Cleaning area around trackpad

i was giving the area around the trackpad a little wipe since it was getting a little grey, but i can't help but notice that the extra white 'coating' pasted around fitting just around the keyboard is very absorbent when it comes to wet tissues. is this something i should be very concerned about? have i unknowingly drowned my macbook?
(sorry if this sounds silly -- i'm just worried! a couple drops of water does no harm, right?)

Hi Paula,
I recall the pads you mention but can't exactly recall the site recommended that sells them. That said http://www.shinza.com/ has stuck in my mind for some weird and woderful reason.
I'm pretty certain that was the site although a quick search through the site reveals the pads in question aren't there. I did find these ones though which may be of interest:

That should be a simple thing to do in PSE 8 Mac or Fireworks (both up to date in a top of the line Mac Pro) right? Take the eraser erase the areas around the item you want and save the result. Or if you want to get more sophisticated you select the area with the magic wand or quick selection tool and click erase or make invisible and save. I probably can think of another way. Don't you get any dialog box when you save as gif?
If not, then how about doing a Wave for Web?  This is what I get when I choose GIF from the pull-down list, and there is the Transparency box.

  • CS5 printing into area around image

Hi, my setup is Intel OSX 10.6 CS5 64bit Epson printer. After profiling the paper I'm using the prints are having very light layer of ink going down into the printable area around the image even though the image has ended. The only way around this at present is to extend the canvas to beyond the printable area of the paper, which is not always ideal.
Has anyone come across this or have any clues as to what is happening?
    Thanks
    Ted

Search the forums for previous discussions.
It could be an Epson driver bug (get an update), or a MacOS bug with ICC version4 profiles (Apple is working on it).

  • Defining the 'selection area' around a button

    hi there,
I'm making an interactive pdf from InDesign - buttons linking to other pages within the document.
All fine so far - but when I make the pdf, the selection area (i.e. the area around the button that triggers the rollover effect) is too large - and as there are a lot of buttons close together it's easy to select 2 by mistake.
I can edit the selection area (for want of a better description) boxes in Acrobat but wonder if there is a way to specify it in InDesign?
    thanks
    Sue

    thanks Steve.
I seem to be  having trouble even achieving that now - when I use the handles of the bounding box in Acrobat (tools > interactive objects > select object) to try to resize it, it seems to move the graphic too. Is there anything obvious I'm doing wrong?
    many thanks again. Sue

Apple stores have classes, look online for the Apple store closest to you & their schedules. Here's Apple's free iPhone app to do so right on your phone:

  • Pages gray areas around edges of document

On Pages I have created a brochure and when I print it, it cuts off part of the brochure. I selected show layout and it showed these gray areas around the brochure where it was cutting off part of the brochure. I can't get these gray areas to go away. How do I get them to go away?

I said they avoid the edges but since the non-printing borders vary from printer to printer, some can even print right to edges, a designer can only guess at what is reasonable. As Walt said, it is difficult to design a 3 fold brochure for the edge bleed because 1/3rd of the sheet isn't very big and the set back is quite large by comparison.
When you fold the brochure it is only the outer edge that doesn't print so it can look quite unbalanced.
You happened to pick the worst case, probably because it looked better on screen. It is laid out wrong too for the folds, they never allowed double the gutter to the insides of each leaf.
My kids have used that one umpteen times for school projects. We also use metric A4 so the problem is not quite as bad as the shorter US Letter.
I recognised the problem the first time they used the design and adjusted it to compensate.

  • How do I clean under the trackpad?

Every now and then I get so much crap under there, it's difficult to use. Usually, I need to go to the Apple Store so they can clean it but I'd like to save some time and gas money for something so simple. Is there a way to clean it that won't void the warranty (I assume opening it up might be an issue).

The only "under the trackpad" I am aware of is between the surface you are resting on and the trackpad resting on it.  Otherwise there is no "under" you can get at as far as I can tell.
Just wipe the underside of the TP with a soft rag.  Clean the top with something like iKlear using a microfiber cloth.  That's what I do at the same time I clean my display surface with the iKlear.

  • Why are hp trackpads on the left side of the computer?

i have a dv5000 (made in 2006). the trackpad is centered, equal distance from the left and right sides of the computer. all older models i have found had their trackpads centered.
i was thinking of a new laptop. but on your website, all the models i'm interested in have the trackpad on the left side. i don't mean slightly to the left - one edge of the trackpad lines up precisely with the center, and 100% of the trackpad is to the left of that edge. at bestbuy, it was very awkward for me to reach and use the new hp trackpads, because i am right handed (fun fact: the majority of humans are right handed). to be specific: i type with my right fingers on the right side of the keyboard, so if i want to push the "enter" or "delete" button, i use my right hand, never my left hand; if i plug in a mouse, i place that mouse on the right side of the computer, never on the left side.
    so a few questions -
    1. are you primarily marketing your laptops toward left-handers?
    2. with the new laptops, how long will my right wrist last before i develop carpal tunnel?
    3. seriously, can i special order a laptop with the trackpad on the right side?

I think the complaint is valid.  My husband is looking for a new laptop and in the 17" displays, the annoying numeric keypad addition has caused you guys to move the track pad off center.   Please tell me that HP intends to make 17" laptops without the numeric keypad - please!  The off centered placement makes the screen out of symmetry and is distracting.  It also makes it awkward if you are typing with the laptop on your lap instead of on a table.

  • Reducing blank area around printed pages doc....

After printing a pages document, based on the 'Flyer' template, the white border around the document is massive. In fact the actual printed area matches very closely the size of an A5 page. I have checked the page size, and unless there is a setting for it I have missed, it is A4 sized. In fact, I can show Pages' rulers to confirm it thinks the page is 21.0 x 29.7cm.
Retrying with a new tempplate, before editing it, prints as I would expect, right up to the very edges of the paper.
I have been through all the Instector pages and I can't see anything I recognise as the fault, that doesn't necessarily mean that it definitely isn't there somewhere though. I think I may have messed around with the little blue arrows in the rulers at one stage but finding them again doesn't answer it.
The only clue I have is it displays the page, when I'm editing it, with a large grey space to the left of the document, which looks about the same size as the missing page area. This document concerns the sale of a very expensive piece of property so it is quite important to me.
I enclose this picture hoping it will make answering the question easier...

    Perfect answer!
    That's fixed it... thanks Peter!

  • Need advise, area around lens looks wet.

Hi, I am new here. I recently purchased a Canon EOS Rebel T4i/650d. It came with the 18-55mm kit lens, But I went ahead and purchased a Sigma 18-200mm and a Canon EF-S 55-250mm 1:4-5.6 IS II Lens..... I have only owned this camera and gear about 3 weeks, and received the 55-250 mm lens just last week.. But to get to the point.. The plastic at the front of the lense where the wording is, looks damp and has what apears to be hair line areas where moisture has soaked in? It is only happaning on the canon lenses and the sigma looks dry. Can anyone tell me what is causing this problem and how to prevent it? These lenses have never gotten wet from rain and such and 90% of the time have been in doors either sitting in a dry camera bag or mounted on the camera. I never noticed this problem before i started keeping hoya C-PL and FDL filters screwed on the ends. Could the filters be the issue? Should I be worried about this? I have 5 silica packs in the top mesh of my camera bag to prevent moisture... im new so any advice would be awesome. Cheers

I looked at the plastic are under a magnifying glass and it does not appear to be cracks, but scratches... The state of the lens has not changed even after leaving it out with the cap off for 24 hours. I am now thinking they might be pressure marks from the filter being screwed on too tightly. I took my kit lens out and put the filter on it as I usually do but made it a bit more snug, took some shots from my sun room for about 15 minutes and took the filter off to check..... And there were twice as many of these "wet" looking marks on it. So i am now thinking it is due to the metal threads rubbing and applying pressure on the plastic ring causing this look... not moisture. I decided to start cleaning the plastic ring with a qtip barely damp with alcohol hoping it would dry it out if it was water but has made no difference. That is another reason its making me think pressure marks instead of moisture. Thank you both for the replies and will continue to keep an eye on the lens.... Cheers
Yes, you are correct. It is not moisture. It is just your filter rubbing against the plastic name plate. It is nothing to worry about and you could even replace the name ring yourself for $15 or less.
The ring is just held on with a weak adhesive backing and can be peeled off very easily.
Here is how you can do it: Use a toothpick
Here is an example of a replacement ring you can buy on Ebay: Canon front name ring 55-250MM
Canon should also be able to sell you the correct ring as well.

  • NUMA node zero at 100% CPU utilization while others are around 50% - why?

    Questions:
How can I tell which processes are maxing out one of my eight NUMA nodes' CPU?  i.e. what tool would give me that insight?  I've poked around procmon.exe and don't think it has this, but am not sure yet.
Any thoughts on what's going wrong overall, given the description below?
    Symptoms:
Task Manager shows one NUMA node at 100% CPU (and in processors view, shows all 8 CPUs in that node at 100%), while other nodes range from 0-90% depending on load
SQL Server, which is the only significant CPU user on this box, is running regular jobs 2x slower than it did last week.  Last week it was running Windows and SQL 2008 R2 SP1, and this week it has been rebuilt (from scratch - not upgraded) with Windows
    and SQL 2012.
    Environment:
HP DL980 G7, 64 cores, 1TB RAM, 50TB fast disk for SQL use, 120TB slow disk for file storage
Hyperthreading enabled - last week, it was not (since it's not supported well in Windows 2008 R2 with the Hyper-V role and 64 cores)
Windows Server 2012 Standard, installer we got via Software Assurance (and yes, I have an MS support case, ID 112110854959943, but I often lose days before my case escalates to the right person, so I'm hoping someone knowledgeable sees this first,
as I have some very unhappy users!).  Last week was Windows 2008 R2 SP1 Enterprise.
SQL Server 2012 RTM Enterprise Core.  Will update to latest CU as soon as I get a maintenance window.  Last week was SQL 2008 R2 SP1 Enterprise.
Max d.o.p. on six SQL instances is set to 8, on the seventh it is set to 16.  No CPU affinity set by us for SQL or anything else.
Hyper-V role installed.  Had this role last week too.
Domain controller.  Had this role last week too.
Also running DFS (with replication turned off this week, though it was on last week), not much going on there right now so I don't think it's related to the problem.
Task Manager and Resource Monitor show Memory is fine (100GB free), Disk is fine (<500 MB/s I/O, compared to regularly running at 1-2 GB/s in the past).  perfmon won't open for me, possibly due to an unrelated problem (port exhausting with DNS Client,
another MS support case we have ongoing)
    Planned next steps:
I have removed the Hyper-V role and am awaiting user permission to reboot for that to complete.  Will see if that fixes it.
If it doesn't, I'll reboot again and remove hyperthreading.
And in the meantime, via MS support and this post, I'm trying to understand what is going on, what is wrong.  I would love your help!

To follow-up on Ethan's post (he works with me) - this is what it looks like in Task Manager.
Normally, all 64 CPUs would be at/near 100%. But SQL jobs look they are being bottlenecked on NUMA node 0 (despite no affinity being set - everything is default/automatic). Another symptom (other than very slow SQL jobs) is that various management tools
in the host partition are very unresponsive.
    The significant changes are:
    * WS2012 vs WS2008R2 SP1
    * SQL2012 vs. SQL2008R2
    * Hyperthreading enabled in BIOS to give 128 logical processors to the hypervisor. 64 logical processors are made available to the host partition (the limit in WS2012)
All SQL instances are  running in the host partition. There is no significant network or other activity on this box. No VMs are running. CPU-Z shows 8 sockets, 8 cores/socket, 8 thread/socket in the host partition. So despite hyperthreading/SMT being
turned on, it looks like all 64 real cores are being exposed to the host partition.
See also here, where Microsoft recommends leaving SMT/hyperthreading on in all cases with WS2012:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/matthts/archive/2012/10/14/windows-server-sockets-logical-processors-symmetric-multi-threading.aspx

  • The area around the tabs get corrupted after sometime. This has started since version 35

On my Windows 8.1, beginning with Firefox 35, a strange problem has started appearing. Strange Chinese fonts appear in tabs area making it impossible to deal with tabs. It starts appearing in all firefox windows opened subsequently. This starts after around an hour of starting firefox and continues until all sessions are closed. I have tried reinstalling firefox. Now I have updated to version 36. Still the problem continues.

  • White/Gray area around cursor

Hi guys, I am somewhat new to the whole Final Cut Pro X thing, and very inexperienced, but i just have a quick question. Whenever I move my cursor (red line) along the timeline of my project as I'm editing, there is a little white/gray/translucent area that follows the cursor everywhere, it is almost like a range thing. I limits my ability sometimes when I am using tools like the blade, and I can't be as precise as I would like to. Im sure I just have some option selected that I can get rid of, but is there any solution to getting rid of that little area so I can be more precise and do it more manually?
    - Thanks

The pale bar is one frame of video. You're zoomed into the timeline. The playhead can only move in one frame increments; there are no subframe increments. The skimmer can move through the audio in subframe samples.

    Hi experts,
We used command 'prstat -J -n 1,100 -z global 1 1' to obtain the project statistics.
One of my customer who have around 800 processes with around 300 users facing problem on his machine whenver the above prstat command executed. As per his comments 'prstat' consuming high CPU and it taking much time to execute.
He has using machine with following configuraton:

Is any one has face similar issue? Is it related to any OS patch?

The folks at NotebookCheck do the kind of benchmarks you reference. You can see their results at:

The tests I ran were just to help me decide which laptop to use since I now have both.
I do use ATTO as well as CrystalDiskMark for disk/SSD read and write testing. Of course both go off the map when you enable RAPID in the Lenovo with the Samsung 850 Pro installed. RAPID does actually speed up work processing...not just wow the I/O test software.
I was getting about 550/450 MB/s read/write with both laptops before I enabled RAPID. With RAPID I get 3345 read and 1833 write with the Lenovo.
Too bad RAPID does not work with all Samsung SSD storage devices.
