Cleaning Ear Buds?

hi,
Does anyone know how to clean the white ear buds that come with the Ipod? I seem to be getting re-occuring ear infections! Thanks!
-Shari

have you outfitted it with the earbud covers that came with your ipod? if not, you might have to clean them every now and then, using a needle or something similar to clean the very small holes in the buds.

  • In-ear buds vs normal buds?

Has anyone ever seen/bought the Apple radio remote with in-ear buds instead of the normal buds? There are photos of in-ear buds on the remote floating around the web, but I've only ever seen them in stores with the normal buds. Doing a Google image search for the various versions (A, B, C) yields no consistent results.

Sorry, I can't be of much help with your problem, but I couldn't resist---- you say YOU are "footing the bill" each time for your wife's earbuds--- I have only one question. Does your wife contribute nothing to your relationship? Earn no money? or clean your house? or take care of your children? Or cook your meals? Do your laundry? If so, how dare you say that she deserves less than you do? Ok, meant no harm, your wording just left me with a bad taste.

  • EAR BUD Headphone Problems .. the how to fix them thread!

    Hi Guys,
Said I would start off this thread for all those with EAR BUD Headphone problems. Specifically:
    - Those with ONE SIDE quieter than the other
    - Those with ONE or BOTH sides completely gone.
This would apply to those who own Creative players with Ear Bub Phones supplied or the like.
I think I have a solution to those with "ONE SIDE quieter than the other". If you pull off the rubber gels from the phones you will see a MESH. You might notice an ear wax buildup on the outside of this mesh. Dont bother cleaning it yet. Now you may have to do something you wont like - Use a Jewelers Screwdriver OR some tool equally thin to POP OUT the mesh. Now turn the mesh around. You should now see the problem - HUGE WAX BUILDUP on the under side. NOW clean both sides if you wish, but you might be at a hiding for nothing - I challenge you to get the mesh back in. Not to worry - the phones and sound should now be back as it was in day one. Stick the GELS back on without the mesh. Also behind that mesh maybe a piece of foam. Up to you what you want to do with this ...
It seems this WAX buildup issue on the underside of the mesh in EAR BUDS is a common problem across all makes. I have a Creative, Seinheiser and Philips set - all with the same issue. I did the above on all - now all are back working fine.
Of course you may have to be on WAX lookout more frequently if you cannot get the MESH back in, which maybe the case most of the time. It would seem the very device - the mesh - that protects the buds from WAX buildup is causing a problem itself ..
WITH respect to issues with NO SOUND on either or both sides, this maybe a cracked wire, usually up around the bud end. One thing I have not figured out in most Ear Buds is how to open the casing - over to somebody else for this,
Hope this is helpful to others,
Cheers, Aidan ( Cork, Ireland )

That's a bit trickier. I think I'd select the text from the beginning of the frame wher the continuation starts and cut to the clipboard, then paste at the end of the text in the frame from where it should continue. That frame should now show an overset, and you should have a bunch of empty linked frames where the text was previously located.
Turn on show text threads and find the first out port in front of the now empty frame and click it, then click inside the same frame (or double click the outport should work too). This will break the thread at that frame, but leave the empties threaded together so you can pick up the overset and flow it back in from the other page.

  • 5g ipod nano 8GB no sound through ear buds or headphone jack only when docked.

5g ipod nano 8GB no sound through ear buds or headphone jack only when docked. any suggestions? i don't want to replace any of the parts inside if at all possible.
I have a 5th generation 8GB iPod nano. I bout it off of eBay in May of 2010 and it has worked great until now (Apr 2011). The 5th gen plays music through the headphone jack even when no ear buds are plugged in. I was using it one day and it just stopped. I tried resetting it manually and automatically and I tried reinstalling iTunes. Nothing has worked. Now it won't even play sound though the ear buds (or the aux hook up in my car), only when it is docked to my iHome. Does anyone have any suggestions? I dont want to replace the iPod or any parts inside if at all possible. ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOMED! THANKS!

Headphone jacks are only good for so many in and out usages.  Usually its the headphone jack itsefl that goes bad first but sometimes it is the internal part.  If you are lucky you can clean out the inside and get it to work.
These devices are not made to last for someone who actually has those headphones around there neck and acually uses there listening devices through out the day plugging it in and out.  This is not in any way an Apple thing, it is a problem with many devices.  The male ends tend to get dirty hanging around then scratch the female end when used.  In fact, using higher end headphones you can really notice even the smallest particles of dust on the male end of plug when used, that is the small popping you might notice when the cord moves.
Hopefully its a problem on the male side of things.
I would recommend a person that wants to use headphones alot to keep a small 2 inch extension plugged into there device that can be replaced when it goes bad inplace of wearing out the original plug.
Again, this is not an Apple problem alone.

  • I have the Ipod touch and only can hear out the right ear bud

I have tried numerous ear buds, even when listing to ipod in car, via a cassette adaptor plugged into ipod touch - can only hear out of the right speak.
I even took back my initial ipod thinking it was defect, but it is happening on this new one as well - any thoughts please?  thank you

Sounds like the headphone jack in the iPod is defective and needs replacement. Have you tried cleaning the jack?

  • In Ear buds for Gym use

    Hey!
My wife is currently lamenting the passing of her FOURTH pair of 'Sennheiser cx300's in ear buds' in under 2 years!
My personal experience of Sennheiser has been excellent to say the least.I had a pair of CX300's for over 2 years before they failed, and presently am very satisfied with my CX500's.They are pretty robust and reliable,as were my 300's.
It mustn't be coincidence that my wife regularly uses hers at the Gym.Which leads me to suspect that perspiration(didn't wanna type sweat.....doesn't look nice!) is compromising the units.
With that in mind, can anyone who also worships their temple, recommend a hardy(waterproof?) set of buds.Might also mention I've been footing the bill each time they go!!
Don't want to spend too much hahaha they aint for me!
    Cheers,
    John

  • HT3310 I have plugged in ear buds but sounds doesn't come from ear buds.  How do I toggle soundsto ear buds

how do I get sounds from ear buds?

Have you tried another set of ear buds? You need to make sure the plug is pushed all the way in to engage the jack. Also, cleaning out the jack may be a good idea.

  • For some reason , when i restore my iphone 4s to factory settings my headphones work when listening to music or youtube videos but when i backup my information onto it , it only comes out of one ear bud and i just got a new one from the apple store.

for some reason , when i restore my iphone 4s to factory settings my headphones work when listening to music or youtube videos but when i backup my information onto it , it only comes out of one ear bud and i just got a new one from the apple store. my old iphone 4s audio jack was messed up but i just got a new one with my warranty , can anyone help me please.

It doesn't matter what it is in your backup that's causing the problem because you can not selectively restore things from your backup. It's all or nothing.
Set you phone up as a new device and start over.

  • IPod Shuffle 2nd Gen -- Great design, awful ear buds.

Bought my first iPod. Decided to get the new 2nd gen Shuffle because of the size. 1GB capacity is fine for going out for a run or doing some other short-term activity.
There was great thought in the unit's design -- easy to operate on the street without having looking at the unit. But there seems to have been little thought about the ear buds.
First, the sound quality is not what it should be. Quite mediocre. Doesn't speak well for Apple, as substance doesn't follow form here. The ultimate purpose for this unit is listening to music, and using the ear buds provided is not an ultimate experience. Why Apple doesn't offer better quality buds is hard to understand, since they are 50% of the product. If I had the opportunity to listen to the device first, I probably would not have bought it.
Second, there is no clip to hold the upper end of the ear buds to your shirt. Try taking the buds off to talk to someone or do some other activity that requires unobstructed ears. There's no place for the buds to go or hang from. Stuffing them into your pocket or slinging them over your shoulder is hardly an elegant solution. Don't think anyone from Apple actually tried to use these things on the street. A small clip to hold them to your shirt would have been a sufficient solution. Apple could have easily put a small clip on the slider that keeps the wires untangled.
Looking through the forums, it seems that most iPod customers are resigned to buying third party ear buds to get an acceptable acoustic experience. And Apple seems content with this. Too bad.

  • My ear buds that I bought a few months ago shocked me and no longer work is there warranty on these?

I had my headphones in my 5s when I was running and all the sudden my ears got shocked. I know it was from ESD. Only problem is my headphones no longer work. I just recently bought them like 2 months ago. Shouldnt there be a ground in these headphones? Are my ear buds just bad or did I just get the short end of the stick again?

Most devices are covered by warranty in most Countries
If you headphones are Apple they certainly have a 12 month warranty and if not Apple check the paperwork that came in the box

  • Can't get speakers to work after using ear buds what happened?

I used ear buds once and now I can't get my internal speakers to work. In "system preferences" sound output I can't select internal speakers. it just has "digital out"

No, but I thought I saw it at an earlier time and of course with the headphones connected I can hear audio. By the way, thanks for replying.

  • My daughter's Nano isn't working correctly with ear buds

I purchased an iPod Nano for my daughter a few months ago, but didn't give it to her until last month (it was her birthday last month). Anyway, for all intents and purposes it is only 1 month old, since it hasn't been used before that time.
Suddenly she is finding that her ear buds are not working properly. If she plugs it in and rotates the connection a little bit, the sound will improve and degrade. This suggests to me that there is something wrong with the iPod Nano; am I correct about that? And if so, what do we do about it?

    Gav_007 wrote:
Have you tried using the iPod Nano with another set of headphones to see if the sound is still degraded? If the sound is still degraded it would mean that the headphone jack of the iPod Nano is defective and you should contact Apple for a repair/replacement. If it is the earbuds then I suggest contacting Apple for a replacement of a pair of earbuds, if you are within the warranty they will repair/replace any defective part.
Yes we have, and they don't work any better than the ear buds that came with the iPod Nano.
So, how do I notify Apple to get a replacement?

  • Problem with ear bud input.

I assume it's a problem with my ear phone input, because i just bought a new pair of earbuds, and its only playing out of one ear bud. Do i need to send it in to get it fixed or what?

If the earbuds work correctly on another device then you have a broken headphone jack and need to send it in for service or take it to the nearest Apple Store.

people have diffence shaped and sized ears
if you don't use the mic and buttons you can use any headset with a 3.5mm minijack connector which is pretty much what all headset since the 1980's use
if you do use the buttons and mic then there are other headsets then the ones that cones with the phone which you can buy
