Hi. What does (mean) the option "Clean Up" or "Clean Up Selection" in the Finder's View Menu?
Thank you!

  • Using Sears Optical Lens Cleaner to clean my MacBook's screen

Is it alright to be using Sears Optical Lens Cleaner to clean my MacBook's screen? I spray it on a micro-fiber cloth first, of course.

Hi jsnlvy, welcome to macbook forum.
well,.. apple recommend to use slightly water damped micro fiber soft cloth to clean the screen.
I sometimes sprayed lightly water based glass cleaner to that dampen fabric to get rid of stubborn smudge, and after that I use dry cotton ball in circular stroke motion to get rid the streak mark.
I am afraid that the Optical lens solvent is to strong for your screen and might damage your screen. But if you want to try it, dampen the cloth with water first as I did and applied at a small area and check it is safe.
    Good Luck.

  • MX922 could not print color even after clean/deep clean many times

My MX922 did print about 600 color pages and could not print very clear. Then I did a few time of clean/deep clean from maintenance. The test pattern is ok for PGBK. However, there is no color (or a little color once a while). All the colors ink could be detected. Is there anything that I could do now? Or the color printhead is bad? If this is the case, could you I chang that?
    Thanks,
    TJ

    Hi tjs,
Since the cleanings did not improve the print quailty, please perform an automatic and manual print head alignment to see if this will help.  To do this, please follow the steps located at the link below:
    Print Head Alignment
If you still experience difficulty after performing the alignments, the printer may require servicing; please call or email us at one of the methods on the Contact Us page to obtain your servicing options.

  • Cleaning cache, Cleaning cache

How do I clean my cache ... computer really sluggest!!!  Help!

Onyx or any "cache cleaner" is not the way to improve or cure why it runs slow and sluggish.

  • Clean up, clean up, everybody everywhere!

Hey all, Suilenroc here. I'm a relatively new user of arch linux, and was wondering how if someone could help me with cleaning up my system. I remember that, In Ubuntu, there were a few scripts that would uninstall unneeded packages and prereqs, and other things of that nature. Also, I somehow managed to isntall a few KDE apps on my gnome system, I know not how. Konquerer and Knetworking are there. does anyone know how to delete those?
    Thanks!

Remove unneeded dependencies: pacman -Rs $(pacman -Qtdq)
Remove package and its unneeded dependencies: pacman -Rs
I recommend aliasing the former to something (I have it set to 'pacmanro'). Alias sudo to 'sudo ' first to be able to 'sudo pacmanro'.
'pacman -Qdt' will list all packages that were installed because they were needed by packages you specifically asked to be installed, but are no longer needed by any packages. If you definitely use one of the packages it lists (be sure! It's usually correct), either edit the pacman db to say it is explicitly installed and not a dependency (should be simple, but I don't know how OTOH), or re-install with 'pacman -S'.
On a related note, 'pacman -S --asdeps' will install a package and list it as a dependency. Remember, if you don't install a package that requires the one you just named a dependency, one of the commands that lists or removes unneeded dependencies will list/remove it.
    Need anything else?

  • Cleaning iMac cleaning cloth

    Good morning,
Does anyone know how to appropriately clean the cloth that comes with the iMac? It's become fairly dusty and thus ineffective at cleaning the iMac screen.
Is it safe to put in the wash or should I just use soapy water? Any help would be......helpful.
    Thanks!
    Nathan

I use dish washing liquid, just a drop, and scrub the cloth between my hands. Rinse well. Stretch it out and let it dry.

  • Preference Files, etc. Cleaner--Spring Cleaning?

Just got a new Mac Pro. Used Migration Assistant to bring over apps., etc. It surprised me in that it brought over preference files, and probably orphaned files. I'm wondering what application would do a good job, or the best job, in finding and removing files that I no longer need. Would it be Mac Cleaner, or Spring Cleaning, or what?

What about removing all the Preference files, and then letting each app create a new Preference file as it is started?

  • Nilfs-clean: No cleaner found on /dev/sda1.

I'm using nilfs2 for my root file system. It seems as if mount.nilfs2 manages to start a cleanerd, because "ps" shows this:
    [root@robot1 /]# ps alx | grep ni[l]
    1 0 222 2 20 0 0 0 nilfs_ S ? 0:03 [segctord]
    4 0 223 1 20 0 14692 864 wq_sle Ss ? 0:00 /sbin/nilfs_cleanerd -n /dev/sda1 /
    [root@robot1 /]# nilfs-clean /dev/sda1
    No cleaner found on /dev/sda1.
    [root@robot1 /]#
However, as you can see, trying to clean the /dev/sda1 volume doesn't work.
If, however, I manually start nilfs_cleanerd, then I can clean the volume:
    [root@robot1 /]# /sbin/nilfs_cleanerd
    [root@robot1 /]# nilfs-clean /dev/sda1
    [root@robot1 /]#
I'd like to understand why the nilfs-clean utility doesn't think that the running, auto-launched nilfs_cleanerd is suitable for cleaning the device.
I have another post in the server config forum about systemctl for starting a nilfs_cleanerd; that's not what this question is about. This question is specifically: Why doesn't nilfs-clean find the running, seemingly auto-started, nilfs_cleanerd instance?

Nobody knows about nilfs2 or how to diagnose this problem?

  • How to retrieve a long and precious history I lost by running cc cleaner to clean up my register?

The cleanup did not affect my bookmarks, they are all there. History however seems to be gone forever, a reference list that I took months to set up and that means an equally long setback to an editorial project. Weep, hair tearing, ashes all over my torn off clothes will not, apparently, restore that history. Booahhh! Tell me there is some home, please.

Don't try to open the file. Rename the places sqlite file in your current settings folder, then drop the old one in. I haven't done this, but here's how i would:
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Switch back to Firefox and Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''places.sqlite''' to something like places.0327
Copy the old places.sqlite into the folder.
Restart Firefox. Firefox should show your bookmarks and history from the date of the database you copied in.

  • How do I restore mail from Time Machine after a clean Yosemite install?

I've been having various performance issues with my iMac recently (wifi keeps dropping off, scan functionality on my multifunction printer stopped working, whole system periodically hangs) so decided to do a clean install of Yosemite. I also have a MacBook Air, also running Yosemite, and on which I have no issues with the wifi, printer or system performance.
Before doing the clean install, I made sure I had a current Time Machine backup. The process appears to have worked so far, but I have run into an issue restoring my mail. I think it best if I describe how I have restored my documents and then I can show at what point I run into a problem.
To restore documents, I opened Time Machine, used the keyboard shortcut command-shift-C to show the backups prior to the clean install, and then selected the documents I wanted to restore. This was simple and worked perfectly.
To restore my mail, I opened Mail, selected 'Enter Time Machine' from the shortcut menu at the top of the screen and then used the keyboard shortcut command-shift-C to show the backups prior to the clean install. This is where I got stuck as command-shift-C is a default shortcut in Mail that shows the colours dialog box. Hence I have been unable to view the correct backup. The backup I want is listed on the right hand side of the screen in Time Machine, but I can't work out how to select it.
I thought changing the shortcut in Mail might work, but I couldn't find a way to do that either since it is not listed in the Keyboard section of System Preferences.
    Any ideas gratefully received.

    Hey there,
It sounds like you're still having trouble exposing the proper library folder. You can use the following terminal command to do it globally (this will show all hidden files)
Open Terminal from your appliications folder and copy/paste this into it:
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE (press return)
**After that last line you'll need to restart the finder so use:
    killall Finder (press return)
Now if you enter Time Machine the correct Library should be visible. To re-hide your hidden files repeat the process above but replace TRUE with FALSE, then use the "killall Finder" again.
I agree with the commenters above, you should restore the Mail library to the desktop and then re-import it to Mail. This is how I was instructed to solve this problem by Mac help, who I chatted with online for quite a while before they figured it out.
    Hope this helps

  • Clean OS Install.. help?

I want to do a clean install of either WinXP or maybe even try out Vista on my S10.  I really don't care about the separate partitions and onekey, and would rather just reformat it into one.  But, I don't have an external optical drive and really don't want to buy one.  I have the OS's iso files that I got from my school's site to burn.  Can anyone tell me my options as to installing via a thumbdrive or sd card?  I'm not sure if the usb or card reader would work during the install, or even a cardreader in the usb port.  So do I pretty much have to install from an external drive?  Or if I can install via the thumbdrive or sd card, how do I go about setting up the install files on them?  If you can help me, thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

hi i never tried using this method but i found out a good method
Acquire an ultra-fast USB 2.0 flash drive
Incidentally, once you've got Windows Vista up and running, you may want to consider getting an ultra-fast SDFlash card, installing it into your laptop or desktop, and leaving it there as a ReadyBoost cache.  Why?  It can't hurt and they're so cheap that it's worth getting.   I personally got a SDFlash card for every one of my machines - the A-DATA 2GB Secure Digital Memory Card, 150X Turbo SD Card has a read speed of more than 22.5MB/s and a write speed of more than 15MB/s.
    Format the  Flash Drive
Run CMD.EXE and type the following.  Note: This set of commands assumes that the USB flash drive is addressed as "disk 1".  you should double check that by doing a list of the disks (type "list disk" ) before cleaning it.  If you have multiple hard drives, like an SDFlash drive or a Multibay drive, you could end up wiping your second drive using this command.
    diskpart
    select disk 1
    clean
    create partition primary
    select partition 1
    active
    format fs=fat32
    assign
    exit
Copy Windows Vista's DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive
Simply issue the following command to start copying all the content from the Windows Vista DVD to your newly formatted high speed flash drive.xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\
And that's it.  Boot up the machine, have it boot off the USB drive, and watch how fast the installation completes.  If you thought Windows Vista installed quickly before then let's see how you like it now.  The slowest part of the install will probably be the computer waiting for you to type in information in the setup fields, and even that can be automated using the Windows Automated Installation Kit.
but before you start doing this make sure u have back up of your files and documents!

  • Help with Clean Access Architecture

    Hello All,
I wanted to engage some of the NetPros out there about designing our Clean Access architecture. We purchased 4 3140s (2 x CAMs w/ FO, 2 x CASs w/ FO). The goal is to use Clean Access to validate select areas of our head quarters, along with validate users in a remote location.
The HQ part of the design I can understand without issue. It's when we begin to deal with the remote office that I become uncertain about the design. The remote office is MPLS connected to HQ (L3 multi-hop). We want users in the remote office to also be L2 authenticate to the Clean Access cluster at HQ. Across MPLS this does not appear to be straightforward. We'd like to do a L2 deployment, but from what I've read this will require using L2TPv3 at the remote office to "tunnel" the VLANs from HQ to remote and vice-versa. My fear is that now the default gateway for the remote clients is the HQ Clean Access cluster. Therefore... all traffic will be "switched" across their WAN link. This becomes and issue as the remote office has local Windows domain controllers for faster file access on another VLAN... and in this scenario it sounds like the workstations would have to travel across the L2TPv3 tunnel to HQ to just have to go back across the tunnel to the remote office for file access. Sounds slow!
Does anyone have recommendations as to how to design this centralized, L2, OOB architecture. In my mind I would want the clients attempting authentication to the switch... switch forward to the CAS... CAS validates posture and passes down necessary VLAN to switch. All VLAN'ing and switching is kept remote. We operate all 3750 switches... so our infrastructure can work with NAC. Sorry for the long post, just wanted to try to explain the requirements. Thanks for the help.
    -Mike
    http://cs-mars.blogspot.com

    Hi Mike -
Very good questions. You definitely do not need the L2TPv3 across the WAN to control the ports at the remote site.
    The CASs can be deployed L2 In-Band (IB), L3 In-Band (IB), L2 Out-of-Band (OOB) or L3 Out-of-Band (OOB).
L3 OOB can be used to control the switches at the remote sites. A 2nd vlan is required for the remote site to serve as the authentication vlan. All ports start off on this Auth Vlan when a user plugs in.
The user receives an IP Address on this Auth Vlan and the local L3 device is the GWY. The L3 device should have ACLs to protect the rest of the network from this Auth Vlan. The only permit entries in the ACL should let the users get to CAS and the remediation servers. Using a network like 192.168.x.x and varying the 3rd octet on a per-site basis simplifies the ACLs if you are using the 10.x.x.x as your internal addressing. The ACLs should be places on all the MPLS routers to protect the production network from the Auth network.
Once the user proves trustworthy, the Clean Access changes the vlan on the switch to the production/normal vlan and the user has complete access as before.
CASs can be either one of the 4 roles (L2 IB, L3 IB, L2 OOB, L3 OOB) when they are added to the CAM.
If you plan to use L2 OOB for your HQ and L3 OOB for the remotes, you may need to add 1 more CAS pair to your architecture.
We have some great diagrams that the Clean Access product team have put together that will illustrate this architecture to you.
Your local SE / CSE should be able to provide this to you.
Let us know if you have any follow up questions.
    Hope this helps.

  • Clean install using a new startup disc

I'd like to do a clean install of SL on my Mac Pro. What I'd like to do is install it on a second empty internal drive while keeping the original boot drive (10.5) intact. This way I can continue to use the original boot drive, while I am rebuilding the new boot drive. As it is, I have the system user data (email & library) on one disc, and I have all my documents on 2 separate drives. And then I have the 4th empty drive I'd like to do the clean install. So my questions:
Will things get wacky switching between the 2 boot drives?
How do I move over my user files (email, keychain, a few preference files, bookmarks etc)? I don't really want to use the migration assistant to move everything over - this is where I brought over some existing corruptions from my last computer. I'd rather install things clean, and then just selectively bring over important user data.

    Hi funkie;
Much of the data gets upgraded with Snow Leopard such as the iPhoto database, so as you say things can get wacky switching back and forth between boot drives.
