Clean up cooling system - do it yourself or give it to service

Hi,
I'm a happy owner of X200 for a year. Recently the cooling fan started turning on more often - it's time to clean the cooling system. My question is - will I loose warranty if it do it myself ? (disassembly laptop, put new cooling paste, clean the dust) Maybe I should give it to service? Any people experienced in this topic?
Has anyone disassembled his X200 to do these things? Is it very complicated compared to other laptops?
Thank you for answers in advance,
Kind regards,
Lukasz

if you take out the heatsink/fan then there is a good chance that your warranty maybe voided. If cleaning the vane of the fans and wiping off any dusts don't work, then just send it in, and the depot will change a new fan/heatsink for you.

  • How to clean the whole cooling system of Qosmio X770-107

    Hi Guys,
is there any manual, how to clean the whole cooling system of an X770-107 Gaming Notebook??
I can try to clean the dust on the intake and outtake of the laptop, but whats in the middlepart of the cooling system??
    Any Ideas??

As Tonny already wrote all you can do is to use compressed air and try to clean t up.
For professional clean-up the whole notebook must be disassembled. After doing this there is full access to all cooling modules.
Of course this must be done by authorized personal only. Some kind of maintenance manual is not a public document. What you can do is to contact nearest Toshiba service and ask how much such professional clean-up costs.
By the way: this notebook cannot be so old so I dont think it is full of dust.

  • Cooling system

I have a Toshiba L755D - S5204. Today I turned it on and there was only a black screen. So I restarted it. After that I received a message that said "A problem with the cooling system has been detected" and to turn the computer off. I could hear the fans starting and stopping over and over. Also the screen was darkened. So can anyone tell me what I should do?

Hi! Please clean your lap top vents. You can Google how to do that.

  • Satellite U945-S4110 Cooling System FAILURE

I purchased 2 Satellite U945-S4110 on the same day 19 months ago...BOTH ultrabooks have now stopped working due to a cooling system issue.  I paid quite a bit of money for these ultrabooks BRAND NEW, now I'm screwed because they both went out at once.  I will NEVER buy another Toshiba product!  If only one would have went out that would have been understandable, but not BOTH at the same time!  It is apparent that this ultrabook has some serious issues if it only works for less than 2 years, then just stops working.

likely just dust/dirt in heatsink/fan.  local computer shop very easily clean it for you at some nominal cost or you could open it/them up and do it your self.  not a big deal

Are you still having the overheating pop-up? I have been receiving the same annoying error for the past 3 weeks (model L675 S7049). Seeing that I am vigilant about not blocking vents and have inspected and cleaned cooling fins and fan blades, I suspect other issues...heat sensor problem, etc. I did break down today and upgraded to BIOS vers 1.7, up from 1.3. There was a mention of a fan error under ver 1.4 don't know this in anyway is related, but worth a try.

  • A problem with your cooling system has been detected.

I just started getting an error message saying my cooling system is not working and I need to shut down my computer immediately.  I have a Toshiba Satellite S855-S5382 (part no. PSKFWU-002002)
This message just began showing up a day ago, the same day I upgraded from Windows 8 to the 8.1 update.  The laptop does get very hot fairly quickly.
Don't know if it's remotely related, but I also get an error when trying to open certain programs that the Msvcp90.dll file is Not Found.
I just got the laptop on May of 2013, and have had a few problems with it so far but this is the first with the cooling system.

Hi When's the last time you cleaned the air vents??
Do not down load any thing from this link, just read how to clean your vents.

Warning: a problem with the cooling system has been detected Toshiba
Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for servise.
I have Windows XP on it.
I opened the cooling fan and clean it. Off course, I found it rally dirty.

  • Qosmio G20 error message: problem with cooling system has been detected

I am attempting to fix a Qosmio G20 (which is about 3 years old, so no longer in warranty).
The error message is: Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected.
I have managed to remove the outer case and observe the machine working, and basically one of the fans is not operating at all. The fan which is nearest to the power connector seems to be working fine (it seems to spin quite a lot, dont know if this is normal), it is the other fan which does not seem to move at all.
When I reattached the case and switched the machine on I noticed after a few minutes that the heatsink vent of the working fan got quite warm, whereas the vent of the non-working fan stayed cool.
I have cleaned the fan of dust and have also altered the BIOS to battery mode from high performance mode, but still the problem exists.
I would be grateful if someone could advise whether the problem is the fan or something else.
If the fan is the problem, where can I buy one from (I live in the UK)?

    Hi
In my opinion there could be something wrong with the cooling module and the replacement would be necessary.
Usually this should be done by an authorized service provider (ASP) in your country.
The technicians could replace it with a new part and also could renew the thermal grease which is placed between the cooling module and CPU.
Therefore contact the ASP in your country and ask for the further handling!!!
By the way; you can purchase the cooling module also from the ASP!!!
    Good luck

  • 'A problem with the cooling system' error message on Satellite A660

    Hi all,
Hope I can get some help here. I've had about 5 HP laptops after all of them had problems and faults. I got sick of them and therefore got a refund and bought a high spec A660-1FH.
The A660 has been a great laptop for two days until yesterday when I started getting a warning message saying 'A problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service'.
The cpu fan works fine as you can here it spinning and the temperature of the i5-460m processor is around 40 degrees for both cores - which seems normal to me. I've noted that it happens only when running on battery and if you switch from eco utility to power saver mode. Its fine when running on the 'balanced' power setting. The fan is louder before when this message appears.
As its under 28 days my retailer swapped it for a brand new one straight away. Got the new one home, and the same message appears again. Has anyone else experienced this. As two laptops have had this, I'm wondering if this is normal for the A660 series laptop or if there is really a hardware issue?!
I have tried to upgrade eco utility and the bios of the laptop but both are the latest versions. Can anyone help or share if they experience a similar issue with their laptop?
    Thanks

In front of me I have Satellite A660-13Q (PSAW3E) and I have it about 6 weeks now. It runs almost 10 hours daily and until now I didnt notice such message or anything else that can be suspect for hardware functionality.
I really dont know why this happen on your notebook and dont think there is anything you can do about it.
I would exchange it again. What you can also try is to contact nearest Toshiba service. Make a call, explain the situation and ask if they can help you with this.

  • A problem with the cooling system has been detected

I bought a new computer not to long ago, I've had it for almost a month now. It runs fine, and I've had no problems until not too long ago. I was playing a game, and I got a random error message: "A problem with the cooling system has been detected. Please turn off the computer immdiately, and return it for service." I don't understand how or why this came up, and I don't have any money to return it for any type of repairs. After I got this message, I left my computer off for about an hour. All seems well so far. Any suggestions?

    What laptop do you have?

  • Clean installation of system 7.1 on Macintosh SE/30 ?

Could someone please advise  how to do a clean installation of System 7.1 on my old Macintosh SE/30 ?
It used to run 6.0.5, I have done an upgrade to 7.1 , but I think I have somehow messed it up.
For instance , the Apple menu is empty.
It still boots fine, and I can read floppies.
I did google a bit, but didn't find any step-by-step instructions how to do the clean installation.
I've got the floppies Install 1 & 2, Tidbits, Printing, Fonts, Disk Tools.
Could some kind soul please advise?
(I've got Macbook's , but I am not really familiar with the vintage Macintoshes.)

Would it be correct to assume that you have the (more common) 1.44 MB System 7.1 floppies (HD diskettes)?
If you do not wish to keep anything of the existing hard disk contents (and if you have backup copies of systems and applications that you want to install), you could simply boot the computer from a Disk Tools floppy and then use Apple HD SC Setup to initialise (format/erase) an Apple hard drive. If the internal hard drive is not an original Apple drive, or if an Apple drive had been reformatted by another program, a modified/special startup floppy with a third-party formatting utility would be needed instead. Thereafter, start up from the System 7.1 Install 1 disk and carry out a fresh installation.
BTW, the floppy drive is first in the boot order, so a Macintosh SE/30 should start from a (bootable) diskette even if the hard disk contains a system. If there is a problem doing this, one can try holding down the four keys Command(Apple) + Option + Shift + Delete(Backspace).
Since old system floppies become unstable with time, it is a good idea to create a set of sector-copied backup disks. The typical application for this would be Disk Copy 4.2. This program was earlier available from Apple, but the older software downloads list is not there any more. A Disk Copy 6.3.3 page can still be found, though.

  • G5 2.5 to 2.0 conversion to remove liquid cooling system

I've had a g5 2.5 with liquid cooling working well for a while now, but now doesn't boot into OSX. So I found the problem being a blockage in the LCS. While taking a part the death cooling unit I accidentally broke one of the cooling blocks and I've already tried everything from high end epoxy to jb weld to fix it with no luck. Looked into replacing it with another comp or parts and it just seems to expensive to replace just for one cooling block. So hear is my question, is it possible to replace the 2.5 g5 with a 2.0? I have the dual 2.5 from 2004 and wondered if the logic board is able to work with the 2.0 from 2004? I like the 2.0 g5 because it has no LCS, just heatsinks or could I use the heatsinks from the 2.0 on a 2.5? I really love my g5 and don't want to scrap it just yet.

    Hello,
Sorry to hear this, but did you try Amazon or eBay yet? You should look into it. You might be able to find someone with a busted leaking cooling system, but the block is still good. =) Wish you luck.
    Regards.

  • Clean up the system

I have been using Archlinux for almost a year now. I started to notice that my root filesystem size has been increasing. It now stays at 6GB. I wanted to know if there are any ways of cleaning up the system of leftover files.
I asked in irc and read in newsletter about pacman -Qdt and removed all orphan files. I still cant believe 6GB has been filled. Is it possible for pacman to list the packages in the order of decreasing size?
Have anybody faced a problem like this ? What should be the approach to cleanup the sytem?

sense wrote:That cleaned up 300MB. It seems I have installed a *lot* of packages. Can pacman output the packages in the order of decreasing size?
pacman can't, but there are many ways to do it. A simple script using pacman, or using directly /var/lib/pacman, or a tool using libalpm.

  • MacJanitor - apps to clean up my system

    Hi,
Before I used an app called MacJanitor, which cleaned up my system my iBook wasn't left on continuously. Since installing Leopard I have tried using it and it doesn't seem to be doing much - pretty much saying "Done" as soon as I run it. I wasn't sure if this was something to do with Leopard i.e. MacJanitor doesn't work with it? Alternatively, does anyone know of a similar app that work with Leopard?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thank you Yann.
I read your link to A Brody's warning about corrupted cache files -
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1322708&tstart=0
On my new iMac I installed The Sims 2.
Now my iMac behaves in all sorts of weird manners. For instance:
+i) Input and dialogue boxes now have a dark border line around them when clicked on;+
+ii) clicking on folders, opening windows and all other mouse actions now have amusing sound effects attached to them (I assume they came from the Sims 2 game);+
+iii) the 'Apple Menu' of my intel 24" 2.8ghz iMac now displays two versions of each option Sleep, Restart and Shutdown (with the Keyboard shortcut displayed for each being different and distinct - which is itself odd) amongst others. Open, Close etc. are ok, just the one as normal.+
I followed the game producer's detailed instructions to remove all items I could find associated with The Sims 2 (they told me what to look for) and trash everything. Annoyingly the problem nevertheless persists.
I read this thread because I thought of using MacJanitor to clear my cache files +(I turn all electrical stuff off at night)+ as a possible way to solve my problem. After reading *a brody*'s comments I now wonder if my own problems could be due to a corrupted cache file instead.
The reason I say this is because it only occurs in one of my four 'User Accounts', and not in my Administrator's Account.
The User account in question was 'migrated' from my eMac which has been suffering from kernel panics and has been down now for some time with me scratching my head in desperation.
I'm beginning to think that it was a mistake to migrate all my eMacs settings over to my new iMac.
Assuming all this being the case, I wonder if running Disk Warrior (or TechTool Pro 4) to fix the corrupted system cache files would work, especially as the most severe problems have occurred since installing The Sims 2 game.
I am assuming of course there is a version of these programmes available for my operating system - OSX 10.5.1 - Leopard. Both programmes resurrected my eMac to get it going but the kernal panics return nevertheless and the fault with this persist. However if a corrupted cache file is the cause not just a symptom I may be able to kill two birds with one stone!
WHAT HAPPENS IF ONE DELETES THE OFFENDING USER ACCOUNT. Can this be done? If so, what is the best way to do this to avoid data loss?
