Clean Install of Win7 64 bit

I have several questions concerning what are the proper drivers to use to attempt a clean install of Win 7 64 bit using Boot Camp. I see that there are (2) documents explaining installation with Boot Camp, they are:
plugin-BootCampInstall-Setup.pdf and
plugin-BootCamp_Install-Setup10.6.pdf
Is it correct to assume that the 10.6 version is the latest version of the document to use in my case?
In the documentation in the 10.6 pdf, they suggest downloading the latest Boot Camp drivers which appear to be here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL979
I am assuming that this .exe file should be used in lieu of using the Boot Camp drivers that came with my machine since those drivers are probably older??
Also, I am confused if I need to use this utility:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL977
By reading the explanation of this utility, this is only for people that already have Vista on their machines & are upgrading to Win 7 which I am not doing.
Lastly, I see there is this update on the MacBook Pro site:
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1026
"About MacBook Pro Software Update 1.3
This update is recommended for all 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro mid 2010 models and contains improvements for graphics stability for high-performance video and gaming applications as well as various bug fixes."
I have been making sure that I do an Apple software update frequently, but I am not sure if this is an update that I do not have.
Thanks for any help with these questions. I wanted to be as prepared as possible to get Windows installed properly the first time around!!
M.

A clean install requires a partition formatted by Windows 7 DVD and enough space. Period.
Update etc and Apple drivers don't come into play until after multiple updates and restarts.
Backup.

I am trying to install Premiere Elements 11 on a Win7 64-bit machine. I did it last year on another machine just like it, but now I get an error message saying it won't work in 64-bit. The license is valid and paid up. Can I get a new link to a fresh install file?

if you follow all 7 steps you can dl a trial here:  http://prodesigntools.com/photoshop-elements-11-direct-download-links-pse-premiere-pre.htm l
    and activate with your serial.
if you have a problem dl'g, you didn't follow all 7 steps.  the most common error involves failing to meticulously follow steps 1,2 and/or 3 (which adds a cookie to your system enabling you to download the correct version from adobe.com).

  • Windows 7 clean install/upgrade to 32 bit from 64bit

I've just bought a touchsmart 300-1025 with windows 7 Home Premium 64bit preinstalled.
I need to change this to 32 bit to ensure that my communication links with VPN work normally  -Cisco smart tunnel and/or VPN - my employers say that these will only work on 32 bit. I have an ultimate version of windows 7 to do a clean install of 32 bit but am worried about getting all the drivers/software back on.
Will the software on D drive be Ok for 32 bit installation, and will I be able to access all the 32 bit drivers that I need - I have already downloaded the available drivers from the HP support site for 32 bit windows 7.
Any help would be much appreciated

it might be worth asking HP support if there is a 32bit OS version recovery disk for your Touchsmart PC, if there is then you could order that disk and recover the 32bit version of the OS instead...

  • Unable to perform clean install of win7 or winxp(!) in windpad 100w

    Hi all!
Recently a friend of mine lent me his windpad 100w which had windows 8 installed in it [it originally had win7 which was removed and win 8 clean installed]. As I am not a big fan of win 8 [especially when installed in older devices] I decided to remove it and install win 7. I first wanted to delete the partition so what I did was booted in dos mode using an sd card which was formated to load win98. Using fdisk I saw that this device had two partitions rather two discs in it. One had around 30 mb of reserved space and the other had 30 gb. I couldnt delete the one which had 30 mb but could delete the 30 gb partition. After this I connected a dvd drive using a sata to usb connector and tried installing win 7. As this device has no external keyboard and only one usb slot I have to juggle using a keyboard and the usb drive [remove the drive when a point comes to use the keyboard]. Anyway I managed to get to the point where it asks where I want to install windows activated and it shows a window of the ssd drive [29.8 gb] space and below there is a message windows cannot be installed to this disc! I tried creating new partitions, formatting but not matter what the same message! Frustuated I decided to see if windows xp can be installed. In its case I had more luck it let me format the drive in ntfs format and all winxp files were loaded and it restarts to the point where it says windows xp is installing. Over here it stops at a point with a popup windows telling something like asms cannot be loaded and asks me to browse to point where its located. The thing is the usb keyboard doesnt work and neither does the ok button on the tablet! Among other methods I have tried are using universal usb installer, unetboot but no matter what I use it gets stuck at some point or the other. Can anyone please recommend some other method to install win 7 or even winxp?

Try hooking it up to another Apple using network sharing. The apple web site has instructions also for turning a computer, hard drive and all, into a slave to another. You should be able to not only wipe everything out but install a new os as well.

  • PnPDriverImportError - CS5.5 clean install on Win7/64

    Hello:
Pretty new here, so if this belongs somewhere else (Acrobat forum?), please feel free to move.
And, I am a self-taught, low-end, home user of mostly Acrobat and PS, so please keep any assistance relatively simple.
Problem:  "Adobe PDF Printer" in CS4 disappeared and issue not resolved after clean uninstall/cleanup/clean install of CS 5.5.  Adobe TS (up to Tier2) no help thus far, although they are still working on it.
    History:
Had been running CS4 (fully patched) without issues for >1 year on my Win7(x64) desktop (everything was/is fine on my Win7(x86) laptop).
I noticed 1 day in 3/2011 that "PDF Printer" had mysteriously disappeared from installed printers, and I could not "print to PDF" from web browser or other apps.
NUMEROUS TS calls/remote assists with Adobe TS --> no resolution.  They tried all manner of multiple manual PDF printer reinstalls from Windows CP, copying dll files from other computer, running the MS printer install fixit tool, and even deleting OEM driver files from elevated command prompt (!), etc. Nothing worked.
Computer, physical printer, and the rest of entire CS4 (including Acrobat 9.4.x) worked fine, but I had no "PDF Printer". (The add-in for MS Office worked fine and I could "save as > adobe pdf".)
They said a clean reinstall of CS4 would resolve it, but since CS 5.5 was imminent, I opted to wait, getting by without PDF Printer.
Today, with Adobe TS assist, I performed a clean uninstall of CS4 > reboot > run Adobe CS cleanup tool > reboot > clean install of CS 5.5 from DVD > reboot > update > reboot.  NO errors, no problems.
BUT, of course, "PDF Printer" is still missing. The Office Add-In seems to be working, as before, as I can "save as > Adobe pdf".
EVERYTHING ELSE in CS 5.5 seems to be working fine, as does the computer and my physical printer.
NEW round of Adobe TS later today: same troubleshooting as last time > no joy.
So, although I now have CS 5.5 instead of CS 4, I have the SAME "PDF Printer" problem.
FINALLY: got someone on phone who found a relevant event in the Windows log - he took the entire txt file to research and escalated to next Tier.
I am awaiting an outbound call back from "Resolution Experts" sometime MONDAY (4 days from now)!!!
Deidentified (user name removed) info from that event is below -- please let me know if you need a more complete excerpt or the entire txt file.  I also have the 3 service ticket numbers from the March incident, today's install incident and today's Tech Support incident.

    Hi, Mylenium:
    Thanks for your reply.
Any security stuff running on the system?
KIS2012 (had been running KIS2011 for 6 months back in Mar when the problem first appeared using CS4).
KIS protection was completely paused during the CS5.5 install today & I immediately verified that all Adobe programs were "trusted".
There were no errors or other problems during the completely clean install today (which was done after running the CS cleanup tool).
No indication anywhere that KIS firewall or application control was/is blocking anything (FW is set to notify, rather than to take automatic action anyway..)
Also, had been running CS4 with KIS for many months without this issue (IOW Adobe PDF Printer had been working fine).
Is the Acrobat speed launcher active (AcroTray.exe)?
    How would I know?
Do you have enough temporary disk space in both your user temp folder and the windows spool folder?
1.5 TB HDD (nearly empty), 8 GB RAM - very robust hardware.
Temp folder (I assume you mean Windows temp folder) is ~empty - I run Windows disk cleanup regularly.
But i don't know how to specifically check "windows spool folder".
Are the permissions okay on these folders?
    How would I check this?
I am the only user, & my account has full privileges.
Never got any UAC prompts at all during CS 5.5 install (except perhaps at the very beginning, when the bootstrapper launched off the DVD).
Before manually installing the printer, did you clean out the Windows installer cache folder so it is not reverting to a wrong installer package possibly?
None of the Adobe techs tried this (either back in Mar when the problem began) or today.
I wouldn't know how to do so.
    How would I do this?
Does your device manager list any disabled or defunct devices?
    No.
My physical printer is an older HP All-In-One, but the drivers are fully updated and it works fine.
It is the same physical printer I had used with CS4 for > 1 year without problems.
    There aren't many other devices.
    All drivers are up-to-date.
Sorry to be so stupid answering your questions, but I am just a home user.
What is SO perplexing about all of this is that everything worked just fine for a year or so -- CS4 with Adobe PDF Printer -- on this same system.
CS4 had been installed once when computer was new (Feb 2010), and then again in August 2010 when I did a factory image from the recovery partition (thanks to McAfee).
    Everything worked just fine.
Then, the PDF Printer literally disappeared without warning or other indication in March 2011.
After the many encounters with Tier1 and Tier2 TS from Mar-May, it was assumed (by them and me) that a clean install of CS 5.5 would resolve the issue.
I do have in my notes from back then that Adobe TS said this was a "known issue" (as that blog post in my earlier reply suggests) unique to Win7/64.
ATM, I am going in circles between Dell, MS and Adobe.
    I await your further advice.
    Thanks,

  • Windows 7 64 bit clean install

    Hello,
    I have a Z61t 9440CTO, T5500 CPU, 3GB RAM.
I would like to replace my HDD with 60GB SSD and make a fresh install from Win7 64 bit DVD. Is this doable? Does BIOS v3.03 support Win 7 64 bit?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Qosmio F60 Win 7 clean install plus drivers

    Hi
I would like to clean install win 7 64 bit on my F60. I've already worked out how to change my boot sequence, [ with the help of this forum], so I'm ready to format & reinstall. However my concerns relate to reinstalling drivers specific for the F60.... Any advice on this process would be appreciated. Is it a matter of just downloading from [http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/support/notebooks/qosmio/f60/pqf65a-00y002/download?os=25] & installing as I need. Can this be tricky?
    Any thoughts & guidance appreciated
    Regards Lantana
Also would like to update bios...is there a step by step process for that too?

I have a Qosmio F60 & have done a clean install. I'll run you through the steps.
    1. Make recovery disks before doing anything else. It's a good backup should there be any problems & will allow you to return the laptop to "out of the box " state if you want. Once the Recovery disks have been made (about 3 or 4 DVD'S), you can delete the recovery partition, but if you're unsure I would leave it as is.
    2. There is a folder containing all your drivers and programs on the C drive. Back it up to DVD or a USB drive.
    3. Back up your activation information. I used Token Restore (Google it). Back up your data.
    4. Install WIN7, use the advanced option, reformat your C drive. Make sure you install the same Win7 version that came with your laptop (ie Home Premium, Pro ect). Don't enter your activation details at this time, but use Token Restore to do this after installing your drivers. After you install Win7, you'll have basic functionality, ie your mouse touchpad will work, cd drive will work ect. Display will be at a lower resolution.
    5. Install drivers & utilities. I installed the following in this order.
    Intel chipset driver
    Intel turbo boost driver
    Intel management engine interface
    Intel rapid storage driver
    NVIDIA display driver
    Realtek audio driver
    NVIDIA HD audio driver
    Dolby Control Centre
    HDMI Control Manager
    Realtek LAN driver
    Realtech Wireless LAN driver
    Bluetooth Monitor
Toshiba Value added package (custom install... I didn't install Zooming Utility)
    Ricoh card reader
    Synaptics Touch Pad driver
    Winbond CIR driver
    Yuan DVB Tuner driver
    Toshiba Eco Utility (optional)
    Toshiba HDD Protection
Toshiba Disc Creator (optional if you have other CD/DVD burning software)
Toshiba DVD Player (optional, it upscales DVD's, but not much improvement over WMP for playing DVD'S)
    Toshiba Remote Control Manager
WinDVD BD (for playing blu-ray) & the update downloaded from Toshiba website.
    6. Install your own software, antivirus, data, restore your activation information then run Windows Update. Also worth running a good defrag program like MyDefrag or Puran Defrag (both free).
I would install the recently released BIOS update prior all this.
It is possible to trim the installation back even further, but I find this gives me full functionality while removing most of the bloat. I do find this better than simply uninstalling unwanted programs, as some like Norton AntiVirus are almost impossible to fully uninstall.
    Hope this helps.

  • [TP Newbie] TP "As Is" vs Clean Install

Another questions for TP experienced users. I read that TPs come preloaded with a lot of software, mostly to manage the basic functions of the system, like power and updates. I also read the hard drives come with a Lenovo partition that is supposed to contain the disk image and the software, in case we need it for recovery. So my question is: would you recommend I use the system as it is, or should I start a clean install of Win7 or Linux in order to improve the system performance? Thanks @All

the bootable media is the rescue media it will boot unbootable system to the recovery environment to create it you can click on the link in win start menu or open R&R & click the botton create rescue media. the recovery media is the product recovery media (windows, APPs & drivers) to create these use the link in start menu or double click the partition in my computer this media will restore your system to factory out of box state

  • Satellite Pro L500-1D6: Win 64bit clean install - No WLan can be found

I've been looking on the forum but no solution so far has revealed itself.
I did a clean install of Win7 64 ultimate on my Toshiba Satellite L500-1D6 and the wireless card is being recognised in device manager but I can't find any wifi networks or start an ad-hoc.
Its saying it's a realtek PCIe FE family thing. It's driving me maaad.
I must have installed like 5 different drivers for it and everything, is there a definite fix?

    >The card was working, but after updating the driver from the Toshiba site, I couldn't connect to wireless anymore.
Im asking myself why someone needs to update any drivers if everything works fine ?:|
However, the WLan should be enabled using FN + F8!
You can also go to device manager -> WLan card -> properties -> advanced tab
Here you will meet different options. In my case there is an option which could enable/disable WLan too.
Set the BIOS to default in many cases this helps and is necessary

  • MSI 890FXA-GD70, Win7 64 bit, random restarts

    Hello all,
I'm hopeful that I can get some help with a solution to my problem with this brand new PC. I love this new setup and the 890FXA. I get ~90FPS in World of Warcraft (what I primarily do on this computer) vs. 40fps on my old system. I have not overclocked anything. I have stress tested the CPU and RAM and have been unable to recreate the restarts. While I have experienced some restarts while not playing WoW, these mostly are reoccurring restarts immediately after or within minutes of a restart that I experience while playing WoW. The worste part is no dump file to diagnose the restarts. Seems like a power loss, but I have done everything short of replacing the PSU and have found no problems thus far (this PSU is from my old system ~1 yr old, and performed flawlessly on the old system).
I have also tried clean install of Win7, ran with only one stick of RAM in DIMM1 (also swapped out ram sticks to make sure one of them is not bad), checked voltages and everything appears to be normal and good to go.
Restarts occur randomly. There is no traceable event which causes it, other than playing WoW, and even when running video games it is unpredictable. Restart may occur within 2min of opening the game application, or it may be 4 hours before a restart (which is the generally followed by many subsequent restarts). System will usually boot all the way into Win7, and then restart again (when multiple restarts occur frequently).
The only error that I have been able to trace is as follows:
    Error
    LogName: System
    Source: EventLog
    EventID: 6008
    Level: Error
The previous system shutdown at *insert timestamp* on *insert date* was unexpected.
I have been able to run this windows EventID down in a few forums and it supposedly is a thermal error, aka overheating. However, therein lies my dilemma. I have run hardware monitors not stop for 2 weeks now and cannot identify overheating of any sort. All fans are functioning properly, and all temp. readings are well within acceptable limits. Please, any help with this problem would be amazing. I am utterly frustrated.

I'm in the U.S. Army stationed in Europe, Germany specifically, and don't know of anyone here who has a home build PC that I could borrow a PSU from. The one dude I knew has changed duty stations back to the United States. I will, however, consider purchasing a new one to test with if I can narrow it down to within a few possibilities and that is one of them.
I have run Kombustor, but I have not run the other tool you suggest. I will get that and try it now. Is there any info. that you need from these tests, or just to see if stressing the GPU with these programs causes the restarts?
    Thanks for the quick responses.
It could be anything at current moment:
    Weak/Failure PSU
    Overheating issue
    Memory troubles
    VGA malfunction
    or something else.
    Do test with OCCT Perestroïka:
    http://www.ocbase.com/perestroika_en/index.php?Download
    Use: GPU:OCCT
as mention above and leave it to test for 5 hours.
    Then post back results.

On Oracle Metalink site, there are many documents which says that Oracle 32 bit software works on 32 bits OS and 64 bits software works on 64 bits OS. Official support is only in those combination....
So there is no good way to help you in your case-XE is 32 bit application with hard codded compiled libraries which most of them would not work on 64 bit OS.

  • Can I switch from Win7 32-bit to 64-bit by clean installing from hidden recovery partition?

    Hi all,
    I'm posting from Australia.
Two weeks ago I purchased a new Toshiba laptop (http://tinyurl.com/ye6jkuq) with the following specifications:
    Model: Satellite L550
    Part number: PSLW8A-01101F
    BIOS:  V1.60
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo CPU  P7450  @ 2.13GHz
    RAM: 4GB
    HDD: 500GB
    OS: Windows 7 Professional 32-bit (pre-installed)
    My question is this:
If I use the HDD Recovery Utility (the hidden recovery partition) to do a clean re-install of Win7 Pro, will I be given the choice during the re-installation process of installing either the 32-bit or 64-bit version? Or will I not get the choice and simply be restricted to the 32-bit version that came pre-installed?
Any assistance or advice would be appreciated.
    Nick

    Satellite L550/011
I can't say for certain, Nick, but it would be a real surprise if Toshiba packaged the restore procedure so that you have a choice of versions.

  • Drivers/Utilities CD..XP and VISTA..can I use vista for WIN7 64 bit install?

Drivers/Utilities CD's, that came with the p-35 Motherboard..XP and VISTA..can I use Vista for WIN7 64 bit install, or download the chip set drivers for Awin7 BEFORE the OS install??
    MSI P-35 Platinum
    Q6600 Core 2 Quad
    Presently XP 32Bit
    NVidia geforce 8600GT
    8GB DDR2 SDRAM PC6400-800MHz
    Windows 7..waiting to be installed.
    Hello,
I WANT TO DO A CLEAN INSTALL.I have Windows 32 Home XP, I have the Win7 OEM I want to install.
When i bought my MSI mobo, it came with both the drivers and utilities for XP and Vista.   Can I use the chip set drivers and utilities for Vista, until i can go to MSI and download the latest chip set drivers?  When do i install these drivers....before the OS install, or after?
Can I format these drives first, go in the BIOS change to boot sequence from Raptor Boot Drive to the DVD/Rom to boot the WIN7 from, or should I format while installing Win7?
Someone on another forum suggested that 1) disconnect the two droves, then install the OS on the boot drive, and2) before win7 install, make the proposed boot drive (NOT THE DVD/CD ROM the first choice priority for the boot sequence....is this right?
Is it absolutely necessary to unplug the other two drives, while formatting and installing the WIN7 O.S.?  People tell me that there is a chance of the OS installing sometimes on the other drives.
Also, if I want to change the now present boot drive Local disk letter (C) to my storage drive (G) and the other two drive letters, can I do this in manage disks, anytime, or only during windows setup install?
    Thx

I've never had this much trouble hooking up a HDD.
I have two IDE DVD/CD ROMS.  (My RAID MODE was IDE in XP OS, and still is with WIN7.)
           I have three SATA HDD's.
After unplugging the SATA 2TB HDD while I installed the WIN7 OS on the 500 GB HDD (it was on the 74 RAPTOR, but I moved location, and made absolutly sure nothing went on my raptor)
So today I decided to re-hook up the 2TB Storage HDD, and when I did, I went into bios, and to the cell menu, and LOAD ALL DEFAULT SETTINGS, so it could see my newly installed HDD,which I had all my backup Data from the previous HDD. I also checked and the RAID MODE was IDE, and the boot sequence was the WDC 500GB Boot/OS drive, rebooted, then I got that annoying blanked out screen with that blinking cursor, so I got back into the bios, and changed the 1st boot to the IDE Pioneer DVD/CD ROM, 2nd boot to the 500GB HDD, and rebooted again..still got that blinking cursor.
I opened up the Mobo, checked and replugged all SATA, and power cables to the three HDDS, tried it again, then still got the blinking cursor.  Seems no matter what I change in the boot sequence,it never wants to boot properly
    ....AND THEN,
I started with TAB > POST> started WINDOWS, then once it opened up, I went to manage Disks, saw all three HDDs were online and healthy.  Win. Explorer also listed them in that folder, in device manager, it listed all three too.
     The managed window showed this:
    74GB    (system,active,Primary partition)                       Storage
    2TB     (Primary partition)                                           Excessive Storage
500GB  (Boot, page files,crash-Dump, Primary partition)   Operating system
Both the PCI IDE BusMaster and ON-Chip SATA Controller were both ENABLED.
Before I just got online, I tried RESTART, and it opened Windows the usual way,  so I hope I don't have any more problems. It worked fine BEFORE I just plugged in the 2TB HDD back in.
I pretty much did what everyone suggested, except for leaving in the 74GB Raptor when I installed WIN7, which prompted me to format the drive prior to installing the OS.  Also, when I changed the IDE, RAID,and AHC1, to the AHC1 Mode, just before I installed Window7, like a few suggested, I also had problems, so after the install, I went back and changed it back to IDE.  My Floppy was an IDE, but I removed it from my system, and disabled in BIOS, but even a few times I went into Bios and saw that thje floppy was 1st Boot, even though I changed to either the DVD/CD Rom, or the 500GB boot drive.
So what is the preferred boot sequence?
