Cleaning iMac flat screen

Does somebody know how can i clean my monitor? It seems so delicate I'm afraid to damage it by using an almost dry cloth. is there any special product to clean it? Thanks in advance, my 21" iMac is looking wird with the dirty stains on it.

Apple has an article on this

Just take a soft cloth, dampen it with water and wipe it down. I do this and it works fine, no problems so far.

Hi, I was given an iMac Flat Screen over the weekend, it turned on ok, this morning when i turned it on there is a circle with a flashing ?, what does this mean, help!

It means that it cannot locate the operating system.
You need to reinstall from the disks that came with the iMac and which the vendor is required to give you.

  • Connecting problems imac flat screen to external monitor

My imac flat panel screen is dark, tried hooking up exterior monitor with proper adapter and exterior monitor says in power save mode press any key or move mouse but still no picture?

Sounds ominous. When an external display fails to show up anything, that usually indicates that the video hardware on the logic board has failed. Were ony the display or its cabling at fault but the logic board hardware was working, the external should still show something.

  • What is best to wash/clean iMac glass screen cover?

I have used Glass Cleaner to clean smudges/finger prints off my iMac glass screen cover.  I keep getting swipe marks instead of a sparkeling clean screen.  Anybody have a better product?

Water only applied to a damp cloth per your owner's manual:
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1662/en_US/imac_late2013_ipig.pdf
(I use a micro-fiber cloth slightly dampened with water on my iMac with streak-free results)

  • Swap 15" iMac flat screen monitor for 17" one?

My mom has 2 older G4 iMacs, the one with the hemispherical base. One of them has a 15" monitor (that's the one that works); the other iMac has a 17" monitor, but the power supply on that one is dead.
Can we swap out the 15" monitor for the 17" one? Any links for how to do that?
    Thanks,

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I'm fairly sure the part numbers are different for the PSUs on these two iMacs. Could you let us know the processor speed against screen size for each one so we can check that out? ( menu > About this Mac)

  • HT2404 I am getting notices from web sites that they won't support Safari 4.1.3 much longer, but I'm having trouble finding a version of Safari that will work with Mac OS 10.4.11. I have a n iMac flat screen "lampshade" and still love it.

Help welcomed. How can I upgrade Safari without upgrading to OS 10.5?

Safari let's you change your identity ( user agent string ) to anything. This is what the server thinks you are running.  Want to be run Windows 7 IE8? No problem.

  • IMac 15in flat screen appears darker or dimmer than ever before

In the last week, I have sensed a noticeable difference in my iMac flat screen brightness. It is as though my eyes are getting older, and the screen itself is dimming. While the former might be true, the flat screen is obviously experiencing something I cannot understand or fix. Any ideas?

  • Flat Screen imac iMac won't boot up, will not boot from DVD

My 24" imac flat screen will not boot. I only get a blank gray/white screen. Reset the PRAM and tried to boot from the DVD. I held the C key down when I powered on but the system will not boot from the DVD. If I wait long enough, the DVD will eventually be ejected. I have had HD issues and Disk Warrior indicated that the drive was damaged. Will a dead hard drive cause the system to not boot from the DVD? Is there any way to get the system to boot from my DVD?

    Hello PMcDer,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
By what you are describing you're correct in believing your drive is probably gone. The sad news... if Disk utility can no longer see the drive, your ability to retrieve any data off of it is getting slim.
There are a couple of options for data retrieval.
    1. If you still have Apple Care have them fix it. But make sure they know that you do not have a backup.
    2. If you do not have Apple Care, have an Authorized Apple Tech replace the drive and make sure that they will give you back the old drive. This may prove to be a challenge. Or you can replace the drive yourself. It is not easy for some but take your time and you'll have no problems. Lots of youtube videos on this as well as on-line tutorials.
    3. You could try a Hard Disk Utility program like Disk Warrior to see if it can help, but it's not free.
    4. You could pay someone big bucks for Data recovery in order to get the data of the drive for you.
If you decided to do the HDD swap yourself. You could purchase a 3.5" firewire enclosure that you could put your old drive into once you do the swap. Plug it into the iMac and prey that it recognizes it. Then "MAYBE" you could copy the data over to the new drive, but that is a stretch.

Not sure that I have selected the correct forum.  Hope my questions are clearly stated.
Having problems connecting iMac(late 2006) running 10.7.5 to a Samsung Flat Screen TV using separate audio/speaker cable and HDMI standard cable, mini-DVI to HDMI video converter.  TV displays generic Apple galaxy background and "some" windows (e.g. screen resolution choices).   It does not show Mail or Safari menus.  System preferences'  display "gathered" the Samsung and chose its resolution.  I did not find a way to select the Samsung as my display.
In addition to having old hardware, we have Verizon FIOS providing internet and TV access.  Is there any way to make this work for us?  We would like to stream video (Netflix) and view shows from the Web.  Do we need Apple TV to do this?  Or is it not possible with our old iMac?  My husband thinks that our Airport could be a factor.
    Thank you

Lately, I have been seeing a lot of posts with users trying to use their Macs/iMacs to mirror their streaming video from their Macs to an HDTV.
There are, actually, many alternatives to choose from than just from a Mac.
You need to have or invest in a WiFi capable router for all of these examples.
Apple TV only integrates with WiFi and newer Mac hardware. So, if you want to have total integrated experience, if you have a 2011 Mac or newer, you might as well pay the $100 for the AppleTV box.
If you have a older Mac, like I have noticed many users do, then you have other options.
If you want to elimate long cable clutter and having your Mac at the mercy of your TV all of the time,  you can still use the AppleTV box independently or purchase cheaper alternative media streaming boxes from Roku, Sony, Boxee or any number of electronics manufacturers that now have media streaming boxes and media streaming capability built into DVD/Blu-ray players.
These eliminate long cable clutter by being close to the HDTV where shorter, less expensive cables can be used.
Another alternative for iPad users is to use an iPad with the USB/HDMI video adapter and use your iPad as the streaming box. This ties up your iPad in much the same way as it does with your Mac, but again the iPad can be close to the TV and use minimal cables to the TV.
Another alternative to is to use a combination of an iPad and your Mac to stream content that is only available to stream online from a computer. In this case, you can use a desktop remote app on your iPad and Mac. A good and cheap Desktop Remote app is Splashtop Remote. This allows you to completely connect your iPad remotely, over Wifi, to your iMac desktop. The app streams both video and sound to the iPad which is still connected to your HDTV. The resultant stream video picture will be smaller than the size of your HDTV, but it will still be plenty large enough to watch. Again, if you own a iPad and an Intel Mac, this method also allows minimal cabling to the TV.

I have two Macs, an i-Mac flat screen that runs on OSX.4.11 and i-tunes 9 and a MacBook Intel Duo that runs on Snow Leopard and i-tunes 10.  I have carefully followed all the Advanced instructions for sharing music libraries, which is not a problem; however I am unable to transfer following the instructions to drag the music I want from t he i-Mac flat screen library onto the MacBook. Help! Please! Also, my new Nano will not accept i-tunes 9 which is where I have my old i-pod contents stored--the old i-pod died.  Many thanks!

UPDATE: I disconnected the iPhone, restarted it, and tried again to sync it with the iTunes library on the iMac. This time it worked
Now I'm going to try to transfer the music into the iTunes library on the PowerBook, then sync with that, delete the library on the iMac, and sync the (hopefully full of all my music) iPhone with the iMac again.

  • Urgent - iMac G4 Flat Panel - Is Adding Monitor or Flat Screen TV Possible?

    Hello,
As a present to my husband (mac guru) I would like to know if with his iMac Flat Panel G4, is it better to buy a 28 inch samsung computer monitor (flat panel) that he can also hook up his mac to or a kind of flat screen/panel LCD TV. The guys at futureshop and bestbuy seem to be "confused" when talking about macs and not pcs. With the computer monitor, there seems to be questions on if we'll be able to hook up our satellite tv... and with the tvs, there seems to be confusion on if we can hook up the computer. One of the reasons I want to hook the computer directly is my husband has had problems converting (burning to DVD) some videos with music background from iPhoto without doing a software update which requires us to change the timing with the audio and video in our already created slideshows. Please help quickly as some sales finish tomorrow. I need to know what to tell the store... i.e. what kind of jack or cables or capability I am looking for. Do I ask for USB port, coaxil input or what? Thanks in advance,
    Karen

Yes you can connect a display or monitor but exactly which ones depends on which iMac G4 you have.
All iMac G4s have a Mini VGA port this will allow you to connect any standard PC Monitor (with a VGA connector) and mirror the iMac's internal display only. The later iMac G4's also allow the connection of S-Video and Composite Video devices (most TV's have this type of input) which allows you to mirror the display on to the TV.
The MiniVGA to VGA and Mini VGA to S-Video/Composite adaptors are for sale online in the Apple Store ($19US/£15) or here.
If you wanted to extend the screen size again it is possible on some iMacs but requires a firmware hack that will invalidate your warranty.
I can't understand how having an external display will solve the burning to DVD issues though.....
Post back with your Screen size and processor speed for exact info - or read this recent post

  • Which Airport card do I need for an iMac G4 Flat Screen 15"?

Hi, I have an iMac G4 (flat screen, with silver arm and round base), 15".
I'd be extremely grateful if someone could let me know which Airport card I need for this Mac and also whether or not I also require an adaptor. I have looked this up on the Apple site and also in 'The Flatscreen iMac for Dummies' book (I'm a complete technophobe, I'm afraid!), but am none the wiser.
If possible, model numbers for the Airport card and adaptor that I do need would be much appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Jeremy

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and click on More Info, or if you're running Mac OS 9, choose Apple System Profiler from the Apple menu. Check the speed of the computer's CPU; if it is below 1GHz, you need the regular AirPort card, with the AirPort Extreme card being used on newer iMacs. No iMac G4 requires an adaptor to use an AirPort card.

  • How do i clean fingerprints off my iMac 27" screen?

I have the 27" late 2012 model iMac and was wondering how to clean fingerprints off the screen. While my family does a videochat we kinda move the scrrenup, down, left or right to view the whole room and nov there are fingerprints on the screen. If i clean them the screen becomes even worse.I cant buy anything too expensive.
    Thanks,
    smatef

I have a similar problem though I have the 21.5", in my case I followed the cleaning directions exactly (except in a few cases where I got some of the cleaning fluid on the display, old habit I guess as that's what the instructions on the cleaner I occasionally use says).
Anyway, even when I follow the directions exactly I am left with smear marks on the glass that can take at least a fortnight to completely eradicate. Regardless of whether I am using water or an LCD cleaning solution.
Something about the newer anti-glare coating is preventing proper cleaning of the display!
Is there a workaround solution, an officially licensed cleaning solution designed for the new coating, or am I doomed to take weeks to clean my screen each time?
I didn't have this problem with my early 2006 iMac 17", with that one I could use the cleaning solution and a quick wipe with both sides of the provided cloth and the screen was like new.

  • RE:  Hooking up my flat screen to my imac that was released in April of 08

Can I hook up my iMAC (released in april of 08) to my flat screen and then use the imac to get movies, etc. from netflix?

You will need to connect both the Mini-DVI port connector AND the Audio in/optical digital audio
in port to your TV. The type of video cables you will need depends on the connection you want on your TV. If you use a HDMI connection on your TV then you will need a Mini-DVI to HDMI connector, if you use DVI then Mini-DVI to DVI connector. The audio cable will be one like this sample from Amazon.

  • Can I replace the power module in my iMac G4 17" Flat Screen computer?

My iMac G4 17" Flat Screen will no longer power up. It has been getting slower and slower the longer it was running until finally I have no power at all.
Can I replace the power module, where do I get one, how much do they cost and how big a job is it to swap it out?
Any help, or information that you can give me will be greatly appreciated.
