Classic vs Touch

When I used to hook up my old Classic it would show up in iTunes immediately. With the new Touch there is a significant delay - so much so that I oftn switch USB (all of which are working).
Is this typical or have I a problem?

Hello,
It depends what you mean by significant delay. My iPod touch certainly seems to take longer to appear in iTunes than the iPod nano but it's only about 10 seconds.

I have an ipod classic and want an ipod touch however some of my music is only found on my classic is there a way to transfer my music from my classic to touch...no i can not get it to back up on my computer or disc etc

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There is no built-in way of transfering music from the +iPod nano+. Can't you transfer the music/playlists to the +iPod touch+ from the original iTunes library content?

  • ITunes-- iPod Classic, iPod Touch, iPhone 4 - What to do, what to do....

Like everyone else, I've been eagerly anticipating the arrival of the iPhone 4. Unlike everyone else, I was disappointed in the release, but only in one respect - I thought for SURE that Apple would be releasing a 64GB model. No go, what a letdown!
So here is my dilemma...I currently have no iPhone. I have a 64GB iPod Touch 3G that is loaded with some 6000 songs, videos, applications, notes, etc. I actually purchased a 32GB model first, got the error about not enough room, returned it, got the 64GB model. iTunes tells me that I am currently using 49.41GB, of which 27.54GB is music, 16.62 is video, and the rest is incidental. That's a problem.
I also have an 80GB iPod Classic, which I sync to the same iTunes library. And I have another computer, currently without iTunes.
You can probably see where I'm going with this...I firmly believe in carrying around every piece of music that you've ever owned, because you never know Either I have to change my thinking, or employ one of several possible ideas that have been thrown out there for me:
1.) Install iTunes on computer #2, load up all music, sync it to the iPod Classic. Whittle down the current iTunes Library on computer #1 to something less than 32GB, and the iPhone becomes a "greatest hits" music library for me. Probably the easiest road with some obvious disadvantages.
2.) Back up my entire MP3 library onto external disk, and let iTunes convert those MP3 files over to some lower quality AAC files. I would probably still have to whittle down the library substantially to get below that 32GB threshold.
3.) Figure out some way of getting one iTunes library to sync differently with two different devices, I don't think it's possible. But I do know that there's some way that iTunes realizes that you don't have enough room and will sync to some sort of "iPod Playlist" if available.
4.) Pray that Apple comes to its senses and releases a 64GB model before I jump on the bandwagon.
    Anyone have any other ideas?

With your iPod connected, click on your iPod on the left pane under "Devices." Look at the Summary tab, and you will see the option "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC." Next time you sync, it will place 128 versions onto your iPod/iPhone.
Be aware that the first time you use this option, syncing will be extraordinarily slow, since it must do an on-the-fly conversion of each song. In my case, the first sync took 9 hours. On later syncs, it will be quicker, since it does not have to re-convert the ones that are already on the device.

  • Classic to Touch HELP!!!

Ok, Call me crazy but when I got my touch I was "yea nice" now I am not so sure.
On my classic I could go to an artist, sorted by album, hit play all songs and I would get. Album "A" songs 1-10 in order then Album "B" songs 1-10 all in nice order and be able to listen to every artist in album / track order in sequence. NOW I have a touch and I can play only 1 album at a time OR I have to go through and put EVERY artist in its own play list. Where are all the sort functions?
    <Edited by Host>

Hi there, unfortunately I don't know the answer (other than to create a playlist for EACH artist which to me defeats the real purpose of playlists..). I am in EXACTLY the same situation. Just bought my first Ipod touch (64GB) having been very happy user of the Classic for the last few years. It makes no sense to play songs alphabetically if you want to listen to all songs by an artist! For e.g. if you have a few 'greatest hits' compilations you end up listening to the same song several times. Surely it makes sense to group artists' songs by albums, as the Classic does. Is there any way we can get around this? What's the possibility that Apple will fix it? Otherwise I will have to return my Touch and go back to my ancient classic. Much as I like the Touch's many functions, at the end of the day it has to work as a MUSIC PLAYER for me!

  • Ipod classic or touch with Kensington Digital FM Transmitter/Auto Charger

    Hey everyone,
As I am sure with a thousand others, I am thinking about getting one of the new ipods. After reading about the video out problem, which is one of the main reasons I was thinking of upgrading from my 3G(pre video/photo ipod, can't remember which generation) 20 g ipod, I am beginning to doubt my desire. What has become foremost in my mind now, however, is the problem with existing accesories. Does anyone know if either ipods will work with the Kensington fm transmitter/auto charger that I bought last year? I spent $70 on it and after reading about having to buy a universal dock and apple cables to enable video out, this has me concerned.
    Thanks,
    Greg

    greg,
have an ipod classic and have been using the older kensington fm rds adapter (not the new liquid ones recently announced). it works, but with a caveat. on mine, the on-screen display does not update in real-time as you change the radio station on the transmitter. so, it's tough to scroll to a different channel to find an open frequency because you can't see where you are scrolling to (i count the presses and update the numbers in my head). but, the presets work and if you never (or rarely) need to change the radio station, you should be fine.

  • Wanting to Buy IPOD TOUCH or CLASSIC

    Hi all,
Just wondering which one I should go for either the Classic or Touch. Just wondering about peoples opinion prior to purchasing one. I intend to buy one by the morning of the 26th Australia Day
    cheers Mick

Some of the key advantages and disadvantages of the iPod touch are as follows:
    Advantages.
    Larger screen for video playback
Safari Web Browser and WiFi for web access at any WiFi hotspot/home.
    Flash memory is faster
    Beautiful interface
Add, edit and remove Calendar and Contacts
Add, Edit and Email Notes buy they don't sync to Mac/PC
Add 3rd party apps (from Feb 08 - cost???)
Flash Memory is much less prone to damage.
Email access in WiFi hotspots, offline composing and read of email
Google Maps and Directions (one prepared set of directions isavailable offline)
    Weather and Stocks widgets
    Disadvantages
    No disk mode
    Reduced battery life
No offline Games (until Feb anyhow)
    No To Do function
    Unable to view Podcast notes.
    Much smaller storage
In the end it depends on your needs. Go to the shop and try the touch. If you don't get the "wow" then perhaps go for the classic this time.
    cheers

  • Belkin TuneCommand: Does it work with the Classic?

I am interested in buying the Belkin AV TuneCommand, but wanna know if it will work with my 80GB iPod Classic. Can someone help me?

I have used the TuneCommand AV with both a 30GB iPod with video (5th gen.) and 1st gen. iPod touch 16GB.
Apple introduced video-out restrictions with the iPods Classic and Touch, so that only their iPod Universal Dock (the one with the slit infra-red receiver) and dock-connector AV cables will allow TV out from these later devices.
However, the TuneCommand works fine for the iPod Touch except for video-out. It handles audio-out and the RF remote control works. It also charges the iPod.
I suspect the same with be true for the iPod Classic.

  • Music fade feature for Ipod Classic?

I was recently listening to a new Itouch and noticed that when I was listening to a song and then selected a new song without letting the current song finish, the music on the "Now Playing" song fades away. How can I get my Ipod classic to perform this function?

You can send feedback/feature requests directly to Apple at this link. However existing Classics and Touches are quite different devices so it may not be something that's technically possible on existing Classics. It might be something that could be introduced on a future version: Apple Product Feedback

  • Windows 8.1 and touch screen availability

I'm used to use Windows 8.1 and could be interested in a W540. I've however observed, that W540 is only being shipped with the one year older Windows 8 despite Windows 8.1 was actually RTM'ed before W540 began shipping.
Will there be W540 announced with Windows 8.1 or W540 stops with Windows 8?
Nobody needs to respond that I can just upgrade to Windows 8.1 because I don't want to fiddle with the imperfections caused by this.
Will W540 be released with a touch screen or it'll stay with a classic non-touch "output-only" screen?
    Best regards,
    Henrik Dahl

First, the rumor is that touch on the W540 will be available H1, but not earlier. If you look at Dell's M3800 with touch, they have delays until mid-March with their Retina touch panels, so it'll take a while for the W540 to be available with touch. It is also possible that the W540 won't be available with touch until Intel's Haswell refresh comes out, but who knows.
Second, if you install the Windows 8.1 upgrade, please take care to check the "Brick your W540" thread, as there is something wrong with the bios and Intel Rapid Start-up Technology. It may result in your motherboard's failure, so disable RST before doing so.

  • Is Cisco VPN posible for Windows Phone 8.1

    Hello,
Microsoft released Windows Phone 8.1 on April and it supports VPN connections.
So I would like to ask:
Is Cisco going to release Anyconnect Secure Mobility Client for Windows Phone 8.1?
Maybe someone managed to make clientless connection with ASA 9.1( for example IKEv2 or SSL-VPN) ?
Or should I abandon idea of connecting WP 8.1 with ASA?
    Thanks.

    Hi  aurimas88 ,
Looks like AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client 2.5  is supported for windows phone , however W 8.1 mobile has not been tested by Cisco , We cannot guarantee compatibility.
AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client 3.0 Windows Mobile Devices Not Supported
AnyConnect version 3.0 and later do not support Microsoft Windows Mobile or Windows Phone. However, you can continue to use the ASA to deploy the AnyConnect 2.5 or earlier client for Windows Mobile even after loading the AnyConnect 3.0 package files to the ASA for web deployment.
AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client 2.5 Windows Mobile Devices Supported
We designed AnyConnect 2.5 for compatibility with Windows Mobile 6.5, 6.1, 6.0 and 5.0 Professional and Classic for touch-screens only. Users have reported success with most touch-screens running these versions of Windows Mobile. • Video out to tv not working

    Hello,
I just unpacked my new iPod classic and wanted to use the video out option to watch a movie from my new iPod on my TV. Somehow I can get the "TV Out" setting to say "ask" or "TV" like on my last iPod video 5.5. Does anybody know what is causing this problem or do I have to return the item? It´s a real bugger!
I also experienced the click wheel response is very, very slow!
Looking forward to reading your thoughts on this...

From what I have read, no, what you wish to do will not work. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I hope that it's possible for Apple to rectify this problem with a firmware update. If that's not possible (e.g. it's a hardware-based problem), they should just issue a recall of all classics, fix the hardware, and rerelease it later after the problem has been corrected.
It is unimaginable to me that Apple could have intended to invalidate monumental quantities of third-party (and even their own!) accessories for those who bought the new classics and touches and nanos. I mean, these are some of Apple's best customers: those who have purchased multiple iPods and bought into the whole accessory market too. Most companies are hesitant to burn their best customers like this, and for good reason: this kind of stuff can easily turn loyal customers into former customers, and via word-of-mouth can also turn potential customers into non-customers.

  • Please help me with a very difficult decision....

    Hi guys,
I sold my 2nd Gen iPod Nano in the summer, I needed the money. I am a student, and I need to be able to carry my iPod around with me in my POCKET wherever I go. My library of music is only 5gb, but with everything it is 12gb. I am debating between the 8gb nano, the 80gb classic and the 16gb touch. I went to the apple store 3 times, and keep falling in love with the touch. I quickly made a new playlist in iTunes, deleting full albums that I never listen to (a few to mention would be Frank Sinatra and The Doors :P) and added in a few of my TV shows and Podcasts. With half of my music, all 6 of my tv shows, my one music video, and 36 of my 291 podcasts, I have gotten the total to 438 items totaling 6.76gb, and I also plan on adding around 5 or 6 photo albums. Sounds easy, right? Sure, this will all fit on the touch. My problem is that I plan to be buying videos and tv shows. The reason I only have 1 music video, 6 tv shows, and no movies is that who wants to watch them on your computer? I have been hearing about the classic, a lot. I don't mind the slower interface, mainly because apple will take care of that in software updates. I do care about the durability and life of the internal hard drive. How long with this thing last? Next, I would like to know the durability of the iPod touch. I do realize the screen is nearly impossible to scratch. But what about dropping? It is glass, after all. I have seen video of dropping iPhones with no damage, but this thing is smaller, thinner, and seems like it would take a fall harder. I also don't like a few things about it, such as the inability to quickly change tracks, turn the sound down, and pause tracks. The nano is very nice, but if I don't get the touch, I am basically getting the same storage as the touch without the extra nice features. I have wifi in my house, and it would be cool to get internet everywhere in my house, seeing as another family member has a laptop, not I. The iPods I have owned in the past are the 1st gen shuffle (512mb), 2 of the 2nd gen minis (4gb), and a 2nd gen 2gb ipod nano. Not one of them held my music. I absolutly refuse to have to change tracks every time I sync my iPod. I dont mind not having albums never listen to on there though. And if you really think about it, who needs ALL of their movies and TV shows on their iPod? It is nice, but a bigger screen is also very nice. This is my Christmas gift from my parents, I have a long way to go until I get it. As a student I want a durable and functional player. I have always been a fan of the standard iPod design, but love the touchscreen. Cover flow is amazing on it. I will not buy anything but an Apple product, I have been using iTunes since it came out for PC. My favorite iPod I owned was my mini, if they had a nice revamped version of that it would be mine. I like the nano's, my sis is getting the blue one for christmas. One big concern for me is battery life. The Touch has reports of terrible battery life, which I greatly dislike. The nano and classic are supposed to have good life, though. Let me know what you all think, I really need help on this. I wish I could borrow each for a day and see which I like the best, but thats not happening. Thanks a lot.

I am in the same situation as you as a student. Though i did sell my old 2nd gen ipod nano that i really loved. I just decided after the announcement of the new ipods i would upgrade to a ipod touch. so i sold my nano and put the money from it towards my new touch. Since having it I have felt very comfortable using it cause i also have a small music library and my videos i.e. music videos, tv shows, movies. I dont like switching my music often either but i do make smart playlists or a regular playlist to have the music that i listen to often. I also got rid of dead albums or tracks like bob marley :P
I seriously have to say that i tried out the classic and touch in the apple store and just hated the classic UI and how slow it was. Yeah i think they fixed that already with a firmware update recently but really the screen on the classic is just sad add the UI and i just hated it. The touches UI is super and really easy to use once you get used to it. The only thing that i miss is the "Blind Control" i had with the click wheel. you know just blindly touch the click wheel to turn it up or change songs. That cannot happen with the touch so you gotta take t out all the time. BUT with the size and how thin it is it is very similar to the nano. And it fits so nicely in the pocket +with a case of course+ and its light so you dont recognize it like the classic does and its bulkiness it has. I really think the touch is a perfect upgrade for nano owners.
With the screen size it makes all the older and current ipods so sad. I mean 3.5 inch screen. I really enjoy my music videos now! Also the ability to connect to the internet via wifi has become such a great thing for me as a student. My home and campus is all wifi so i can access the net anywhere for free. Plus its nice having to drag my laptop around too. THe battery life has been great for me. I do have the auto brightness on and i always turn off the wifi when its not in usage. THat tends to drain it quickly. I have not watched a movie yet on my touch but I can watch tv shows and music videos just great with the battery holding up well. I also make sure to charge it every night. For more info on the ipod battery check out this link.
    http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipods.html
The ipod touch screen holds up well because it is optical quality glass and i dropped my ipod touch in its case today but it wasn't damaged thank goodness!
