Clean installation of system 7.1 on Macintosh SE/30 ?

Could someone please advise  how to do a clean installation of System 7.1 on my old Macintosh SE/30 ?
It used to run 6.0.5, I have done an upgrade to 7.1 , but I think I have somehow messed it up.
For instance , the Apple menu is empty.
It still boots fine, and I can read floppies.
I did google a bit, but didn't find any step-by-step instructions how to do the clean installation.
I've got the floppies Install 1 & 2, Tidbits, Printing, Fonts, Disk Tools.
Could some kind soul please advise?
(I've got Macbook's , but I am not really familiar with the vintage Macintoshes.)

Would it be correct to assume that you have the (more common) 1.44 MB System 7.1 floppies (HD diskettes)?
If you do not wish to keep anything of the existing hard disk contents (and if you have backup copies of systems and applications that you want to install), you could simply boot the computer from a Disk Tools floppy and then use Apple HD SC Setup to initialise (format/erase) an Apple hard drive. If the internal hard drive is not an original Apple drive, or if an Apple drive had been reformatted by another program, a modified/special startup floppy with a third-party formatting utility would be needed instead. Thereafter, start up from the System 7.1 Install 1 disk and carry out a fresh installation.
BTW, the floppy drive is first in the boot order, so a Macintosh SE/30 should start from a (bootable) diskette even if the hard disk contains a system. If there is a problem doing this, one can try holding down the four keys Command(Apple) + Option + Shift + Delete(Backspace).
Since old system floppies become unstable with time, it is a good idea to create a set of sector-copied backup disks. The typical application for this would be Disk Copy 4.2. This program was earlier available from Apple, but the older software downloads list is not there any more. A Disk Copy 6.3.3 page can still be found, though.

  • Clean installation of windows 8.1 pro on Thinkpad e550 activation problems.

    I have installed a SSD hard drive and need a clean instalations of windows for development using multiple platforms.
    My plan was to have a tri-boot on three partitions on a mbr formated drive.
    -Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit;
    -WIndows 8.1 Pro 32bit, and;
    -WIndows 7 Ultimate 64bit using downgrade rights.
    The following steps were used:
    1. Switching the hard drive and cloning the oem copy to the first partition;
    2. Activate windows getting the OEM key from the system (so I had no hardware changes);
    3.Use the anytime upgrade in the system properties to upgrade to pro;
    4.Clone the windows 7 OS from the old PC and place in on a partion;
    5.Download both install media for windows 8.1 Pro from MS Creating Install media;
    6. Create media as detailed here;
    7. Modify the install to allow entry of key after install as shown here because pro license and oem keys where not acepted during install;
    8.Went to BIOS. Turned on Legacy and disable secure boot;
    9.Install Windows 8.1 both versions, and;
    10. Repair boot to load all three OS.
    Good, Now I have all three OS installed all working. However, The pro product key will not activate the windows 8.1 pro and the oem key won't be acepted saying it is the wrong version of windows.
    So called MS activation line and they say i need to contact the OEM for activation and downgrade keys for 7 even though i paid for the upgrade through the MS store and the product was already activated once on the system.
    Questions:
    1. How can i activate the Windows 8.1 pro via Lenovo?
    2. How can I activate the Windows 7 copy under downgrade rights with Windows 8.1 pro?
    3. Am i missing something with the UEFI/BIOS? (Note:I need to use mbr not GPT format on the drive.)
    I have switch the UEFI mode/duel modes during install without success.

    What VC are you using?
    I use VMWare Player (free) and use it to create virtual clients as needed.  Typically the virtual clients are "clean installs" from ISOs.  VMWare has it so well mechanized that there's not much to it.
    It's pretty quick and easy to install Player and give it a try.  Another advantage to that approach is that there's only a single OS at the top level and backups can capture the whole mess w/out having to deal with 2 or 3 different OSs and their partitions.

  • Multiple clean installation failures-HELP!

    Keep getting error message "there were errors installing software. Please try again" in the middle of clean installation.
    Have disconnected all peripherals and used disk utility and Norton to check disk. Disk OK. Recently added 256K RAM to facilitate installation. Have no way of checking whether this RAM is the problem (ie, on another MAC) unless there is another way.
    Is there anything else I should try to facilitate installation? Thank you!!

    It is possible the hard disk you are installing to is damaged, or that the installer disks you are installing from are damaged. Try replacing the hard drive first, and then if that doesn't work, get replacement installation disks.
    Note, you can only install newer retail installation disks, or the original disks which came with that Mac. You can't use the installation disks which came with another Mac. Norton's repairs should not be attempted on any system 8.1 or higher. It is like playing Russian Roulette with your data. Some have no trouble with it, but others have significant issues which happen. Only using the proper version of Disk Utility, Alsoft Disk Warrior (3.0.3 for Mac OS X 10.4), or Techtool Pro (4.0.5 or later for Mac OS X 10.4) will repair the directory of those systems. Your best thing to do before installing or repairing anything is back up your data:

  • Have Upgrade Graphic Card Driver, But Still Cannot Adjust Screen Brightness and Sleep Button Not Showing After Clean Installation of Windows 8.1

    I have done clean installation of Windows 8.1 on my HP Pavilion G4.
    Then I realize that I cannot put my computer on sleep mode and cannot adjust screen brightness.
    I understand that those problems caused by the graphic card driver.
    My computer is running on AMD Radeon HD 6400 series.
    Thus, I manually search on internet and found a latest graphic card update on microsoft site that is claimed compatible on windows 8.1 (link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/apps/dn344644.aspx).
    I've upgraded it into the latest one. I've check on Device Manager, the driver is running well.
    But my problem did not solved!
    Please give me the solution!

    Hi,
    How about go to Device Manager, then uninstall Graphic driver and restart your computer, system will install its build in graphic drver. You can have a try.
    In addition, access to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Brightness and set its value to 100 for test.

  • Need to do a clean installation but....

    My computer at work has been going bonkers on me for the last couple of weeks. I've been having issues with Microsoft: Entourage won't open for nothing. Neither Word or Excel. I tried re-installing them and nothing. When I open Word it's telling me someone else is using it, can I connect to the internet? And when I try to go to accounts to go to Start Up items, the spinning beach ball of death appears for minutes on end. And that's not a good sign.
    So I want to try to start the whole process over on a weekend. But the thing is we used to have someone else do all the tech work at my office. But he no longer works there.
    So I will doing everything when it comes doing the installation and so forth. Just some of the networking portion my boss will be doing that.
    But the clean installation process: it's been 5 years since I've had to this on my computer. And here is the list of the discs that we have:
    Software Restore 1 of 4
    Mac OS9 Install
    Mac OSX Install
    Applications
    Now which of these discs do I put in to erase the hard drive? Thanks!!!

    Reinstalling will not fix the problem with Office. You or someone else on your network is using Office under the same serial number (one or both of you are using pirated software.) Office automatically checks on any network to verify that no one is using Office registered under the same serial number.
    You need the OS X Installer Disc One that came with the computer in order to reformat the drive:
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disk. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled, if supported.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process will take 30 minutes to an hour or more depending upon the drive size.
    Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.

  • Mac OS X Lion Server - Clean Installation

    I do have a Mac mini server with OS X Snow Leopard Server. I would like to go to Lion Server but I don't want to use the default installation method.
    I understood, that Lion Server usually is no operating system but an App, which is to be installed by App Store. This is a nice feature for users who have any OS X Lion device such as a Mac Book or an iMac and want to have server features with them.
    But this doesn't fit for a dedicated server system!
    How can I perform a clean installation of OS X Lion Server on a new partition?
    (I don't want to upgrade my Snow Leopard Server partition to Lion Server, before I have tested that everything is working as expected. And I especially don't want to install Lion first and than add Lion Server as an App.)

    You can purchase Lion server from the app store
    and when the download is complete and prompted to
    install, select cancel.  Then, locate the downloaded installer
    in the Applications folder and follow these instructions
    to create an install disk or USB stick:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20080989-263/how-to-create-an-os-x-lion-ins tallation-disc/?tag=mncol
    Then, you should be able to install on a partition of
    your chosing.
    I strongly suggest that you clone your current install
    and backup any data should something go awry.

  • Aperture doesn't open after clean installation of Mountain Lion

    I have just done a clean installation  of mountain lion.
    After that, I have downloaded my copy of aperture from the store and installed it ( i think, just becase when done, at the store says that it is installed )
    But when I try to launch aperture from de applications menu, an error appears and aperture quits immediatelly. The error says that, "an error has occurred. You should reinstall aperture or could be your operating system is not supported", more or less, translating it from the Spanish.
    I have been searching for the installed files with finder, but nothing seems to be installed at the hard disk. Even the library that tipically appears at the Pictures folder doesn't appear.
    Could somebody help me, please?
    kind regards to everybody.

    Many thanks for your answer.

  • Importing Mail Mailboxes after a clean installation of Lion

    I have had to re-install Lion (10.7.3, a clean installation). I have now been able to download messages still on my Internet provider's server, but how can I transfer them from my bootable cloned copy of my entire system, made just before re-installing the OS?
    Mail offers to export messages (Mailbox >Export Mailbox). Could I boot on my cloned backup, export each mailbox, then in some way import them into the new Lion system?
    But my Mail's File > Import Mailboxes is greyed out, and Apple's Help ("Import mailboxes" doesn't work).
    Or could I drag the old mailboxes from the backup, but where are they?
    I have a Time Machine backup which will have the messages, but again, where? I mounted TM, tried Mail > Import Mailboxes and selected the Mail application. TM whirred for ages and I eventually had to force quit mail after the SBOD appeared.
    Hoping for some ideas.

    If you are installing from the DMG, I think so.   However, once installed to a hard drive or flash drive as a bare bones bootable 10.7 system the only time an internet connection would be needed is if you have Software Update setup in System Preferences, or Quicktime setup in System Preferences for updating your software.
    You can setup a clone software on that bootable drive such as Superduper or Carbon Copy Cloner that can get you off the ground and running to verify that you aren't having any hardware issues with your system, instead of trying to eliminate software issues on a fully loaded 10.7 system.
    Of course you'd want two clone backups of your fully loaded system before you tried that.  A Time Machine backup of your fully loaded system can work too, as long as it is to a hard drive that is at least twice as large as the original.
    The only reason to keep the DMG version of it around is if you lack the space or funds for space to have a fully installed backup.  But then you are depending on the internet anyway!

  • How can I reinstall a MacOSX clean installation?

    Hi, I need to restore Mac OSX in my Macbook Air 13'' (mid 2012) to factory settings (clean). The laptop came with Lion pre-installed, but then I upgraded to Mountain Lion (10.8) and later to 10.8.2 with patches.
    I've been reading around and tried the following options:
    (1) Installing Mountain Lion from USB:
    I created a bootable USB (16GB) with an InstallESD.dmg image of Mountain Lion, but after restarting the laptop with the "Option" key hold and selecting the "Mac OSX" icon from the boot menu, I'm getting a prohibited icon and an eternal spinner.
    (2) "Reinstall OSX" option:
    After restarting with the "Option" (or "Command"+R), selecting the "Recovery 10.8.2" icon from the boot menu and then selecting the "Reinstall OSX" option from the list, it connects to the Internet to "download" and after a while I get exactly the same setup I got... No clean installation as I guessed.
    Is there any way to get a fresh copy of OSX (preferably installed from USB) in the laptop? Possibly by getting an specific InstallESD.dmg version I can install...
    Thanks a lot.

    A "clean" installation is not possible unless you first erase the target volume.
    Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
    Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
    Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
          left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
            the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
          the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
    Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
                because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Crashing after Clean Installation Yosemite 10.10.3

    Hello guys, I ve a problem since I installed Yosemite 10.10.3 (clean installation). I had the oldest version of Yosemite but when 10.10.3 released I decided to make a clean installation. After a few days I got the first crash and a few minutes ago got the newest. I'm very disappointed because I use Mac OS X 1.5 years now and  it's the first time my system crashes. I don't know how to resolve this problem. The only thing I did was a Hardware Test that was fine and a Hard Disk Verification that was also fine. I'll post both of the reports and I'd like your opinion.

  • No Sound after clean installation of windows 7 from Vista

    I had a problem with vista on my Hp dv6809wm laptop. My sound driver kept deleting itself and when I would do a system recovery it suddely worked again, but only for a short while. Eventually it stopped working entirely. Then my next step was an HP driver recovery, which also worked a couple times but then stopped. After a couple weeks I decided to purchase Windows 7 through my school and do a "clean" installation to wipe out everything and start fresh. Well when I finally got done, my sound still doesnt work, and im still getting the red x over the sound icon, I have no sound driver. HP support has no sound drivers for my computer for windows 7 or HP, only 3 for vista, I have tried them all and I get different error messages each time, usually saying driver not found (isnt that the point of downloading it?) or it will say cannot find media something. I have no idea what to do. Please help

    There is posibilily for hardware problem, broken sound chip in particular.
    Backup all of your data and try HP system recovery, choose factory installed setting.
    It will restored all software and drivers as "new" condition.
    If it does not fix the sound problem, 100% you have hardware problem.
    Installing Win7 wont fix it.

  • After the full clean installation of Lion, the MBP 13" has started too be too much slow. How can i check it out in order to solve this big problem? tks in advance!

    After i completed a full and clean installation of Lion, (it's to say not upgrading Snow Leopard but inizialing the hd and installing the new OS), every operations have started to make the laptop too much slow just working on Safari or Iphoto. How can i check out if everything is running finely or searchinf out something wrong?
    thanks in advance

  • My newest iMac from a year ago is showing signs of slowing down its processing capability. Notice it especially in Aperture where I get the whirling dervish thing sometimes for a minute or more and once it crashed. Is there a way to "clean up the system"?

    My newest iMac from a year ago is getting very sluggish. I notice it particularly in Aperture. I get the whirling dervish thing going on an operation sometimes for many seconds, even a minute or more and once it just crashed and I had to restart with the button. So I'm wondering if there is some way to "clean up the system" that is built into the iMac or if there is a reliable app I can obtain that will clean things up. I'm supposed to have a super fast processor in this version of iMac and lots of hard drive space and RAM. What gives? Any suggestions?

    Things You Can Do To Resolve Slow Downs
    If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
    Start with visits to:     OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney;
                                      The X Lab: The X-FAQs;
                                      The Safe Mac » Mac Performance Guide;
                                      The Safe Mac » The myth of the dirty Mac;
                                      Mac maintenance Quick Assist.
    Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion
    Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    Repair the Hard Drive - Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
    Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the Utilites Menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD disk icon and click on the arrow button below.
    When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. If no errors are reported, then click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
    Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
    For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
    Note: Alsoft ships DW on a bootable DVD that will startup Macs running Snow Leopard or earlier. It cannot start Macs that came with Lion or later pre-installed, however, DW will work on those models.
    Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
    OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or later and should not be installed.
    OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive.
    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Protection
    An excellent link to read is Tom Reed's Mac Malware Guide.
    Also, visit The XLab FAQs and read Detecting and avoiding malware and spyware.
    See these Apple articles:
              Mac OS X Snow Leopard and malware detection
              OS X Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
              OS X Mountain Lion- Protect your Mac from malware
              About file quarantine in OS X
    If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using VirusBarrier Express 1.1.6 or Dr.Web Light both from the App Store. They're both free, and since they're from the App Store, they won't destabilize the system. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.)
    Troubleshooting Applications
    I recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX, Mavericks Cache Cleaner, or Cocktail that you can use for removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc. Corrupted cache, log, or temporary files can cause application or OS X crashes as well as kernel panics.
    If you have Snow Leopard or Leopard, then for similar repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. Applejack does not work with Lion and later.
    Basic Backup
    For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
    1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
    2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
        used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
        requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
        drive being backed up.
    Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
      1. Carbon Copy Cloner
      2. Get Backup
      3. Deja Vu
      4. SuperDuper!
      5. Synk Pro
      6. Tri-Backup
    Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files. For help with using Time Machine visit Pondini's Time Machine FAQ for help with all things Time Machine.
    Referenced software can be found at MacUpdate.
    Additional Hints
    Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
    Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
    Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
    Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
    Pre-Mavericks
    Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu.  Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order.  If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar.  Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process.  See if that helps.  Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
    Mavericks and later
    Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder.  Select All Processes from the View menu.  Click on the CPU tab in the toolbar.
    Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file.

  • Clean Installation Of FCE 3.5 UPGRADE On Core Duo iMac?

    In a previous post Scott told me that when I get a new Core Duo iMac I will be able to install the UPGRADE version of FCE 3.5 straight away without needing to install the old FCE 3 first. (I will need of course to use my FCE3 serial number).
    I have just contacted the UK Apple Store and was told that I would probably need to install FCE3 first! However, when I challenged him the rep wasn't too certain!
    Does anyone definitely know whether I can just go ahead and install from the UPGRADE DVDs without needing my original FCE3 DVDs - apart from the serial number?
    (Apologies to Scott for harbouring doubts but my middle name should have been Thomas!)

  • What do I need for a clean installation

    Recently I bought the T61p Thinkpad along with the preinstalled Vista Ultimate. I'm most satisfied about the system and its performance. However due to heavy(read crappy) preinstalled software the performance is wors than my other almost 8 years old laptop. Therefor I want to do a clean installation of the system software. My question is, what do I need when it comes to my OS when I decide to choose one partition and do a full format of my hd. I have read several online tutorials on this issue but there's no info on what you need for this other than "a Vista CD" Does this mean I have to buy a new 'retail Vista Windows' or an 'OEM Vista Windows'(from Lenovo or any other shop?) or can I use the discs that came with the system listed beneath? And do I need to make a copy of all preinstalled progams and drivers or are they on the 8 discs?
    What do I have already: Along with the Thinkpad there came 8 discs:
    - 'Rescue and Recovery CD'
    - 'Supplemental Product Recovery CD for type 6480,.....,.....etc.'
    - '6x 'Product Recovery CD for ThinkPad T61,R61 Type 6480,.....,......etc'
    Furthermore I've read something on this forum about the Intel turbomem and its NV cache??? Is this something to take in consideration when doing a clean install?
    Thanks in advance!
    Che

    Hi, I post this in the other message and it may help you. Here is the steps for clean install for T61p (without Turbo memory):
    1. Install you own Vista (you don't need to backup the original, Lenovo Thinkpad has the backup)
    2. Install your firewall if you have one;
    3. Plug in internet cable and download "automatic system update from Lenovo- system update
        3.13" (here is the link: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/TVSU-UPDATE.html#hp) and    install it. (The system update software can download all the drivers for you)
    4. Before run the System update, adjust internet setting (internet option-->connection-->Lan setup-->disable automatic search (the first one)), otherwise the software'll be interrupted in the middle.
    5. Run system update and download the drivers and softwares you need.
    6. Download and install Video card driver: Either FM570 from Lenovo (for 3D work) or 8600GT(for gaming).  (I just installed FM570 from Lenovo website cause I am using it for CAD as well)
    Then........................
    Tips for speed up the Vista (dramaticly~~!):
    Control Panel-->System-->Advance system setup-->Advance-->Performence
    -->>Advance-->virtual memory (change)-->Choose no page files
    The reason for this is that HD almost does the most hard work in the latop and virtual memory will increase the most work load for it. Since we have 4GB ram, we don't need virtual memory and relase HD's load.
