Clean Install on MacBook Pro

Hello,
I'm trying to perform clean install of Lion on my late 2007 MacBook Pro, currently running 10.7.5. It is incapable of being upgraded to anything past 10.7.5. The guide I'm refferring to states to get a clean copy of lion from the Mac App store, but as it is no longer availible in the store, how would I do this? Thanks!

Lion is here. But you don't require it. The following will reinstall Lion for you. The Mountain Lion link also works for Lion.
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Clean install for macbook pro

Hello, I purchased a MacBook Pro 8,1 with i5 recently and I had to buy used. It was running Snow Leopard (no disk came with it) but I had upgraded all way to Yosemite. I contacted Apple support and was sent white Mac OS X Snow Leopard Install DVD. At bottom it says replacement DVD not for resale. This is my first taste of Apple products and really haven't grasp how things are done compared to the many years on a Window machine. Anyway I was in disk utility and I erased some stuff I shouldn't have I think. When I put DVD in Superdrive and boot up I get a white screen only. If I depress the "C" while powering up, I get to the Apple logo then to screen with big power button icon that's says I need to restart. Hold down the power button until it turns off in 5 languages. If I depress "option" when powering up I have "choose network" then above that I can pick my installation DVD. When I choose network I'm advanced 1 screen to right to put in password. I'm then back to left to select install DVD. It then shows me Apple logo then the shutdown screen.. Someone please enlighten me on fixing this problem....

No, when holding down option key it takes me to "CHOOSE NETWORK" and with the install disk above it. I pick my wifi and type my password but when I select the dvd it shows the apple logo then back to the restart screen. The only thing I'm guilty of was getting delete/erase happy while in disk utilities prior to this mess. I do know the macbook HD was deleted but shouldn't the dvd be my safety net? I should always be able to boot and install from that right? I here's weird fact, what should be listed on that snow leopard dvd if I opened it up in my windows laptop?

  • Clean install/clone MacBook Pro

replacing my HD with SSD and was thinking (since I don't have much on there I'm concerned about) I would just do a clean install. That said (excuse my noobiness) can I simply boot it up once the install is done? Will it set up the mac os on the new drive on its own?

Yes, copy it to an external volume.  I call it drag and drop.
I also made a time machine backup, this does backup all the files i made right?
Yes, Time machine should have all information on it except any data that you may have selected not to be backed up.
    Ciao.

If the bank account permits, I suggest getting a 1 TB SSD anyway.  One cannot have too much storage.
Unless you are having issues with your current installation, a 'clean' install is not necessary.  It would be more efficient to clone your current drive to the new SSD, test it, and then do the swap.  The installation of Mavericks over Snow Leopard can be done either before or after the cloning process.
    Ciao.

  • I want to re-install my Pre-Installed Lion Macbook Pro, but I can't get the Lion OS from App Store with my Apple ID. Please help, thanks!

Hi, I want to do a clean re-installation of my end 2011 Macbook Pro which comes with pre-installed Lion OS. I go through the installation steps and after App Store verified my Apple ID, it prompted me that I did not purchase the Lion OS. I am very surprise to see this message which my pre-installed Lion Macbook Pro should have it. Please help and advise how can I get the OS? All other bundle softwares were in the purchase record except the Lion OS.

That was my mistake - sorry - it IS Command-R to boot to the Recovery disk, not Command-D: I either just hit the wrong key or am just now coming awake from my nap.
Let me see if I can just explain it in a few steps - I don't know of any link (but it would make a good User Tip):
Create an up-to-the minute back-up of your internal hard drive using an external hard drive and Time Machine.
Boot to your recovery partion - holding down Command-R on boot.
Use Disk Utility to erase Macintosh HD - use one GUID partition and format as "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". Unless you're selling the machine, there's no need to do a secure erase (which can take hours).
After you erase the disk, re-install Lion from the same Recovery partition.
After installation is complete, reboot, again holding down the Command-R keys to boot into the Recovery Partition.
Restore your Time Machine back-up. This could take several hours.
Reboot after restore and you're back in business.
That should take care of everything - all you need is an Internet connection.
Call back if I didn't explain things too well - at least I got the Command-R right this time!

  • Backing up and cleaning up my Macbook Pro

    Hi,
I've been using a Macbook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel i7 for just over a year now and my hard drive is full to the brim. I have recently noticed how much slower the whole system is and so have bought a 3TB Seagate desk top external hard drive and want to back up my whole system and clean up my Macbook Pro. This is the first time I've done this, so I would really appreciate some step by step advice.
I would like to know how best to copy all my files and documents to the drive so I can delete them in vast quantities from my Macbook, knowing that it is all safely backed up and accessible from the external drive. I've also been advised to install extra RAM, which would enhance the speed when running two programmes (Final Cut Pro and After Effects, most regularly). Basically, I would like to clean things up so my system runs as smoothly as it did when first out of the box.
Could you please offer some advice as to how I should go about doing this? Is there a process that I should be following in order to clean up my computer so everything is safely backed up? What other areas of my hard drive that I don't even know about should I be going into to free up space (caches, etc) .The Seagate is literally just out of the box.
    Cheers,
    Nick

I would suggest using Disk Utility to make two partitions on the Seagate, one the same size as your internal HD, the other for the remainder.
Then use Carbon Copy Cloner or similar to clone your internal disk, so that your Seagate is a bootable backup in case of problems.
Don't worry about caches, temporary files etc - let the OS take care of them.
You could then copy the contents of one of your big directories to the other partition on the Seagate, then delete from the internal disk and empty trash.
But longer term, use the Seagate as backup and internal as working, so I would suggest putting say a 1TB hard disk in place of your Superdrive and moving your bigger directories to that. Now all work is internal, with OS stuff on the original and your stuff on the not-yet-purchased disk, and when you backup (maybe every month for OS stuff, every week or even every day for work stuff) the OS stuff goes to one Seagate partition, the work stuff to the other. You have a bootable clone if your startup disk fails, and a backup of your work. For backing up to the work partition you could consider using Time Machine, so that you have several generations of security from accidental deletes, woopsies etc.

  • Some issues after clean installing windows 7 pro 64bit

    Hi,
I have a couple of issues, I clean installed windows 7 pro, 64bit, (vanilla) restored my license with ABR and used system update to download all the drivers. (no issues until here) But after restarting the system, I found this issues:
    1. I have to put the bios in legacy mode for system to boot. Otherwise it gives me a "no operating system found" message. Is there any way to make a proper installation for the system to boot in UEFI and LEGACY?
    2. System update didn't install thinkvantage center. (the program that stays in the taskbar). Should this be installed manually? Or system update should have installed it?
3*. I can not use lenovo driver page of my x120e. In IE it shows me repeatedly the wizard to choose my model, although I enter the correct info there. It starts all over again and again. Tried opera, I can see the drivers page, but I can't browse, or expand none of the sections. (all I can think of this, do I need java for the page to work?)
3*. UPDATE: After installing IE 9, java and flash player, still not working. Opera too. Google Chrome works fine.           What's the matter with IE and OPERA? What component do I need to make IE work with lenovo drivers download page?
Can anyone help me? Never had to deal with these issues.
    Thanks in advance

Who helped you today? Do not forget to thank him.
My hardware: TP x120e 0596-2ru. Windows 7, sp1, 64Bit, English, installed in UEFI mode.

    Hello,
Have you tried wiping the hard disk drive and reinstalling Windows 7 Professional x64 from the factory recovery discs while the BIOS is set to UEFI?  If so, did that work?

  • OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 can't be installed on MacBook Pro retina late 2013

OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 can't be installed on MacBook Pro retina late 2013
OS X Mavericks 10.9.1 installer is available in the App Store but it can't be downloaded because "OS X Mavericks can't be installed on this computer".
If the installer of version 10.9 is already in the application folder it can't be updated for the same reason.
I've seen that they are two versions of the updater that are downloadable from apple's website and one is specific for the MacBook Pro retina late 2013.
I suspect that the installer in the App Store is not an universal installer. It is stupid because you can't reinstall that Mac is needed.
I phoned to Apple (AppleCare) and they don't know why this happens.

    Hello,
Try to boot the 15" MBPr as target when connected to your MBA (if you have the right cables and adapters).
From the MBA, install on the 15" MBPr's disk, in that order :
The 10.9.1 update for Mavericks except MBPr
    Download
and then the 10.9.1 update for Mavericks specific for MBPr
    Download
The MBPr should be bootable again. I did it for an external HD.
    Hope this helps.
    Best,

  • Will icloud install on macbook pro with os 10.6.8

Will icloud install on macbook pro with OS 10.6.8?

    Welcome to the Apple community.
iCloud is not an application you can download and install independently. It is part of the OS X 10.7.2 operating system. So in essence no you cannot use iCloud with OS X 10.6.8 on your Mac.

  • How download and install on Macbook Pro.  Purchased software and installed on my desktop computer.

How do I download and install on MacBook Pro.  Installed once on my PC desktop but now have new Macbook Pro with no disc drives.

What version are you talking about and have you got the serial number?
If you want to install version 11 then you can download from Adobe website and use your serial number to activate it.  The only problem I can see is that your serial number might be for a windows system and I don't know if it would work on a Mac.  However, it is worth a try.
You are allowed 2 installations simultaneously so you should be OK in this respect.
    The download link is here:

Make sure you use the MAC to download it so that you get the correct version for it.

2.Can I have dual boot in my Macbook pro - with Mac and Windows ??

No, unless you install Windows, which you can certainly do. Boot Camp allows you to install any number of different operating systems.
If you're trying to use a website that refuses to load because it demands Internet Exploder, I suggest enabling the Develop menu in Safari's Preferences, and selecting a User Agent that placates the website.
