Cleaning Macbook pro 2010 keyboard, soda spill 2 years ago.
Hey guys. So around two years ago my kid spilled soda on my Macbook Pro 2010 model, and I never bothered cleaning it since I wasn't using it much. Now it's 2 years later and I'm using it often and it's all spongy and sticky, the Macbook still works perfectly fine and all the keys work okay it's just sticky. Can anyone recommend a method of cleaning them? Thanks a lot.
The keys on these Macs are comprised of 5 or 6 moving parts: the black cap that has the extruded letter or symbol, a translucent body that has a number of snaps, a two-piece scissors mechanism made of white plastic, a silicone rubber "cup" and in some, a stainless steel wire guide. All snap together onto the body and onto metal guides on the printed circuit on the Mac itself. around the microswitch that's nestled inside the rubber "cup". That cup's springiness is what pushes the key back out. Awhile back, one "leg" on the scissor of my left Caps Lock broke off and the key proceeded to pop like a Mexican Jumping Bean. Apple said it was "cosmetic damage", "not covered by warranty" and they would kindly repair it after I plopped $800 and waited while they replaced the entire top case (whole chassis, including keyboard and trackpad), for ONE FRIGGIN KEY. Needless to say, I purchased a collection of keys (5 for the price of 4; needed 1, but I'm sure another eventually will die and wanted to make the cost of the product bigger than the cost of shipping!) from replacementlaptopkeys.com, watched a couple of YouTube videos (like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TawSCmb08tM&feature=g-hist ) and got the Mac back in working order 15 minutes after the postman showed up and I feverishly tore the envelope open.
So I can tell you with full confidence that the only way to get that clean is by lifting the caps. Yeah, that will make the AppleCare guys most unhappy. And yeah, I'm sure more than one of the keycaps will get damaged in the process and require replacement. At $4.95 a pop, with discounts if you break many, just make sure to order the correct type; my Late '11 MBP has type AC01.

My very expensive 2010 MacBook Pro hard drive died over a year ago. I finally synced my iPhone to the replacement laptop pc and it wiped out all the music on the phone including most of the purchases. Can I get the music back (restore didn't help)?
Okay, I finally got the couple of songs left on the phone to play by uninstalling and reinstalling itunes on the pc and re syncing. The last version I installed (just prior to my original post) failed to start due to some unspecified error?!?. Great!. But I still couldn't sync the itunes purchases from the PC to the iPhone. Then, after about an hour of googling and reading assorted posts mostly about using google to resolve the issue, I finally figured out that I have to actually download ALL the purchased albums from iCloud back onto the iPhone! There are hundreds of them, and some are not even available anymore.
Why do I have to do that when I originally purchased and downloaded all the music to the phone? Why are they all on the PC to begin with and why won't they go to the phone via the USB cable? Why didn't all the music get wiped out on the phone when I synced with the dodgy itunes I had to uninstall. never mind.
I accept that all my original music from cds and shared collections is gone on the failed mbp hard drive, but how come this once okay experience has become a trauma? Hundreds of songs to download all over again, sheesh, this has not exactlybeen a "That Was Easy" experience guys. -
I have a MacBook Pro that I bought almost a year ago, next day problems with the hard disc that could not be diagnosed by the service, after 3 months they realized it and changed it with a new one, after 3-4 months heated and shut down by itself and dont work anymore. From apple say even a year has not passed it is not under garancy and I should pay to fix it without ans issue.

hey guys ive got issues with my macbook pro that i bought not a year ago, and for the last week its just randomly restarting especially when im watching a video or using finalcut pro x can someone help me?
What do you mean "Leave them my laptop again"? do you mean you have had it worked on before? for the same problem or a different one?
You need to take it in to Apple ASAP. No matter how long they have it, you want it fixed and fixed correctly.

Cleaning MacBook Pro Following Liquid Spill
Hi,
I managed to spill some green tea on my MacBook last week. I powered off, drained it immediately, and placed it in a bag of rice for two+ days. It is now working, but the keys are quite sticky when I type. Wondering if I should use rubbing alcohol or electrical contact cleaner around them to remove some of the residue? The logic board in the top left-hand corner (near the escape key) also has some visible residue, but all other areas appear unaffected. Any suggestions for safely and effectively removing this gunk?
Thanks! No, I wouldn't do that. You can remove the keys individually (there's a how-video on YouTube, not on my MacBook right now so I can't link you but search for 'cleaning MacBook Pro keyboard' or something). Then you can wipe them off with water for instance. Might help getting rid of the stickiness...

Macbook Pro 2010 Model Keyboard Issue - Middle keys not working
Hi.
I have a Macbook Pro 2010 model, for no other reason other than my cat sitting on it (tiny cat, very dry...) the middle row of keys (A,S,D,F,G,H,J,K,L) all stopped working, CAPS still works, as well as : ; " ' and the enter/return key.
I've done nearly everything I can think of, reset everything, reinstalled OS X... Other than pulling the thing apart.
Any suggestions or ideas of how I might fix this cheaply? Or what the problem may be?Hello AJTheGamer
Check with the Keyboard Viewer to make sure no other keys are being pushed down to prevent it from the keys that you are typing to be registered. Another thing you can check is to try and create a new user to see if the issue carries across the system as a whole.
One or more keys on the keyboard do not respond

Macbook pro 2010 (mid) not working
Hey everyone,
My macbook pro 2010 mid does not turn on anymore because I spilled a drink all over the keyboard and I do not want to pay to repair it. In addition, it also had display problems as well like white and black screens. I tried using the "Power On" program for apple and it says that my laptop is not worth anything but I am able to recycle it for free... I was wondering if my macbook pro is still worth something since I have the battery and memory in it stillLooks like that the speaker may be blown.
Have you checked the Audio MIDI setup?
Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
Audio Devices window
Side Bar
Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it. -

My MacBook Pro 2010 won't update from 10.6.8 to 10.9
Recently I tried updating my MacBook Pro 2010 13 inch from osx 10.6.8 to osx 10.9.
On the mavericks installer my hard drive is greyed out and when I try to click on it to install mavericks it just says "you cannot install osx to this harddrive". My specs are 4 GB of ram, 2.4ghz processor, 250 GB harddrive with 249 GB of free spaces.
Please help! How is the drive formatted and what is the Partition Table set to. If you have a format of "Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Case sensitive" or the Partition Table is set to anything other than GUID that might be the reason Mavericks won't install. Not really sure but check that out.
Other than that you could backup you Mac with time machine, wipe the drive, actually repartition it with a format of Mac OS Extended (Journaled) [NO Case Sensitive] and a partition table of GUID and do a clean install of Snow Leopard, Update that to 10.6.8 then upgrade to Mavericks use Migration assistant to restore your files setting and apps. -
Slow shutdown on macbook pro 2010 ssd
My ssd macbook pro 2010 13 inch takes 20 sec for shutdown and around 25 for booting up. I have tried clean my mac, onyx etc but with no improvements. All software are updated and I am only using 90 GB out of 128 GB. All apps are closed prior shutdown. As a side note, my girlfriends early 2008 macbook pro shuts down within 5 sec with a regular HD

Kernal Panic Help with Macbook Pro 2010
Hello fellow Kernal Panic enthusiasts.
I've had random panics more frequently on a Macbook Pro 2010. I've tried correcting permissions, resetting PRAM etc. It seem to happen at random, sometimes with flash (which has been disabled by default) in Chrome. Other occasions its completely random when using the finder, etc. Chrome crashes frequently, and again at random. Same happens for Firefox and Safari – it seems to be whichever I am using most frequently There's no way to repeat the panic.
Thank you for the help/suggestions in advance.
Here's a copy of my log:

Pace is a copy protection software for some third party program your running, it's for Snow Leopard and this issue has appeared here before and once today even.
Quark Inc was here about their driver, so check them for a update.
Take note of the softwares above, your going to be reinstalling some of them from fresh sources and updating.
Run through the Steps 1-8 here and see if that solves your problem.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Disable all at login/boot softwares.
Yes some third party software mentioned above is not going to work as #8 Reinstall Just OS X will kick their parts out of OS X itself (but not out of Applications), but what you do is reinstall them one at a time, when it's been updated and verified to work with your OS X verison. (uninstall using the developers program or instructions, do not use AppDelete type software)
Take your time and if problems come back you know it's the last one installed is at fault.
The object with #1-8 is to make sure machine and OS X is fine, then decide from there what third party software is at fault.
If your problems continue despite the above software not being run or installed, then proceed with the further Steps #9-16 in the hunt for the real cause.
Chrome has been known to cause problems around here, it runs a root level updater for all Google software, it's hard to remove and one has to not use any Google software to prevent it being reinstalled.
Good luck in your process of elimination. -
macbook pro 2010 only will turn on if i hold the power button down for atleast 7 seconds.....before i could just press it and it would come right on
I tried those already, did not work.
I did how ever remove the command key and wiped it down and it turns on perfectly!
but now the keyboard keys seem to be out of place or something. For example it makes a "ping" sound when i hit some of them, when i hit function or control it puts the letter Z.
Any input would be great! -
Macbook Pro (2010) Overheating
Hi I've recently been having problems that I haven't seen before on my Macbook Pro (2010). Lately I've been seeing consistant overhating issues while playing games in Windows that I haven't seen before doing the same thing. One situation sees the computer forcing itself going to sleep and another seeing the computer completely lockup and crash, requiring a hard reset.
The computer's fans of course are running at the full 6000 rpm but I'm seeing peaks of 105 degrees celsius in the CPU and 85-90 degrees in the GPU. I'm yet to replicate the crashes while my temperature gauges are running so I will update accordingly.
This computer is still under Applecare warranty so I wanted to get some advice before my next move, will Applecare cover issues like this and is this a credible complaint on the hardware?Actually the temperatures that you quote, though high, are not lethal to your MBP. There are internal temperature sensors in the MBP that will shut down the unit before any damage from heat occurs.
You might do the following: Open the unit up and see if the is any dust or dirt has accumulated, particularly in the fan and the vents. Clean it out with care if that is the case.
When the fans start spinning, open Activity Monitor and select 'All Processes' and set the '% CPU' from high to low to check to see if you may have some application that is causing a problem. Read the attached link:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1473
Run an Apple Hardware Test if that picks up any issues, particularly if there is a bad sensor.
An SMC reset might mitigate the the problem.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If no change, an appointment at the Apple store genius bar for a free diagnosis is the last stop,
Ciao. -
