Clean up option in PFUD

What is the use of u201CCleanupu201D option in PFUD? Please explain as I am not able to get any information on this .

Thanks for your help Siddhartha, But does this means that SAP standard profiles would be deleted? Also what I am able to see at http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp1/helpdata/en/52/6711ec439b11d1896f0000e8322d00/frameset.htm
Clean-Ups: Perform clean-ups when you generate or import profiles. Generated profiles that no longer exist are deleted. Regular clean-ups are particularly important if you transport your roles and profiles frequently, as this helps to solve possible inconsistencies quickly.
I am not able to get the meaning of u201CGenerated profiles that no longer exist are deletedu201D
Please help me to understand this .

  • I cant erase my hard drive and clean install OS X 10.6

When I try and do a clean install from the OS X disk I do not get the option to use disk utilities to erase the disk. Does anyone know why this is missing, could I have some sort of virus blocking it?

1 Why do you want to 'clean install' the OS? This isn't Windows, there's almost no reason to have to do a 'clean install' on a Mac.
2 Apple doesn't seem to think that anyone needs to do this; they have deleted the 'clean install' option.
3 if you really, really, REALLY must 'clean install', then reformat the volume using Disk Utility.

  • Clean Install Mavericks and Restoring files

Good afternoon everyone, I want to do a clean install of Mavericks on my iMac so I have a fresh system to work with.  Having read all the blogs I think I understand how to actually do the clean install via a USB stick but there appears to be a wide range of issues when either trying to restore or transfer files backed up to time machine.  Indeed many blogs cite significant problems even accessing Time machine following the clean install.  Surely this should be simple...but appears not..!
I'm primarily worried about restoring my email (googlemail), My 500gb itunes library and my significant library of photographs in Aperture.
Can anyone advise on the best way to restore files following the clean install using time machine ?  My preference would be to re-install the Itunes and Aperture software from fresh and just transfer or re-import the itunes library and photograps (not easy in Aperture I know) as files...if you know what I mean !...  I'm sure I can manage transfer of all other types of files providing I can get into the back up...
Any advice or guidance would be really appreciated..
    Cheers

TimeMachine doesn't have a clean install option. It's why I don't use it and prefer bootable clones instead as they are direct accessible in case I do just want grab files and change permissions to the new account, dumping the rest.
With timed clones on seperate hardware, makes it easier to revert from a previous OS X version or optimize and defragment your boot hard drive for better performance using a clone, booting from it and reverse cloning.

I'm primarily worried about restoring my email (googlemail), My 500gb itunes library and my significant library of photographs in Aperture.
To fresh install, you need to backup files manually to external drive (not timemachine), then wipe everything and set the machine up like brand new, with new user accounts, preferably with the same drive name (MacintoshHD) user account names, then return files to each account and do a #6 Repair Users Permissions on the files.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
iTunes shouldn't be much of a problem, provided you tag the songs in the playlist with the playlist names (attaches to the song files themselves) and use the same drive name and user account name on the fresh install so the pathnames in the itunes database matches where your files are at.
Aperture shouldn't be much of a problem for the same reason, as long as you copy the contents of your home folders direclty back into the new account folders of the same name, again to match the pathames where your files are at.
Gmail has a online website, so your emails are there, make sure you have the password. They should redownload to your machine once you set up mail in the new account (with the same name)
Local email files on the existing system will be erased with the fresh install method because they are likely seure and hidden in the invisible User/Library folder, which doesn't get restored with the fresh install method. (but will with TimeMachine restores as it copies everything)
Follow the A2 method here for a fresh install of OS X, your just targeting the existing MacintoshHD partition, a full drive wipe isn't necessary.
    Reset your Mac
You also might want to read this also, it can be used for the fresh install method.

  • How to install a clean install with leopard upgrade DVD!

Does somebody know how to do an clean install with a Leopard upgrade DVD?
I bought my MacBook for 1 week ago, and them said that i would get leopard sent later. And when i get it, its a upgrade cd that i cant install only leopard on my ny frsh hard-drive. *** apple?

First, there is no such thing as a "clean install" option in OS X. But the "cleanest" install is to start with a reformatted drive (using Disk Utility's "Partition" tab), followed by an install of the OS that will be cleansed of any traces of OS or file system corruption. (The "unclean" options, "Upgrade" & "Archive & Install" won't be possible, & the erase part of "Erase & Install" is at this point redundant.)
However, if you use Setup Assistant (which runs after rebooting) or Migration Assistant to bring over copies of old system components, applications, & settings, you may be reintroducing something "unclean" from the old versions.
This said, if your up-to-date disk is just an updater (nobody seems to know yet), you can do a "cleanest possible" install by following the above with your original Tiger Installer disk, letting it reboot & not importing anything during setup, & then following the instructions supplied with the up-to-date disk to upgrade. At this point, you may want to clone the startup disk for future reference, before adding back in your apps & user files by whatever method(s) you chose.

  • Clean up iPhone icons

I have a 3G iPhone with lots of apps.
Trouble is, there are gaps all over the place. Is there an easy way of cleaning up all the icons, so they all move back and fill empty spaces on previous app pages, so all the free space is on the end pages?

There's no one-button 'clean up' option. You have to move them individually. If you know how, stop reading here . If not:
Press and hold an app icon until the icons start shimmering. You can then drag an icon around the screen, or drag it to the next screen by dragging it off the left or right edge. Press the home key when you're done

  • AP with Clean-air Express and 3650 controller

    Hi,
Is Clean-air express supported on the 3650 wireless controller with 1602e APs? The Clean-air options on the controller are available but do not seem to be active. In the controller gui the Clean-air admin status is disabled and the Clean-air operation status is down. I did confirm the Clean Air option is enabled on the config menu for the b/g/n band. Am I missing something here or are these AP's just not supported? Thanks!

CleanAir Express is different than CleanAir. Express means that the AP does the function of detection, not the controller.  1600's & 1700's run CleanAir Express and you don't have the 100% functionality of CleanAir with these access points.

  • Using the upgrade option ...

I have already upgraded my MacBook to Leopard - I used the clean install option and backed up all my files ... my brother is now interested in upgrading but does not have the time to backup everything on his computer, if he uses the upgrade option will it keep all his preferences and everything? ... he basically wants to be able to install Leopard and then continue using his Mac without having to redo anything he already had setup on it (if that makes any sense), is that possible?

If you don't have time to make a full backup, you don't have time to install Leopard.
A backup takes less than an hour. A bad install takes forever to recover from without a backup.
People who don't have time may make mistakes. And never upgrade a system that you need on a day-to-day basis unless you really have the time. And a backup.
Theoretically, on a well taken care of machine, you can do a simple upgrade (I did 2 - one on each of my MBPs - but I still had a backup) and it might work. If it fails then the option is an archive and install but the archive will be over a failed install - it won't be a virgin archive. If that fails you have to do an erase and install and without a backup you have saved nada, zip, zilch.
There's an old saying that if you take a shortcut, leave plenty of extra time.

  • ZEN Recovery Mode Clean Up Takes Ages And Nothing Happ

One day I turned on the Zen MP3 and found that no music files appeared. However, the disk space still showed that half was used. I was told to use the Clean Up option in Recovery Mode, but it just shows a "Scan Disk" sign for hours on end.
    What can I do?

Scan disk should complete in less than 30 minutes. Have you tried format?

  • Erase And Clean Install Error

    Hi Guys,
I'm attempting to reinstall OSX on a Macpro - 10.4.10 using the Erase and Clean Install. All goes well with the first installation disc and all is going well with the second disc until it gets to garageband where it freezes and then stops installing and says that I need to try and reinstall again - I''ve tried three times now - is there something I am doing wrong or need to do differently to bypass this problem.
    Thanks

First off, there is no such thing as an erase and clean install option. These are these Mac OS X installation options:

  • Scan disk... (clean up probl

    Hi!
I was transferring some songs to mi 4GB Zen when I there was a power outage in my building. I disconnected the player and used it w/o problems for a while. Shutted it down and the next time I powered it on, the screen showed the Recovery Mode menu.
I guess due to the power cut there was some corrupted data, so I chose Clean up. I've been through this menu before and this option always worked for me. In just seconds the disk cleanup was performed and my player always worked again...
But this time I can't make it work. The player is stuck in this option for almost 4 hours, and the bottom of the screen shows the message "Scan Disk...". At first I was using the player's battery but I've just plugged the charger and still no change. If i press the up and down keys, I can move betweeen the other options of the recovery mode, so I guess the player is not dead at all.
I've read lots of messages in this forum regarding this tool but most of the problems were about players with HDD stuck in the Clean Up option (and even showing the Scan Disk message for hours!), but my Zen has a NAND memory so the disk scan should be faster, am I right?
I'm getting really nervous cause I didn't back up all the data and I'm afraid to lose it's
Has this situation ever happened to you? Any chances to rescue the music files and sound recordings? How can I make it work again?
    Any tip is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Does the computer recognize the player? You may have to format the player to get it working again

  • Sophos virus detector has advised that I have a virus- unable to clean it up manually as suggested by the quarantine Manager, please advise

I have a Mac (Mavericks) - Sophos virus detector has advised that I have a vrius - I opened Quarantine Manager -  advised to clean up manually.
However, when unlocking the padlock to do the manually clean up - the " clean up" option was greyed out.
Please advise how to get rid of the vrius - It is called Mal/frame-AH
    thank you

It's a Windows exploit, harmless on a Mac. Emptying your browser caches should remove it (if it is still there)

  • After Mavericks I've lost "clean up by" file sorting function

After Mavericks installation, I've lost the "clean up by" function from some folders, but not from all.  I can still "arange", but I prefer "clean up by" to organize files in the icon view.  I can find no pattern to this loss of functionality.    Adding to the confusion, there is now an icon for a file in the toolbar.  It's a seemingly randomly selected file, and it's the same in all folder toolbars, even though that particular file is in a different folder.  Has anyone else lost the "clean up by" function?

Ha!  I've solved the mystery.  Your comment sent me to digging some more.  When the folder is open, select "Show View Options".  A small box opens with both several options including "Arange by" and Sort By".  Dropdown menus are available for both.  Although I had "none" seelected for arrange by, I also need to have "none" selected for "Sort By".  Once configured that way, the "Clean Up" options reappeared in the right click menus.  Thanks for your reply.
