Clean win7 bootcamp on MBPr
Here are my notes from clean install win7 to macbook pro retina 10.8
for only $99 purchased Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 (64-bit) (OEM) http://bit.ly/RD26mM
using another computer with dvd drive, insert win7 installer disc and using disc utility create a new image with settings cd/dvd, uncompressed. This will create an image on the desktop with the extension ".cdr". Change that to ".iso" and leave on desktop.
insert an 8+ gig flash drive. Using 10.8 run bootcamp and select all 3 options and bootcamp will use that iso image and create a win7 installer on the flash drive. If will take a while and then it fails repeatedly when trying to locate the bootcamp drivers from the apple server. This is a known problem. If you hit "next" after the error message it finishes the win7 install to the flash drive but without the drivers.
After researching this problem, I found the drivers for this mbpr can be downloaded from here http://tinyurl.com/9259b94 The apple server is so slow I usedhttp://www.igetter.net/ to download the "BootCampESD.pkg" 940 meg file...thanks Nikhilr! Double click the package to install on the mac side. Then I used the app "Find File" to locate "WindowsSupport.dmg" mount this and copy all the files to a folder you make on the flash drive "Boot Camp" The folder can be any name but these files must go in a folder so as not to disturb the win7 install files on the flash drive.
Now run bootcamp assistant again and select the bottom choice of install win7, it will then allow you to partition the bootcamp ...I used 38gigs. Then is will reboot to the flash drive and go through the long install process. You will have to choose the partition to install win7 to and then click advancd to format this partition to ntfs. Bootcamp formats by default to fat32 so it must be changed. Eventually you will enter the serial number of the win7.
After win7 is installed then mount flash drive and install the drivers in the Boot Camp folder. Then restart and all should work.
Welcome to the forum!
With the X60 generation (as well as R60/T60/Z61) 3GB RAM limit is caused by hardware and not just software.
In order to be able to install a 64-bit OS, you must have a Core 2 Duo processor - vast majority of X60s units has a simple Core Duo.
In other words, even if it's possible for you to run a 64-bit OS, it's not worth it due to the aforementioned limitation.

George

Share iTunes Library between OSX and Win7 Bootcamp
I've done quite a bit of research on this but I still haven't found a solution that does what I require.
Basically my setup is a SSD & HDD in my MBP. I have OSX and Win7 (Bootcamp) on the SSD and the NTFS HDD is a shared file storage drive for both Windows and OS. I have my iTunes library located on this drive and I want to be able to share the library between the OSs. I also want changes e.g. additions deletions made in windows to be reflected in OSX and vice versa.
Technically this is possible and does in fact work if I point iTunes to the .itl file but the problem is that when I open iTunes after switching OSs it must go through a very lengthy library update which can take 30-60mins in some cases before I can use it. Obviously this is not a good solution so I'm wondering if there are any workarounds to accomplishing this?
For example can I duplicate the .itl file and have one for win and one for OSX and still have the libraries stay in sync?Just for your info, Vista ***** whatever you try to do. I'm stuck with Vista on a pre-installed laptop. All experience I have from Vista is bad, don't buy Vista or a computer with preinstalled Vista if you can avoid it.
We have three computers in a home network, one Macbook Pro, one PC with Windows XP, and the Vista laptop. All are using iTunes-8, downloaded and installed last week.
Sharing iTunes libraries using the option to share libraries on a local network works fine between Mac and Windows-XP. The sharing also works fine between the XP and the Vista PC.
But the Vista PC can't access the Mac iTunes library. When trying to open the Mac library, iTunes on the Vista computer says something like "Fetching library info from...". It's the same problem when trying to access the Vista library from the Mac.
We had a similar problem when trying to access shared folders on the local network. Thanks to a tip on this forum how to tweak the Vista registry, the shared folder problem was solved.
I'm think some registry setting in Vista might solve iTunes shared library problems. Maybe some Windows freak knows how to patch the registry to solve this issue.
Otherwise the solution is to trash Vista, and install Windows-XP. -
My MacBook Pro keyboard not working correctly after Win7 bootcamp installation.
Installation went well but when I boot either with OSx or Win it always keeps Windows keyboard.
How can I have Mac keyboard in OS boot and Win keyboard in Win boot?Hi - I have the exact same model as your MacBook and had a few questions as mine is acting up. I upgraded the ram to 8gb (2x 4GB ram) and ever since then my computer has not been running as smoothly and the start up time is horrendous. Have you encountered this problem? And if so how did you fix? What would you advise me do?
I was thinking of reverting back to the original factory 4GB then rebooting the entire computer. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Yosemite upgrade causes Win7 Bootcamp to BSOD (slightly different than others)
Like others I no longer have a working Win7 Bootcamp partition. Unlike others I still see Windows 7 when I hold ALT booting up the machine. It starts to load windows then I get blue screen of death (unmountable boot volume) and reboots. I can get to the Win7 repair but when it looks for a Windows installation to repair it does not see any.
I can also still see files in that partition in Finder, I'm just really hoping I can get back into the system since I have so many important things installed. I've seen Loner T helping many people and read lots of posts, but I just figured I'd throw my hat in and hope there's a fix for me.
Here's the output of all the commands that Loner recommends to all first:

ThinkVantage 4.0 fail after clean Win7 install
Downloaded Thinkvantage 4.0 system update after clean Win7 install on my T500 2081 CTO. Programme did not attach to my ThinkVantage Blue Button and did not even work when I started it from the start menu where it was placed. All I got was the logo. Did an erase and new install with the same result.
There are no clues on the download page at
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...cid=MIGR-73695Is this a question of first installing the Hotkey Features Integration? What about the Hot Key Driver, is that included in the Features Integration?

2013 MBPr and Mavericks: Win7 (Bootcamp) Can't Install
Anyeone have an issue when booting off of a Win 7 thumb drive, it boots, but once the setup screen for windows appears, the machine freezes. Plugging in a usb mouse doesn't do anything (the mouse doesn't work). Can't tell if its frozen or if the keyboard and mouse don't work.
Windows 8.1 isn't supported yet.
At what point are you getting the blue screen? If it is at the point Bootcamp reboots the system try taking out the WIndows USB/disc and rebooting holding the Alt key. When the boot menu shows up plug in the USB and carry on the installation by selecting the USB option -
Win7 BootCamp won't start up after Windows Update
I been using Win7 with Bootcamp for over 8 months now and no problem but last night I shut down with a windows update and this morning it can not start up at all. I just get a black screen. I can select and enter my OSX drive no problem, even access the Boot Volume and copy files off it to my Mac partition also. Holding option key on startup shows my two dirves also. Is there anyway to revert back to old version of Win7 on startup or do I have to reinstall everything again?
Did you let the update complete? or shutdown while some of the update was still to be completed. A lot of it is done and completed after a restart.
Start getting into making sure you have free space, using restore points (you may need to boot from the DVD). You can also rollback an udpate to driver or uninstall.
There are always and will be 2nd Tues of the month critical security update in two days. The only Windows Update I've seen are to Microsoft Security Essentials. Maybe 3rd party issue?
I use CCleaner 3.0 on a daily basis to clean out temp files.
(you are running Windows, Boot Camp, no, that was/is drivers and partitioning tool, nothing else). Do you use a VM also? makes it sound like you might. Updates are best done running Windows natively, that is about as close as I can make it to what people keep referring to as "running Windows on Boot Camp" is just Windows running, not as a guest OS VM. -
New rMBP 13" - Trackpad/Keyboard not working during Win7 Bootcamp Installation
Hi,
I bought the new rMBP 13" 2 weeks ago and now wanted to install Win7 on an extra partition. Using the Bootcamp Assistant, I created a bootable USB drive to install. However, when booting the USB drive and getting to the first installation screen (asking for language), I don't have a cursors to select anything. Also the keyboard is not working. I thought the Win7 might lack some drivers, but I even a different Win7 distribution (64bit) but it still wasn't working. Does anyone have an idea what I could do to fix it? Obviously, not everyone has this issue.
Thanks!Have you upgraded your EFI firmware -> http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1704?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US?

Thunderbolt disables wifi in Win7 Bootcamp.
If I boot into Windows 7 with my Thunderbolt-to-Firewire 800 adaptor connected, wifi is disabled. If I boot without it, wifi works just fine. Any solution to this?
Nevermind. I opened up the Bootcamp Assistant again and selected the option to download software updates(?). After a few minutes Bootcamp asked me to either burn the files to a DVD or an external drive. I formated my pocketdrive FAT32 and let bootcamp burn the files.
I restarted in Win7, opened my external and inside was a folder marked drivers. I found the Broadcom folder and inside were the drivers I needed. Double clicked and the wizard took it away. Now I'm online and feelin' fine.
Little trickier than I'm used to, but problem solved for now. -
Unable to boot up/into (win7) bootcamp partition following Mountain Lion upgrade
Greetings to all, I hope somebody could please help me with this issue;
A few days ago I upgraded to mountain lion, and immediately after the upgrade was completed and the system rebooted, I discovered that a new partition (Recovery-10.8) had suddenly come into existence in place of my bootcamp partition upon holding alt on boot. My bootcamp partition does show up now after re-syncing boot tables in rEFIt, though all that happens while booting up is a missing operating system error. I tried the win7 boot dvd, but it does not and did not see the partition; but very strangely, it referred to my computer as %1, and my account name in OS X is simply “1”. This leads me to believe that my bootcamp partition got knocked back a spot due to the introduction of that pesky new partition, a problem all too similar to many others’ pleas for help, though too individually complex for a simple copy and paste type of a solution~ and for a lowly user like me to tackle.
Please do help me good sirs,
Regards,
Royce
P.s. bootcamp partition never showed on startup disk
P.p.s. in disk utility it cannot be mounted, is referred to as disk0s4, and is greyed outI see two things. First, notice this fourth line from your GPT. It says ~73GB of disk space is not allocated to any partition, it's free space. Why?
40 409600 1 GPT part - C12A7328-F81F-11D2-BA4B-00A0C93EC93B
409640 742851896 2 GPT part - 48465300-0000-11AA-AA11-00306543ECAC
743261536 1269536 3 GPT part - 426F6F74-0000-11AA-AA11-00306543ECAC
744531072 153633664
898164736 78608384 4 GPT part - EBD0A0A2-B9E5-4433-87C0-68B6B72699C7
The good news is that partition 4 for Windows in the GPT and MBR have the same start - end sectors. However in the MBR no partition is marked bootable. One must be bootable and it's customary for Apple to mark the Windows partition bootable. I strongly suspect this is why Windows is not a boot option, and it's rather easy to fix.
4: 0C 1023 254 63 - 1023 254 63 [ 898164736 - 78608384] Win95 FAT32L
My suggestion is that you reclaim the missing free space before you proceed with MBR repair, but missing ~73GB of space isn't hurting anything. Try the following and report back:
diskutil list /dev/disk0
diskutil resizevolume /dev/disk0 limits
Again both are read-only commands and do not alter the disk information in any way. -
WIFI Works Fine On Win7 (bootcamp), Gives Problem On Mac OS X
I have iMac 27" late 2012 Model. ( Updated To Maverick OS 10.9)
i cant use my internet due to less wifi strength.it gets connected and the next moment it disconnects
I Installed win7 Via Bootcamp.
Wifi signals are same and i can use my internet and its running too smoothly.
I didn't moved my Mac a inch.
What To Do..
I want to use my net with maverick :/Try any of these suggestions that you haven;t already. They mainly reference Lion?Mountain Lion but may still be relevent to Mavericks:
In no particular order:
Check wifi security - if it's WEP change it to WPA or WPA2 (preferably, as it's more secure)
Change the wifi channel on the router
Create a new Network Location: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5289
Reboot the router
Also take a look at this link and the links within the article for other ideas. They mainly reference Lion, but still seem to be relevant to Mountain Lion and possibly Mavericks:

I'd like to do a clean install of Win 7 on my X60s. I'd like to use th 64-bit version, but to do that I apparently need to upgrade the bios (I'm now using 32-bit XP). I do not have an ultrabase cd drive so according to the Lenovo website I can't use the bootable CD bios update. Does anyone know how I can upgrade the bios to 64-bit and install Win7 following that? I have an external usb drive that I thought could be used. Do I have to stick with 32-bit? I was hoping to get access to an extra GB of ram by going to 64-bit.
Solved!
Go to Solution.Welcome to the forum!

George

Lion to Win7 (bootcamp) Sharing just Stopped
I have all my music on my macbook pro running lion (the newest version).
On my Mac Pro which I run in bootcamp, all of sudden, my shared library no longer shows. I have the newest version of iTunes on the bootcamp side of the Mac Pro as well. It worked fine for ever, but now it just stopped showing up. The only thing I can think of that changed was updating Lion to 10.7.5 (on the computer that is hosting the music).
On the Lion side of my Mac Pro, sharing works fine, which leads me to believe it is a setting in Win7 or something. I checked my firewall in Windows7 and there is a rule to allow itunes so I am unsure what the issue could be.
Any help would be appreciated!UPDATE
Ok so I think it is somehow related to my Mac Pro (Bootcamped in Win7 64bit).
If I switch from my Local Area Connection for my Wireless connection, homesharing works.
So using wireless I can home share, but using a wired connection it does not. Both the Local Area Connection and the Wireless had the same exact settings (IPv6 etc...).

Really I am just curious why this is the case. I do prefer a wired connection so I am hoping to get to the bottom of this. -
Clean Win7 installation in infinite cycle
I am attempting to downgrade from Win8 to Win7 Ultimate 64bit. I have installed a new SSD and disconnected my old Win 8 drive. The clean installation process started normally but eventually hung on the "Completing Installation". I
am running i7 and 6GB of RAM, so I assumed it was hung for good after nearly 2 hours and no apparent progress or DVD spin. I hard rebooted as a last resort. Maybe it was premature .. I don't know. The computer now boots to Win7 with
empty desktop except for a single model dialog that states something like "Installation is incomplete. Please click the OK button and the computer will reboot to complete the installation". The subsequent reboot ends exactly like
the first. When I boot from the DVD installation, it loads to a blank desktop (only background) and no ability to do anything. I must hard reboot at this point too.
At this point, I am just looking for a way to fix this or wipe the drive and start anew. I can't seem to figure out how to do either. I am not a BIOS and boot disk guy, so if you are kind enough to help, would you please provide detailed
instructions. Please don't tell me to boot to DISKPART and expect me to understand :-)).
Thank you.Hi,
Can you confirm you have set boot from DVD as the first priority in BIOS?
