Cleaning macbook/keyboard??

I have an 18 month old white macbook, and where i rest my hands is prettttty grey. i also have the cracked casing issue, but since i'm out of warranty i know that won't be fixed anymore..
but my question is,
how do i clean the grey spots on my white macbook? it's mostly where i rest my hands to type.
also, how do you clean the keyboard? my keyboard is not the kind that just pops out, so is there even a way? i hate having a grey macbook when i bought a white one!

A couple weeks ago a woman brought in her year old white MacBook for a memory upgrade and as I was installing it I thought to myself, "Where's the peppermint smell coming from?" As I was taking the computer back out to her I heard her say to another customer, "No, really. When my palm rest gets grungy I use an old toothbrush and toothpaste. Get's it clean in a jiffy!" Ah, that explained the minty fresh MacBook. Me, I use a Mr Clean Eraser.

What would be the best way to clean/sanitize the keys to my keyboard. I had a nasty case of strep throat and I want to make sure that the keys are not infected.

You will not get re-infected as your body has built up its immune system to counter it.
As for cleaning your keyboard i would do nothing other than wiping it with a lightly moistened cloth.
Also wash your hands before and after using your Macbook if you are that concerned about hygiene.

Cleaning MacBook Pro Keyboard

So, I just got my MBP about a week ago, and a few of my keys on my keyboard have oil marks from typing. I tried removing them with the cloth apple gives with the computer, but some just won't come off.
What's the best way to clean the keyboard? and how do I get these specific oil marks from my fingers, off?

Help - My macbook keyboard doesn't work after being sprayed with windex.

My mom cleaned my keyboard with windex. I'm assuming that this short-circuited something or other so the keyboard isn't being processed. Anyways, I let it dry out for a day and some of the keys work now, but the macbook randomly shuts off.
Should I let it dry off for a little longer?
Do I need to replace the sheet underneath the keyboard?
What should I do?

I have a new TX2 1300 also and i have the same exact problem. When I use the touchsmart program in laptop mode - no issues with the keyboard. BUT if I use the Touchsmart program while rotated in tablet mode - the keyboard turns off and is not usable until I reboot my laptop. Very repeatable. I also verified I have the latest BIOS. After I read your post yesterday I called the HP support and they were not able to reproduce the issue on their lab compter (a TX2Z 1000 - NOT a TX2Z 1300). I updated my bios with the tech on the phone just to pacify them - and I still have the issue. The tech then checked her database and amazingly enough HP knows of this issue and is working on a patch for the Touchsmart program. They are going to email me when the patch is ready.
I have another issue - and I am curious if you see it too. My screen goes out of calibration constantly. Basically I lose the touch sensitivity right around the WIndows start button on the lower right part of my screen. Affects both capacitive (finger) and digital (pen). I have to run the reset progam in the NTRIG Touch Tuning utility in the windows control panel to get that part of my screen to become responsive again. Very disapointing - have you seen any issues with the touch screen sensitivity on any parts of the screen ?

i know that there is some special products like iKlear, but i am in Macedonia... and i dont have time to wait the product ... is there some rules while cleaning your macbook retina 15 inch (like using vacuum cleaner for keyboard and openings form bottom and ports,... ) ?

none of what you mentioned - use a damp micro fibre cloth to wipe your macbook retina.
make sure it's damp and not wet.
using a wet cloth can cause some drips between the keys that might create an issue - so make sure it's just damp.

Cleaning MacBook Pro Following Liquid Spill

Hi,
I managed to spill some green tea on my MacBook last week. I powered off, drained it immediately, and placed it in a bag of rice for two+ days. It is now working, but the keys are quite sticky when I type. Wondering if I should use rubbing alcohol or electrical contact cleaner around them to remove some of the residue? The logic board in the top left-hand corner (near the escape key) also has some visible residue, but all other areas appear unaffected. Any suggestions for safely and effectively removing this gunk?

No, I wouldn't do that. You can remove the keys individually (there's a how-video on YouTube, not on my MacBook right now so I can't link you but search for 'cleaning MacBook Pro keyboard' or something). Then you can wipe them off with water for instance. Might help getting rid of the stickiness...

Broken macbook keyboard

i was recently giving a mid 2007 black macbook and wanted to sell it, however the arrow keys on the bottom right side dont work, and getting it fixed is to expensive, ive replaced a macbook keyboard before, but i was certain it was the correct keyboard. Ive come accross a nice keyboard but it doesnt seem to be exactly matching the keys on my currently keyboard (volume button in different places, itunes play buttons added). could i still have clean repair even with a different looking keyboard?

A Late-2007 black (or white) MacBook 3.1 can use a bit more
RAM than a Mid-2007 black MacBook 2.1 that tops at 3GB...

There really isn't any workaround to the cost. You can't get the parts needed to fix it yourself. Only Apple has those parts and they do not sell them to end users.
Sure you could take it apart and clean everything and the screen might start working again but then it might not. Depending on what cause it to stop working in the first place. Like something got shorted out.

For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. Drive Genius provides additional tools not found in Disk Warrior. Versions 1.5.1 and later are Intel Mac compatible. An outstanding source of information is OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.)
If you are using a pre-Leopard version of OS X, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep. Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger. (These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard, Lion, or Mountain Lion and should not be installed.)
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line. Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. (There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion or later.)
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):

4. SuperDuper!
5. SyncTwoFolders
6. Synk Pro
7. Synk Standard
8. Tri-Backup

Macbook keyboard issues help please.

I have a issue with my macbook keyboard. As sometimes it will miss out on the first letter that i type and i hate it doing that. I have applied the update that was suppose to fix this problem but it still does this occasionally.
Do any of you have suggestions, do i have uninstall the keyboard update then re-apply it again if so how do you do it.
I just got this machine back from being repaired and i do not want to take it back to be repaired. It took them weeks to fix it and they lost the macbook, then found it a few days later and they are a nightmare, they only started to fix the problem 2 weeks after i brought it in and that was only because i kept calling them.
