Clean install on Mac ... what happens to iPhone syncing?

I want to do a clean install of Snow Leopard on my Mac, and obviously this means getting rid of the 'computer' which my iPhone syncs with.
I have Time Machine back ups so can restore my User account to the laptop after the new install is done. If I do this, will my iPhone see the computer as the same and sync as though I had never done a clean install? If not, how do I get around this?
I want to restore from Time Machine my non-iTunes purchased music, so I kind of need to restore my user account, but I don't want any app data on my iPhone to be overwritten ...
Or put it this way, what's the best way to ensure that you don't lose any app data when you do a clean install of Snow Leopard and want to continue syncing?

hi Dyne,
Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
The Lenovo G570 is preloaded with MS Office 2010. If you bought a copy of MS Office when you purchased the computer, you should receive a product key card that contains the 25 digit product key. If you purchased it at a store, the product key should be located on the packaging. If you purchased it online, the product key should be sent to your email along with a download link for the MS Office application.
Check this product key card FAQs and check this guide on how to activate your copy of MS Office.
Hope this helps

  • Fresh install of Lion, what happens to iPhone Apps?

    HI all,
I want to do a fresh install of Lion on my Mac. What is going to happen to all of my iPhone and iPod touch apps when I do this? Is there a way to back them up and then add them back to iTunes when I'm done?
I already have all of my photos, movies, music, Mac app .dmg's and documents backed up on a 1TB drive (not time machine, just manual). But what about my iPhone Apps?
I have spent a lot of money on these things and I do not want to have to buy them all again.

Try a safe boot by holding down shift key during boot

  • G570 Clean install Windows 7 - What happens to Office?

    Hi there,
After a long-winded diagnostic (okr fail, chkdsk fail, bootrec fail, no drive detected) and a hardware diagnostic from WD, I concluded that the hard drive is bust. Oh well, a new one is on the way.
    My question is ----
While I can use the code on the stickers to activate a new Window 7, what happens to Office? How can I activate the office in the new drive?
    Please advise, and thanks.
    Cheers,
    Dyne

  • Clean install of ML - what will happen?

I have made a bootable USB drive with Mountain Lion installer.
I am prepared to make a clean install of ML on my drive (since it has become slow and glitchy).
I have a clone of my Mac drive, and have made a dmg of my windows drive and put them both on a bootable external hard drive.
Now I am ready to proceed in formatting my mac drive but I have to questions (which no one after hours of googling seem to be able to answer):
    Two questions.
    1. What will happen to my Boot camp partition after a clean install of Mac OS X? Will I still be able to boot windows normally?
    2. What happens to programs that requires license to install, for example Office 2011, Photoshop CS5 etc? Will they allow me to restore it from TimeMachine backup or my clone or do I need new licenses?
From what I've read so far... The least problems is if I keep my username exactly as it is, manually copying files and folders from the clone drive to the new installation of ML. Downloading fresh programs from the internet. But still, the licensed ones will have files spread all over and can't easily be copied right? And also, will my computer be able to instantly recognize the boot camp partition and load it normally?

    Your question 1.
Do not manually copy any files... particularly applications. There is so much that has to be moved over, it is impossible to know where these files are. When you reinstall the OS you will be asked if you want to transfer stuff over. Take that route, and save yourself an impossible task.
The good news is that when you do it that way the license info should also be transferred. In any case you do not need NEW licenses. At worst you will have to do a one-time re-enter of the ones you have.
    Your question 2.
I believe, but let's hope some one more knowledgeable than I will confirm, the Bootcamp partition does not have to be erased during a clean install.

On your friend's computer with an internet connection, log into the Mac App Store with your ID and download Yosemite from the Purchases section of the Mac App Store. The make a bootable USB install media using
    http://liondiskmaker.com/
Then boot from that on your computer and install
You need an internet connection to install via Recovery mode

  • What happens to Iphone 2g,3g or 3gs ,....

What happens to Iphone 2g,3g or 3gs once we activate iphone 4. Can we give it some one to use it by changing the SIM.
    Thks.

When the iPhone 4 is activated with your line/number, your previous iPhone or any other cell phone being used with the line/number is deactivated at the same time.
The previous iPhone can be used as an iPod Touch, or sold/given to someone else. If the recipient wants to activate the iPhone with their line/number as an existing subscriber with the carrier for the iPhone, they can use their SIM card being used with another phone, or get a new SIM card from the carrier. A new subscriber with the carrier for the iPhone will need to sign up for service with the carrier along with getting a SIM card from the carrier to activate the iPhone.

  • 40gb free space appeared after clean install of Mac OS X and time machine restore? What happened?

Recently, my computer had a display problem, and I brought it in to the Apple store to get it fixed. When they returned it, they had replaced not only the display but also the logic board, and the hard drive, and they did a clean install of the operating system. After OS X was clean installed onto my computer, I restored my files from Time Machine, but my hard drive now shows about 40 gigs more free space than I had before, when I originally brought my computer in. All my files seem to be in place. What am I missing? I was guessing that the cache of my web browsers have been cleared... But 40 Gigs seems like a lot of space to recover solely through clearing the web cache. Any ideas?

Hi, one question & one suggestion...
What possible things are connected at home but not at the store, inlude every cable, etc.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...
    /private/var/run/StartupItems
    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons

  • I am due to upgrade my iPhone 3 to iPhone 5. I have icloud which co-ordinates my phone and mac what happens when I get a new phone - I dont want to lose all my contacts, notes, addresses etc. Do I have to disconnect icloud and how? What happens?

I am due to upgrade my iphone 3 to iphone 5.  I have icloud which is co-ordinating my iphone 3 and Mac Pro updating each other.  What happens when I get a new phone - I dont want to lose all my addresses, notes etc.  What is the procedure and step by step action?  The new phone arrives - then what?

When I upgraded from the iPhone 3GS to iPhone 5, I simply did a Backup of my phone using iTunes, plugged in the new iPhone 5 into my Mac, and did a Restore of that backup to put everything back. This procedure is documented around the web. Also, the new phone will ask you for your Apple ID and when you enter it, all your iCloud info will be downloaded to the phone. It worked pretty well for me.

  • Clean install of Mac OS, but lost my MS Word 2011 disk...now what?

    Hi,
I just did a clean install on my iMac, but I can't find my install disk for MSWord 2011.  It was installed and activated with Microsoft, so I know they have all my information (serial number, name, address, etc.).  Is there a way I can download/install/activate
    it online?
    Thank you!

  • CS5 Mac - What happened to Adjustments- Variations?

I cannot find Variations in either 64 or 32 bit PS CS5 for the Mac. My PC friends say it is where it belongs in both, in the Adjustments menu.
    What happened to it?
    TIA,
    Bill

I recently did a clean install of everything on a MBPro. I only use 8-bit images. I am in the 32-bit kernel. Variations is NOT in  the Adjustments submenu.
But, if I Get Info on Photoshop and check the Open in 32-bit mode, "Variations" appears and works. I have not tried this in the 64-bit kernel. But, why should it not work there too.

  • Swapping drive from old Mac to new Mac - What happens to boot camp/Windows?

    Hello,
The HDD that was in my Late 2008 Macbook will be going into a Late 2008 Macbook Pro with discrete GPU. The HDD already had Bootcamp installed, with Windows XP, and all of my programs.
I understand that OSX may not boot up right away with the new Mac, and I may have to run the install disks from the new Mac, and it should keep the applications/files/settings intact from the previous installation (thank you forums for telling me this)
What happens to bootcamp/Windows? I'd like for all of my applications and files to remain in tact. The partition and file system should be fine, but will I run into any issues since I'm moving to slightly different hardware? Will I have to reinstall the boot camp drivers? Reinstall of Windows?
I don't mind reinstalling Windows or Boot Camp drivers if necessary, but my priority is to keep all of the files and applications intact upon re installation.
    Thanks,
    Jonathan

Unfortunately my older MacBook is no longer accessible (long story) and I have no other Macs to test/clone this one on until this Tuesday when the Pro arrives.
I have the XP discs here. I guess in short, I'll just have to wait and see how XP behaves and try to fix as needed.
I was running 10.5.7 on the MacBook. I don't know what the Pro will ship with (its a Refurb from Apple Store) - http://store.apple.com/us/product/FB471LL/A?mco=MjE0NjE5MA
    Thanks for your help.

  • How do you perform clean install on mac?

I just purchased a MBP with Snow Leopard OS and I'm completely mac noob. I want to know how to perform clean install (erase and install) on a mac. Not that I want to do it now. Just want to learn the proper procedures earlier coz this is very beneficial in the future. thanks

    FYI
I know that you know that there are two kind of installs for Leo: upgrade and erase and install. In principle, there would be little difference between the two. Many here say that upgrading, versus erasing and installing, is the superior procedure. Others feel differently. I say just do what you prefer. My bet is that percentage-wise those getting good installs from an erase and install, particularly if all apps are reinstalled, rather than migrated, is higher than for upgrade--but probably not appreciably higher.
The processes leading to the final outcome should lead to a good outcome in either case. But, things can go wrong either way. I am not going to try to elaborate much on the specific ways that things could go wrong either way. But, for the most part, they would have to do with the way migration works and the migration technique used (if used), in the case of erase and install, and the existence of problems in the system existing prior to installation in the case of an upgrade.
