Cleaning- HELP!

After cleaning a stain from my macbook there is the mark of where I have tried to rub it off ,which isn't coming of. How do I clean this?

Hi emz815,
If the mark is more of surface wear off, then you out of luck since the wear off surface cannot be cleaned anymore.
But if it only a hard to erase smudge you might have luck using apple recommended cleaning solvent.
Good Luck.

hi i just whant to ask should i use memory cleaning and how many time a week and is clearing your event log good because it helps to make my blackberry faster

memory cleaning does not do what most think it does it acts only on empty memory areas wiping them over and over again to get them totally clean it does not function like a PC hard drive defrag for most people memory cleaning slows their system down rather than provide any benifit clearing event logs can be good but how often cannot be stated as "normal" since "normal" depends on the unique circumstances of the individual you must experiement with how frequent works best for you good luck

  • MacBook bottom cleaning HELP??

    Hi,
I have the new MacBook with the rubber bottom. A few days after buying it, I notice it gets very dirty often. Some of the stains just won't go. I need help on how to clean it properly. Anyone know how?

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3226
"The bottom case of the MacBook uses a soft nonslip material. Use a 3M Gray Microfiber or soft dye-free, lint-free cloth to clean the bottom case.
It is safe to use isopropyl alcohol 70% or iKlear on the bottom case. Remove any surface dirt gently with your bare hand before proceeding with a cleaner and cloth. After cleaning, dry the bottom case with a soft, lint-free or micro fiber cloth."
Generally, just apply the same rules as to any other electronic item. Avoid water and avoid paper or cotton to clean it (the mini powder they generate can penetrate the case), use mini-cloth like the ones for glasses. For the product itself it depends if your case is alluminium or plastic but in any AppleStore or Eletronic retailer you'll find specific cleaning products.

  • Diskpart Clean: help

I am installing Windows 8.1 Pro from a USB drive.
I am in the set up tool just past the product key, it then asks simple or advanced install and I selected install.
I enter Shift + f10 to go into the command prompt.
    And I key in:
Select Disk 0 (that is the only disk)
    CLEAN
    CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
    FORMAT FS=NTFS
    ACTIVE
    EXIT
Then I go back to the install setup GUI, and I select Disk 0 and when I click on next, the setup wizard gives me the error message "Cannot locate Partition"
Any idea on what commands I need to perform to prep my disk so that Windows can continue with the install?
    Thank you

    Hi Jwconk,
I did not find anything wrong from your command. Try using following sample.
    Select Disk 0
    Clean
    Create Partition Primary Size=
    Active
    Format fs=ntfs quick
    assign letter=c:
    Exit
    Exit
Try assign letter after active your partition and make sure you run all commands successfully.
If the error still persists I don't think this error is caused by wrong command, try using GUI to create partition on your hard disk for good measure.
There is one possibility that your hard drive may be using a GPT table and you didn't boot your installation CD or USB from EFI mode. If the installation CD boots in the legacy mode, it is not able to handle the GPT table.

  • Javascript alert wiping page clean - HELP

Hi - I am using the javascript alert function in order to tell a user that information entered on a form is incorrect - however, the alert makes the page go away when all I want is to return to that page so the user can correct just that piece of information and resubmit it
Anyone have any ideas on this? I'm scratching my head over this!!
    Thanks!
    Beth

    Hi Savitha,
Yes, you are right, there is difference between alert and confirm. I will pose a small example, I have a page where the user / client must(!!!) enter his name, otherwise I don't allow him to go further (to my next page). Here in Javascript I will check for the name field,
    if(confirm(document.myform.field_name.value)) {
    //submit the form
}. Here user didn't enter anything and clicks on 'OK' in confirm dialog, then I am forced to take him to the next page. So, I don't want to provide that chance to the user and decide it programatically, but prompt the user to enter the name with an alert dialog.
    Hope I am clear.
    PS:-
    I have shown a sample statement in the form of document.myform.field_name.length==0;
'You can do all your validations there', is what my point here.

Anyone have the problem I'm having with the Safari collecting cookies even when I'm not on a website?  I cleaned everything out and checked several times.  Each time cookies were added that I've never seen with my older version of Safari.  I have the block third parties and advertisers but I don't think it works.  Here's a sample of what is popping up:  247realmedia.com, 2mdn.net addthis.com, admeld.com, adsafeprotected.com, adsonar.com, bit.ly, bluekai.com, bluelithium.com, bluetoad.com bondware.com.......... over 100 things without a clue where they are coming from.  Especially since I'm not on any webpage!  How do I report a bug?  Is there a way to fix this?

HTML 5 has introduced a whole new range of tracking ability, you can search for the details online.
Flash cookie, everycookie, HTML cookies. Google has trackers all over the internet, they record your computer info and all your searches, ISP's record all your IP traffic and keep it for a year, cell carriers track your location via tower and signal triangulation (even non-GPS/smartphones) and keep the results for 6 months and both turn over everything to governments. In fact Uncle Sammy has NSA backrooms on the Internet backbone capturing the traffic in real time.

You can't win, the government, advertisers, social sites, search engines and devices makers are all in cohoots to profile everyone.
Live off the grid and have your freedom or tell everyone your business and let them mold you, there is no "in between", try as you may they just come up with new stuff to watch you, through your web cam, via the hidden microphone and even can turn on some cell phones microphones too.
You may be paranoid, so is the government, and they got more money, power and resources at their disposal to act on it.
Erase the whole hard drive and reinstall, if you can't do that, trash the entire machine and go read a book.

  • Blotch on the printing drum of Select 360

I recently installed a new toner cartridge in my Select 360 Laserwriter. An ink blotch is showing up, mid-page, every inch and a half. I have gone ahead and printed out pages, hoping the blotch would come off on the print pages, but it persists after 100 pages.
Cartridge instructions warn against opening the flap or handling the drum. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Jim,
When you replace a toner cartridge, you also need to vaccum out the printer. Some toner has fallen into the printer rollers and is being picked up by the paper.
The inch and a half measurement tells you which roller it is because they use rollers of a different circumference in different locations of the printer so a technician can tell which roller needs to be cleaned.
I am not at the computer that has those measurements but I can look them up. You can also check "fixyourowncomputer.com" for additional cleaning help.
I would start with a vaccum and a soft felt pad. Good luck.

  • Tried to rip a CD with adhesive label - am I doomed?

I've successfully ripped a few hundred CDs on my Mini. Then yesterday, it came to a complete stop while ripping one. When I ejected it, I realized the artwork on top was on a thin sticky label, not printed directly on the CD. A sinking feeling began.
Since then, if I try to rip a CD it accelerates up to "that jet engine noise" (you know what I mean) and starts to rip... then stalls after a few seconds, stalls, stalls, spins down, spins back up and makes a little progress... The track is eventually ripped, but it's at the equivalent of 2x, and the machine tends to freeze while the rip is stalling, so that's no good.
I tried a CD lens cleaner (that friends of mine had used in slot drives without trouble) and it worked great for the next two discs I ripped, then went back to its former failure mode.
The Mini is out of warranty. Have I gunked the drive irrevocably? How expensive a fix would this be? Can iTunes rip from an external CD drive at the same speed as the internal drive (10-20x)?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
It sounds like your sticky-labeled CD has left enough gunk behind that it has damaged the drive. The fact a lens cleaner helps the situation briefly, but the drive then reverts to it's poor state, suggests that further use of the lens cleaner is inadvisable (they can do more harm than good) so either the drive needs to be opened up and cleaned (a job for an approved service provider if you are not feeling very competent at computer repair yourself) or the internal drive ignored, and an external added.
The later option would be my choice in this situation, I think, particularly since good external drives are not expensive and perform rather better and more reliably than the internal slot load models Apple uses.
Have a look at http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/optical-drives/ for some reasonable options for an external drive which will work with your mini and provide good speed performance.
If you want to replace the internal, that is also possible (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/mac-mini/superdrive/ for examples) though you would have to add a service cost for the work to be done if you don't feel up to doing it yourself.

  • Losing ram while editing with FCP7?

I have a Mac Pro dual 2.8, latest Mavericks, and FCP7.  While I'm editing my ram goes from 12 gbs down to megabites over time so that I have to close FCP and restart to recover the ram.  I have a total of 16 GBs to start with.  Memory Clean helps a bit, and also shows that most of the ram goes to the file cache.  Is there a way to manually purge the file cache?  Do I have a "memory leak"?  Is it just the combination of FCP and Mavericks?  I never had such problems with 10.5 - 10.8 OS.

Try shutting everything down, boot from cold and only run FCP.
    Does the same thing happen?

  • Could a SMC or PRAM Reset Affect a Superdrive's CD and DVD Read/Write?

Hi. Would a SMC or PRAM reset make the Superdrive read CD and DVDs better (it mounts CD-RWs and DVD+RWs which is usually labels as untitled DVD but it can't seem to mount original disks that are in good condition like: Snow Leopard DVDs that came with this iMac, Grand Theft Auto IV, Spellforce 2: Shadow Wars)? Or SMS and PRAM resets are not related to Superdrive?
    Thank you in advance.
    God bless.

The SMCreset does affect the superdrive but your condidion may be from dust/dirt in the DVD on the lens system. Mine is real sensitive to dirt and smudges on the actual DVD but occasional lens cleaning helps. You can get DVD lens cleaners (with the tiny brushes on the disk) from most vendors that carry the media.

  • IMac freezes. Is it overheating?

I have an iMac that I purchased on Jan. 18, 2009. On the receipt, it says that it is an iMac 20/2.6/2GB/320/SD. The part number is MB324LL/A. For several months the screen has been freezing randomly and the only way I can shut down the computer is by holding down the Power Button for 5 seconds. On reboot, there doesn't seem to be a problem. My son put his hand on top of the iMac and said he thought it was running too hot. He's a PC guy, BTW. He says I should have a utility to monitor internal temperatures. Even if I did, I wouldn't work on it myself. What's strange is that I don't even hear a fan running inside the 'puter. I don't ever remember a fan sound.
Wow! I just put my ear up to the long slit at the top rear of the iMac, and I hear a fan! First time in over 3 years! And there is quite warm air coming mostly out of the left (facing the computer screen) side of the slit. The fan noise seems to be coming mostly out of the right side of the slit. I don't really know if the computer is overheating. The hottest place is the top left of the case, and putting my hand on it isn't uncomfortable.
Does anyone have any ideas about the freezing problem? Many thanks in advance.
    Ken
P.S. There is a good chance the inside of the 'puter has a lot of dust in it. I'm not a good housekeeper and this is a very high particulate pollution area.

    Hi Ken
It doesn't hurt to use something like the iStat Pro widget or Temperature Monitor to get a feel for just how warm it is really running and to ensure that all three fans are working.
It is also a good idea to check and clean your air intakes (the bottom grill work and small vent behind the stand) regularly, plus to see if that helps your current problem.
    1. Shutdown and disconnect everything including the power cable.
    2. Lay the iMac face down on a soft cloth or towel.
    3. Run get the vacuum cleaner, one with a small brush or cravas tool.
    4. Vigorously vacuum out the bottom grill work and vent behind the stand.
    5. You may also want to remove the center RAM cover and give that a good vacuuming out as well.
Then recheck your temperatures again under normal usage to see if a good cleaning helped to lower your temp's and/or eliminate your freezing problem.
