Classical Piano Sample

Anyone have an idea on the best piano sample? I use Leopard & LE8. So far the best I've heard is Ivory Italian Grand.
Also, I'd like to be able to mark my questions/replies as "solved", but see no "solved" button.
Thanks,
Charlie

Thanks for the help. I left a another message saying that I listened to the Yamaha, Bosendorfer, and Steinway that come with Logic Pro Studio. I thought the Yamaha was the best of the three only because it's the brighter. The Bosen and Yamaha tend to sound dull (lacking overtones) from the "small" octave down. (The "small" octave is the octave below middle c).
The Yamaha being brighter tends to keep more of the overtones so those lower octaves tend to have more life in the sound.
The "Italian Ivory Grand" sample I heard on the net seems superior to all 3 that come with Apple software. The amazing thing being that the price of the piano and it's "hardware key" is a little less than Logic Pro Studio.
Thanks, I'll be waiting for other replies ... and I'm happy to get any input.

  • EXS24 White noise on Piano Samples

I am experiencing a light air-brake-release type sound when triggering or releasing samples on Sampletekk Black Grand Piano Close banks. I think some call it white noise or digital noise. It happens more at times than others, usually with bigger chords. Latency and maximum note settings don't seem to affect it. Suggestions?

There is one or more corruptes samples in your Sampletekk Black Grand Piano Close...

  • Exs 24 cannot load Bosendorfer Piano sample

Hi, I wonder if anyone has come across this - Just got Bosendorfer 290 from PMI - massive 1.7 gb sample file and exs files. Loaded exs files into Library/Logic/Sampler instruments - exs can read them but fails to load saying not enough RAM! I have 2.5Gb on the G5 and 1 GB on the Powerbook - Is there something I am missing - I have tried the exs 24 virtual memory tweaks but I think the problem is more serious than that! -

Nope, sorry. You gotta go with the Yamaha Grand

  • Classical Piano Lessons

I can't download a lesson of Beethoven, but I don't know why. Mac says to go to applestore, I can't find the answer to this problem. Does anybody know??!

Yes, the newer versions of the lessons include a few extra features that GB 09 did not have.
These include recordings of your performance so that you can listen to them again and also a "grade" or percentage of how well you did in your lesson.
This would be the only reason I could think of that the GB is telling you to upgrade.

  • Am I missing library instruments?

While following along in the getting started manual that came with Logic 8, I noticed that the screen shot of the instrument library shows there being 23 plus instrument categories. My library only has 14 instrument categories. Where are the others, or do I not have them? On the same note, but opposite, I have way more drum loops than what the manual shows (3268 vs 285). What's the deal.

I have solved my immediate problem although I am not sure the cause and if it similar to the problem Wes is seeing. Wes, where do you see the 23 instrument categories in the manual? Looked and could not find. I also have 14 categories in the main area:
    01 Acoustic Pianos
    02 Bass
    03 Drums & Percussion
    04 Keyboards
    05 Synthesizers
    06 Pop Strings
    07 Pop Horns
    08 Guitars
    09 Orchestral
    10 World
    11 Textures
    12 Logic Basics
    13 Surround
    14 G4 Optimized
Then there are 14 additional in the Garage Band section. Does anyone else have more factory categories?
I had reinstalled Logic a while back on a new startup disk. The installation was intact on the old disk so I compared root directory>Application Support>Logic> folders and found that I was missing the Classical Piano sample file and the Bosendorfer channel strips. I copied those files into the corresponding active folders and everything works now.
My theory is that when I reinstalled Logic on the new disk, I neglected to copy all the instruments since I already had all the loop content on yet another disc. I will go in with File Sync and see how they compare next.
    Hope this helps.

  • I want to make an ear training app, and use two note samples, is it legal to use logic's piano sounds for that purpose?

Or does anyone know where I can get piano samples to legally use for a virtual keyboard app?

Are you sure because the license agreement confuses me and seems to say I can't re-distribute their samples. And a virtual keyboard is basically reselling their samples. The two note ear training game could also be considered repackaging their samples.
"You may broadcast and/or distribute your own soundtracks that were created using the Sample Content, however, individual Apple loops, audio files, sound settings, samples and impulse responses may not be commercially or otherwise distributed on a standalone basis, nor may they be repackaged in whole or in part as audio samples, sound files, sound effects or music beds."

  • Classic Analog Arpeggiator sound sample on the Logic Pro Site

Does anyone know how to duplicate the Classic Analog Arpeggiator sample demonstrated on the Logic Pro X site?
http://www.apple.com/logic-pro/plugins-and-sounds/ > Plug-ins and Sounds > Keyboard Sounds > scroll down the page to Arpeggiator and MIDI Plug-ins. The Classic Analog sample is below the Arpeggiator.

What you use for a sound is up to you..... but there are many presets for both the ES2 and the Retro synth you could use with a but of tweaking...
Tip: Play around with the Cutoff and Resonance controls.... in the synth itself or via the Smart Controls if they are assigned...
    As for the sequencer pattern....
Set up the midi sequencer like this to get the same sort of pattern at 120 bpm.... starting off from the default, and make these changes as per the screenshot below.
Now play notes at the lower end of the keyboard and you should get something close depending on the synth sound you choose...

  • Sample Baseline and Update Schedules.

Hello all. I'm a huge fan of Oracle Primavera and currently involved in lecturing it as a weekend program. I've come to realize that to learn more, you must not only study more but also discuss the subject matter more and possibly teach to others all you've learnt. That exactly is what I do with Oracle Primavera P6 Professional. I'm currently taking a client of mine on Project Scheduling with Oracle Primavera. We're currently going through Baseline Schedule Reviews as well as Update Schedule Reviews. My present predicament is this; I lack a typical classic example/sample Baseline Schedule as well as an Update Schedule. Can some experienced professional in the group please provide me with this? It's purely for the purpose of learning. What I'll please require is this: A Baseline Schedule file with a suffix "_BL" and four separate Update Schedules, preferably over a four month period, with a suffix "_UPD", that'll show the progress of activities on a monthly bases over the aforementioned period. My email address [email protected] Alternatively, if anyone is aware of a website where I can have access to such info, please share. I'll greatly appreciate this from the Primavera Group. I may be new and young to Oracle Primavera Project Management, but I've got big dreams and there's no letting up. This is the future for me.

Same project with similar issues.  You recommend you keep all of this in a single thread.

  • How do import TruePiano and other samples in Garageband to use in my songs?

I'm attempting to use some piano samples from TruePianos.com, as well as other samples I've got, to improve the quality of the sounds I'm recording with.  Yet I have no idea how to get Garageband to recognize these sounds and allow me access to them.  How do I do this?  It must be a very common and basic function, something people do daily.  Thanks

I don‘t know if we're talking about the same thing - I assumed you wanted to build a sampler instrument from the raw samples of the individual keys. For that you would need special software, like Polyphontics.
If you have a complete sampler instrument - consisting of the audio samples plus the file that stitches them together - the question is whether it's compatible with GB. I'm not an expert on this. But look at GB's Instrument Library (under HD/Library/Application Support/Garageband): The single samples are in the folder Sampler/Sampler files and are .wav or .aif audio files. The instruments that make use of these files are under Sampler/Sampler Instruments and have the .exs format. The track settings for the instruments (which include the GB effects applied to them are in Track Settings/Software and have the .cst format.
If your instruments come in this format, it might be possible to just put them in the Instrument Library by hand. An installer that does this for you is probably better.

  • Questions from an enthusiastic classical-music-oriented newbie...

    1. I'm a decent classical piano player. My M Audio 88 Keyboard is kinda spongy feeling. I know a little about the latency issue. Is there any sort of adjustment I can make somewhere that will make the M Audio feel more like a piano?
    2. I recorded a piano project that sounds GREAT! Exported it to iTunes and switched to iMovie and added some images, etc. The exported movie has some strange "repeated-note-pops" right at the end. The GB project does not have these. ???
    3. I have a sustaining pedal, and it works... but in a fairly subtle way. Can I make an adjustment anywhere to make it sustain a little more?
    4. Is there a way to adjust the VELOCITY of a whole bunch of notes so that they are equal? Or, since that might be too mechanical, so that they are "more equal" than my original input?
    5. I wanted to share my movie (see 2.) with a whole bunch of friends, so I sent them a .mov file (a movie made with iMovie). The less-computer-savvy were flummoxed by this. I guess they don't have Quicktime installed, and didn't seem to understand how to play a .mov in a browser (you can just drag it into most browser windows, right?). Anyway, what is the safest, most fool-proof way (format) to share movies or sound files when dealing with inexperienced computer users?
    G5   Mac OS X (10.3.2)

    1. Latency is caused by many factors. I wouldn't know where to start to improve it.
    2. It's probably in iMovie (or do you hear it in iTunes as well?). I've had a similar problem and the solution was to move the handles of the fade-out.
    3. You can check sustain using the "Musical Typing" keyboard. If I'm not mistaken, holding the tab-key gives a sustain. If the effect is different from pressing the sustain pedal, your master keyboard might send the wrong MIDI command.
    4. I was trying that as well, but I'm afraid it's not possible.
    5. You could also try to convert your movie to divx (or xvid) or avi on your computer before sending it. There is a whole host of software for these tasks, but you might have to pay a little.

  • External electric piano instruments

I bought M-Audio's "Premium Electric Pianos" sampler instrument pack for use with Logic. However, I find Logic incredibly hard to use (and plus I don't even know how to install this there - see Logic Express 8 forum), and I'd like to be able to use these instruments in Garageband. Is this possible? How? Please help.

you should be able to just drag and drop the samples in to the loop browser... or drop them straight into the loop folder in your HDD

  • Logic Pro missing audio files and instrument patches

    Good morning
Last week I downloaded  Logic Pro version  9.1.8 from the App store.
I have downloaded all the additional copntent listed
I am running a brand new IMAC with OSX10.8.2
The instrument choices and patches show up.....
However  many of the audio files and instrument patches are missing.
Prerecorded songs can be loaded but...
When I open a logic song (recorded on my prior IMAC) and recorded within Logic Audio 9.0.0, I get consistent messages such as
    EXS24 Instrument "Classical piano.exs"  Audio file "BDorfer f O d#.aif not found.
This happens with most most of the patches.
    Many thanks for your help

The only things missing from the App Store version compared to the Boxed set are the loops and samples that came as part of Soundtrack Pro and those are no longer available..
However, the sample you mentioned is actually part of the GarageBand Library.... Did you install GB too?
If you did so... then... three things..
    First, try using FindAnyFile
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
(Download the version on that webpage and not the App Store version)
..and do a search for BDorfer.. (Just that and nothing else) and see if it finds your missing file.
If it doesn't find it.., install GB and try again... (You may need to rebuild Spotlight afterwards as described below)
If it does find it then..
Two.. rebuild GB's Loop index as this fixes all kinds of weird things in Logic... (and yes, i know its loops not samples but it's worth trying based on past experience fixing these kinds of issues)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2443?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    and... if that doesn't work..
    Three... Have you reindexed Spotlight?
    http://osxdaily.com/2012/01/17/rebuild-spotlight-index/
Logic uses Spotlight to find everything it needs.. so that is worth a try too if everything else fails..

  • Basic question from a beginner

I am looking for a solution to this problem: I wish to record some classical piano for an audition DVD. I have a video camera, but the dynamic range and fidelity of the microphone are not very good. I'd like to simply strip out the audio and replace it with input from a good microphone. (I have a good microphone and USB input for it.) The audio/video syncing has to be seamless. In the past I've recorded audio using GarageBand, and I've used iMovie from camera input (A&V) for separate projects. I hear the problem is that GarageBand samples at 44 kHz (and cannot be adjusted) while video is normally recorded a 48 kHz. What do I need in terms of software to do this job? Would you recommend FC Express, strip out the audio, and find some audio recording software that can sample at 48 kHz? Any recommendations? An economical solution would be nice. I appreciate the help in getting me started.
    Message was edited by: joelmg

Does your camera allow use of an external mic? That would be the simplest solution.
If you need to record the audio separately, you can use the QuickTime Player to convert the sample rate to match that of your Final Cut Sequence, though lots of folks have used 44.1kHz audio successfully in FCE. (I think you need QT Pro in order to have the sample rate conversion capability.)
As you begin recording, include a clap or some big sound to aid you in synching the two audio sources. Once you get everything recorded, I'd bring the video into your Timeline with the camera's audio, then import the external audio, synch up the audio sources, then unlink the camera audio from the video and delete that audio.

  • No Bosendorfer???

    Hi,
First the good news: I've been playing with Logic Express 8 (update from 7) for a couple of hours now, and I'm loving it!! Great new sounds, plugins, features, etc.. Well worth the upgrade!
But... I heard a beautiful piano on http://www.apple.com/logicexpress/#instruments (click on the EXS24). Alas.... after the upgrade, the Bosendorfer hasn'n shown up in my EXS24! I did a spotlight search on Bosendorfer, but no luck. There are lots of new exs samples, and even a couple of nice exs samples on the demo songs DVD, actually (very nice harp and choir!!), but no bosendorfer there, either....
Am I missing something here???? (yes, a bosendorfer )
    Regards,
    Jaap

    Hi,
    thanks for the explanation!
Sorry, no classical piano in Logic Express... I have to admit that the "grand piano" and "Yamaha grand piano" are quite good. But my Yamaha P80 digital piano and the Sampletank Free's "HQ piano" sound better. Too bad Sampletank free is not Intel compatible...
Anyway, I shouldn't complain, because I can always record the audio of my P80.
    Kind regards,
    Jaap
