation to mitigate some of iTunes historically poor track grouping issues. Depending on your preferences within iTunes this flag may not have any noticable effect in iTunes, but may control what happens on the device.
Even though you can't see where the problem lies it may help to amend the track details in the way I describe at Tried that, there are STILL too many covers and then resync the device.

  • Why is the music list for my ipod classic grayed out in itunes?

why is the music list for my ipod classic grayed out in itunes?

I have a similar problem.  Originally, my iTunes advanced setting was set such that a shortcut to the song was copied into my music library so sometimes copying songs to my iPod resulted in them being grayed out.  I changed that setting some time ago and haven't had the problem until recently.
I don't know what to do.  here's the situation:
         1.  I have a song that is stored on my file system within My Documents. (it was purchased via Amazon)
         2.  Through iTunes I choose the File | Import file to library (or some text like that)
         3.  I navigate to the location of the song
         4.  I import it.
         5.  I can play the tune from the music library or from an internal PC playlist.
         6.  I then attempt to copy the song to my iPod.  When I do, it appears in the iPod's playlist grayed out.
I have done those steps countless times for dozens of songs without a problem.  Even others that I've purchased through Amazon.  What is so different this time?  I should mention that this problem NEVER happens if I buy the song through the iTunes store.  Only if I buy it from another source (e.g. Amazon).  WHY ???

  • Cannot delete songs from iPod Classic - grayed out in playlist

I'm ready to throw this thing out the window. I already had a shuffle, my daughter had a Nano and got a Classic for Christmas. iTunes seems to have no idea how to keep all this straight. When I plugged her new Classic in, it uploaded all of our songs, and (strangely), she doesn't want my songs. I just want to delete them from her Classic, but the songlist of what she has is all gray. I'm afraid to plug any other devices in because who knows what the **** it'll mess up. If only I could figure out how to contact Support.....

    Create a new playlist.
Have her put all the music she wants in that playlist.
    Plug in the ipod.
    Click the Music tab.
    Tick Sync music.
    Tick Selected playlists.
Tick the playlist with her music, then click Apply.
When she wants to add or delete stuff from her iPod, add/remove it from that playlist, then plug in the iPod.

  • My ipod classic ran out of battery, when I turned it back on all my songs were gone. How can I recover them on a windows vista computer? Also, the itunes on my vista does not have all my original songs. Please help

My Ipod Classic died because it ran out of battery. Finally, today when I was able to plug it into my computer to
charge it, all my music was gone. It did not show up on the Itunes nor was it present on my Ipod. Which freaked
me out.  I dont know what to do because I do have Itunes but all the music I had on my Ipod was from my
first computer, which I no longer have because it was stolen.  However, on my Itunes it says my Ipod
has 14.27 GB used and 13.55 FREE. So I just want to know how to get my music back on to my Ipod
and that it shows up in Itunes again. I have a Windows Vista so if anyone knows instructions it would
    be greatly appreciated!

  • The Cover Flow on my iPod classic is out of order

I use the cover flow option on my iPod classic to get to the music I want to listen to and discovered that my albums are out of order in regards of being alphabetical order by artists. For example the greatest hits and soundtracks and other compilations are moved to the back instead of being in order with the artist that made the album. Is there anyone that can help me resolve this issue?

See my previous post on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic Missing Artist or Album not with others by same artist.

  • Classical movements out of order--new problem

My classical movements for one composer are out of order, and they are in the same order as when I had the artist box at the top highlighted in iTunes. I might have had it sorted that way accidentally when they were imported to my iPOD. They are resorted correctly now in iTunes but they are still out of order for that composer in the iPOD. I had to manually type in all the info so I know there aren't id3 tags. How can I resort these--delete them on the iPOD and replace them? If so, how do I do that?

When you imported your CDs their track numbers were recorded and iTunes checked "Part of a compliation" in Get Info. iTunes knows the proper sequence of tracks, you just have to tell iTunes to actually play them that way.
There are two easy ways to do this. One is to sort the tracks by clicking the "Track Number" column. The other way is to sort by "Genre". Assuming all the tracks have the identical "Genre", iTunes will default to sorting them in order of the track number. They will then play in the order you expect.
I prefer the second method because it will maintain order spanning multiple CDs.
If either the Genre or Track Number columns are not visible, use the View menu, select "Show view options..." and check "Track Number" and / or "Genre" as is your preference.

  • IPod classic cutting out

So I have seen this post elsewhere but I didnt see an answer to it so I'm gonna try it.
    I have the 160GB Classic MC297LL running 2.0.4.
When it is in my pocket, I always slide the "Lock" switch over so I don't make unwanted changes by locking out the front panel.
After a certain amount of time (seems like 5 minutes or so), the musci cuts out and the only way I can re-instate my vibes is to slide the "Lock" switch over. Kinda frustrating during a good workout session or a good run.
Anyone else encountered this? Is there a fix?
    Cheers

There are a few possibilities with this scenario.  The first is that the motion of your workout is the iPod's hard drive which was/is not designed to withstand a lot of motion.
Also, another feature of the iPod Classic is the auto pause feature that is activated when the iPod detects that the headphones are no longer connected.  Have you tried a different set of earbuds to see if that makes a difference?  For some reason, the iPod could be thinking that the headphones have been disconnected from again the movement of your workout.  Sliding the lock swtich off and then back on allows the iPod to detect the headset again.
It might be worth working through the usual 5 R's of troubleshooting to rule out the possibility of a software glitch/error.

  • IPod Classic Video Out Question

    Hello Everyone,
I would like to connect an iPod Classic 160GB to my car stereo with a screen and use TV out to navigate the menus of the iPod. Is this possible or does the TV out function only work on actual video and not navigating through menus? Thanks.

I have exactly the same issues. I can't believe what I hear when I compare Ipod classic with iphone 4S. The same song play on IPhone 4S with EQ set to Classical is perfectly smooth and clear but the same EQ in IPOD classic have the sound clipped and distorted. The drum cracks into many pieces instead of a solid 'TUD!' in iphone 4S. Try this songs on both devices, you will know what I mean:
    Ann Sally - O Barquinho.
IPOD classics plays it like a piece of  badly torn fabric, but on IPhone 4S the sound is perfect. Stevenfromwi is correct, it is about harmonic distortion (clipping of the sound) which no one can find it pleasing. Just try out the song above by setting both IPOD and IPHONE to Classical EQ and you will know what I mean.
When I search the reviews of IPOD classics, I am surprised that expert reviewers have long known about this issue of IPOD classics and put it as one of the long-standing and thumb-down problem of IPOD classics. See the review below:
    http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/mp3-players/272431/apple-ipod-classic-160gb
("...It's disappointing that Apple hasn't completely fixed the audio distortion..." ~ extracted from the article)
I will have to sell away my IPOD classics and find other media player now since I really cannot accept the clipping of sound. It is very dissapointing!!!

  • I just bought a new 160gb classic because my 80gb classic ran out of room. Can i import all the music on my 80gb to my 160 gb and maintain seperate libraries-----Tom

I just bought a new Classic 160gb because i ran out of room on my Classic 80gb. Can i copy all the music from my 80gb Classic on my 160 gb and still maintain seperate libraries----------Thank You  ---Tom

Yes.  The music on the old iPod will need to be stored in your iTunes library on your computer though for you to sync it over to the new iPod.  See this article for different ways to handle multiple iPods with one computer.

  • 6720 Classic TV-Out option

    Hello All
The 6720 is listed on the specs page of Nokia.com as having the TV-Out facillity.  The CA75u TV Out cable is a recommended option.  This is one of the reasons I chose it as a gift.
Can anybody with a 6720 tell me if they have used this function?
I cannot get it to work.
The settings for it are in the phone and are set correctly.  The cable is known to be good.
I just cant get any video from the 6720 though the audio did go through the last time I tried it.
Also, after removing the TV Out cable, no audio can be heard on incoming calls though the speaker still plays stored video soundtracks or ringtones etc.  The phone becomes useless until cycled off and on again at which time received call audio is restored.
Its running the latest firmware (haha).  My first post to the forums was about bricking it during the update.
Appart from the style, to say I am not overly impressed with this phone so far would be a moderate understatement.
Regards all and thanks in advance for any info.

    The story continues...
When I ordered this phone from the online shop (including express delivery which took 6 days) I was served by a very nice person with good comprehension who told me if there were any problems, in fact even if the recipient simply didn't like the phone as a gift, I could just call customer services and they would collect for immediate refund or exchange.
Well I did have problems (wrong charger/firmware update bricked it/no TV-Out) and I did phone up and they DIDN'T honour the sales pitch!!!! I was told I had to take the phone to my nearest NSC. There was no point in them sending me a charger at this point as I would have no phone but they told me I could call again when the phone was fixed and the charger would be sorted.
The NSC said they could not swap the charger, I would have to recontact customer services for that but they would fix the phone.
Well it turns out they couldn't fix the phone either and sent it back to Nokia.
I phoned Nokia again, explained the NSC couldn't fix my phone and they offered me the address of another NSC!!! Oh how I larffed (NOT!)  I tried to explain that I could not go to another NSC now as the first NSC had sent my phone away but the message seemed to get lost in the translation.
Anyway I eventually gave up and just waited... and waited ...and waited some more, my poor old Ma without her phone for something like 3 weeks plus!
Eventually I got a call from the local NSC to say that my phone was ready for collection.  There was no fault report, no explanation of any kind and the phone had been replaced.  I asked the NSC if they could check it had the latest firmware (as I did not want to brick it again) and was told they were only allowed to do the work Nokia paid for and therefore would not do the update. I collected what was supposed to be a new phone (I have my doubts) and left.
On Monday I called "aftersales" to see about the charger and got through to a translationally challenged call centre again.  I was told that I should have called within 28 days and basically I couldn't have one. After a lot of slow phonetic spelling of my details, the operative said they would have to speak to a supervisor but that there was no supervisor available. I was promised a return call but guess what ? it didn't come!  So I called back the next day (that would be GROUNDHOG DAY!!!!) and had exactly the same sort of protracted, pointless, circular conversation with somebody who obviously didn't have a clue what they were talking about. and guess what? I was promised a return call.  I explained to the operative that I was working, that I could not answer my mobile whilst on site but gave them a landline number.  I asked that they call the landline first but that it was a very busy works line and to leave a message on my voicemail or even email me (they had that addy too) if they couldn't get through.
Well, at least they rang back this time!  ON MY MOBILE! just before my shift ended on Wednesday!
They told me that a charger would be dispatched that night and thanked me for answering the call????
To my surprise the charger actually arrived this morning!
So it's now the 11th of February and my poor old Ma finally has her Christmas present.
I also called the sales line again to ask about the TV-out cable.  (I may be being cynical here but it's funny how the people who's job it is to TAKE MONEY have no trouble understanding you!)
They confirmed that my existing, known good and tested CA75 cable is the same for both the N95 8GB and the 6720c so no problem there then.
The only thing is Ma now doesn't want me to plug in the TV-out lead in case the phone breaks again so (A) one of the main reason for purchasing this model was a waste of money and (B) I may never find out if works or not and thats bugging me.
Anywho, to bring this fiasco to a close,  I am not exactly overly impressed with Nokia.
I think the product is being built down to a price and it shows!  I think the aftersales service is being sourced to a price and it shows.
In fact I think Nokia have become like a caricature of there former self and need to take a long hard look at how they do things.
I was about to invest in the new N900 and probably a Booklet 3G eventually.  I suspect I have probably re evaluated that purchasing decision slightly in the last few weeks.

  • IPod classic digital out?

The next generation of Kenwood car stereos features a "1-Wire" digital connection for the Classic:
    http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/products/car/cd_receivers/KDC-W5541U/detail s/
The description on the German Kenwood website even says:
"The (audio) signal is transmitted digitally to the receiver, leaving the D/A-conversion to the DACs of the receiver".
Cool! Does something similar come as a dock (any brand)? Was this possible with the 5th generation iPod as well?? Anyway, it sounds very promising for all those complaining about the 'changed' sound quality compared to the 5th generation...
    Any info appreciated

    Hello Kyn,
Thanks for the link! That kind of dock was exactly what I was thinking of . I'd even seriously consider spending that money on it. I hope more 'competitors' will/are allowed to use the 'authenticated' way of audio reproduction, as it would definitely make the iPod a worthy hifi component... I'll be on the lookout .
    Greetings,
    Matko

  • Ipod Classic TV out Problem

I bought the apple Component AV cable. When i hooded it up I get sound and a picture but my screen has a double picture on it. On one side I have the show playing and and the other side I have the same show playing. Does any one know why this is happening. I have a Samsung TV, and I am using the Componet AV on the TV.

Is this a newer HDTV? If not, you might be seeing this because the new iPod classic sends a progressive signal via component and your TV only accepts an interlaced signal via component in?
