Classpath setup on Solaris

Hi Expert,
I'm new to install iAS to Solaris. On NT, the classpath can be set/modify
thru "Kregedit" under key \SOFTWARE\iPlanet\Application
Server\6.0\Java\classpath. What's the equivalent entry for Solaris?
Thanks,

  • Document on 10g RAC setup on solaris using vmware

    Hi All,
    I am planning to setup "Oracle 10g RAC setup on Solaris using vmware", but I am strucked up at installation of Soaris 10 in VMWare.
    Can any body please help/provide me the document on Solaris 10 installation for RAC setup .
    The main problems I am having during the SOlaris 10 setup is
    1) Setting up the static public and private addresses required for RAC
    2) Partitioning the disk space.
    Thanks in advance,

  • Java classpath limitation in solaris 8?

    Hi,
    I'd like to find out if there is a limitation on the classpath length in solaris 8. We've noticed that upon keeping the length under 1000 characters, we ar able to run programs. Is there a workaround for this ? Thanx!

    Hi!
    In your classpath... aren't you using $JAR instead of $JAX ??
    In the line:
    CLSPATH="../:.:$JAR/jaxb-api.jar:$JAR/jaxb-impl.jar:$JAR/jaxb-libs.jar:$JWS/relaxngDatatype.jar:$JWS/namespace.jar"

  • Non-anonymous FTP setup on Solaris 8

    I'd like to set up FTP access on my Solaris 8 (Sparc) box. However, I don't want people to use real system accounts on the server to log in. Is it possible?
    For example, on Widnows platform, I can install WS_FTP Server from IPSwitch, which maintains its own list of FTP users (thus no users are set up at the OS level). Can the default FTP Server on Solaris 8 do such thing? What about WU FTPD?
    Any helps are very much appreciated!

    Thanks Jeffrey!
    Can you also shed some lights on this:
    The default FTP server setup on Solaris seems to allow a system user to go anywhere(if he has permissions to) once he ftps in. For example, once I ftp in as myself, I am in my home directory. I can cd to, say, /etc and do a get on the passwd file and read it on my local machine. Being able to read the passwd file does not do much harm, but just wondering if there is a way to restrict the valid system user to his home directory and its subdirectories once logged in.
    Thanks again!

  • [Q]IPinIP setup between Solaris 8 Systems

    I'd like to communicate between the two systems by applying IPinIP.
    For applying IPinIP, I have configured tunnel on two systems using ifconfig command as follows:
    In System A,
    #ifconfig ip.tun0 plumb
    #ifconfig ip.tun0 211.217.97.67 211.217.97.132 tsrc 211.217.97.67 tdst 211.217.97.75 up
    #ifconfig -a
    ip.tun0: flags=10028d1<UP,POINTOPOINT,RUNNING,NOARP,MULTICAST,UNNUMBERED,IPv4> mtu 1480 index 3
    inet tunnel src 211.217.97.67 tunnel dst 211.217.97.75
    inet 211.217.97.67 --> 211.217.97.132 netmask ffffff00
    In system B,
    #ifconfig ip.tun0 plumb
    #ifconfig ip.tun0 211.217.97.75 211.217.97.132 tsrc 211.217.97.75 tdst 211.217.97.67 up
    #ifconfig -a
    ip.tun0: flags=10028d1<UP,POINTOPOINT,RUNNING,NOARP,MULTICAST,UNNUMBERED,IPv4> m
    tu 1480 index 3
    inet tunnel src 211.217.97.75 tunnel dst 211.217.97.67
    inet 211.217.97.75 --> 211.217.97.132 netmask ffffff00
    Original packet that I have been testing is the ping(echo request) message.
    That is packet sent from the system 211.217.97.43 to 211.217.97.132.
    The result of that is described as follows:
    =======
    211.217.97.67 system received packet which 211.217.97.43 sent 211.217.97.132.
    After appling IPinIP , 211.217.97.67 system sent that 211.217.97.75.
    ========
    B system received packet applied IPinIP from 211.217.97.67 system.
    But, 211.217.97.75 system did not forward packet to 211.217.97.132.
    I could not confirmed that how 211.217.97.75 system does process that after receiving packet. What I did wrong?
    I would like to know how 211.217.97.75 system does process received packet applied IPinIP.
    I might expect that 211.217.97.75 system which configured tunnel forwards original packet to original destination address after IPinIP processing (decapsulation).
    If you got some solutions for this problem of our system, let us know that.
    And, ifconfig setting method for IPinIP setup between Solaris 8 Sytems?

    What I mean was the post below your first one. But you correctly interpreted it in your next post. So "Solaris 8 containers" only works for SPARC. I don't get why Sun would only have containers support for SPARC systems. That is in total contradiction to why I would think they would develop containers in the first place: backwards compatibility to support programs that aren't yet migrated to the current version of Solaris regardless of whether they are x86 or SPARC. They have a solution but it only works at %50? hmph.There is probably just very little demand for it. During the Solaris8/Solaris9 days, Sun was killing off the x86 line. There is very little installed base of Solaris 8 x86 compared to Solaris 8 SPARC. (It wouldn't help you out, it appears, since you have SPARC binaries).

  • How to setup Sun Solaris 5.7 to perform routing

    How to setup Sun Solaris 5.7 to perform routing and how to setup as a bridge.

    Hi,
    1.You will have to have two interfaces
    Interface1      should be from network1
    interface2      should be from network2
    2.will have to create hostname.interface files for each interface
    hostname.qfe0 hostname.qfe1
    3.type hostname and ipAddressof each interface in /etc/inet/hosts
    4.create /etc/defaultrouter file for static route
    use "route" commands to create routes for the other interfaces.

  • Basic lp printing setup on Solaris 10

    What changed with lp printing in Solaris 10 from previous versions? I used to use CUPS but can't anymore as Sun stopped uncluding it on the companion CD with later versions of Solaris 10 (U4+). Now I just want a simple print queue setup to a hp 4250 networked printer that will always print landscape,compressed print. We have Solaris 9 boxes with these queues setup without CUPS that work just fine but I guess the same lpadmin, lpfilter, etc. commands don't setup a print queue the same way on Solaris 10 as I can't print to the printer - only 2 sets of banner pages come out. I want to tie a shell script filter to the queue that prepends the esc codes to the print file to make it go landscape and compressed print but nothing prints out but banner pages. If I look at /var/lp/logs/requests most status codes are 0x0100.
    I've tried following Sun Doc ID: 212177 as follows:
    # vi myfilter.sh
    #!/bin/ksh
    #Print landscape
    echo "^[&l1O"
    cat -
    # vi /etc/lp/fd/myfilter.fd
    Input types: any
    Output types: myfilter
    Printer types: any
    Printers: any
    Filter type: fast
    Command: /opt/local/bin/myfilter.sh
    # lpfilter -f myfilter -F /etc/lp/fd/myfilter.fd
    # lpadmin -p myque -o protocol=bsd,dest=<printer hostname> -v /dev/null -m netstandard -T unkown -I myfilter
    # enable myque
    # accept myque
    # lp -dmyque <some_text_file>
    result are 2 banner pages and contents of the file to be printerd and /var/lp//logs/requests is 0x0100.
    someone please educate me if U can? (I'd take a Dinozo slap to the back of the head from Gibbs as necessaryl!)

    Hi,
    Problem resolved, a case of RTFM.
    In order to avoid a ppd error in the command below you need to ensure the ppd-cache is working and this involves rebuilding the it
    # ppdmgr -r
    You should now be able to sucessfully add the ppd option as shown below.
    It appears that the Make, Model and Driver options do not appear after a clean install of Solaris 10 10/08 in the Printer Manager. However, if you create a printer with a ppd interface and then delete it the options remain. example below.
    # lpadmin -p hp1 -v /dev/lp1 -I postscript -m standard_foomatic -n /usr/lib/lp/model/ppd/system/foomatic//HP/HP-DeskJet_950C-hpijs.ppd.gz

  • Classpath troubles in Solaris 8

    Hi, I'm trying to run my application build on JWSDP1.2 on Solaris 8. I've installed the JWSDP and J2SDK and they work fine. But now I'm stuck with the classpath.
    I use (something like :) the following start script:
    HME="/export/home/NAME"
    JAX="$HME/jwdsp1.2/jaxb/lib"
    JWS="$HME/jwsdp1.2/jwsdp-shared/lib"
    CLSPATH="../:.:$JAR/jaxb-api.jar:$JAR/jaxb-impl.jar:$JAR/jaxb-libs.jar:$JWS/relaxngDatatype.jar:$JWS/namespace.jar"
    java -classpath $CLSPATH -Jar Manager.Jar
    When I run this script in 'HME/Manager' I get the message:
    NoClassDefFoundError: javax/xml/bind/JAXBException
    that class resides in jaxb-api.jar!
    Who can tell me what I've done wrong? I've checked the paths a dozen of times and tried relative as well as absolute paths. I even tried the directory to which /export/home is 'mounted'.
    The application runs fine on Windows XP using the same classpath and jar(name)s...
    Thanks in advance

  • Network Printer Setup in Solaris 10

    What is the best way to set up HP JetDirect network printers in Solaris 10? I have just installed Solaris 10 on an Ultra Sparc 10. There are two HP Laserjet Printers (HP LJ 4100DTN and HP LJ 4000TN) with JetDirect cards on my network. I want to be able to print to either of these printers and to choose which paper tray to use for the job (and whether to print double sided on the duplex model). There are reams of conflicting instructions on the Sun website and on the HP website for this task, most referring to older Solaris versions. Do I use the lpadmin command, setting up a different printer_name for each option for each printer? If so, where are the printer definitions? Do I use use the HP JetDirect Printer Installer? If so, where is it or how do I get it and is there a version for Solaris 10? Or is there an "add printer wizard" in the Java desktop that works for HP JetDirect laserjet printers? If so, where is it and where are the instructions for using it? Or is there some other method? Thanks.

    I found the HP JetDirect Printer Installer for UNIX on the HP website. The version is E.10.34, dated 5 Aug 2002. The HP site says it is for Solaris 2.6, 7, 8, and 9. Should this installer be used with Solaris 10?
    Alice Soteriou, in a Dec. 2001 article ("Basic Principles of Printing in Solaris 2.6 and Above") on the Sun website says, "Sun's position on this is to always use the vendor-supplied application to create the print queues. This is because it will probably supply the exact interface file to make the most of your printer's features (that is, duplexors, multiple trays, different font sizes and styles, etc.)" However, elsewhere on the Sun site, there are warnings against using such applications for security reasons and comments that the HP JetDirect Print Installer is not supported. What is Sun's current advice on this?
    Alice's 2001 article has been reproduced as postings on supportforum.sun and sunsolve.sun.com with dates in January and February of 2005, but these repostings do not address using this application with Solaris 10.

  • Solaris 8 client setup with solaris 9 ldap

    I have managed to install iplanet directory server 5.1 that comes with solaris 9 using the utility idsconfig. As far as i can tell, all went well. Now i'm trying to initialize a solaris 8 client to authenticate to the iDS 5.1 on my solaris 9 box. What do i have to do on the solaris 8 client to "initialize it"? I've tried using ldapclient on the solaris 8 client as follows:
    # ldapclient -v -P default x.x.x.x
    but i keep getting the following errors:
    findDN rename(/var/ldap/ldap_client_file.orig, /var/ldap/ldap_client_file) failed!
    findDN rename(/var/ldap/ldap_client_cred.orig, /var/ldap/ldap_client_cred) failed!
    There are no files in /var/ldap. I thought that one uses ldapclient to create them. Am i wrong?
    Also, the output from idsconfig says that a 'NisDomainObject' was added to my domain but looking at the object classes in iDS5.1, there is no nisdomainobject.
    I also noticed that when i run the command domain on my solaris 8 box, there's no output. Do i need to set the domain on my solaris 8 client? I have the domain defined in /etc/resolv.conf.
