Clean install v4 - Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Lib "buffer overrun detected" error

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library "buffer underrun detected" has only started to occur after installing v4.
i realise plugins etc. might be out of date so i clean installed[no bookmarks, no preferences, install directory cleared etc.] same deal.
firefox does not "Crash" in the traditonal sense (ie. "not responding" generic Microsoft window appears and u must select to close process... this... is different. i get the dialog box about the buffer overrun (and can quite happily continue to stream video/audio from the site i am on, until i click "ok" on the error and firefox craps itself... also at the point of crash and dialog box appearance i can no longer access new webpages- and the process stays in the list of active processes after clicking OK and must be killed before it can be relaunched... )
p.s. of the two types of crash i have experienced thus far, the buffer overrun is FAR more prevalent.

A buffer overrun appears usually, when adding more information to a buffer than it was designed to hold,

  • Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error in T430S during HP printer install

    I just bought a T430S Windows 8 and I'm having problems installing the software and drivers for my HP Photosmart D-110-a printer. I've owned the printer for a year and it was no problem installing the software that it came with on my previous Dell Windows 7. Every time I try to install from the CD-Rom or download the software from HP, I get a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Error message. Please someone help!
    By the way, I am able to print to the machine because I think HP printer driver was preloaded on the Start screen from Lenovo. Is it possible the reason why I can't install the software that the my HP printer came with, is because HP driver was preloaded? The issue of not being able to install the full software, is that I can't monitor ink levels or scan items from the computer.

    It looks to me like HP never made a windows8 driver for that printer. You might read this:

  • Labview 8.6 Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime error while installing

    I am installing Labview 8.6 on my laptop which is having Windows Vista Home premium edition.
     When the installation begins an error occurs (after the acceptance of licence step in the installation procedure) with the title on the error window "Microsoft Visual C ++ Runtime Library " and displays the program set up path with these statements " This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."
    I am unable to install it on my laptop. Can anybody please help me.
    Thank you

    hi
    broadly the error could be because of two reasons:
    1. Runtime Engine exe file is corrupt in the CD you are using to install LabVIEW.
    Solution: Download LabVIEW Runtime Engine 8.6 from http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/1101/lang/en
    2. There's some problem with the windows installation in your PC.
    Solution: you know reinstall windows
    But before trying to reinstall, make sure you installed the msi.dll using "Regsvr32 (system folder path)\msi.dll" . I'm sure you did.

  • Windows 7 Error Message: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error.... Followed by Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working

    I am running a system that is not quite 6 months old, which is loaded with Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit.
    The error message that I get is as follows: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library.  Runtime error!  Program C:\windows\Explorer.exe.  This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.  Please contact the
    application's support team for more information.
    Once I respond to that message, I get a message that says "Windows Explorer has stopped working.  Then I get "Windows Explorer is re-starting"
    I don't know if the next event is related - today, immediately after getting the message above, I got a pop-up that said "An update to Adobe Flash Player is available" - and I am given the option of installing it or not.  Today, I did not install
    the update - although I recall having accepted this update in the past (again, I don't know if the two situations always occur together).
    Is there some help I can be provided to correct this problem?  I have looked at several related topics in this database, but have not found anything that seems to directly relate to my question.
       Thanks!    Mark

    Hi,
    Did you try to reinstall the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable

    What about to boot the computer in safe mode and Clean Boot to test this issue?

  • J2re-1_4_1_01-windows-i586.exe  Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtim

    I am using Netscape 6.2.1, Windows 98
    I download Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition 1.4.1_01
    * Download j2re-1_4_1_01-windows-i586.exe .
    Filesize = 8,015,928 bytes.
    When I looked in the directory the file was listed as
    j2re-1_4_1_01-windows-i586
    7,829KB
    Does the file downloaded size discrepency have significance?
    Double clicking on the file activated the process:
    "After the InstallShield Wizard
    Setup Status
    Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1_01 Setup is performing the requested operations."
    After that function appered to finish with a 100% complete, I received the following error:
    "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
    Runtime Error!
    Program: C:\PROGRAM FILES\JAVA\J2RE1.4.1_01\LIB\UNPACK.EXE
    abnormal program termination
    OK"
    Note, I may have installed Visual C++ in the past but have never used it. Does this error imply there are some missing links to Visual C++ that have confused and caused an error?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    [email protected]

    Hi, crlare,
    The official file size
    8,015,928 bytes
    = (8,015,928 / 1024) kilobytes, since 1 kbyte = 1024 bytes
    = 7828.0546875 kbytes
    = 7829 kbytes after rounding up
    Therefore your downloaded file seems to have the correct size. To make a better check,
    1. right click on your downloaded file;
    2. select Properties;
    3. check the size in bytes in brackets against the official size in bytes; the "bytes used" is the actual space allocated to store the data.
    The Visual C++ runtime error is caused by a faulty installation of the Java bundle, which could have arisen due to interference by other applications that are open during the installation of the Java bundle. e.g. Interference by virus protection software running in the background. This error has also been known to occur in the installations of other programs.
    To fix the problem, uninstall the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) you have installed, and reinstall it with all non-critical applications closed:
    1. Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel.
    2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs, select Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1_01 (or something similar), click on the Add/Remove button to uninstall the JRE.
    3. Reboot your system.
    4. Close all non-critical applications, including background running programs such as antivirus programs and Microsoft Task Scheduler. This can be checked/done by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del, selecting each item except Explorer (and Systray), and clicking End Task for each.
    5. Reinstall the JRE.
    6. Reboot your system.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi,
    Mostly, this kinds of error can be caused by two factors:
    1.Runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries are missing.
    2.Software problem.
    If the issue is caused by #1, you can reinstall the Runtime components of Visual C++ Libraries to resolve the problem.
    Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86)
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9B2DA534-3E03-4391-8A4D-074B9F2BC1BF&displaylang=en
    If the issue still persists after installing above package, the issue should be a software problem. I suggest you take a clean boot check whether it is a software conflict issue. If not, it is still recommended to address the problem with manufacturer support. Thank you for your understanding.
    For your convenience:
    Clean Boot
    =============================
    1. Click Start, type "MSCONFIG" (without the quotations) in the Search Bar and Press "Enter" to start the System Configuration Utility.
    2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray).
    3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK".
    4. Restart the computer and test the issue.
    Note: Clean Boot is a troubleshooting step. If some programs have been disabled, we can re-enable them later. If you see the System Configuration Utility, check the box of "Don't show this message" and then click "OK".
    Please monitor the system in the Clean Boot environment. If the problem does not occur, it indicates that the problem is related to one application or service we have disabled. You may use the MSCONFIG tool again to re-enable the disabled item one by one to find out the culprit.
    Hope it helps.

  • Buffer Overrun detected - Microsoft Visual  C++ Runtime Library

    My computer, an HP 3400+ with XP home edition has been running fine. I decided I want to watch movie trailers in HD from Yahoo Movies web site and it says I need to upgrade to Quicktime 7 in order to run it. Now it works fine on my laptop so I know it works. I click the "Download Quicktime 7 to view HD" button and go through the process. It goes fine. I reboot and try to run Quicktime and I get this message.
    "Buffer Overrun detected - Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library - Program Quicktime Player."
    On Explorer and Firefox it still has not recognized that I downloaded the new Quicktime 7.
    I am able to right click the Quicktime icon and go to the preference but I can't run the program. I even ran the install and did the repair button but no luck. I find no answers on the net.
    Any ideas?

    I did ... well it didn't get as complicated as there since in my case the QT installer worked and fixed the problem.

  • Error message Microsoft visual c++ runtime library

    I have new computer with windows 8.1, 64 bit.  My computer recognizes the hp photosmart C6200 (I have c6280) but will not let me download the software for it.  I downloaded the print & scan doctor.  I get all the way to the point where it says it's extracting then that box disappears and a few minutes later the box opens with microsoft visual c++ run time library, program:c:\users\theresa\appdata\local\temp\7zs3cde\setup.exe, This application has requested run time to terminate in unusual way.
    Please help - I know the printer is an older model but still works great and others who come to my home are able to use it on their new computers so I would like to to.
    Thank you

    Hello. I understand you are experiencing a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime error when installing your printer. I will do my best to assist you with the issue. The first step I implore you to perform is to backup your computer. If a mistake is made when performing some of these troubleshooting steps, Windows might have to be reinstalled automatically. Additionally, a reinstall of Windows will likely be required if the troubleshooting steps, below, do not resolve the issue. Here is some information on backing up your computer on Windows 8: http://h10010.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c03270359
    Before any other troubleshooting is done, please reference this HP document: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c01609772
    On this page, please click the "SP40669 File Download" under the "See also" section. Once you do this, a patch will download. When finished downloading, double-click it to install it on the computer. Afterward, a level 3 uninstall of the printer software is required. This will remove any spare HP software from the unsuccessful installation attempts. Here are some instructions on performing a level 3 uninstall:
    a) On your keyboard, press the Windows key and the letter "R" key to open the Run windows. In the search bar type %temp% and hit enter.
    b) Locate the correct folder starting with "7z" (the correct folder contains "Util" and "CCC" folders).
    c) Open folder "Util".
    d) Open folder "CCC".
    e) Please run the L3uninstall.bat.
    f) When the uninstall has completed, restart the computer.
    The next step is to perform a full virus scan of the computer. Viruses and malware have been known to create situations where a runtime error will occur. Please use your Anti-Virus software to perform a full scan of the computer.
    Next, I would like you to perform a Disk cleanup in "System Tools". I have provided information on how to do this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows/delete-files-using-disk-cleanup#delete-files-using-disk-c...
    Finally, before reinstalling the software, you should download and install the latest version of Adobe flash player: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
    Now, I would like you to utilize the Printer Install Wizard to install the printer software. I have included an HP document on how to use it and where to download it: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c02691615
    (Please note that unless specified otherwise, use the Printer Install Wizard to install the printer software when my instructions suggest installing the printer software.)
    If this issue is not resolved by the patch, I would like you to perform a System Restore. I want you to bring the computer back to the earliest restore point possible, in an attempt to dodge the runtime error. Here is a document on how to perform a System Restore: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windows7/products/features/system-restore
    Once the System Restore is completed, try installing the printer software again. If the installation fails with the same error, please perform another level 3 uninstall, and proceed with further troubleshooting.
    The next step is to download and install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010, 2008 and 2005 Redistributable Packages. You will find the download links to these packages below:
    2005 - http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=26347
    2008 - http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/download/details.aspx?id=5582

  • Adobe album photo 'reconnect' causes Runtime error in Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

    When I try to open photos from any of my Adobe 3.2 Starter Album albums, it tells me I must reconnect the files.  Adobe browses for them, and can usually locate them on my hard drive.  Lately, it can't find them, and I have to 'browse' to locate them.  When I do, and open the photo in 'My Pictures', I get an immediate message: Prog: ...hop Album Starter Edition\3.2\Apps\ComponentLauncher.exe. This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.  Please contact the application's support team for more information.
    The message is generated by Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library.  When I go back to look at the photo in the album, there is a 'ripped' icon at the bottom of the photo.  ALSO: The videos I had stored in my albums, with .avi extensions, which also have hard drive backup, no longer play (with the exception of one), and a notification came up requesting codecs.  When I tried to play them on either RealPlayer or Windows Media, they were playing with the screen showing random swirling colors, as if they were mp3's.
