Clean Install on Tiger, correct way to back-up Podcast list, for reinstall?

I need to erase and install my hard drive to reinstall Tiger, I would like to know the correct way to back-up my Podcast list, so when I restore iTunes, all of my Podcast will be there, and all I will need to do is update to get the latest.
As always thank you,
Sebastian

I didn't know where the Podcast list was stored, so I did a test.
I copied the 'iTunes Library' file to new user account and launched iTunes for the first time. My library is on an EHD, so I had instant access.
The complete podcast list was present and updating was successful
If you backup the entire iTunes folder in ~/Users/YourUsername/Music, then all data is safe.
To keep all your preferences, including CD-data and iPod settings, backup the next files from ~/Users/YourUsername/Library/Preferences:
com.apple.iPod.plist
com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
com.apple.iTunes.plist
com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
CD Info.cidb
Before performing a complete re-install, I recommend to de-authorize your computer. If you format the HD, you could have an additional authorization:

Hope this helps.

  • How do I do a Clean install of Tiger and Classic?

My G4 came with Jaguar. OS 9 was part of the complete installation, that you could install or choose not to install. My computer has been having a lot of issues lately and I think that a clean install would be a good idea, especially, since I used an upgrade to install Panther and then installed Tiger on top of Panther. I want to install classic and Tiger. How do I do this properly? Thanks

I plan to back up my personal files and any
    downloaded software I have.
Amazing that. You've told us that numerous times, but
you've failed to provide us with information on
HOW you're going to do this. That is, please
explain WHAT you're using for the backup and
WHERE you're planning on using to store the
    backup.
All Power Macs come with the capability of burning CD's today. Mine can also burn DVD's, so backing up MY files is NOT a problem. I just can't clone my whole drive. Now, I'm not sure how this is pertinent in answering my question about how to properly do a clean install of Tiger and be able to install Classic. My son however, just told me he thinks that all I need to do is to clean-install Tiger. Then, insert the installation CD with classic on it that came with my computer. Find the invisible file, which is a disk image and drag the contents of the disk image to my computer. If anyone can tell me if this is correct, I would appreciate it.

  • Install old iLife from 10.3 disks onto iBook w/ a clean install of Tiger?

My ibook originally came with Panther 10.3. iLife was included on the install disks.
A few months ago, I did a clean install of Tiger. I then tried to reinstall iLife from the Panther 10.3 disks. However, only Garageband and iDVD show up ---iPhoto and iMovie don't show up at all. I've searched for these programs, but they are not installed.
I spoke to an apple rep and he said that I should NEVER install old programs from a Panther disk onto a clean install of Tiger. However, the guy did not seem confident in what he told me. He said my mac should be very unstable and that I shouldn't even be able to use Garageband....but I have had no problems with my mac or using Garageband for the past 4 months.
Is he correct? And if so, should I do a clean install of Panther, and then upgrade to Tiger? I wonder if this will correctly install the whole iLife suite?

  • Clean install of Tiger on new HD. Clone? or what....

is the best thing to do. I have just bought a spiffing new Hitachi 7200 HD for my PB and am torn between creating a clone using Drive Genius and copying it back or should I just copy my Home folder to the clean instalation of Tiger. Of course I would need to reinstall all my progs.
If some can point me in the right direction I would be gratefull.
I have also bought a HD enclosure USB 2 for the old 5400 original drive.

I hope you are aware that you cannot boot the computer with a USB drive. If you planned to clone to the USB drive, then boot from it, you will not be able to do so. USB drives cannot boot OS X. You will need a Firewire drive instead. Best swap that USB case for a Firewire case.
If I were you I would clone your existing system to an external Firewire drive. I would then boot from the Firewire drive and upgrade to Tiger. If all works well and you have no problems arise, then you can decide whether to install Tiger cleanly on the internal hard drive or to clone back from the external drive.
If you choose the above then before creating the initial clone you must do the following:
Boot from your OS X Installer. Be sure to use the installer for the version of OS X you have installed. After the installer loads select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (or Utilities menu if using Tiger.) After DU loads select your OS X volume from the list on the left, click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.0.6 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Do not clone unless your hard drive is verified as OK.
Next prep the new external hard drive as follows:
    1. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.
Last, perform the clone using Disk Utility:
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder unless it's already open.
    2. Select the startup volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    4. Drag the startup volume to the Source entry field.
    5. Select the backup volume from the leftside list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Test the clone by opening Startup Disk and setting the external drive as the startup disk. Click on Restart.

  • Can't do a clean install of Tiger - receive error message

I am running Tiger 10.4.11. I've had some system quirks recently, so I wanted to do a clean install of Tiger using the install disk. But when I insert the install disk and click on the installer, I get an error message that says "Mac OS X 10.4 can't be installed on this machine. Please consult the documentation for the list of supported Macintosh computers." Any ideas what is going on here?? Any help appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Bob

It turns out I had the Tiger disk from my old Powerbook, and not the Tiger disk from my Macbook. That solves that question.
However, it still won't let me do a clean reinstall where my data is preserved - it said it had to reformat the disk which would erase all the data.

  • After a clean install, what old files to put back in?

Was having nothing but trouble after upgrading from Tiger to Leopard on my G5 tower. Biggest problem was Safari taking 3 minutes or so to boot up—did all the suggested cleaning of prefs, etc., but nothing worked. Also Elements would pop up once on the dock then quit, as would Ready!Set!Go, and a new FruitMenu from Insanity didn’t load properly.
So went ahead and got out an old hard drive, hooked it up, and put a clean install Leopard on it. Booted from it, and guess what-- Safari comes right up, Elements installed and works as it should, and everything is looking good. Did a 10.5.7 upgrade, put in the Safari software update, and it’s booting right away also.
This is great, so now I’ll do a clean install on my original drive, and then pull the pics, music, etc. from my Time Machine back up disk to it. Here is what I need advice on:
Which files do I pull over from my old user account and System Library to get the prefs, mail, etc. that I was using before, and more importantly, which files DON’T I want to pull over and perhaps screw up the new user account and system.
    Thanks ……….

  • Downloading and reinstalling Adobe Photoshop CS6. Backing up Photoshop CS6 for reinstall

I had to return my cintiq companion HD tablet and will have to reinstall all of my software once i get it back now. I can't find where to download and install my CS6. I'd also like to create a backup for if this happens again, so I don't have to find it and redownload off the website. How do I do this? I would also like to install it on my laptop as well. I know for my hard copies of photoshop I used to have it was no trouble to put it on my multiple devices, is this still possible? Sometimes I like to use my tablet or travel, and sometimes I like to work on my actual computer, so hoping I can download it on both. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    -Shana

I had it installed on my cintiq companion just fine before. I had to return it to the manufacturer because it quit charging. Also looking to how to back it up so i dont have to download it again from the website in the future, and also how to put it on my multiple devices IE my laptop AND my cintiq. I purchased CS6 because there is no diskdrive on the companion it has full windows 8 and CS6 was what I purchased so I could download without having to be part of the cloud.
Any other answers please? Would be greatly appreciated.

  • Is there a way to change default Reminder List for new Reminders?

In iCal, I have Reminders showing.  I have three Reminder Lists, but I've only got one List checked so only that List's Reminders show up.  When I create a new Reminder, iCal always wants to create it in one of the unchecked Lists - always the same List, but not the one currently showing.  I always have to finish creating the new Reminder, and then change it to be part of the other Reminder List.  And, because iCal insists on creating the new Reminder in one of the unchecked (non-displayed) Lists, it checks the box for me so now I have to go an uncheck it again to restore the display of only one List.
Am I doing something wrong or is iCal Reminder creation just this clunky?
Is there some way to tell iCal to use a particular Reminder List for creating new Reminders in?

Duh.  Found it right on the General tab of iCal's Preferences.
I really don't know how I missed that.

  • Repeated restart/bluescreen with clean install of Tiger

    Hi,
Been running 10.4.7 just fine on my dual G4 MDD/FW800 Mac. I only had the original 128GB hard drive plus an external 250GB hard drive.
I added an internal 500GB hard drive, split it into two equal-sized volumes, ran a verify/permission check and things are fine on the new drive.
My plan was to copy/clone the existing boot disk image over to the new disk for more room. Along the way, I tried to remove an emergency boot drive from Tech Tool Pro (on the original drive), and this rendered my original drive un-bootable and unrepairable by the Disk Utility via the installation disc. I believe I have most of my data backed up, but I would like to avoid re-formatting that disk for now.
So I figured I'd simply re-install a fresh version of Tiger to one of my new volumes on the new 500GB drive. I had checked into this, and I believe my MDD/FW800 machine can tolerate a drive this large. Plus, disk utility didn't complain, and it all looked good after partitioning.
I ran the Tiger installer, pointing to a completely new install onto volume1 of the new drive. Install went fine, then it re-booted. When it came back up, it said that I need to re-start my computer (blue screen with a gray box and this message in a few different languages). Okay. Done. Then the screen comes up again. Re-start. Same screen. Again and again.
I have tried to install probably a half-dozen times now. Once I was lucky enough to hit the welcome screen after the reboot, and then when I hit the "transfer data from another partition" option (hoping that the file system on my original/old drive was still readable even if I could not boot), it told me to re-start, and then I got into that loop again.
I have run the Apple Hardware Test CD in loop mode overnight, and no problems were reported after 12 iterations.
Any suggestions? Can this computer model really tolerate a drive larger than 128GB? I'm hesitant to try and re-format my original one (in case there's something there that I did not back up and I can read it later) just yet and install to that.
Oh, along the way, when I could not get the TechTool disc out of the machine (and before I discovered the process of booting to Open Firmware and using the 'eject cd' command) I had tried to open the CD drawer with the manual pinhole. At some point, the disc started spinning again with it open a bit, and it sounded nasty...I don't care much at this point if the TechTool disc was damaged, but I think the DVD drive is just fine as the installer can verify it's own installation/disk image and I can boot to it or the hardware test CD just fine.

I was able to boot into safe mode after re-starting the machine. Then I immediately took the OS and all other software updates. Eventually after that I could re-boot consistently. Thank goodness for the Backup program. I had all my user settings, music, pictures, desktop, document files, address book, iCal settings, etc. backed up, so it was pretty easy to restore it all.
I'm still not sure why it would not re-start correctly just after the Tiger installation.

  • Clean Install of Tiger or Leopard on PPC Mac Mini?

I have an older PPC G4 Mac Mini (the last one Apple made before they went Intel).
Earlier this year I bought an iMac and transferred everything of interest from the Mini to the iMac. I would now like to wipe-clean the Mini and re-purpose it.
So, my question is in 2 parts:
    1) The iMac came with OSX Leopard and I purchased (and installed) OSX Snow Leopard. Can I use the OSX Leopard disc that came with the iMac to install Leopard on the PPC Mac Mini?
    2) If I can technically do #1, would I want to? My think is that the OSX Tiger that came with the Mini is a PPC binary while the OSX Leopard would probably wind up being a universal binary. Would this adversely impact performance?

    1) The iMac came with OSX Leopard and I purchased (and installed) OSX Snow Leopard. Can I use the OSX Leopard disc that came with the iMac to install Leopard on the PPC Mac Mini?
No. The copy of Mac OS X that came with the iMac is licensed only for use with that system, even though you've upgraded to Snow Leopard.
In addition, it's probably only going to work on an Intel-based Mac and won't even install on your PPC mini. The code may be universal but the installer is probably written to only work with the iMac the disk came with.
If you want Leopard on the PPC mini, you need to purchase a retail copy of Leopard. There should be no performance impact; in fact you may find that Leopard runs a bit faster than Tiger. Leopard will take up a bit more space on the hard drive, though, than did Tiger.
    Regards.

  • Did a clean install, now i want my setting back and apps.

Having a problem with using time machine, it wont let me pick a old back up? the only one i can use is the one from the clean machine.  How do I get to use a old back up?

Please visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.  One of the items contains information on how to access a backup from another machine, such as what you are doing, technically.

Very simple: I do NOT want to use Firefox 5.0. I did not intend for it to be installed on this computer and need to get rid of it and go back to Firefox 3.6.3. Please send instructions on how I can do that without loosing my cookies and bookmarks.
I have been a fan and supporter of Mozilla and Firefox from the very beginning, but this latest release that appears to be a way to look like Google Chrome (that I hate) has me just about ready to hold my nose and go back to IE.
    What were you guys thinking?????
    Thank you.

Install the following Add-on until Google releases a new version of their toolbar that is compatible with Firefox 5. Google needs to test their toolbar with Firefox 5 and change one line in their code to make it compatilbe. Most Add-ons that worked with Firefox 4 should still work with Firefox 5, but the developers need to update a line in their Add-on's code to indicate with which versions of Firefox the Add-on is compatible. The following Add-on adds a "Compatibility" button in your Add-ons > Extensions that you may need to click after installing it and restarting Firefox.

  • Any way to implment a exception list for  alerts?

    HI all,
we use RWB alerts to monitor our XI systems. I create a alert rule which includes almost all interfaces. But for some interfaces, we don't want thme to trigger any alerts.  I want to know if there is any way to implement something like a exception list so that some specified interfaces can be excluded ?
    Regards,
    Hui

    hi chirag,
we have many interfaces and most of them must generate alerts in case of errors. but some of them not.
I don't want to create a alert rule per interface because then I need create a lot of alert rules. What I expect a general rule for all interfaces and a exception list to exclude some interfaces.
