Cleaning Cache History makes CPU hang for hours.
My FF settings history remembering is 90 days.
Each day having approximatly 1000 pages.
Today FF started to hang even when just writing thats why i wanted to solve problem with solthing witch has a problem- CLEAN CACHE AND HISTORY.
1. Closed FF
2. Opened FF
3. Clicked to clean all HISTORY EVERYTHING
P.roblem- it started to use all CPU and every 25 second it pops up UNRESPONSINVE SCRIPT.
I click continue couse that of course is not for websites (couse none is opened now) but for history cleaning FF script.
Unless i click continue it doesnt work with cleaning history right? Or not?- all cpu is down, so no cleaning happening, but i want to clean history.
Current Firefox versions keep a maximum number of visited page and do not have a time limit for the history.
Firefox determines automatically how many pages can be kept without affecting the performance.
You can see the current value of this maximum as the value of the read-only pref places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages on the about:config page.

If you still have browser.history_expire_days prefs then you can reset them via the right-click context menu.
You can delete all places.sqlite files including places.sqlite-shm and places.sqlite-wal in case there is a problem with the file.
You can check for problems with the <b>places.sqlite</b> database file in the Firefox profile folder.

I am soooo disappointed with the apple customer service at the local store in Tampa......every time they give u an appointment and make people wait for hours......there was some cosmetic problems with the screen of my Mac book pro....they replaced it but the computer would not turn on....and btw when I went to pick up my computer the representative handover my computer to another guy without checking his id who was there to pick up his phone.......then I had to take it back second time this time they messed up my iWork...I took it back but they couldn't retrieve my history of purchase of iWork...and then when I installed the iWork at home...none of the applications is working.... .I will have to take is back fourth time.....I loved apple products but may be not anymore.......
Other than what Shotist007's remarks (which solves nothing) your experience is not common. First I would speak to the store manager to get things rectified for you. If that doesn't work out then I would contact AppleCare and speak to a customer service representative and complain via that venue.

Why DBMS_STATS.GATHER_TABLE_STATS hangs for hours for some time?
is this issue arise due to the GATHER_STATS_JOB schedule or any other issue?
please help me.

IMac erase OS hard drive hangs for hours - powered off now only get a spinning cog whatever I do
I have a 27 inch 2011 iMac that I have been trying to totally wipe and reinstall the OS (Mountain Lion) by erasing it with Command + R. It has a 2TB drive in it and the problem is that at the end the erase hard drive hangs on last bit for hours on end. I (probably stupidly) held down the power button and tried doing it again.
Since then every time all that has happened is the Apple logo comes on and the cog constantly spins.
Holding the command key on startup cos spins then eventually brings up a blank screen. If I press the C key with a CD in there it starts making CD reading noises for a few minutes then does nothing - the cog just spins forever.
I am really worried that I have totally messed this thing up forever and dont want to have to start taking it apart at all if possible.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

If your iMac is only booting to a gray screen or Apple logo with a "spinning gear," try these troubleshooting steps first:
Disconnect, test peripheral devices and network cables
Note: "Peripheral devices" refers to external devices other than what came with your Mac, such as hard drives, printers, or hubs that you connect via a USB or FireWire cable.
Shut down your Mac. If necessary, hold your Mac's power button for several seconds to force it to power down.
Disconnect all peripheral devices such as external hard drives or printers (leave only the display, a keyboard, and mouse connected).
Disconnect any Ethernet cables.
Start up your Mac.
If you are using a desktop Mac with a third-party keyboard and/or mouse device, and the issue still occurs, try starting up with an Apple keyboard and mouse connected instead. Try starting with no keyboard and mouse connected, then connect them after start up. Also, try a different USB port on your Mac.
If the gray screen issue persists with no devices connected, go to the next section (with the peripherals still disconnected).
Perform a Safe Boot
Simply performing a Safe Boot may resolve this issue.
Shut down your Mac. If necessary, hold your Mac's power button for several seconds to force it to power down.
Start your Mac, then immediately hold the Shift key. This performs a Safe Boot. Advanced tip: If you want to see the status of a Safe Boot as it progresses, you can hold Shift-Command-V during start up (instead of just Shift).
Note: A Safe Boot takes longer than a typical start up because it includes a disk check and other operations.
If your Mac starts up as expected, immediately try restarting.
If the Safe Boot does not work, or the restart after a successful Safe Boot does not work, go to the next section.
Reset the NVRAM / PRAM
Shut down your Mac. If necessary, hold your Mac's power button for several seconds to force it to power down.
Reset the NVRAM / PRAM.

I have tried everything even trying to transfer the particular event from that library to a new library using iphoto manager just so I can export my project and send but still no success as it is telling me that it is getting no info from the library, I changed permissions on the drive ..still no success . I restarted Iphoto and it took hours to show the images but all events thumnails said "0" and it shows all the event cover photos as a gray photo with a palm tree in it or something . I tried rebuilding again this morning and the new library says "0" photos and a library size of 7.3 mb
I got my own Macbook 17in back yesterday and downloaded Mountain Lion to my machine and Iphoto 9.3
I tried to open the library which is 523 GB of images that used to work fine before getting an error message saying it needed to be repaired. I tried opening it with Iphoto 9.3 via I photo manager which told be that there were inconsistencies in the library and it needed to be repaired I chose that option and it is now the following day still "rebuilding thumbnails" since last night . This is a huge problem I have missed project deadlines and my income is severely affected by this situation of not being able to access my work. What can I do to fix this, access my files and export my overdue project at this point ?Terence I find it surprising that you would say use Iphoto Manager after saying that I used it to rebuild using it took me to 99% of the way and just hung. I even spent my $20 and got the latest version 3.8.3 which was supposed to remedy these issues. See below my email to Fat Cat software the makers of Iphoto Manager:

Its days later and the support at Fat Cat software emailed me asking a question and are apparently just as floored as I am with this malfunction ..I hope they are working feverishly to address this as my conclusion and solution is as follows :
Using the older version of Iphoto Library Manager when my machine asked me to upgrade and rebuild instead of the first aid function in Iphoto 9.3 did not help but actually corrupted my library and downloading the latest version did not help remedy it either. What I should have done and am now doing is using the Iphoto first Aid function in Mountain Lion and Iphoto 9.3 using option command to rebuild the entire library. So far it is working with no hangups ...it is now rebuilding image version number 6715 and counting with 33000+ images to go ..if this solution really rebuilds then that is the ONLY way to go with this issue which has cost me a lot of time and money in missed deadlines , lost income and lost business . Iphoto and Iphoto Library manager are normally great in what their purposes are and in ease of use and function but whenawry with compatibility in version software issues arise things go terribly awry and the tedious painstaking fixes available that go for days on end just do not cut it. -
Need a quick help!! Query hangs for hours

This is actually a stupid rollback query iam working on, for a one time load which is to be done this weekend.
DELETE FROM OWNER.SBS_PYMT_FEE where CRE_USR_ID='';
The actual problem, it takes hours to respond in QA and should take more time in PROD Considering the volume, it is doing a full table scan and our DBAs suggested Indexing on CRE_USR_ID would be a bad idea as the table is partitioned and is huge. CRE_USR_ID is the only column identified for 1 file.
This is a one time activity.
Any ideas or work arounds would help me a lot.
And sadly, I do not have access to more stats.

Iphone been hang for hours until battery flat! any solution to off it ???
when i surf the net half ways, the iphone 3G jsut hang on that page with the lights on. Just cant press any button to off it or do anything on it include put a charger on it. The phone become so warm and finally automatice off it after 2 hours as battery flat.
Is there any ways to off it if happen again?Reboot phone. Hold down home and sleep button together until the apple logo appears (ignore the red slider which appears before this) release and the phone will reboot. This solves most problems.

After updating to mavericks on my MacBook, the screen keeps saying "setting up your mac." It has been like this for hours! How can I make it go faster? It's has been like this for 4 hrs.
I don't think your mac is setting up. It's stuck.
I would:
hold the power button until it shuts down
unplug all peripherals
do a safe boot (restart and hold down the shift key until you see the apple logo).
If it starts up in a safe boot, then you can try restarting with a normal boot.
If it does not start with a normal boot, then you probably have some incompatible third party software. Likely culprits are:
MacKeeper
CleanMyMac
third-party antivirus software
any other "cleaning" or "optimizing" or similar third party "utilities".
A good place to start would be to uninstall any of those (while in safe mode) and then restart. -
my family shares one apple id among 4 devices. how do i make it IMPPOSSIBLE for my children (i pad mini and i pod touch 5) to view my contacts and texts while still sharing my apps? please help. been working on this for hours.
Delete your account in 1. "Settings > iCloud" + 2. "Settings > Messages > Send & Receive" + 3. "Settings > FaceTime", but still let them using your account for iTunes and app purchases in "Settings > iTunes & App Stores". Of course, please make sure that they do not know your password to set up your account for iCloud again or purchase anything alone.

This is normal and is how Apple handles photos.
There are NOT duplicate photos.
Just as a song is in your itunes library and you can access that exact same song from a playlist, all photos synced to iphone are in the photo library and those exact same photos (NOT duplicates) can be accessed from the individual albums.
It is working exactly as it should. -

This problem presents both before and after upgrading to FF 3.4.16. Numerous cache/history/cookie purges have had no effect. Gmail loads fine if FF is run in Safe Mode. It is also fine if all plugins are enabled and all extensions disabled. If any extension is enabled I can log into Gmail but the following page (the actual email page) cannot load; it hangs and eventually suggests using HTTP mode. HTTP mode does load completely if invoked.I've performed all the steps in this article:
