Clean the junk out of your MAC

I was wondering about all the junk and viruses that could be "in" my computer. I've seen several sites to clean it, but I'm not sure I trust them. Des apple have a specific one or does anyone recommend any sites to "clean my Mac"?

Ok I am new to these forums but Mac Viruses are very rare but they are out there. I do run an antivirus and a cleaner just encase. I do a lot of online gaming so it helps in the performace of my computer and I feel a little more secure with having it on there, it may just be a personal preference. It helps a lot just clearing your history and clearing your cache every now and then.  Clearing your cache which can be done in your browser under prefrences, advanced, network, cached web content, and then i just use clear now.  Clearing your history is similar under your browser prefrences, privacy, history, should say "you may want to clear your recent history" or "remove individual cookies". I don't like to do individual cookies but i have, normally I just use "clear your recent history." Just know that it will also get rid of your logins so make sure you got your login information for the sites you go to that you need to log in. As far as an antivirus and/or cleaner, if you have friends or co-workers that use a Mac I would ask them what they reconmend for an antivirus and a cleaner. I know of several out there and can't say one is better than the other. I can only go by reputation that I hear about and my own personal experience which I have been fairly statisfied with the ones I use. I would suggest that if you have any friends or co-workers that use a Mac ask them their personal experience in regards to the ones you are considering and go from there. In the end if you have done your homework on the program you are considering, think it will meet your needs, and you have spoken with people you know; chances are you will be satisfied with it. Most companies will offer a trial version, you might consider giving that a try (after doing your home work on it) and if you don't like it - uninstall it and try something else. Just my thoughts... hope it helps.

  • Effective way to clean the dust out of your Macbook Pro?

Lately the fan on my Macbook Pro has been running a lot much more often & it has been making a lot more noise; mainly because it is clogged with a lot of dust.
Is there an effective way to cleaning it out? If so, how? Be detailed as possible.

I generally don't recommend those who haven't done it before to remove the bottom cover and administer self-repair.
Qtips and tiny paintbrushes is what we used at the laptop repair place to remove the caked on junk on the fan blades.
If a fan was removed by a authorized repairman to be cleaned, compressed air is used then Qtips with isoproply is used for a complete cleaning.
Its important to have your Apple store remove the caked on gunk on the blades causes stress to the fan hub and bearings which rapidly leads to the destruction of the fan, and if dead would cause your laptop to overheat.  A leads to B leads to C.

Is there any app or something, that can do that, you can stream any sound coming out of your mac to your airport express?

Yes, he would have to have jailbroken your phone to install malware. If you see an app called "Cydia", that would indicate conclusively that it was jailbroken. I would recommend restoring the phone as new using iTunes. It is your best shot at removing a jailbreak.
You should also change your network password, your email password and your FB password as well as passwords to anything else you've used from the phone. Put a lock code on the phone.
Your best defense against this sort of thing is to NOT give your phone to people you don't trust.

The system doesn’t recognize or capitalize the word (I) or the first word of every sentence. Another really annoying thing about the integrated mail on your Mac computers is the fact that the system learns the word as you type it more and more instead of highlighting it as incorrectly is this is a word that’s being misspelled. Can Apple fix this bug to make it user friendly as if you were using Office or a Word Document?

    You hit the target CT.
It’s only fair that if Apple is going to integrate Mail into Mac PCs, it would be nice if the system does it for you like Office or perhaps Outlook. I just don’t to use Outlook although I have it installed and ready to use, but instead use Mail which comes with Mac OS already.
I hope to make some sense here.

  • What's the best way to connect the audio out of my Mac to my stereo receiver?

I want to listen to my mp3 collection through my home theatre stero receiver.
I have 2 audio interfaces that I connect to my mac through USB and Firewire: Digi Design Mbox mini and Maudio ProFire 610.
I've tried going from a headphone 1/8'' connector from the headphone out of my mac to rca connected to the aux (or whatever) of my stereo.
I've tried using a 1/4'' adapter on the 1/8'' to go from my mbox mini's headphone output to the rca aux on my stereo.
The problem is I'm hearing distortions that sound like clipping, or static, crunchiness on certain frequencies in a lot of my mp3's that shouldn't be there.
I listen to lots of music, and a lot of it uses distortion, like shoegaze, drone etc but I know what I'm hearing is unnatural.
I even hear these flaws when I listen to headphones through the headphone out of my mbox.
Page 2 on this instruction manual says I should be able to go from the monitor outs to my stereo. The monitor outs are 1/4 inch out so I figured I would need a 1/4 inch to rca cable.
I got this one from monster thinking it should work. No dice.
So my question is, what is the best way to connect my mac to my stereo? I need to avoid these distortions and flaws in the audio i'm hearing or I will go nuts.
Why might I be getting these clipping distoritons?
    any advice would be fantastic

It depends on how close the receiver is to the iMac. If it's just a few feet away you need at cable like:
    http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-THINTOSMIN6-Toslink-Digital-Optical/dp/B00016 W6Y6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1316096392&sr=8-2
However if the receiver is across the room or the house you would be best to enable Air Play, this enables you to wirelessly connect the receiver to the iMac. You will need the above cable and an Airport Express. If you are not familiar with Air Play navigate to:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/airplay/
I have been using it for quite some time and find it great. If you are not familiar with the Airport Express here is the link to it:
    http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/
You can even find refurbished ones on Apples website for about $79.

The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
Senuti Mac Only (Currently only the beta version is iPod Touch & iPhone compatible)
    PodView Mac Only
    PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
TuneAid Mac only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac & Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
iPod Music Liberator Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    Floola Mac & Windows
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide

I'm investigating whether I can take on 'Lion' when it's released. The information states that your mac needs 'Intel Core 2 Duo'. Is this the same as '2 GHz Intel Core Duo' which is what it actually states my mac has when I click 'About This Mac'?

I could not agree more! My MBP 2007 Intel Core Duo has had its logic board replaced not to long ago (DVI port died). The original hard drive is running great and I am running Snow Leopard wonderfully.
I was amped during the keynote and am really looking forward to Lion. I know the community is working hard to uncover a workaround because at present time, the solution (by new!) is not a worthy one. Especially when there is literally, nothing wrong with my existing machine.
Apple, please ensure Lion will be available for Intel Core Duo machines, we are not that old! The closed architecture approach produces quality hardware. 4 years is a toddler perhaps teenager when it comes to apple hardware and technology. I predict I have at least 3-4 more years left in my current MBP 2007 machine.
    Much Love, Apple!

  • Is there any other way to find out if your Mac has a virus?

I think antivirus software is the only thing that can tell if you've got trojans and harmful files on your computer, and lists them down. But I want to find out if my Mac has viruses without downloading AV software.

There's no one single method that can be used, as different malware can install in different places.  You have to know what you're looking for.  The folks who make AV software know what they're looking for, so that's the best option.
However, why do you have this concern?  Do you have a reason to believe your Mac is infected?  If so, what is it?  If not, you can probably relax (though that's far from a guarantee).

  • Cleaning the inside of my Power Mac G4

HI. I am just wondering what is the way to clean the inside of my G4. Like is it ok to clean it with for example a microfiber cloth. Something that is not to expensive and easy to find

Because of the static buildup and danger of frying your electronics if you get a spark it is recommended you not use a vacuum cleaner.
It is frequently recommended you buy a can of compressed air specifically intended for cleaning electronics and use that to blast out dust. Do this outdoors otherwise you will be using that vacuum cleaner after all to clean your house. I would not hold it too close to the electronics, or for too long, nor on warm electronics. The air is quite cold as it comes out of the can and you don't want to crack something with sudden or excessive cooling.
I'd be worried about a synthetic fabric microfiber cloth also developing static buildup. In the past I have used a medium stiff natural fiber paintbrush to physically dislodge stubborn deposits.

  • I can't get the DVD out of my mac

I'm trying to get the DVD out of the machine . I tried to restart the machine and hold down the mouse, but that still does not work. Does anyone know how to solve this?
    Thank you

    Force eject a stuck cd/dvd
First try the normal methods to remove the disc. Drag its icon to the Trash can in the Dock or select 'Eject' from the File menu.
If you are running a virtual machine, e.g. VMFusion, ensure that the CD is disconnected from the virtual machine. This will sometimes allow the CD to now show up in Mac OS X.
Shut down the computer and start up whilst holding down the mouse button. This may take some time, but keep your finger on the mouse button right up until the disc comes out or the log-in screen has appeared.
If you have Toast Titanium installed on your computer, choose EJECT DISC from the menubar.
Sometimes you can successfully use the eject disc button in iTunes even if the disc is not visible to the Finder
Open Disc utility and choose the disc you wish to eject in the left-hand pane, then click on the Eject button.
Some Macintoshes have a paperclip hole that you can insert a straightened paperclip into, manually triggering the eject mechanism.
Open Terminal and type "drutil tray eject" to eject the disc/tray, and "drutil tray close" to close the tray.
If your computer has an eject button on the keyboard, restart the computer holding down the Option key. When the startup disk selection screen appears, let go of the option key and press the keyboard's eject button.

  • How can you import pictures from the iphoto app to your mac book pro into iphoto on a mac book pro using mavericks?

I've tried to look this up on the app, and it tells me to use the iTunes file sharing and I can see anything with this trying to use both. I'm trying to keep my pictures in chronological order. Does in know how I can use this? Any help I would greatly appreciate. Thank you!

OK. This is two separate issues. To import pictures on your iPhone into your MBP, you can use iPhoto or the Image Capture app (in the Applications folder).
To use iPhoto, connect your iPhone to your Mac with its USB cable & launch iPhoto. Your iPhone will be listed it in the "Devices" panel on the left. Choose it & you will get a window where you can import all or selected photos as either "split events" or as a single event. If you need help with this, try opening iPhoto's built-in help & selecting the "Import Photos" item. That will open the Import photos from iPhone or other mobile phone help topic. Expand the Import photos from iPhone section & study it. It should answer all your questions about this better than I can!
To use the Image Capture app, you connect the iPhone & select it just like above. The app has several options for importing images, but what you may find useful if you do not want to import directly into iPhoto is that you can just drag any of the iPhone's displayed items onto the desktop or into a folder like you would any other file & they will be copied to that location.
As for organization of items in iPhoto, there are four ways they can be grouped for display (by event, by photo, by face, & by place). All except by faces offers a "By date" sort choice in the iPhoto View > Sort Photos menu item.
