Clean-up the BW system before Upgrade

Hi ,
We are planning to upgrade from 3.1 to 3.5 . We are planning to clean up the BW system before Upgrade. What are the clean up activities to be perform e.g clean up PSA , delete unused objects/queries etc.
Please let me know if there is any documentation available on clean up.
Thanks.

Hi,
I would rather start with the unused cube/ODS and probably archive them. Then delete the PSAs for them. You may also need to do a PSA clean-up activity.

To find unused queries: There are 2 ways
1. Goto ST03N and select expert mode and under BW system load, look for the queries. It lists all the queries which uses from past 3 months. So whatever object is missing in that is not used. This is the one way of listing the queries which are not used.
2. In the technical content, you can check the queries on multiprovider 0BWTC_C10(queries realted to OLAP).
Once you identify the unused queries then use the transaction RSZDELETE to delete them.
Workbooks: Try RSWB_ROLES_REORG. This will delete workbooks etc which are not associated to a role or query.
Unused hierarchies: Check this post: Unused Hierarchies
Unused master data: Goto rsa1 -> infoobjects. Right click the infoobject and choose 'delete master data'. All 'unused' records will be deleted.
PSA Clean-up:: Check the fn module :RSATREE_PSA_DELETE_BATCH

• Problem in the BI system after upgrade

Hi,
We had EHP1 upgrade for BI 7.0 system.
After upgrade to SAPKW70107, we are facing error in mapping units to the keyfigures in transformation.
Before upgrade those objects were perfectly alright.
Please help us with some solution other than implementing SAP Notes.
Thanks in advance,
Geetha.

I'm not sure but have you checked following note?

• R12.1.1 upgrade from 11.5.10.2 - Can remove 11i file system before upgrade?

I am looking at doing the R12.1.1 upgrade on our 11.5.10.2 production system, I have done the upgrade in our Test enviornment already. Our production system has less disk space on the path with the current 11i system that will be the same location as the upgraded R12 filesystem.
Is it ok/possible to backup the 11i structure to another path prior to the R12 upgrade or does the R12 upgrade installer need the 11i file structure to be in place while upgrading?
Thank you for your help.

or does the R12 upgrade installer need the 11i file structure to be in place while upgrading? No, you just need to copy the custom files you have from 11i APPL_TOP to R12 APPL_TOP

Can anyone advise me if there is a way in which I can retrieve the lost data before upgrading the IOS software?

• Replacing development system with copy of production system during upgrade

Hello Guru,
We are planning to replace our development ECC 5.0 system with a copy of production system, and to perform upgrade to ECC 6.0.
SAP upgrade guide stating that:
"If you have modified SAP objects, make sure that you keep your development sysetem. Do not copy your production system to your development system for test purpose."
If we are planning to "Reset to original" for majority of SAP's objects during SPAU, are there other reasons we need to consider the impact of replacing development system with a copy of production system?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for your response.
When we first implemented SAP system 3 and half years ago, the consultants and the developers were using the development system like a sandbox system, they tried out features or developed programs for learning purpose.
Hence, the development system and production system are very different.
There are many repair transport requests that will never transport into production.
Also, we developed client strategy (different client numbers for each system u2013 Dev, QA, Prod) during the initial implementation.
We were told by the upgrade consultant, it is standard that the development system replaced by a copy of production system during upgrade. The client number in development system will be the same as the production system after upgrade. If I want to avoid confusion for the developer & testing users, I would have to create a new client using the previous development client number, and then perform client copy.
As I review the SAP upgrade guide, I saw the statement about not to replace development system with production system, I would like to know the reasons behind SAP's statement.
By the way, we will replace our QA system with a copy of production system during the upgrade.

• I've recently "upgraded" to Mavericks, but find it a very poor OS, so want to revert to the previous OSX. I backed up my MacBook before changing, so how do I reload the old system?

Having "upgraded" to Mavericks, I'm totally dissatisfied with it. Several things are missing that were useful on the old OSX that I had before, e.g, in Mail, there is no indication that mail is being downloaded. Also, my version of Dreamweaver won't work with Mavericks and while it's not so important on my Macbook, I haven't bothered to change my iMac. Safari, too, is not as good as on the old system. Even the trackpad is not as good as it used to be!!!! All in all, this "upgrade" is rather like a typical Windows one, i.e., of no use whatsoever!!!
I backed up my Macbook before loading the new OS, but now want to return to the much better and efficient OSX that I was using before. How do I do this?

• I have several macs with Intel core duo 2 operating systems. All are running os x10.6.8. Is it necessary to upgrade to Lion before upgrading to mountain lion when it comes out this summer? Do I need to have the "base" version of 10.7?

I have several macs with Intel core duo 2 operating systems. All are running os x 10.6.8. Is it necessary to upgrade to Lion before upgrading to Mountain Lion when it appears this summer? Do I need to have the "base" version of 10.7 first?

This is unknown, it will be up to Apple and AFAIK they haven't announced that yet.

• HT201250 Hi what is the next system that I should upgrade from Mac OS X 10.6.8? And, should I backup before downloading it?

Hi what is the next system that I should upgrade from Mac OS X 10.6.8? And, should I backup before downloading it?

You should backup before installing any new system updates or upgrades. Depending upon what your machine is qualified for you could upgrade to Lion or Mountain Lion.
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You must purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
Snow Leopard General Requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
2. 1GB of memory
3. 5GB of available disk space
4. DVD drive for installation
5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
fees may apply.
6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
terms apply.
Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
Lion System Requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
or Xeon processor
2. 2GB of memory
3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
4. 7GB of available space
5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

• It's been a while since I upgraded my system. Is there anything I should do before upgrading from 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard other than backing up my files? The transition should be pretty seamless, right?

How to Install OS X Updates Successfully
A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your current Tiger Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and later.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update. While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
D. To upgrade:
Purchase the Snow Leopard Retail DVD.
Boot From The OS X Installer Disc:
Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
Restart the computer.
Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
Wait for installer to finish loading.
E. If updating:
Download and install update(s)
Use Software Update, or
Download standalone updater(s).

I am currently at System 10.5.8. I want to upgrade to the latest system. Can I upgrade to 10.7.3 without upgradng to 10.6 first?

Yes, but unless you have a very slow Internet connection, it's easier and cheaper to go through Mac OS X 10.6.
