Clean install & Mac App Store (Can't reinstall Apps)

Hello Everyone,
I just did a clean instal of OS X Lion and after signing into the Mac App Store, it is telling me that programs are already installed (which they are not). If I try to update or anything it tellls me these are associated with another account.
"To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it."
How do I get around this?
Regards,
CLM

Just to confirm, you can boot into the Recovery Drive by holding down Command R when restarting.
When you select to reinstall OS X, what happens?
Fix for missing MAS
It's possible #1 will do the trick, but you might need to do the additional steps in Keychain access.
1.  Delete the files /var/db/crls/crlcache.db and /var/db/crls/ocspcache.db. These can be found using Finder’s Go >; Go To Folder menu (Cmd + Shift + G). This resets the cache of accepted certificates in the system. It doesn’t remove them, it just forces the system to rebuild the caches upon restart.
2.  Open Keychain Access (/Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access). Select Certificates in the Category picker on the left side. In the search bar, type in the word Class. Look through that list, and find any certificates that have a blue + symbol over their icon. These are the ones you need to modify.
Select one that has a blue +, and hit Command + I. Click the disclosure triangle beside the “Trust” list to show the list of permissions. Now, what we need to do is to set this certificate to use the system defaults. However, for some reason, when you select it, it doesn’t save. So what you need to do is this. Under “Trust”, where it says “Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)”, change the dropdown menu to say “No Value Specified”. Then, close the window. It will ask for your administrator permissions. Then, open the info pane for that certificate again. Under “Trust” again, now set the dropdown that says “When using this certificate:” to say “Use System Defaults”. You can then close out of the info pane, and enter your password again. Do this for any of the certificates that have a blue + on their icon. There should only be one or two at most.
(Note: I had to toggle the settings before it would stick)
Restart your system.

New hard drive installed on my 2009 mac book. Can I reinstall pages, numbers, etc... from the App Store? I was running Lion.

    HI Corey ...
Yes. Make sure you use the same Apple ID.
How to re download apps from the Mac App Store:
Open the App Store. From the menu bar click Store > Sign In
Click Purchases from the top of the App Store window.
Select which apps you want to re download. Then right or control click where you see Installed  then click Install.
Make sure and use the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
If you can't re dowload the apps, launch iTunes. From the iTunes menu bar top of your screen click Store > Authorize This Computer. Sign out of the iTunes store and try re downloading your apps from the App Store again.

    No.
Modern Macs run OS X 10.9.x on Intel processors.
    CS2 only runs on

  • Clean install mac using other mac as proxy

My wifes Mac recently crashed and will not boot up past the grey screen.
I've read suggestions that running a "clean install" of the computer can fix this problem.
If I have a firewire cable, would I be able to back up data from her machine onto mine and than reinstall her operating system onto her Mac? If so, how would I go about doing that? We're unfortunately we're living in a pretty remote place at the moment and don't have access to install discs or apple stores at the moment.
    Many thanks!

Sorry I thought the first post said her machine was an iMac.
The installer can be downloaded on your Macbook Pro & can be used to install onto her Macbook Pro. You do need to have 10.8 listed in your App Store account to download it. Sign in & confirm that please, Apple keep removing older OS's from sale which can make things awkward. You can use a tool to copy the OS installer onto a USB stick to make a bootable disk to install from, but you should try to repair her Mac first…
Can it boot into recovery mode?
OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
Hold cmd+r at startup, see if recovery mode starts up. She may not have a recovery partition, but give it a few attempts.
If recovery mode runs use Disk Utility to repair the disk, it may start booting if the disk is repaired.
See how that goes then post back & we can take it from there.

  • Clean install of Apps in Leopard

I know I am probably missing something here, but here is what I think I want to do, just not sure how...
    My goal:
Just received new Mac Pro Dual 2.8 (early 2008).
It has Leopard installed on an included 320-Gig Hard Drive.
I have a WD 750-Gig Hard Drive that I want to install and make the boot drive (replacing the 320).
I want to install fresh copies of all my (many) applications on this new system.
    My questions:
    1. What is the best way to install Leopard to this new empty WD 750-Gig drive? Boot from install CD's after pulling the 320 out?
    2. How to I go about installing Commercial software into Leopard when all I have are either CDs before Leopard was released (like Adobe CS3 apps) or pre-Leopard downloads? (i.e. in the case of CS3 will the pre-Leopard installer install the CS3 software and then allow me to update all those apps on the new system via the Internet, or do I need new Leopard installers? I haven't seen any? I see lots of Leopard "updates" that I have run on my old computer still in Tiger OS, but how do I do a Clean Install of apps on the new machine where I have to start over from scratch?)

I am in a similar situation as the original poster.
I believe the answer is that yes, it makes sense to put the new drive in an empty bay, do a clean install of Leopard onto it, then try to boot to it once the install is up and running. Once the install is complete, it should start the Migration Assistant in which you may be able to bring your old apps and settings from the drive in bay #1 (or Time Machine).
If you have the time, it probably is worth it to do a fresh install of your third-party apps. I do not look forward to the hours it takes to install Final Cut Studio, but again -- it makes good sense and is required to be installed on the boot drive.
As for the question about compatibility. Other than programs that are PowerPC based (Universal Binary), you should be fine with the Migration assistant and then a simple "Software Update" after a successful reboot. This worked when the Mac Genius migrated my drive from my G5 Quad-Core to my Mac Pro. They did not go through and update my third-party apps, but it did not take long to track down the Intel-based downloads when necessary. For example, I run ArchiCAD and it is a different install for Intel-based Macs. The PowerPC edition was still migrated over and this is one reason I look forward to a fresh install on the new 1TB drive.
As soon as I finish a couple video projects, I will be performing the surgery.
If any of the gurus here have first-hand experience that puts my plan to shame, please speak up!

  • Will ILife 2011 be there when I clean install Mac os x Lion?

Before I clean install Mac os X lion. Will ilife be there when I'm finshed installing? and with all the intel graphic drivers, do i have to install the driver updates?

No. To do a clean install you have to wipe the HD or bootable volume. BTW, before installing Lion, you should make a bootable backup/clone of your current SL installation so you can go back if the installationi doesn't turn out. IMO, there's no need to do the so-called clean install.

    paul dave,
to reïnstall Mavericks on your 13-inch Mid 2012 MacBook Pro, you can try booting into Recovery mode by holding down ⌘R as your MacBook Pro starts up. Eventually it will show an OS X Utilities menu on the desktop; select Reïnstall OS X from that menu, and follow the instructions which it provides to reïnstall it onto its internal disk.

  • I can't install Mountain Lion because I can't install Mac App Store

I have Snow Leopard, and have purchased a download of Mountain Lion. The instructions say I can't get the download without going to the Mac App Store. I tried, and that seemed to require a download of Yosemite. I downloaded Yosemite, which took an hour, and now can't install it because I get a message saying this computer uses Time Machine for backups. In fact, I don't use Time Machine, so I tried taking it out of applications. However, I still get the same message. I am totally stuck, going around in circles. Is there a way to get the Mac App Store without going through Yosemite? Is there a way to download my purchased update to Mountain Lion without encountering all these extra problems?  Thank you for any help.

See OS X- Cannot install on a volume used by Time Machine for backups. You should not have delete the Time Machine application.
If you have 10.6.8 installed then you can open the App Store on your computer. On the right under Quick Links is a link, "Redeem." Click on that. Enter the redemption code you were sent for Mountain Lion. After it is accepted the download will start. If you now click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar, you will find Mountain Lion entered and a progress bar for your download. You should see something similar on the Launchpad item in the Dock, if you have one.
After the Mountain Lion download has successfully completed it will automatically launch. My advice: before you click on the Install button locate the Mountain Lion installer in your Applications folder and put a copy of it in your Downloads folder for safe keeping. Once you have completed the Mountain Lion installation the installer will be deleted automatically. By having your own copy you can make a USB flash drive installer:
Make Your Own Mavericks, Mountain/Lion Installer
After downloading the installer you must first save the Install Mac OS X application. After the installer downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
       2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the leftside list. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list.
Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
Use DiskMaker X to put your installer clone onto the USB flash drive. Wait for the process to complete which will take quite some time.

  • Problems with mail and Mac App Store, can't reinstall mavericks.

I have a 2012 Macbook Air. A while ago, I started getting this message when I tried to open mail.
Also, when I try to open the mac app store, it looks like this regardless of the tab I choose.
First, I tried backing everything up through time machine and restoring my mac, but that did nothing. Next, I tried repairing the disk through recovery mode, but it said everything was ok. Lastly, I tried reinstalling Mavericks through recovery mode, but I got a message saying "OS X Mavericks failed to download. Use purchases page to try again." Of course, I can't use the purchases page because it won't load . The nearest Apple store is 2 hours away, so I'd really like to avoid visiting one, if possible. I would be grateful beyond words for any help. Thanks in advance.

  • Why can't I install Mac app store

Hi I want to install the Mac App Store to have the chance to Install OS X Lion. But eveytime I'm trying to go to the App Store it brings me back to the overall of Mountain Lion OS. Can you help me guys? Thank you!

I think that you have to be running OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard (or some version of Snow Leopard at minimum) in order to have the Mac App Store. Your tagline says that you are running 10.5.8 Leopard.

  • How do I clean install?  I have tried the reinstall osx but still the other apps I have downloaded are still there.  And also the Safari is not working anymore... I have to install Opera to have a working browser since I reinstalled the OS... please help.

Hi Please help me to understand how the clean install works...
I have purchased this ultrabook hoping I can slowly learn how to work it... I am a windows user and would like to shift to linux based machines...
My first problem is that I need to run IE explorer and media player to play wmv files on a cbt nugget iso image... It's impossible to do it since Mac does not support WMV file format... so I need to install WINE to emulate windows OS inside OS X and run windows programs... I can't install it either by following this site...
    http://www.davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/
I can't seem to run wine after the last step, it has given me error messages.
Now I tried to uninstall it, not working either,
My last resort is to restore to factory default settings > power restart, press alt key as soon as you hear mac sound... choose HD on the right side, enter WIFI key and wait for 4 hours reinstalling os x Lion
I found out all the apps are still there.... is there something I missed????

What you're doing is reinstalling OS X over top of your present installation. If you want to reinstall "fresh", do this:
Reboot while holding down Command + Option + R, first use Disk Utility to erase your volume, then reinstall OS X.
Best done if you FIRST connect to the Internet using Ethernet...much faster than WiFi.

Could you please advise me how to fix this problem.

Most likely the original source is the App store (choice 2 in my answer) for this system. Look under the purchased tab in the app store while you are logged in under the Apple ID you regisitered the computer with

  • Install Mac App Store apps on more than one computer

Can install apps, downloaded from the Mac App Store, on two different computers? I have downloaded and installed a number of apps on my iMac, now I want to sync my iPod with my MacBook, instead of the iMac, and would like to know if I can install these apps on my MacBook, so that they can then be synced with my iPod again. Please let me know. An help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You did not download any apps from the Mac App Store for your iPod. The Mac App Store only sells apps for the Apple Macintosh computer as the Mac in the store's name implies.
    You should be posting this type of question about iOS apps in the iTunes Store forum, as you bought these apps from the iTunes Store's App Store;
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/itunes/itunes_store
Yes, the iOS apps on your iMac can be transfered to your MacBook. One quick way is to use your LAN. Drag and drop the apps from the iMac which are located in ~/Music/ITunes/iTunes Media/Mobile Apps onto the iTunes app on your MacBook.

  • Licensing Error 6 After Clean Installing Mac OS 10.8.

I think it might have something to do with the fact that I forgot to back up the Photoshop Elements Library and Application Support files...I can't find any of the stuff they reference in the Licensing Error 6 Troubleshooting guide.
Is there way I can reinstall the application without having to buy it again? Do I need to give Adobe some information or something?
Thanks in advance for the help.

Okay, that never works. PSE isn't a tidy package like most mac apps. The installer strews stuff all over your hard drive like buckshot, most of it in places outside where apple says programs should install things. You will need to download and run this:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
Then manually delete all the bits you can find. Don't just check applications, but also hard drive>library>application support, and your username>library>preferences. (Let me know if you don't know how to find these.)
You will need to do a complete install. If you are talking about PSE 10 (which version is this, by the way?), you can download the trial and enter your serial number into that.
