Clean install laptop no longer goes online

This is my first post.
I have 2 laptops. One I did a clean install of the OS. Everything is fine, except it won't go online. Both laptops are Gateway, XP, and work fine. Bernice and Pearl. Pearl is the sick one. I have installed the ISP disc, the Linkys disc, and uninstalled both. The wireless in on, and the signal is strong and connected. If I click IE, I get the server error window. I tried changing all Pearl's settings to Bernice, but that didn't work. I have had this on 2 IT forums and no one has a clue. BUT, everyone says its my settings.
Help. Ann

After a clean install, to use the Internet, you must:
1) install a driver for your ethernet card.  Reboot computer.
2)  install a driver for your wireless card.  Reboot computer.
3)  Setup Internet Explorer:   Start IE, then select Tools > Internet Options > Connections tab > Setup.   This will start the "New Connection Wizard".  Select "Next" > "Connect to the Internet" > "Setup my connection manually" > "Connect using a broadband connection that is always on" > Click the "Finish" button.  Reboot computer.
4)  If you still have trouble connecting, in the computer, temporarily turn off your computer's software firewall, and see if that helps.

  • Clean install of Maverick on my iMac

    Hi,
I have an early 2009 24" iMac and ever since my initial purchase, I upgraded my OS to the latest version, and now I have Mavericks. But my machine is performing slower and slower (even before Mavericks). Even for simple tasks like browsing a page with Safari, it takes minutes ! I'm not sure if my machine is adware free, because many ads popup, or are build in the html page.
Anyway, I decided to start all over again with a clean install of Maverick, and only restore the necessary files and apps I need and not the stuff I downloaded during the past 5 years, and never used it again. I also want to add an extra 4GB RAM up to 8GB.
I already did some research and build a bootable Maverick on USB, so I'm prepared to do the clean install.
But before going on, I want to be absolutely sure, I can restore the things I need.
So what is the best method, to take a backup of :
    1) My iTunes files (music, apps, videos, books,...)
    2) My personal data (documents, ....)
    3) My software (most of them I don't have the installation files anymore)
    4) My iPhoto library
I also took a backup on my Time Machine, but I read somewhere that this is not ideal for restoring after a clean install, because Time Machine won't recognize the new machine anymore.
So before plugin in my bootable USB drive , please help me out on choosing the right way to backup (and restore) the things I want..

For your iTunes stuff, photos, and documents, you can just navigate to the media files or documents on Time machine and restore them to your new installation.
For the software, I'd get updated versions of good installers, either on disc, or from new downloads, and make sure they are compatible with Mavericks. Just dragging the app over won't work very well.
I wouldn't reinstall any "crapware", such as MacKeeper or CleanMyMac, or anything else that purports to "optimize",  "clean", "accelerate", "monitor", or "protect" your Mac. If you have this stuff on your Mac, that is probably what is making it slow in the first place.
Antivirus software, also problematic, and not that useful on Macs; I wouldn't install it.
For any peripherals, look for updated versions of drivers or other software from the manufacturer and install those. Old drivers and kernel extensions are not going to play well with Mavericks.
I just did a clean install. I found it useful to make a list of everything I wanted to move, and wrote down passwords, network settings, and email settings.

  • Acrobat X Pro no longer edits pdf's after doing clean install going from 10.9 to 10.10 on mac.

all other suite programs seem to work just fine. Just not Acrobat X. Was install from upgrade serials numbers. Acrobat X does not work well using Yosemite for me.....

I am not able to edit scanned documents that once could. They were scanned in as PDF files. The files that I once could edit in Acrobat x Pro are no longer editable. Past PDF's that I used change dates and resend no work. I did a clean install going from maverick 10.9 to yosemite 10.10 due to an issue with third party program. Since the clean install I have not been able to see or work on older adobe files that I once could. Everything that had a adobe icon attach to it has disappeared and been replaced with an apple pdf icon. It will not let me select areas as I once could to even copy and paste.
    Thanks-

  • Have to do a clean install of ea2700 after power goes out.

This is about to cause me to buy another router. This will be the 4th clean install that I have had to do. If my power, or my internet goes down, a regular proper reboot / or reset, will not get my ea2700 back online. It takes uninstalling & deletion of the stored Application Data files.

Okay, I have just reinstalled & it is working fine. Oddly, I did not get a request to update the firmware this time, like I have before. I did select the last time, that I did not want to be using the cloud & apps. Maybe this is why? Although, on previous installs, it has asked every time & I selected the same answer each time.
Here's some of the info from the Cisco Connect Router details:
    Model name: Linksys EA2700
    Model number: EA2700
    Firmware version: 1.0.14.129982
Operating system: Windows XP SP 3
    Software version: 1.4.12051.0
    Connection type (WAN): DHCP
    Suggestions?

    I'm using a late 2006 2.33GHz imac.
I clean installed 10.6 from disc then updated to 10.7 from download.
Now every time my computer goes into sleep it won't wake up.
The only way it will restart is to pull the mains lead out of the imac, put it back and try until it will start.
This only happened after reinstalling.  Only Apple OS was on the imac and so it must be an issue with the software I believe.....
Anyone know how to cure this problem please?
    Thanks
    paul

This isn't a fix, more a workaround I used when I had wake from sleep problems that lasted from some point in 10.6.x, through 10.7 and into 10.8 (got fixed for me in 10.8.2). It seems to be connected with Bluetooth failing to wake up properly:
System Preferences>Energy Saver and set 'computer sleep' to 'never'.

    Thanks in Advance.

  • I have made a bootable copy of ML and want to load it on another laptop running SL. What do I need to do in order to avoid losing any files. I do not want to do a clean install.

I have made a bootable copy (8GB thumb drive) of ML and want to load it on another Apple laptop running SL. What do I need to do in order to avoid losing any files. I do not want to do a clean install. I know ML is comptible.

I'm getting an error message when ML is almost completely installed and it stops the install. Is there any way to get back to the snow leopard operating system and scrap the ML install at this point. I had to shut the Mac book off and when I started again it tried to install ML a second time. It is still trying to install but at this point I don't want to screw anything up any further so just want to get back to SL.
    Any suggestions.

  • Clean Install on laptop

I'm trying to do a clean install via usb boot on a new HD on my VPCF12AFM. I set my bio 1st priority to external and enabled but it's not reading it. Am I doing something wrong? And I'm using a plug-in usb keyboard cause the keyboard on the laptop is broken. Throwing that in case it might help or if it's interfering with the boot.

The new machine has Mavericks which is fine. And I will leave it as is. I don’t want anything from my old machine other than 2 apps that I will need on the new one. I want to be able to install those apps that I bought from the App Store onto my new computer. I assume Apple doesn’t want me to have the apps installed on 2 machines at the same time so I wonder if just uninstalling them from my old machine will release them for re-install on the new one.

  • Can't long in to iWeb after clean install of Leopard and upgrade to Snow

I just recently did a clean install of Leopard and then upgraded to Snow Leopard. Everything is working ok except for iWeb. At first, I thought I had just forgotten my password but then I reset it. I logged on here with it and on iTunes. I can't edit my page at all. How do I get into iWeb now? The template I created through iWeb of course is not on my computer- it's just on my iWeb site. Can I call to get someone th help me or do I need to start all over. How do I do that because I have a subscription?
    Thanks

Daniel ~ Welcome to the discussions. If you didn't backup iWeb's key Domain file before the clean install, you'll probably need to start over. I say "probably" because even though you didn't deliberately back up the Domain file, perhaps you were running Time Machine — in which case, there's still hope:
Recovering items using Time Machine and Spotlight
Only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb.
You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
Paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

  • After clean install of Mountain Lion 10.8.5 no Gate Keeper and a ton a long list of differences in verify disk permissions after updating to Itunes 12.1

    HI everybody.
    I have a MacBopok Prop 15" from mid 2012, 2.6Ghz, Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM 1 TB SSD.
As my Mac was running as fast as possible it  was getting slower down during start and shutdown, from 2 secopnds to 15 secconds during start and shutdown . Apps were crashing sometimes a freeze, total crash which made me go directly to Recovery HD and not my log in page after all the tricks I know I took it to service center where they zeroed my SSD HD and reinstalled Mountain Lion 10.8.5. Strangly enough Gate keeper was not in my preferences and a old version of Itunes 10.4 if I recall. The Mac is still slow while I reinstall all apps from App store and one for one documents and folders from my latest TM back up.
Updated the Security update, and other updates had the same problem as many updating Iphoto 9.4.3 error 102, still have not been able.
But running verify disk permissions there is a massive list of Itunes differences while I have not  even added one song. At least 60 to 70 differences. I know a lot of these differences are nothing to worry about but a clean install without Gate keeper and an old Itunes which after update to 12.1 has so many disk differences, this can not as it should be also as I have not added anything from my Itunes library. Any feedback or advice would be very much appreciated.
    Greetings
    Matt

Do a backup. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Then re-install the OS.

  • Giving Away Old Laptop--How to do Clean Install

    Hi everyone!
I'm giving my old iBook G4 to my bf's mom, and want to do a clean install (still have all disks and such). Can I just use the 3 install disks and go for it, or is there something else I should do?

If you have erased the hard drive, that's the way to go. There's some useful info on this link. http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070507084548849

did a clean install but still find the imac slows as the hours pass. using photoshop cs5 and lightroom3,
working w/some large files, but previously-like months ago, there was not this slowing problem. even
the internet slows later in the day. and small moves in a program start to take forever. anyone experience this
issue? or have any thoughts on it? thank you

How much free space do you have on your drive?
From the sounds of your problem is sounds like you are approaching a full disk.
