Clean Install gone bad.. Can't access HD now!

I recently was doing a clean install on my HD and while booted up on the Recovery Partition, I accessed the Disk Utility and formated and my system restarted and I got an error. I took the HD out of my Macbook and into an External HD Enclosure and plugged it into another Macbook and it now shows up on that Disk Utlity as Macintosh HD with no option of Partitioning the drive. I can't figure out what else to do. (FYI, its the very TOP drive, ignore the 500.11 GB and 320.07 Hard drives, The very top one listed as Macintosh HD is the one I screwed up!)

Did you have FileVault enabled on this disk? If so you must disable the user lock of FileVault:
OS X (Lion/Mountain Lion)- About FileVault 2
OS X Lion- Using FileVault 2 and Lion Recovery
Boot to the Recovery HD and open Disk Utility from the main menu:
Select the volume Macintosh HD.
In the Disk Utility toolbar, click Unlock.
Type the disk password when prompted, i.e. the login password of any unlock-enabled user on the affected Mac.
Click Unlock.

You are on Windows 2000, you do not have a "Firefox" button, and should consider yourself to be fortunate in that you still have menus and don't have to do anything to get the menus back instead of the "Firefox" button. (The same applies to Windows XP users).
Use the "File" menu to get to Import. You are not on Windows 7 or Vista, and don't have to put up with the nonsense added for Aero.
If you want the "Firefox" button you can get it with View -> toolbars -> (uncheck) Menu Bar. The menu bar and the "Firefox" button were supposed to be mutually exclusive (which is impossible in some cases without being incompatible).
Once you are using the "Firefox" button ...
Use the "Alt" key to view the menu bar (temporarily) containing File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, and Help. On Windows 7 and Vista, the menu bar was hidden by default in Firefox 4 and above. These menu items are more or less available under the "Firefox" button which has the most used of the built-in Firefox menu items available in a different format.
To get back to having menus again. "Firefox" button -> Options (second column) -> (check) Menu Bar
You can make '''Firefox 7.0.1''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered '''items 1-10''' in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 8.0, look like 3.6)]. What upgrade are you trying to install? Your profile shows iOS 5.1.1, which is the current max iOS.

  • Do you have to down load from the internet using apple's recover partition, every time you need to do a clean install? or can you make a copy of Mt Lion onto a USB stick and install off that?

Do you have to down load Mountain Lion from the internet every time you need to do a clean install? or can you make a copy of Mt Lion onto a USB stick and install off that?
    Thanks

Yes you can make a USB stick of Lion or Mt Lion. Use Lion Disk Maker after you download OS X from the internet.
For Lion you have to point the download to an external drive and watch when it completes and reboots the system to start the install disconnect the external. If you bought Mt Lion from the Mac App Store then you can download it from there and just cancel the install when it comes up on the desktop.
If you are downloading from the Recovery HD or from the Online Internet Recovery system, slightly different then the built in Recovery HD, then again you need to point it to an external drive and discoonect that drive when the system reboots to start the real install.
Then use Lion disk maker to create either a DVD disc or USB thumb of the install files.

  • Had iTunes successfully installed on my computer (Windows XP). I can't access it now.

Had iTunes successfully installed on my computer (Windows XP) for some time. I can't access it now.
I keep getting the message -
C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\CommonFiles\Apple\AppleApplicationSupport\icudt46.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or contains an error.
    ..& then,
    Error 7 (Windows error 193)
I have uninstalled & re-installed the program several times with Mozilla, tried with Internet Explorer but it freezes, turned off the pop-up blocker & tried to re-install again. The window at the end of the installation process tells me that it was successful!
    HELP!

C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\CommonFiles\Apple\AppleApplicationSupport\icudt46.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or contains an error.
Taken at face value, you're having trouble with an Apple Application Support program file there. (Apple Application Support is where single copies of program files used by multiple different Apple programs are kept.)
Let's try something relatively simple first. Restart the PC. Head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel, select "Apple Application Support", click "Change" and then click "Repair".
If no joy after that, try the more rigorous uninstall/reinstall procedure from the following post. (Although the procedure is for Vista and 7 and you've got XP, just read "Computer" as "My Computer", read "Uninstall a program control panel" as "Add or Remove programs control panel" and assume the system is 32-bit, and you'll be doing the right things.)

  • Desktop CC app won't install? I can only access apps through AAM. Please help.

I can only access my CC account through the AAM. I'm unable to get the desktop CC app running. I have a full CC membership that was setup last month. I setup 6 other iMacs all with the same specs in my office on separate CC accounts. All other machines have the app but mine doesn't seem to install. Please advise asap, all other forum posts on this subject have not helped resolve the issue.
    I'm currently running OSX 10.6.8

    Hi steve.mose,
To take advantage of all the great features in the new Creative Cloud desktop apps, customers should upgrade to a newer version of Mac OS X. Some of the new CC apps do not support v10.6 and will not install. Minimum system requirements for each Creative Cloud app can be found on the tech specs page on Adobe.com.
Note that if you are on Mac OS X v10.6, you will have to install products that are compatible with v10.6 via Adobe Application Manager.
The following Creative Cloud apps support Mac OS X v10.6.8 and later:
    Extension Manager
    Illustrator
    InCopy®
    InDesign
    Adobe Muse™
Products not listed here are not supported on Mac OS X v10.6.
Adobe has performed limited testing on other Creative Cloud desktop apps on Mac OS X v10.6, but these apps are expected to have issues with features and functionality.
    Regards,

  • HT201341 Ever since I tried to update or install Yosemite---I can not access my iPhoto! It is stuck saying that it is in use with another application or has become unreadable.

I can't access iPhoto after Yosemite install/upgrade on my Mac. Upgrade appears to be complete. There are no other applications that need to be updated. I've disconnected my external My Passport for fear of pictures being lost in there. I think Yosemite is the first operating system that I upgraded to?

    Upgrade appears to be complete.
Do you mean, the iiPhoto application has been upgraded to iPhoto 9.6, or the iPhoto Library has already been upgraded to iPhoto 9.6 format?
I've disconnected my external My Passport for fear of pictures being lost in there.
Where is your iPhoto Library? On your My Passport or in the default location in your Pictures folder?
If the iPhoto library is on your external drive, then check the filesystem. iPhoto needs the iPhoto Library to be on a drive formatted MacOS Extended (Journaled). If the filesystem should be wrong, move your iPhoto Library to a drive with the correct filesystem.

  • Satellite Pro L500-1D6: Win 64bit clean install - No WLan can be found

I've been looking on the forum but no solution so far has revealed itself.
I did a clean install of Win7 64 ultimate on my Toshiba Satellite L500-1D6 and the wireless card is being recognised in device manager but I can't find any wifi networks or start an ad-hoc.
Its saying it's a realtek PCIe FE family thing. It's driving me maaad.
I must have installed like 5 different drivers for it and everything, is there a definite fix?

    >The card was working, but after updating the driver from the Toshiba site, I couldn't connect to wireless anymore.
Im asking myself why someone needs to update any drivers if everything works fine ?:|
However, the WLan should be enabled using FN + F8!
You can also go to device manager -> WLan card -> properties -> advanced tab
Here you will meet different options. In my case there is an option which could enable/disable WLan too.
Set the BIOS to default in many cases this helps and is necessary

  • OS clean install interupted on 2011 Macbook Pro G4. Now computer not booting up

I have a Mac Book Pro G4 (Early 2011) I was in the middle of doing a Yosemite clean install and I I took the memory stick out before the OS finished because I couldn't cancel and I thought it was hung-up. Now it doesn't power up. I get the attached message!
After this message it just restarts, then message appears after 8 secs or so then restarts again...  I have the Software Install and Restore disk. It came with two. I tried that but it doesn't automatically open anything. I also tried to open in Safe mode but I don't think it get far enough along to do that... Help!!!!

I had downloaded Yosemite onto my Imac, then followed the instructions to create bootable OS on memory stick, Did that then tried to load that on my Macbook. I then made the mistake of taking it out mid install i think. Now it does what I mentioned above. The computer has tried to reboot with the memory stick in so that doesn't work... ;(

  • After installing Yosemite upgrade, can't access documents and files

I installed the Yosemite upgrade without making a proper backup first, not realizing what a major upgrade this is. During the install, I was prompted to create a new user account. Now that the upgrade is complete, when signed in as the new user, I can see my files and documents listed in a Device called “Guest’s MacBook Pro,” but when I try to access them, I’m told I don’t have permission to see the folders' contents.
I should add that I bought this machine used, and I have always used it under the name “Guest.”
Please help me access my stuff! Thanks in advance.

  • Clean Install of Snowleopard - Can't be installed on this computer

I recently bought a secondhand Macbook (5,1) (2009), as my own Macbook (6,1) (2009) is about to give up. As I wanted a clean Macbook I, I followed the instructions to sweep the contents and then to install Snowleopard afresh, however Mac OS X Installer says it cannot be installed on this computer. Btw - I also have a time-machine backup from my own Macbook that I wanted to use to transfer all my data to the 'new' macbook.
Now all content is swept, but I can't install Mac OS X again. I can start the Macbook with the installation DVD and it comes to the Mac OS Installer program. It then only shows the option to restore the disk from a back up disk/time machine (which I don't have for this particular laptop, only for my 'own' one). I can't get out of that menu. If I click the option to restore, it activates the Installer program and I can go into Disk Utility and all that, but that does not help me further. There's no option for me to actually install Mac OS X.
Is there anything I can do to get the Macbook back to work? I just need to get the basic factory settings installed, after which I can add my 'own' files.

The MacBook 5,1 came with Leopard, 10.5.x. It may be stopping you from installing Snow Leopard because the drive's partition scheme is Apple Partition Map rather than GUID.
You would also need a retail copy of Snow Leopard, not a gray machine specific disk that came with another Mac. So if you're trying to use the 10.6.1 disk that came with the slightly newer MacBook that's about to give up, it won't work on the one you just purchased.
Get the retail Snow Leopard disk from Apple.

  • Can't install i tunes can't access location %APPDATA%

The install gets to computing space requirments then fails and gives could not access %APPDATA%\.

That suggests either a problem with the drive that your useraccount files are stored on, or a permissions problem.
Try running a disk check over the drive your "Users" folder is stored on. Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.
[Check your hard disk for errors|http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Check-your-hard-disk-fo r-errors]
Does the disk check find/repair any problems? If so, does an iTunes install go through properly afterwards?
