Classic won't launch FCP 2.0 or DVDSP 1.0

Yeah...I know spending the money on software upgrades would solve this problem, but until I win the Lotto, I have to get by with what I already have.
Anyway, using the install disks to install the FCP 2.0 and DVDSP 1.0, I did not get the chance to plug-in serial numbers so I feel the install was a bust.
Is there some sort of compatability issue going on here?

I think you're reading that backwards. In order to use a PCI Express card, you have to have FCP 5.0.3. But it'll work with AGP cards, which the PowerBooks have if they're relatively recent.
FCP 5 runs on a 17" PowerBook. Obviously, it's not going to run like it does on a G5, but it works. At work, they do rough edits on laptops with external drives and then hook the drive up to a G5 to add music, graphics, etc. I think the ones at work are mostly 1.5 GHz machines.
I didn't install DVDSP 4 on my laptop because of the drive space, but it should work, too.

Classic won't launch after upgrade to Tiger

I have a user who's machine was just upgraded to 10.4.5, and now Classic won't launch.
I copied the system files from the resource folder in case they were corrupt, but it didn't help.
I tried to launch classic with extensions off, no go.

when you try to launch Classic, it opens the start window and just hangs. Left it for half an hour, and it never launched.
I looked for the DivX file in /Library/application support, nothing there.
classic worked fine under 10.3.9.
Any thoughts on what to do next? Is it safe to reinstall OS 9.2 overtop or is a complete wipe and load necessary (hope not, as user has beaucoup third party apps).

Classic won't launch

I just upgraded to 10.4 and made the grave error of not upgrading my OS 9.0.4 to 9.2.2 before installing Tiger. I only upgraded to 9.1. Now, when I try to launch my classic environment, it will not launch. I downloaded the upgrade for 9.2 but cannot install as the classic will not launch, hence my dilema. Any suggestions?

CLASSIC doesn't launch on any new accounts

based upon ffeback from others in this forum re: CLASSIC problems in launching for specific login users in OS 10.39, I proceeded to delete the "problem" account names, and create new ones.
This worked for one new account, but not for any others.
Now, every new account I create (whether an administrative or regular account), Classic will not launch. It hangs up near the end of the launch cycle.
I do not believe that repairig permissions will help.
Any other ideas?

Your note: You have TWO system folders that the app. can see. Verify that all acct's are using the same one.
answer: I have checked and double checked. Both user accounts were set to the same start-up folder, which is the second drive I am currently booting from. This drive is a 30 GB ata, which I installed on the computer myself.
With all accounts set to that start up folder, account#3 will not launch classic, even if permissions are scaled back.
Your note: Check your acct. and open Systems Preferences>Classic and start from Macintosh HD. Shut down, logout and do the same with the problem acct. I want to see if both acct's are opening the same System Folder or if the problem is the acct. is starting from the back-up.
Answer: During a test to launch Classic from Macintosh HD (the original 10GB disc), Classic launches succesfully on the main admin account in addition to account #3.

You said that you had two users set up as Administrator. That may be the problem, it's just a guess but I think Classic sees you as the admin and when a second admin. showes up it get confused. You can give almost all admin. rights to another user with "Some Limitations"..
Answer: During my latest test, I attempted to restrict access to the two other users. This did not change the fact Classic won't launch from the system folder located in the 30 GB drive for user #3 . Interestingly, when I set user#3 to "some limits," and without admin access, I could not login to the OS 10 desktop under her account. When I set that account to "some limits" (without admin access), I could login and launch Classic ONLY from Macintosh HD.
What I am I mssing here?

FCP 6 won't launch

I had FCP 5.0.1 and one day and all of the sudden, it wouldn't launch anymore. I troubleshooted some, threw away preferences and all those other files people speak of and nothing..
I thought I would fix the situation by finally uninstalling the entire studio and REinstalling FCP 6.0.
When launching Final Cut Pro I can't seem to get past "Loading Audio Filters RP150". It unexpectedly quits every time.. I have thrown out all the files people have said to throw out. I have repaired my disk permissions, etc. Still the same thing.
What else can I do?

Yes. But it's not going to fix this issue. DW does one thing only -it checks and repairs the directory structure of hard drives.
Where does this audio plug in come from -do you have Logic or another audio software package installed? As Studio X already mentioned, +"If these filters are incompatible, FCP won't launch and won't give you much in the way of an error message."+
Final Cut Pro plugins are located at: hard drive name/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Pro System Support/Plugins. Look for the plugin there and move it out of the Plugins folder. Note that it might be in a sub-folder, typically named after the manufacturer.
If the plug in is an AudioUnit, you might be able to use [Audio Unit Manager|http://audio-unit-manager.en.softonic.com/mac] (free) to tell FCP not to load it.

FCP 7 Won't launch

ok, i've searched around for a WHILE before starting this thread. strange FCP 7 behavior:
i'm running 10.7.4
FCP 7.0
the splash screen comes up, as it's loading my plugins, it gets to "loading master templates" and just stops. no error message.
i trashed the preferences, used the digital rebellion tool to do so
tried a different user on my laptop and it does the same thing
i can't find the plugin folder anymore to try deleting the plugins. could that be the problem?
i haven't uninstalled yet.
motion 4 won't launch either.
i have fcp x and motion 5 and they both work fine.
could some sort of templates be corrupted?
any suggestions on what else i can do to troubleshoot this?

ok. i solved it. i had changed the name in my apps folder to FCP 7. i tried to software update and nothing happened. i removed the 7 from the name, software update updated to 7.0.3 and now it works again... so who knows what happened? hope this helps someone in the future...

FCP 7 Won't Launch, used to

For some reason, FCP 7 won't launch any more. It did just a few days ago. Nothing has changed on my system. When I launch FCP, the startup screen comes up, showing what's loading. Then nothing. No FCP. Nothing showing in Activity Monitor. I can lauch DVDSP. Same result with FCP whether I launch the App or double clicking on an FCP project file. It starts to load, but never makes it.
I can't re-install FCS, since I'm not running Lion. I had brought FCP over from Snow Leopard.
I have FCP X installed. But FCP 7 ran fine a few days ago with X installed.
I have tried:
- Repair persmissions.
- Trashing all FCP preferences.
Any other suggestion?

FCP Studio won't launch

Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro and have used Final Cut Studio for the past 4 months. When I turned on my computer this morning, FCP will not launch when I double click it- i've tried launching it from my applications folder, turned my computer on and off- but nothing happens when I do this. I click on it and the icon just sits there and the program won't launch.
Yesterday I down loaded the newest upgrade- perhaps this has something to do with it.

Start with REPAIR PERMISSIONS... use DiskUtility from your Utilities folder.
If that doesn't work... trash your preferences with FCP Rescue.

FCP won't launch on new Mac Pro Tower

I just got a new Mac Pro Tower and installed Final Cut Studio, but Final Cut Pro won't launch. It just hangs on the opening splash screen and I can't even force quit out of it. Same thing happens if I try to open an FCP project. I have run all the updates, trashed prefs, etc.
Any ideas?

OK....so I think I found the problem even though it makes no sense to me. It seems that if I have my DVCam deck (which is connected via a 4-pin firewire to 9-pin firewire cable) powered on while I try to launch FCP, it causes FCP to hang on the splash screen. If I turn the deck off, and launch FCP, it launches perfectly.....and it continues to work after I power the deck on. Very bizarre behavior but I have tested it about 5 times now and it works fine when the deck is powered off and hangs when the deck is powered on. Anybody else have a simliar issie?

FCP won't launch after Archive and Install

After the fiasco of the 1.1 update for the Alu-iMac's I had to do an archive and install on my system to return it to 1.0.
Everything is now working fine but FCP6 won't launch. It bounces in the dock once and then nothing. LiveType and DVD Studio 4 will open but Color, Motion and FCP won't.
I have trashed preferences and repaired permissions with no luck.
Any ideas?

There are files that are not brought along with Archive and Install.
Some are invisible and not accessible without enabling "root" access and even then you have to know exactly which files have to be moved from the 'previous System' folder.
Archive and Install never works with Apple's Pro apps.
If Niel's suggestion doesn't work you'll have to erase your hard drive and reinstall everything making sure you first backup important data to another hard drive.
(don't forget to save your mail and addresses)

FCP won't launch! Help!

Using FCP 5.0.4 and it was working fine this morning but won't launch this evening. I just updated to the latest OS, FCP, QT etc and still no luck. The program starts it's launch sequence and just disappears part way through (right aroung the rt settings)
Everything has been rock-solid up until now...any ideas why this would happen?

Trash the FCP plist file in the user preferences folder for FCP.
Repair permissions before and after installing the latest pro apps update either from software updater or from Apple's download site.

FCP won't launch after install

Please help! I just got a shiny new 12-core MacPro and installed Final Cut Studio 2. I am unable to launch FCP at all now after the install. From everything I've read in the forums, it should be compatible with Snow Leopard.

FCP 5.03 won't launch/software conflicts with Avid?

Hi,
I just purchased FCP Studio and a new dual 2.3 G5. Installation ran fine. All other apps open (ie: soundtrack, dvd studio, motion, compressor, etc.).
When I try to open FCP 5.03, it starts to open - anotherwords the rectangular box with FCP and my name and the serial number comes up like it's going to launch, but then the box goes away and no application. The finder then becomes active.
I'm running on and OS 10.4.2 and QT 7.0.1 and would rather not go to 10.4.3 or a higher version of QT as I need this OS and QT for my Avid Xpress application. Plus I do not suspect that the OS or QT version is the problem, as we know FCP has launched on OS 10.4.2 and QT 7.0.1. All other software is up to date.
Possibly there are software conflicts with Avid? The only other software I have installed on this machine is that which was packaged with Avid Xpress Pro v.4.8.1 which is as follows:

Powermac G5 2.3 GHz Mac OS X (10.4.2) 4.5 GB RAM 2x500 GB HDs

I've run 4.5 and Avid Express on the same system. And 5.0.3 (haven't cranked up the Avid software since installing 5.0.3). My first suspect would be some kind of Audio plugin.
Use the Console program to inspect the logs. You might learn something that way. (/Applications/Utilities/Console).

My apps won't launch & menu bar missing all top left icons!!!

A strange concurrence of multiple problems:
I am a pretty advanced user and have an iBook G4/1.33 GHz running Tiger 10.4.8, but I am having trouble with my PowerMac G4/500 MHz running 10.3.9 right now. I keep my PowerMac in Panther since it is almost 7 years old and I only have Tiger on my iBook disc.
Suddenly a few things started to happen at once yesterday:
1) NONE of the top right menu bar icons (OS 9 status, modem status, iChat, monitors, AirPort, Volume, clock, etc. show up upon log-in or restart.
2) Virtually NONE of my apps will launch from the Dock or the Finder. They bounce a few times then give up, with no error message.
I peformed successful repairs booting from both the OS X Panther disc and TechTool Deluxe. Although recommended, I can't create a TEST User because System Prefs won't launch, can't repair permissions from the problematic drive because Disk Utility won't launch, and I can't clear out caches because Cocktail won't launch.
I made sure the Application Support Folder in my Home Library had read/write permissions for me and applied to all enclosing folders as suggested. I tried trashing the com.apple.ActivityMonitor.plist preference in my Home Library also as suggested. However, it wouldn't allow me to remove the Launch Services file in the Caches folder of the main Library Folder as I also read here in the discussions.
Aside from successfully running disc repairs from the startup disc and TechTool, I tried repairing permissions from the startup CD as well (since couldn't launch any apps like Disk Utility from regular startup drive). Every time I try to repair in this manner though, after a minute it tells me "Disk Utility lost connection with Disk Managment" and I must quit and relaunch Disk Utility. However, same thing happens when I do, for both my drives running copies of OS X 10.3.9.
Only thing I can think of is to do an Archive/Reinstall of one of the two OS X systems on two different drives. But does anyone else have a clue what is causing this or what I need to try??? I read similar stories on here but nothing will all these symptoms at once.

Check the following link for OS X troubleshooting steps. When doing so, following all steps in the order provided:

1 If resetting permissions doesn't help, you may have a corrupt preference file... Delete....
Delete ~/Library/Caches (folder)
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.systemuiserver.xxx.plist
where 'xxx' is a 12 digit (hexadecimal) numeric string
• Then log out and back in again. You may need to go to System Preferences to put back the menu items you need to display.
• Removing systemuiserver.plist will cause the right half of the menubar back
its original pristine default state.
2. Check Preferences Thoroughly;
- Navigate to ~/Library and drag the "Preferences" folder to the desktop.
- Restart and test your applications.
• If this does not work, move the "Preferece" folder back to ~/Library
• If this works, delete the old preferences folder. (You'll have to go through some of your System Preferences and apps to set the preferences back to how you like them).
3. Navigate to ~/Library and drag the "Fonts" folder to the desktop.
- Restart and test your applications.
- If they work start adding the fonts back few at a time.
( A likely suspect is Time RO, also if you do not use Classic you can trash the classic fonts.)
4. Check Permissions Inside Home Folder
- Navigate to ~/Library.
- Get Info (Command + i) on the "Applications Support" folder.
- Open the "Ownership & permissions" flippy triangle.
- Make sure you are the owner, with "read and write" access.
- Click on "apply to all"
- If this is correct, open the "Applications Support" folder and do the same procedure (Command+I) for the folders with the names of the applications you are having trouble with.
Note...The reason to check this is because repairing permissions with Disk Utility doesn't touch permissions inside your home folder.
• Create a new User.... go to System Preferences/ Accounts and click on "+" at bottom left of window..... and test the apps in this new account if they work the problem is isolated to your User
(~ means your home directory)

TS4412 Aperture 3.4.3 simply won't launch from a fresh install

So, I just purchased Aperture from the App Store, and it won't launch.
I tried the advice here:

To no avail. Since the app hasn't launched, there is no preference file to delete.
The only other variables, of course, would be my hardware and OS, but all of that is up to date.
I kind of need the app running... Any idea what's happening?

Do you have Final Cut installed? The crash dump has all the signs of the classic Final Cut /Aperture conflict.
If so the easiest way to fix the situation is to just install the operating system Mountain Lion again. Re-installing the OS will not damage your data files however is it always a good idea to have a full backup in cases lie this.
