Clean reinstall of Windows 8 on Envy dv6-7210us

Hi,
I just purchased a new HP Envy dv6-7210us laptop and I want to delete all of the current partition and reinstall a clean version of Windows 8 without all of the bloatware.  I have no need for the recovery partition since I use imaging software to back up my systems.  I've tried using the minimal recovery option from the HP recovery program, but it still installs all of the bloatware.  I even ordered the recovery DVD's (3 of them) which also reinstall all of the bloat.
I understand that the Windows 8 key is stored in the bios, but how do I get to it or will it automatically be inserted in a clean install.  Or if possible, can I extract the Windows 8 installation files from the HP recovery DVD's?
Thanks

A minimal install should have been just that, a minimal install.  It's strange that it was identical to a standard recovery.
I have performed a minimal recovery on my Windows 7 notebook and it appeared to be the same install from a retail copy of Windows 7 requiring me to fetch some new drivers as well.  Perhaps this has changed for Windows 8.
You can try some of the retrieval methods linked to in this post.  I have used Magical Jelly Bean to retrieve the product key in Windows 7.  I tested the program in Windows 8 and was able to pull the product key on a test system.  It appeared to be the correct key for that particular notebook.

    Hello 2HPuser
The IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio Driver Version 6.10.6425.0 is the most current version for your system. I am providing you with a link to the HP ENVY dv6-7210us Notebook PC Drivers so you can check back from time to time and confirm which drivers are the most current. All you need to do is go to the link and choose your operating system from the drop down box and click "Next". You will be able to scroll down the page and review your drivers.
I hope this answers your question. I would like to thank you for posting your question on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

You will have to reinstall them properly. if you do not have any backed up installers e.g. from the trials, then yes, AAM wil ldownload them again.

  • Recovery manager won't start for clean reinstall of Windows 7

I have an HP Pavilion Elite HPE-110f that is 4 years old.  Everything was fine until a couple of weeks ago started getting RAID messages on startup and other little qwerky things.  Then last week the dreaded BSOD showed up.  I shut down the computer and tried to restart, but got error messages that the computer couldn't start.  I then tried everything I could think of - startup repair, tried to boot in safe mode, recovery from partitioned drive, system restore - nothing worked.  I have the recovery media from HP but was saving that as my final option.  I tried to do a clean reinstall today from the discs, but now the recovery manager won't even come up.  Can somebody PLEASE help me get my OS back?

No, it wasn't an error message.  It was just notifications about different things being accessed on port1.  I just assumed it was startup items loading, but I had never gotten notifications about them before.  I just tried again to reinstall from recovery discs.  Pressed esc and got the boot menu, selected the dvd drive and you can hear it running, then it slows down to nothing and I get no recovery manager opening.  I turned off the computer again and pressed f9 when I turned it on.  Diagnostic show processor and memory are fine, but I get an error code of "BIOHD-8" on the hard drive.  Any suggestions?

  • Battery/charger ENVY dv6 7210us

I have an HP ENVY dv6 notebook PC, model 7210us, serial number: (Personal information removed), product number: C2M11UA#ABA
BIOS: F.25, Processor AMD-A8-4500M APU. This notebook is about 2 years old.
The problem is with the battery charging. Specifically, when plugged into the A/C the indicator states: "0%, Plugged In, Charging".  However, the battery is not charging. This problem started about a month ago. And it was around the time that I upgraded to Windows 8.1.
Thinking it was either the power cord or battery, I purchased a new battery and changed out the A/C power supply & cords.
First, the A/C supply change did not solve the problem, still 0%, Pluggd In, Charging.
Second, I replaced the battery with a new one. Initially the tray indicator stated 50%, Plugged In, Charging. But again, the battery was not being charged. It would remain at 50% until unplugged and then the battery would take over and begin draining. This continued until the new battery registered 0%, Plugged In, Charging.
Thinking it may be a driver issue:
Third, I followed youtube example where I uninstalled both battery and charger drivers located in Device Manager, powering down, reinstalling the battery and A/C then restarting the PC. The devices would reload on boot up. What i noticed was that the indicator, in the tray, would begin 'tanking' up, graphically showing that the battery symbol was 'filling'. It would do this for about 10 seconds, then stop, displaying an empty battery. Still the message 0%, Plugged In, Charging.
Fourth, I upgraded the BIOS to F.25. I used the HP Support Assistant to identify and install the upgrade. It was successful. I then tried the Third option again, with the same results, 0%, Plugged In, Charging.
Fifth, While in the HP Support Assistant, I ran the Battery Check tool and both batteries and both are O.K. per the HP Tool.
Sixth, I've followed HP Support note to hard reset, by removing the battery and A/C, holding the power button for 30 seconds and powering up, same problem.
The indicator light, located adjacent to the A/C plug into the computer, is 'orange' in color, indicating that it is charging. but again, 0%, Plugged In, Charging.  I've left the notebook plugged in for days, same problem. Also, I've left the notebook UN-plugged for days, same problem.
As I mentioned above, this problem started 'around' the time when I upgraded to Windows 8.1. Once upgraded, I immediately had issues with the built in WiFi not working. It was as if the notebook could not recognise the built in hardware.  I ended up using an external USB WiFi. Once installed, the internal WiFi began operating properly. The WiFi problem took my attention, so I cant be sure that the battery/charging problem happened at the same time; but I'm pretty certain it did, as it took a while for the battery to discharge as I keep it plugged into A/C when in the office.
I contacted HP support; but unfortunatly my notebook is out of warranty and HP requires payment for phone service. I did speak to both Hardware and Software specialists, but they were of little help. They did say that the problem was either soft or hardware and that they could determine software and fix that over the phone.
I am told that the charging system is seperate from the operating system. That there is a dedicated circuit on the System Board that could be the culprit. I'm not certain that's accurate.  I was hoping that the upgrade to 8.1 caused a software problem.
Can anyone give advice or help in identifing where the problem is? Or if this is a known problem?
I've tried to list as much detail as possible. Thank you in advance for your help.
    Sincerely,
    /Bill

    Hi @eusbs ,
    Welcome to the HP forum!
This is a wonderful place to find information and get input on your issues!
I grasp that after updating to Windows 8.1 you are experiencing a battery issue.  Thinking it could be the battery or power cord you replaced both the the issue remains.
You have tried troubleshooting the issue  to no avail.
You are correct there is a dedicated circuit on the motherboard that could be the issue.
I know you ran the HP Support Assistant to get the HP updates, but have you done all your Windows updates?
I  realize you have tested the batteries but did you try to calibrate them?
Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 8)
You could try a Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8).
I believe this will take you back to Windows 8  your original OS.  If you are again able to charge the battery, then it is not hardware.
If you are still unable to charge the battery after the refresh it is most likely the motherboard.
If it again charges, reinstall the Windows 8.1 update and if the issue remains please contactMicrosoft  support for assistance as it would seem to be  the update causing the problem.

  • Clean Reinstall of Windows 8 from Lenovo Recovery Disk Set Fails

Hello everyone, I am at a loss here. I have Lenovo H520s SFF Desktop and the hard drive failed, under warranty.  Lenovo sent a service tech to my home to replace Hard Drive and Reinstall Windows 8. The service tech started the reinstallation and left, told me to follow the prompts on the screen when prompted.  Well the installation failed.  I called Lenovo, they sent the same tech again and this time he replaced the motherboard too... During the days for this to occur, Lenovo sent me 3 recovery disk sets for installation of Windows 8.  - The install starts, and goes through but does not ever finish. I have tried all 3 recover disks sets and get the same problem. After calling Lenovo again, I was told it was a setting in the BIOS that needed to be changed, but the technician and the supervisor I spoke with could not advise me which settings to change because they were not reading the same BIOS I was when they were trying to walk me through it.  All I want is to reinstall Windows 8 on my Lenovo.  I have sent requests for BIOS updates to make installation easier, but honestly, they had to get it installed on the original hard drive in the first place, how is this so difficult now to reinstall Windows 8 on a clean hard drive.  Any advice will help....

    hi tangatangs,
    Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.
From your observation, it looks like there's a problem with the recovery discs. To check, we're there any error messages when the recovery process failed (eg. Recovery process fails at disc #3 with an error preMOPS fail)?
    Things that you can try:
1, Download the Windows 8 Enterprise ISO 90 day trial (you will need a microsoft account to get the download link and trial key).
    2. Follow this guide on how to create a bootable Windows 8 installer (either via a disc or USB)
    3. Boot into the BIOS by pressing F1 and set the following settings (if applicable):
    Boot/Startup Tab:
    UEFI = Disabled
    UEFI Boot = Legacy First
    CSM = Enabled
    Security Tab
    Secure Boot = Disabled
    Exit Tab
OS Optimized Defaults = Other OS / Disabled
When done, insert the bootable Windows 8 installer that you have created on Step 2 and press F10 to save and exit. When the machine reboots, press F12 and select the appropriate device for the Windows 8 instaler (either via DVD or USB).
If the Windows 8 Enteprise (90 day trial) installs properly then you may need to contact lenovo one more time on how to go about getting the unit serviced (you most likely need to send the unit to the repair center for re-imaging as another copy of a recovery disc set may produce the same installation problem).
    EDIT:
I've sent you a PM regarding information on your machine. Please check it out.
Let me know how it goes.
    Regards

  • HP Elitebook 2740p Clean Reinstall Problems Windows 7 Pro 64bit

upon trying to install Windows 10 to my elitebook it became unbootable and pretty much a brick. So having installation media onhand was no rpoblem since i have lots of that. My problem is such that upon getting to the partion menu where you choose the system partition that the OS will reside on Windows says it cannot see a valid system partion even when its pre-created. I have tried numerous methods to no avail.I have tried disableing uefi, achi to ide and to raid, i have tried formatting again and again and i cant seem to figure out why it cannot see the system partition.  My best guess is:  i need a achi driver that is not a .exethat can be preloaded into windows to allow it to install. Its either that or this bios i am missing something that needs to be disabled.  Im not a rookie at doing this sort of thing but this is such a simple thing and im irritated that itsnot something i can solve without help. Please anyone IDEAS???

  • Envy Dv6-7210us Windows 8 caps lock blinking continuously

    Hi,
I noticed that there was a password set on my BIOS and I read in the forums that I could reset that by taking out the CMOS battery. Well I did such and while I was doing that I decided to clean my keyboard and fan unit, so I undid the screws for the keyboard and took the keyboard off. Now, after putting everything back together, my laptop will not turn on to the BIOS and thr caps lock light is flashing continuously and thr wi-fi amber light is on. I know the continuously single flash usually means there is a problem with the CPU, but I am wondering how this could have happened. I have done everything from the forums such as reseating the memory modules, trying to restore the BIOS, letting it sit overnight while running, power resetting, and taking out the CMOS battery again. Is there any other steps that I could be missing?

    Hi,
This is the Maintenance and Service Guide for your Notebook: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03591281.pdf
Can you please go through the replacement procedures of the components that you already replaced and confirm whether you had done everything accordingly? We will have to make sure that we are not missing on anything that is not letting the Notebook boot properly now. Please take utmost attention when you check the procedure for the procesor. If we miss on a small thing, it could be a problem.

  • How to reinstall my iTunes 10 music after doing system reinstall on Window 7 64 bit and then downloading iTunes 11.

What is the best way to reintroduce the backed up iTunes folder that contains my music collected in iTunes 10 after doing a clean reinstall of Windows 7 and thereafter installing iTunes 11. Howl will iTunes 11 recognize my songs collected in iTunes 10? Do I simply copy then paste all the iTunes music folder content into the new iTunes 11 music folder? I thank you for your response.

I spent some time on the phone this morning with Apple. Here's a link they sent me: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
It's more than just uninstalling Itunes; there are 5 other apps that have to be uninstalled and in specific order. This particular Knowledge Base article applies to Windows Vista or Windows 7. For other Windows versions you'd have to look up the article for Windows XP.
    Hope this helps.

  • Resored envy dv6 notebook and windows 8 won't load i dont have the discs

I bought an HP envy dv6 notebook used with Windows 8.  The person I bought it from did not remove her password or fingerprint scan, I was unable to reach them (i bought it out of state).  I did some research and found the best thing to do was a complete system restore - which i followed the directions and did.  I do not have the original driver disc.
I am now in a contant loop where it comes up with the first password which I successfully changed but would like to remove.  When it starts to load the administrator it goes into a constant loop of Windows did not load properly. Restart the computer.  And I fo around and around,  I have tried everything I have found on here and many other sires and still I am unable to get it to work.
I have a Windows 7 disc but I am afraid to even try it since I was told that the reset to factory settings would work and it doesn't I do not want to do anymore damage.

  • WIndows 10 upgrade stops after final upgrade circle at 0% on envy dv6 7245us

The Windows 10 upgrade downloads successfully, goes through various gyrations, then displays the final big upgrade circle at 0% and aborts, then rolls back to Windows 8.1. I have tried all sorts of things from the various forums, including Microsoft's with no luck. Has anyone successfully upgraded the HP Envy dv6 7245us (with AMD A10 processor) model to Windows 10? Or had similar problems? Thanks, noid63

Hello , I understand that you are wondering what the effect of your recovery media will have on your Windows 10 operating system, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter! Since the recovery media you created is designed for Windows 8.1, as well as the Recovery Parition, a new system recovery in the future will the operating system back to Windows 8.1. Once recovered, you will need to re-install Windows 10.  As a recommendation, I would suggest holding off on a Windows 10 update since there are no supported drivers available for your system in Windows 10 at present. This should help to avoid any driver conflicts you may encounter upon upgrading. I hope this helps! Best Regards

  • Clean reinstall Windows 8.1 on Thinkpad Yoga

    Hello,
I have been having a large amount of trouble with my Thinkpad Yoga in that I have not been able to access the majority of the applications for a while.  I have tried solving the problem, however after a number of failed attempts, I decided I would rather get rid of the bloatware anyway and do a clean re-install.
However, I am unable to perform a clean reinstall as no media came with my purchase.  Where can I get a copy of windows 8.1 to perform a clean reinstall?

I would think the described methodology to create recovery media and reload a Lenovo Think system with Microsoft Windows 8 preload is clear enough?

  • How save factory software on T400 and reinstall after clean install of Windows 7

    Hi
I have a Thinkpad T400  2764-CTO Running Vista Business 32-bit  and want to do a clean install to Windows 7 Pro.
Sounds like I can get all the drivers via System Update 4.0, but I'm concerned about how to save/re-install some of the software that came on the machine.
In particular, Intervideo WinDVD and Roxio Media Import. If I go to my Programs folder and copy the folders for Roxio and InterVideo onto a flash drive, and then re-copy into the Programs folder on the C drive after a clean install, does that work?
I've never used Rescue and Recovery on the laptop, and am not sure how it works. Any advice is appreciated.
I'm not sure I even know all the stuff that exists from the factory. Anything else I should be concerned about? Thanks! - Kathleen

Please review the HP software and driver download page for drivers/software that are compatible with Windows 7. Also note that there is a BIOS update for Windows Vista that improves the system's ability to function with WIndows 7. Also read "Alerts" and other information regarding this product and Windows 7.
