Classroom in a Book Encore DVD 2.0 Lesson 1

Can't see any images in the photo slideshow or storyboard slideshow for Lesson 1 project. I just see black squares (with red bar at top of each slide) and they play black also using the play button. I tried rendering the slide show and the motion menus. When I previewed ...the motion menus were working along with all the video buttons but nothing for the photos and storyboard under the special features button. Still see black images with red bars on top in photo slideshow panel. Photos folder is in the project assets panel with photos in it. Have I missed something?
Tried on two machines...same thing
Dual Xeon 3.06GHz w/1.00 GB of RAM XP Pro SP2 ATI Fire GL X1 Card
Dual Xeon 3.40GHz w/2.00 GB of RAM XP Pro SP2 NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500

Vincent was right - and he beat me to the solution.
In my case I opened up all the image files in the Classroom folder on my hard drive (in PhotoShop) and resaved them on top of the originals. Then I had to delete the slideshows and the image files in Encore - and reimport them (in my case I imported them as slideshows). Then they showed up fine.
However if you are a complete newbie to Encore you could be thrown by the fact the slideshows you've just created, while they may look okay as far as the images go, have no end actions, no transitions etc. So the idea of Lesson 1 - to introduce you to how Encore works, doesn't work.
My other problem when it first happened to me was that I didn't know if the problem lay with me (had I done something wrong?) or my PC. Not being familiar with Encore, which is surely how most people approach 'Classroom in a Book', means you are really confused by the fact the images don't show up.
I hope Adobe get this sorted out quickly - it's not good. Meanwhile, for anyone else with the problem, if you aren't familiar with Encore yet I'd suggest you either work through later lessons first and understand how to set up a slideshow and how to link menus and assets so it all becomes clear what to do with these duff PSD files - or do what I did and work through another video training package first so you understand Encore (which seems like a bit of a waste getting 'Classroom' in the first place, doesn't it?)
Still, I find with learning complex software using more than one source for my learning is required these days if I'm going to understand it.

  • Adobe Premiere Elements 9 Classroom in a Book - eBook DVD?

I bought this from Amazon just now. It seems to need the DVD that comes with the printed version. I assumed that if there was any content that goes along with it I could download it. Is the eBook unusable without also having the printed book? Or can I download the DVD files from Adobe?

    Hi Barb O,
Thanks for your input. After a few days, I asked Amazon to reverse the order, and they did. I didn't get any useful answers from Amazon or Adobe. So far as I can tell, the eBook was not meant to be used without the DVD that only comes with the printed book. So if I bought both the printed book and the eBook, I might have been happy with the eBook. But the eBook on its own is worthless. It was very frustrating trying to get support for the eBook.
    Cheers.

  • Premiere 5 classroom in a book compatibility with Premiere 5.5 demo?

    Newby here,
I have Premiere 5.5 demo and am working with a newly purchased Premiere 5.0 "classroom in a book" with DVD lessons. Version 5.0 demo does not appear to be available on the Adobe site for download. I find that when I try and open lesson 1 that it takes me to the folder where I have the lessons on my hard disk, I click on the file and get a message 'file format not supported'. I hit the cancel button in Windows and the file opens up in Premiere 5.5 anyway, but with no pics in the editing windows - as per whats in the manual. So is there a known incompatibility between these two versions or am I doing something else wrong? Thanks for your attention.

  • I am working with ADOBE  "Classroom in a Book," with a supplied DVD. I have downloaded all the lessons, and in Lesson 5 I am able to find only (05A) but not 05B, 05C, 05D, and 05E.  My disc seems not to have those...only 05A. I need your help?.

QUESTION: I am working with ADOBE 'Classroom in a Book" with the supplied DVD.  I have copied all t he Lessons to my hard drive, and have completed Lessons 1-4. However, in LESSON 5, my disc shows me ONLY one of t he 5 examples shown in the book.  I see ONLY "05a," BUT not the following which are in the book: 05B, 05C, 05D, and 05E.  I need help to work with lesson #5.

See who published the book and contact that web site. There should be a place to download files pertaining to the book.

  • .avi on Mac from Classroom in a Book DVD

I'm new to Premiere Pro and teaching myself. One book I'm using is the Adobe Classroom in a Book Premiere Pro CS5, which has a sticker on it stating that it has "Free CS5.5 bonus content."
I'm trying to import one of the lesson files that is an AVI file but PP gives me a File Import Failure for this one file (MPEGs imported with no problems) stating "Codec missing or unavailable."
I opened the file in MPEG Streamclip and exported it using "Apple Photo - JPEG" compression. It imports just fine now.
My question: Has this happened to anyone else? Is this a one-time fluke or can I expect that other files on the CIB DVD may also require conversion to work on Mac?
    Thanks.

Todd, thank you for the response. There were a few things going on, mainly about files that were not yet up at the Peachpit website specifically for the CS5.5 version of the book/files. In addition, there were some proofreading issues in the CS5.5 EPUB that is downloadable.
I received an email from someone at Peachpit who explained what was going on and pointed me to a link for downloading the updated files (4 or 5 GB of them). I've put them on my system, but haven't had a chance to use them yet.
So, with that background, I'll tell you about my system:
Mac Pro (MacPro3,1) with 2 2.8 Ghz Quad-Core Xeon processors, 10 GB RAM, and an ATI Radeon HD 5770 supporting two 1920 x 1080 LCDs. I'm running OS X 10.6.8 and QuickTime 7.6.6 as well as QuickTime 10.0. Final Cut Studio 7 has been my editor of choice, but with the release of FCP X I decided to purchase the Master Collection CS5.5 and learn PP and AE. (I work at a University and got a discounted price for the MC so I decided to upgrade my Design Collection CS4.)
My apologies for WTMI (way TMI). Give me some time to get through the newly downloaded stuff from Peachpit. If I'm still having issues I'll post again. Thanks again for your offer to help.

  • Trouble loading dvd in Classroom in a Book

While trying to download lessons from dvd to hard drive in Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 "Classroom in a Book" I received a message "DSC5680 cannot copy.  Access is denied..Make sure disc is not full or write protected or that the file is not currently in use".   When I went into the dvd folder, Lesson 4 I noticed that  DSC5680 is a NEF file not a jpeg file.   Would this be causing the problem and if so how do I overcome it?     All the other lessons have downloaded on to the hard drive.

I am still trying to figure out how you got to the Premiere Elements Forum since yours is a Photoshop Elements or Adobe Press matter. The nef file will open for editing in Camera Raw ONLY in Photoshop Elements (of course given the Camera Raw plug in support). The installation of a Camera Raw plug-in will allow you only to import a raw or dng image into Premiere Elements (the video editor). The Camera Raw dialog needs Photoshop Elements for it to open in Photoshop Elements.
I do not believe updating the Camera Raw plug-in is at issue here. If it were, I would ask if you have a purchased copy or tryout . Purchased and tryout are essentially the same, but as Barbara Brundage pointed out in a recent thread here, you cannot update camera raw plug in in the tryout. That is the way I am interpreting what was attributed to her in:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5455989
This really sounds like a DVD disc issue so I agree with John T. Smith's suggestion which should provide a quick and easy remedy. Does the book supply the contact information on matters such as this? But, I would have thought that the Photoshop Elements Forum would have been the 2nd best place to take care of this.
By the way, when you open Photoshop Elements 11 Full Editor, go to the Help Menu/About Plug-ins/ what version of Camera Raw do you see installed?
We will be watching for your progress.
    ATR
    Add On...
Have you gone online to see if you can download some sample nef images? Then you can see if they will open in your Photoshop Elements 11's Camera Raw Plug.
A Google search should bring up several opportunities for you to try this idea out. Let me know if you need help finding such a link. Do you have a camera that shoots raw images? If so, have you tried editing them in Photoshop Elements Camera Raw?

  • I've installed PS CS6 trial version and still cannot open "Classroom in a Book" DVD? I have  new mac

I've installed PS SC6 trial version but I cannot open "Classroom in a Book" DVD on my mac book pro. Any ideas what the problem can be?

Sounds like it could be a problem with the optical drive.  I would recommend keeping an eye on your Superdrive to see if you experience any additional failures.  If you can read the disc on another computer then copy the contents to a USB drive.
I ran into a similar issue with my Superdrive.  It eventually got to the point where it could no longer read any optical media.  At first though it was only particular discs which it failed with.

  • Adobe CS6 Premium Classroom in a book

    Hi,
Has anyone read the new Classroom in a book, um...book yet?
I wondered how much new information there would be vs the overlap between it and the CS5 version that I already have.
Thats it...a short and (hopefully) easy question for a monday morning!
    Pierre

    Hi All,
Ok, So I completed the CS6 Production Premium Classroom in a book, and found it quite helpfull. From a beginners point of view, it was a great introduction to the possible workflow using all the Production Premium suite applications together. It was not a book on any particular part of the suite - although it did give some input on each.
Basically, it takes a real life situation of a band promo, supplies a lot of footage and souns clips, then walks you step by step thorugh managing media, managing dynamic link, workinf between applications from importing the first clip, to burning a DVD with menu functions and all.
Really a good read for those out there that dont know how the apps work together, and maybe want to shave some time off their current workflow - by maybe not rendering intermediate renders, but instead using the dynamic link functions.
Ok, so thats my sales pitch - I am now onto After Effects CS6 Visual Effects and COmpositing Studio Techniques by Mark Christiansen.
Now THIS is an interresting book!
I must admit, I have been looking forward to a book that does not give step by step tutorials, but rather explains the workings behind the program - so that the reader can actually interpret it themselves, and start using the effects etc in ways not "guidlined" by someone else.
As Rick has mentioned, blindly following tutorials wont help you learn the program and what it can do.
Having said this, I must shamedly admit that by chapter 2 I am already becoming a little unstuck!
I will keep at it though, and re read most of the book at least once or twice more, but some of the advice given is a little meyond me. For instance, the book has a chapter on the graph editor. Very good, but it assumes you understand the graph interface quite well already. I have not personally used it yet, having not done too manu serious animations, but know that it will be an invaluable tool in the near future - so, Ill take the chapter apart and try, try, try again!
When I have completed the book, I will provide some more feedback for those that are interrested.
(It is Christmas however, and our offices WILL stay open, just not as productive - so forgive me if it takes a week or two to get through the book - there are several factrors working against me at the moment - 1) 89.6 degree temp outside - so hotter in the little office and even worse under the red-heads, 2) a quiet building that we share with other businesses - dark corridors now - makes me tired all the time! 3) The CEO brought in his copy of Starcraft 2 and talked me into buying one as well - never played it before, so I need to learn quickly as we will be having a few rounds next week)
So, as you can all see, I am *terribly* busy at the moment, but I will give the feedabck as soon as I can!
Merry Christmas to all - and heres looking to a wonderful New Year for all of us!

  • Issues loading lessons from classroom in a book

I am having problems loading some lessons from classroom in a book.  Some work fine with others I get an error message that says there is a file import failure  as the file format cannot be recognised.  I have reloaded the lessons from te disc but the problem is still there is there an issue with the disc?
I am new to editing and find this most frustrating.
    Many thanks for any help

    >.prproj
That is a project file, not a data (video or sound) file
When you copied from the DVD to your hard drive, did you copy with the complete folder structure, to a folder on your hard drive?
If you tell PPro to load a project file, and the various data files are not where the project expects, you may receive an error message
But, I have never worked with Classroom in a Book, so don't really know what the project files need to work

  • Photoshop Elements 11 Classroom in a book

I have purchased 3 copies of Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Classroom in a Book. None of the DVD or CD work. There is nothing wrong with my machine everything else works. Is there any site where I can download the files as if I did not have a drive?

Adobe is good at making software but not necessarily books. If your products are faulty I suggest you return them and get a refund.
There are plenty of free on-line tutorials on Adobe TV and YouTube.

  • Cd that came with PSE 10  "Classroom in a  book to down load?

I have a dvd burner on my computer. I set the path according to
instructions in the book. I am trying to copy lesson 1 from the disk. It will open lesson 1; but it does
    not copy.

I have PSE 10 up and running. I bought "classroom in a book" from Amazon.com. I
followed the instructions on page 2 setting up the path to PSE10CIB. I can access the
CD, open it, List the properties of the CD, Show the contents. It does not give me in
bold print "copy". I click on copy nothing happens. I have many image CD's and they
work and show pictures. I think Java by Oracle is my problem. I checked and Oracle
said I have the latest update. I am running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

  • Is there a Classroom-In-a Book for SB CS4?

    Aloha Friends,
I just purchased Creative Suite CS4 sometime ago and I've been having a great time learning each one of the programs. I've purchased the CS4 Classroom in a Book for many of them, but I can't find one for SB CS4.  I see there is a SB CS3 Classroom in a Book.  Would that edition suffice with even the content in the dvd that comes with the book?
    Thanks for any help.
    Lono

I too used to be a book person for software training. In the last year I have begun using video tutorials. So much easier to carry around with me! I started with lynda and later cancelled and moved over to www.designprovideo.com and macprovideo too.
I decided to buy the Soundbooth tutorial because with the high def download I keep it for life and it plays in this special player that has instant "mac esq Spotlight" search features. It's like an index for a book but better. You type in a word or part of a word and the player shows you any individual videos (from all tutorials) related to your search!
Another reason I bought it instead of streaming it is I have transfered it to my iPhone yesterday. So I was watching parts of the tutorial on the way back from a meeting with a client. No net access needed. Way cool! Sure, there is the screen size limitation - but It suprised me how much I could get from the tutorial by listening and following the action on the screen.
Still, I will miss books when they eventually are replaced by ebooks and videos.

  • How do i use illustrator cs6 classroom in a book

how do i use illustrator cs6 classroom in a book?

Do you have a copy of Illustrator installed?
Then just begin at page 1, read it and practice what you read. Step by step.
If you don't understand parts of it, dive into the manual as well or ask a question in this forum. But mind that not everybody has a copy of the Classroom in a book. So you need to ask your questions precisely and post screenshots of your artwork.

  • Classroom in a Book Examples Do Not Work.

I am working through the Dreamweaver CS4 Classroom in a Book, while working on a MacPro OS X 10.6.1 Snow Leopard.
Many examples do not function as advertised. This is one example:
On page 114, the user is asked to insert a Spry menu into the page. When this is done the properties panel should appear, in which the Text, Links, Titles and so on can be entered. On my system the properties panel does not appear as it should. Instead, the properties panel for HTML and CSS remains present. It is not possible to enter the attributes as intended in the lesson. I can enter them manually into the markup, but since this will not result in correctly generated script (it is generated Javascript) it is pointless to do this. The failure of the Dreamweaver GUI makes it impossible to proceed with the lesson.
I tried to repair this situation be deleting the files and copying them anew from the CD ROM. then started again. The error was repeated.
My file setup is slightly different from the default. I always make an extra directory for the HTML files, named html
        ~/username/Documents/DW CIB/html/
        ~/username/Documents/DW CIB/css/
        ~/username/Documents/DW CIB/images/
        ~/username/Documents/DW CIB/js/
        ~/username/Documents/DW CIB/SpryAssets/
          and so on.
But this is not the problem, as the system is seeing this. For example, the links inserted to the pages are automatically correct:
       <link href="../SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarVertical.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
Is there an issue here with Mac and Snow Leopard? Or are more people having these problems? Or am I missing something here?

    Benjamin Rossen wrote:
I have a reason for using a different directory structure. I like to see all the .html files in alphabetic order, and not interrupted by the directories containing images, scripts and other resources. These directories are particularly disturbing if they are open.
    You have two options:
Buy a Windows computer. Windows organizes files and folders that way by default.
On your Mac, expand the Files panel so you can see the Type column header. Click Type, and the files will be reorganized the way you prefer.
I put only the index.html in the site root, with a redirect on it to home.html in the lower directory, so that only one .html file is in the default root directory of the site. Now I know the Dreamweaver will not function correctly when I do this.
I think this is not good. I recommend that Adobe augment the system to operate correctly for any file structure built by the user.
Dreamweaver does operate correctly for  any file structure, but it can't detect a redirect.

  • Problem with Classroom in a book

I have been working through the lessons in Adobe Premier Elements 11 Classroom in a book and am having a problem with Lesson 6 "Creating a Picture-in-Picture overlay.  the lesson comes with Greenscreen.mov file to be used in the lesson but when I try to use it I get the error message in a pop up "This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed.  As this is the file downloaded from the CD that came with the book and can't understand why I am having a problem using it.

It appears that my first impression of your situation was correct, that is, another Classroom in a Book corrupt/damaged lesson file as confirmed by nealeh's detailed post numbered 5.
You may want to bookmark this thread and the link to the publisher since you may run into other corrupt/damaged files are you proceed through the book's lessons.
    Regarding what you wrote
As a further note I went on to lesson 7 creating transitions.  You start by openning Lesson07_Start_Win.prel.  It tells me to open the file Lesson07_Movie.mov in the project assets panel and to open and play it in the preview window.  When I do that the greenscreen.mov that I could not open in lesson 6 appears to be running in the preview mode but maybe that is because the whold clip is done together as a completed mov file??
That might be explained by nealeh's report that the greenscreen.mov exists in more than one place.
The following is the link to the Premiere Elements 12 Help PDF. You might want to cross check with it as you go through your book's lessons.

Give the keyframing another look. If problems with the concept and its working through, please let us know and we can provide some step by step information on that.
Glad for the opportunity to be of assistance. Please do not hesitate to ask if you need any help with your Premiere Elements workflows.
    Thanks.
