Cleaning macbook pro screen and aluminum unibody

what should i used to clean the aluminum unibody, when it comes to the lcd screen i know alcohol and other solutions are bad for lcd because of the thin flim layer but the macbook pro has glass so it should'nt hurt the screen to use those kind of products.

Through all my different careers, I have learned it takes an oil to break down an oil. I have had this problem where no matter how clean my hands are, and using isoprophil alchohol or iKlear, it still doesnt remove the oil residue off the keyboard or alluminum unibody. So what i did was dampen a cloth with "gook off", which is an oil or sticky residue remover. This actually made it greasier, but after rubbing my Pro with Gook off and then cleaning off the Gook off with alcohol, the residue was gone! I do this every so often when the keyboard gets shiny or I see oil residue below the keyboard where my palms rest. Rub Gook off using hard pressure, then remove the gook off with alcohol or iKlear, or whatever watered down cleaner you prefer. This is the only method that has worked for me and my school that actually works, leaving my Pro and the student laptops looking brand new. I do not recomend this for the screen because I have not tried it yet and have not needed to try it on the screen. Rub hard!

  • Translucent impromptu possible "hacker" message interrupts current session, locks MacBook Pro screen and demands that I restart by holding down the power button of my LapTop to turn it off first. Any thought? Could this be another way to mess with us?

I was listening to a YouTube video on the history of X15 rocket airplanes. All of sudden, out of the blue a translucent back message drops top down, stops the video, locks up my MacBook Pro screen and demands that I restart my lapTop by first holding down my power switch, then turn the lapTop back on. This has never happened to me before. The message was in black & white, and in about 6 languages: English, French, Spanish, Dutch, Japanese, Chinese. Does any one recognize what this might be?
The Computer turned back on just fine as if nothing had Now I am freeking out that they could be reading my key strokes or something. Could they have used this tactic to install malicious software on my computer by first taking away my ability to do anything about it being that I am not a software engineer? Can any one think of anything simillar? I reported this as a bug to APPLE the regular way, then cleared my Safari cookies, then run software update which returned nothing new as in " your software is up to date at this time."
    Can any one please help?

    Hi stedman1,
Thank you so much. This seems to make sense to me now. I was freaking out a bit that some hacker could be messing with my MacBook Pro. I will be monitoring this issue from now on as it has never happened before.

  • Cleaning MacBook Pro screens

Does anyone know if it is safe to use Kensington's Screen Guardian to clean a MacBook Pro screen? The product contains: Water, 2-Butoxyethanol and Ethanol. Also can this cleaner be used on an iMac and a iPod Touch screens. Thanks for your help.

Apple recommends against using any cleaner with alcohol or ammonia to clean any LCD screen. Those chemicals may damage the screen coating. The best way to clean a laptop screen is to use a microfiber wipe (such as those sold to clean eyeglasses) or a damp ( not wet) soft lint-free cloth. For more information, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3226
Butyl cellusolve, a component of Screen Guardian (according to their material safety data sheet), is neurotoxic among other toxicities, by the way, so I'd avoid it even if it weren't risky on LCDs.
    Regards.

  • How do I resize Photoshop - it's too large for my Macbook Pro screen and I can't get to the resize corners?

Photoshop is too large for my Macbook Pro screen.  I cannot access the resize handles - they're off the screen and I can't drag it.  Any solution?

Do you see the red, yellow, and red window buttons? If so click on the green one.
If you don't see them then you are possibly in full screen mode, and pressing the "F" key once or twice allow you to get back to normal mode.

Hi, Presuming it's a New MBP, take it back and get it repaired under warranty.
If by some strange turn of fate you have an older first gen. MBP with the ATI graphics chip then may be read through and join this Topic: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1697470 You might also want to get on to bennettvonbennett mailing list (subject MBP ATI issues).
If it is a MBP with the ATI X1600 GPU I can recommend "Fan Control" to help with (but not cure) the issue/defect.
For all older MBP1,1 owners... keep talking to Apple... send feed back, join the petition, email Apple PR, if we all go quiet, nothing will happen!

  • Macbook pro screen and reviews

I don't understand it. If the screens are so grainy and badly lit, why are none of the reviewers pointing this out????
All the reviews I have read from magazines and pro sites, have never given bad marks to the screen. I have gone to the local Apple store and the screens look great.
I know there must be something to it cause there are so many complaints but I don't understand why the reviewers have not seen it.

There is a question of what you expect from a screen & how critical it is to your use of the computer. If my new MacBook Pro 17" was for internet browsing, reviewing company reports, spreadsheets, etc., I'd love the display: It's bright & sharp & like everything else about the machine it seems fantastic. When I showed it to my girlfriend & said I wasn't sure if I should keep it (worried that a replacement would be worse), she said it looked fine. So I filled the screen with white; then it was obvious - the top of the screen was white, the bottom was brilliant white, the middle grey & the edges dark grey...
As a photographer, this makes it very difficult to use the MacBookPro. For example, a client wanting an object shot on a white background won't be very impressed when they see the image come up with a white background fading to grey. I had hoped to use Aperture with it, but that just puts the thumbnails right in the transition from the very bright white at the bottom of the screen to the dull middle area.... not good.
I don't expect the MBP display to rival a top quality LCD screen aimed at pro users, that would be unrealistic - I'd just like it to equal the performance of the PowerBooks; I've worked with many of them and I've never seen one with a screen as bad as my MBP.

  • Macbook Pro screen and keyboard lights problems

Hi there, I have a macbook pro 15'' late 2011. Lately I realised that the screen does not dim when in a dark room and the keyboard lights do not work either. The keyboard keys work for dimming and lighting the screen, but it does not happen automatically. As for the keyboard lights, pressing the F5 and F6 buttons brings up the image of keyboard lights and they seem to be increasing and decreasing, but in fact nothing happens and the keyboard remains without any lights.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro forum. This is the forum for the 13” white and black plastic MacBooks without lighted keyboards that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • Macbook Pro Screen and Graphics Problems

I just bought a macbook pro 15" 2.53 GHz model today. I haven't even had it 12 hours and am having problems. First when I tried the screen saver it messes up, adds big squares where there aren't supposed to be any. So I just tried playing The Sims 3 to test the graphics and that played fine. Now as I am typing this the screen keeps flashing blue. Either making it seem like everything is being highlighted or going all blue for a split second.
    What is going on?
I'm going back to the Apple Store tomorrow, this is not okay.

Make sure to make an appointment if you want to be seen fairly quickly. They should be able to swap you out for a new one right away.

  • Macbook pro screen and case problems

    I have a 2ghz macbook pro 15in.
I have noticed dark spots and then little lines that i would call scratches on the screen. I have applecare till next year in April so i am under applecare but i am wondering if this is covered.
I have a dented case though its dented right on the power supply port. And on the right side of the screen the case is cracked at the bottom just about an inch up fron the corner.
Is this crack covered or will they say its from the drop that caused the dent?
I have noticed that my case in the front pops up on either side and when looking close i noticed that on one side the screw is gone and the place the screw goes into is not there.
Now when it fell it did not fall far and it was on carpet. But niether the case or screen turned like this untill just recently.
    any ideas?

The only way to find out will be to ask. As you know, Apple doesn't cover damage. A trained technician should be able to distinguish between what the fall may have done and something which is a factory defect. The crack is pretty far from the dent, but it's hard to say what someone might think. And I don't know what they would say about the missing screw or what it might have affected. But you should be able to get the screw replaced.
Check and see if your homeowner's policy would cover accidental damage. Or possibly your credit card company if you paid with one. If so, let Apple fix the damage. It's possible that if they decide the crack is unrelated to the fall, they will cover it. If you wait until Applecare is over, you know they won't cover anything. At least ask--you really have nothing to lose. At worst, they'll say no.
    Good luck!

  • Macbook pro screen and keyboard light turns off

    Hello everyone,
I have an issue with my macbook pro, if im sitting at a table and i glide my laptop slightly my screen and keyboard light goes off and i cant see anything.
I have to turn it left or right to try and get it back on.....same thing if i close my computer and reopen it again it wont wake up from sleep mode.
anyone else having a similer issue? is this software related?

That seems like a loose or failing cable.
You could try a SMC reset:  http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964  to elimate the controller.
    Genius reservation http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/
    check warranty https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
You could try running the Apple HArdware Test, not always definitive however.  If it shows an error code report back.

  • Help With Increasing Storage: MacBook Pro (Summer 2009) Aluminum Unibody

Can anyone recommend an online store and a certain product that will provide me with the means to increase the disk space of my hard drive? I bought this MacBook with 160GB and would like to increase it by at least 50GB or so (although if they only come in sets of 160GB or something, so be it). I would also like the links to any blogs or video tutorials explaining how to implement the new storage on my own, as the Apple Store recommends we do it on our own.
    Thanks.

You cannot simply increase the storage space of an existing drive, but you can replace it with a larger drive. Suitable drives are available in capacities up to 1 TB. A good source is OWC.
