CleanerTool won't recognize previous CS installations OSX

My Mac running OSX 10.7 was having issues, and so Apple Store did a OSX reisntall. I had CS3 and CS5 previously installed. After the OSX reinstallation, none of my Adobe products worked - they gave various errors and crashed after opening apps. I would like to run the CleanerTool to wipe all of CS3 and CS5 off my machine so I can do a fresh reinstall of CS5. Unfortunately when I try to run the CleanerTool downloaded from Adobe, it won't recognize either previous CS3 or CS5 installations. Can anyone recommend a fix, or another way of cleaning old CS installs? Thanks for your help!

Do you still have access to old files?  Some users who have used the migration assistant have reported success using the uninstallers and the CS Cleaner Tool to remove the installation.  Since you have already tried these steps unsuccessfully the best option would be to format, reinstall, migrate over only your documents and settings, and then install from the installation media.
Adobe applications are only designed to be installed from the installation media as opposed to being copied from one computer to another.
If you don't have access to the old files then your only choice will be to attempt to troubleshoot the installation failure.  You can try reviewing your installation logs to attempt to find a actionable error message.  You can find information on how to locate and interpret the installation logs at Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html.

  • Software won't recognize Ipod on installation

I installed my original Ipod software and when it gets to the point in the installation and asks you to plug in the Ipod, I do and windows says "new hardware found iPOD" but the software doesn't recognize it. It doesn't give me the option to format all I can do is click the box that says plug in iPod later. If I do that and finish installing software it won't find iPod then either but windows still does.
    Thanks for your help

Well I finally fixed my problem, I dropped itunes and have started using MediaMonkey http://www.mediamonkey.com/ which comes with ipod support that actually works(unlike my itunes).

  • Just Installed Labview, it won't recognize previously loaded DAQmx

Just Installed LabView 7.0. Previously had Evaluation version working, even using DAQmx.
Now DAQmx is not recognized by Labview 7.0 (no DAQ assistant express VI at Functions>>Input palette).
Device Driver CD won't load because it's already there... Should I punt by removing all and reload or what?
    SIDE NOTE:
Also tried to register this new S/W (purchased from NI last week) but web site (ni.com/register complains that this S/N is already registered... which is not likely as I opened the package myself)

Try running the Driver CD again to get the DAQmx support for LabVIEW 7.0. It is quite possible that when you uninstalled, eval copy, DAQmx support went away because you don't have LabVIEW anymore.
Now that you have LV 7.0, run the DAQmx installer to get the support files.

  • Time Machine Won't Recognize Previous BackUps transfered to new iMac

I just bought a new iMac and used the assistant wizard to transfer all the files from my previous Mac (a dual 2GHz G5). No problem. I have several external drives and one main (1TB) drive that I use as the TM backup drive.
When I went to make my first backup as a user of new iMac, TM is telling me there's not enough space to complete the process. What is happening is that TM is trying to backup my ENTIRE set of hard drives, thinking that, because I have a new iMac EVERYTHING is new and needs a top to bottom back up.
All my backups (which are performed hourly using TM) are still on the TM disk, when i went to look the file structure, this a folder named "Zephyr One" and another (the most recent failed backup) folder named "Zephyr One 2"
A few questions: I can't find where I can change the name "zephyr one" this used to the name of my main hard drive, but I changed that back to Macintosh HD, which is also the name of the drive on my iMac.
The biggest question: how do I get TM to recognize that it doesn't have to do a total backup as if this were the very first backup being done.
    Thanks

Zephyr One is the computer name not the drive name. That's what TM uses to name those folders. Computer name is changed in system preferences->sharing.

you can't. TM will make a full new backup on a new computer. there is no way around that. if you don't have enough space for that i suggest you either reformat the TM drive and start backups from scratch or use a different external drive for new backups.

  • DVD Drive won't recognize previously burned CD-RWs

When sending files to our printer, I burn them to a CD-RW. When the discs come back and I insert them to erase and put my next job on, the computer will not recognize the CD. Does anyone know what happens to the disc once it leaves my office and what I can do to correct this problem?

Do you have the Optiarc 7170A? Your problem sounds exactly like mine, the question on which remained/remains unanswered (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4478103#4478103).
My solution was to take out the Optiarc and put in my ex-machine's Pioneer DVR-111.
If anyone has any words of solace/wisdom on how to make the Optiarc work correctly with RWs, I'm sure BamaMan would like to hear, as would I.

  • Mac intel pro won't recognize snow leopard installation dvd

i have a dual-core intel xeon with 6 GB memory. the dvd player reads all cds and dvds except when i insert the cd to install snow leopard, it ejects the disk. this is the second disk as i exchanged for a new one at apple store (where it was recognized on the computer there) any ideas, i really want to get going on CS5. helllllp (presently running version 10.4.11

Most likely it's a hardware problem: meaning the media drive ("dvd player" is the name of the movie playing software in Applications) is either dirty or defective. A reasonable first step would be to blow canned air through the drive. If that doesn't solve the problem, then try a recommended-by-Apple media drive cleaning kit. Also test the 10.6 installer disc on another media drive to see if "any" media drives can detect it.
    Report back on results, please.

  • Erased mac book pro (2009), how can i reinstall osx?  it won't recognize any old system disc

erased mac book pro (2009), how can i reinstall osx?  it won't recognize old system discs

    Did you try:
Install or Reinstall Mavericks or Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
OS X Mavericks- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Erase and reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Erase and reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.
If you don't have the original discs that came with the computer, then you can install the retail version of Snow Leopard:
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mavericks if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;

  • OSX 10.9.5 won't recognize an external hardrive

I got a new Macbook Air running 10.9.5 that simply won't recognize my external hard drive.... I even tried formatting it with another Macbook Pro not running the latest OSX version. And another device (Smart TV) also recognizes the hard drive so I don't think that's the issue. I also opened disc utility to check whether it would be visible but it's not appearing there either...
    Help please!

Thank you so much!!! This worked for me. I went file>new>library. Then I created a new project in that library, went back to the project in the old library that wouldn't export, I highlighted all of the clips in the timeline and hit cmd-c (copy), then headed back to my new project in new library and pasted the clips there. Then when I hit Share Master File it actually worked! The window popped up as usual and I was able to export. Thank-you Thank-you Thank-you!

  • Upgrade won't recognize the hard disk to begin the installation

Powerbook G4 w/ 9.2.2 & the original CD for OS X 10.1 - thought I'd get it on and upgrade from there since I know I'll need to buy more RAM - existing is 385 & I only have 10 G on the system. I downloaded several updates, ran the security update first. The 10.1.1 update won't recognize the hard disk to begin the installation.Thought I had a clue, but stuck in the jungle upgrading. Which one is which - is Jaguar 10.2??? Do I need to be doing each of these upgrades to get it running well until I add the RAM? I'm trying to stay calm since it updated my IE and I think I lost everything I had on it - too fast with the click and assumed they were separate entities....(unless there is a genius out there who can help on that front too)
    many thanks... Kate

Hi Kate! And Welcome To Discussions!
You're lucky Kappy is helping you out with this. He is one of the more knowledgable posters here!
I'm just adding some extra info.
There are two PowerBook models that need a Firmware Update, before you can install a newer OS X.
Check if one of them is yours.
Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
The point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), and 10.4.x to 10.4.6 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
Jaguar and Panther, are no longer available directly from the Apple Online Store, as Tiger 10.4.x is the most up to date OS.
Jaguar Full Retail Version CDs, a Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, or a Full Retail Version of the Tiger Install DVD, can be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Jaguar and Panther are only on CDs, not DVDs.
More info here Tip: Using OS X Install CDs/DVDs On Multiple Macs
Once Jaguar 10.2.x is installed, you can use the 10.2.8 combo update,
or if Panther 10.3.x is installed, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the final edition of either OS.
If your Mac meets the System Requirements for Tiger, you could also consider installing that.
And then use the 10.4.6 Combo Update.
You'll find System Requirements in these links:
    Panther
    Tiger
    Additionally,
"Tiger ships on a DVD, but if your Mac doesn’t have a built-in DVD-ROM player, you’ll need CD media. When you buy Mac OS X Tiger, you qualify to purchase Tiger CDs for only $9.95."

I just upgraded to OSX Mavericks and when i use the gestures on my magic track pad it responds oddly.  Sometimes it won't recognize when my simple gesture of scrolling through a document.

Gestures is not working like it did before. The side to side, forward back swipe, is very picky. Sometimes it takes four or five tries before it works. And yes I know how to do it. I have had a magic trackpad for about one year. And was greatly pleased by how it worked, BEFORE Mavericks. It has has indeed changed.

  • Old mac won't recognize OS 10 disks for installation to allow upgrade.

I have an old Power Macintosh G3 300 Desktop (M7105LL/A) currently running OS 9.1. I want to upgrade to OS 10.3 or 10.4 (I have both disk sets).
I tried starting up from either of the disk but the PM won't recognize the 10.4 or start up from the 10.3. I get error messages offering to erase the 10.4. The 10.3 starts up on my mac in OS 9.1 even with "C" held down.
I somehow did this once b4 but do not remember the trick I used.
Unfotunately as my printer and internet did not work went back to OS 9.1 but now I am willing to work on those isses but cannot even get to that point.
Many internet sites won't work with OS 9.1 so I do need to up grade.
Note that when I start these disks from my mac laptop running OS 10 they are recognized? I'm stumped and need help.

Hi, I am tring to bring an old indigo imac g3 500Mhz 20Gb HD into the present day for my mother-in-law and have just put in 1Gb ram in order to install either 10.3 or 10.4 (I have been told that 10.5 is a no go). I have two copies of 10.4 that came with an old ibook G4 and a Mac Mini G4 and also a copy of 10.3 that also came with the Mac Mini. None will install on the iMac G3 with the note "this operating system and softare bundle cannot be installed on this Mac" (incidentally, although I am not sure this is relevant, I am using the DVD drive on my MacBook Pro by firewire link as the G3 only has a CD-Rom drive). I believe that if I buy a retail copy it will work, but at £90 it's maybe not worth it having just spent £70 on the Ram, however as I no longer use any of the other copes of 10.3/10.4 mentioned on another Mac I feel agrieved that I cannot use one of these. Does anyone know a way that will let me install one of the copies that I already have? Any help much appreciated.

  • Logic installation on second machine...  won't recognize xskey

    Hey folks,
Just got me a new imac to accompany my aging powerbook. I already have Logic Pro 7 running on the powerbook, which was installed as 6 platinum and then updated. I want to install 6 platinum on my new imac and then update it to Pro 7, but as of right now, after installing the program, it won't recognize the XSKey. I suppose this is because it's already licensed to another machine. But I thought I could run this on another machine?
Anyone wanna help a frustrated dude who's convinced this should work? This should work!!!
Any suggestions are appreciated and welcome.
    Thanks in advance
    C

Justin - you mean Apple replaced your blue key with an Apple one, but included authorisations for Logic versions prior to 7?
Yes. I was using Logic P before the XSKey existed - it would be a really bad move to not support that compatability for users of older versions, IMO. It's not like they would be granting free software since Pro consolidated all softwares.
If so, that's good news, because I'm sure they've stated in the past that they will not generate authorisations for versions before 7.
I don't know what their policy is now, this happened shortly after 7 was released ( emagic.de still existed ) - transistion phase may have ended some time ago...(?) - I wouldn't guarantee this possibility.
It does mean then that if I ever killed my key, I could keep my PC5, Mac5, Mac6Pro and Mac7Pro authorisations intact on a replacement key, which is reassuring.
Since the XSKey# is unique, you would have an entirely new set of auth #s - if they don't support that anymore ( based on what you have read... ) - I wouldn't be 100% certain that the auths would be delivered in your scenario. But, it was possible at one time during Apple branded Logic. Some hope there.

  • Had to reinstall Panther - now CD won't recognize OS9 disks

I have a B&W G3 with 2 hard drives in it. Had to replace the larger of the two, and of course it was the one with my startup system (or one of them.) I could boot from my 9.2 startup disk which was on the other hard drive. I made a copy, using the disk utility restore function, on to a backup drive so that I didn't lose everything on the crashed disk. Then I replaced the hard drive, partitioned it and reinstalled Panther all the way to the most recent update. I was able to capture just about 98% of all of my previous system setting, extensions, etc., yet now when I put in an older CD (that was comaptible with OS9) it says it is "unrecognizable" and wants to inititialize or eject. When I go to system profiler it says there is no OS9 drivers for the CD. It is the original CD ROM from Apple, a matshita CDR. How can I recapture the driver? Where would it be?

    Daisy:
Since you already have everything in place on separate partitions, and it is so much of a hassle moving stuff around, I suggest you leave things alone until you need to something by way of re-installation.
In terms of backing up a firewire external HDD would be prefereable as you could then use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to clone to the firewire external, which you can then use as an emergency startup drive. It makes backing up a lot easier. SuperDuper is very easy to use and efficient. CCC works well, too, but is slightly more complex.
Re: Had to reinstall Panther - now CD won't recognize OS9 disks

So, Cornelius, what you are saying is that I am making it harder for things to function smoothly? The reason I have been doing the partitions is to save time when running something like Disk Utility. It goes a lot faster on a 20GB than it would on a 100GB, or am I wrong in assuming that?
Now I have the daunting task of removing everything that I have finally gotten in place to the backup drive, and reformatting my MAC! UGH! Is there an easy way to do this without re-installing the major programs I use? When I was getting the data off of the previous bad drive, I dragged and dropped them onto the backup disk (a Simpletech 160GB USB) and that was very time consuming. I think it was slow because I have the old USB 1.1 and the backup is a USB 2.0. I did not use the backup software that came with it, because I was in panic mode and accidentally erased the program when I formatted the backup drive. Now I have it, but haven't used it yet. Even so, I was able to drag and drop most of the files and it worked fine, but I had to reinstall the OSX, QuarkXpress, and Indesign. This has been going on for a couple weeks and I am still tweaking things to get it right.
When I used the "restore" function it put the drive on the backup but not in a folder. When I dragged and dropped it went across like folders. Do you have any advice for me to make this less painful?
+One more point - if I did use the install OS9 drivers the first time, and it didn't, what would it do if it was only one partition? Would I get them back or not?+
You can check to see if the OS 9 drivers are installed by going to Apple Menu > About this Mac > More info > Hardware > ATA. In the lower section of the main panel go down the list and look for OS 9 drivers installed. It will say yes, or no.
    Good luck.

  • G3 won't recognize Internal IDE hard drive!

I'm trying to resuscitate a B&W G3 mac (rev. 1) from a Goodwill, and I've gotten it to boot from a G3 installation CD with OS 8 on it, but it won't recognize the sole 27GB IBM ATA/IDE drive I have plugged into it. (The previous owner held onto the mac's original drive.) My drive used to be the master drive in my Quicksilver G4. (I erased and reformatted the drive prior to moving it out of the G4.) I've tried adjusting the drive's jumper configurations, but no matter what, the Mac won't recognize the drive & allow the OS to be installed on it.
Why is this happening? Is this some kind of logic board failure? Will I need to reformat my drive in some special way? Will I see results if I invest in a ATA-133/100 PCI controller card and plug my drive in there?
    B&W G3 300Mhz   Mac OS 8.6 or Earlier   256MB RAM

When the drive was in the G4, you formatted it as a Mac OS Extended (HFS+) volume, which is imperative with a drive of that size. If formatted as a Mac OS Standard (HFS) volume, the drive's storage capacity would be squandered with small files parked in excessively oversized allocation blocks. When you referred to using a G3 CD with OS 8, do you mean OS 8, 8.1, or 8.5.1? A CD with OS 8.0 would pre-date the beige G3s, and OS 8.0 doesn't provide support for HFS+ volumes. If the CD has "G3" printed on it and contains OS 8.1, it's intended for use with a beige G3, because the earliest B&W G3s shipped with OS 8.5.1. If your boot CD has OS 8.5.1, then the problem is undoubtedly related to the Rev. 1 IDE controller's lack of support for large drives. A much-smaller IDE (4 - 8 GBs) drive or a Mac-compatible ATA controller card will solve the problem.
