Cleaning marker off a LCD monitor?
My son decided to draw on my 20" Apple cinema display with an orange Sharpie permanent marker? I know you are not supposed to use ammonia or alcohol based products but, will iKlear get this off? What can I use that will do the least amount of damage to my screen? Also I have a couple of scratches too. Is the any new products for these problems? I have a product called Clean Lens mending kit but, it says not to use on lenses with an anti-glare treatment.
Thanks for your help.

Never mind, I searched the web and found out that a 50/50 mix of isopropyl alcohol and water works great. The "permanent" marker came right off. I actually used only about 35% rubbing alcohol. Now the screen is clean & bright but, the scratches are more noticably.

New LCD Monitor Blinks On and Off
I just purchased a new 22" Visionmaster LCD monitor, connected via digital cable to my ATI Radeon 128Mb video card.
However, it tends to switch OFF to a black screen, and after about 5 seconds it comes back on. The screen displays the word DIGITAL in the upper right hand corner.
Why is this happening, and what can I do to avoid it?
It doesn't seem to like using the digital cable. It works fine using the standard VGA cable, however.
Can anyone comment on this? Is this particular card not compatible?
Thanks!Hello! Look in your system prefs under the screen saver and see if a "hot corner" is set. It sounds like the mouse is trying to trigger a screen saver or the "display slep" is set to only a few seconds. I've seen this type of behavior with my Dell screen and it's something I'm triggering with the mouse. Tom

Cleaning Dell LCD Monitor - What are current recommendations?
What are the current recommendations for cleaning a Dell LCD Monitor?
I have always used 50% distilled water and 50% isopropyl alcohol and gently cleaned with a microfibre cloth.
We have many different Dell LCD monitors in my workplace.

Cleaning a mess off an LCD screen - need help asap!!!
my wife had can of spray adhesive blow up near my computer, spraying adhesive all over my 2 LCD monitors. it is now dry and hard. what kind of solvents can i use to remove this without damaging the screens? WD40 removes this crap well from the hard plastic parts, but i'm hesitant to use it on the actual monitor screen. any ideas???
All of the above will damage the screen. WD40 should never be used on any screen, regardless. The gorillas tape can't remove what is on the screen, because the glue softened the polymer of the screen, mixes with it, then hardens...meaning it actually becomes part of the screen; the only way to remove that is to break it off, which is what you'll do if you try the gorilla tapoe method. The citrus based goo removers, if which DSR is just one, will not work for the same reason. The glue has penetrated and dissolved the polymer resin of the screen, then hardened with it. It cannot be removed with a solvent, unless the screen it has integrated into is also removed.
As I stated before, unfortunately replacement is your only ooption.

Sleep When turn off LCD Monitor
Is it possible to trigger pm-suspend when I turn off / turn on my desktop LCD monitor?
Hi,
interesting idea. Have a look at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_Data_Channel
and
http://ddccontrol.sourceforge.net/
I managed to switch the Input (HDMI and DVI) on my monitor with this tool some time ago. So it should be possible to get the state of the monitor too.

Help,
i have just put a screen protector on my iphone 4 and where there was something on the film it seems to have eaten into the screen. is there a way to clean these marks off?I wouldn't worry. Assuming you haven't hacked the phone you cannot have installed any viruses or spyware just by clicking a link in an email. Sounds like the page you accessed could not be read on the phone anyway, or it was just a dead link.

I have a seven-year old Apple 21 inch LCD monitor? Within the last few months a large patch of moisture has developed inside the front glass. How can I remove the moisture?
Radtech claims that their screen cleaning cloth can remove light scratches from Apple Displays. They say it can remove "key-marks and scuffs". I have never tested the scratch removal myself, but you can read about it here.

How do i clean fingerprints off my iMac 27" screen?
I have the 27" late 2012 model iMac and was wondering how to clean fingerprints off the screen. While my family does a videochat we kinda move the scrrenup, down, left or right to view the whole room and nov there are fingerprints on the screen. If i clean them the screen becomes even worse.I cant buy anything too expensive.
Thanks,
smatefI have a similar problem though I have the 21.5", in my case I followed the cleaning directions exactly (except in a few cases where I got some of the cleaning fluid on the display, old habit I guess as that's what the instructions on the cleaner I occasionally use says).
Anyway, even when I follow the directions exactly I am left with smear marks on the glass that can take at least a fortnight to completely eradicate. Regardless of whether I am using water or an LCD cleaning solution.
Something about the newer anti-glare coating is preventing proper cleaning of the display!
Is there a workaround solution, an officially licensed cleaning solution designed for the new coating, or am I doomed to take weeks to clean my screen each time?
I didn't have this problem with my early 2006 iMac 17", with that one I could use the cleaning solution and a quick wipe with both sides of the provided cloth and the screen was like new. -
Satellite L - LCD monitor flashing black after desktop loads
My LCD monitor has started flashing black at startup. It doesn't do it if I log off and log back in, only on startup. I can log in, the desktop loads and everything looks normal then after about 7 seconds everything goes black, then the taskbar quickly appears then disappears and then the desktop becomes visible again momentarily but goes black again. It repeats this very fast two or three times then starts normally.
Everything seems to be working fine otherwise. I disabled my antivirus so it wouldn't startup but that didn't help. I've done some registry cleaning lately so I restored everything back to well before this started and that didn't help either. I've done a lot of installing and uninstalling of software lately but can't pinpoint anything that might have caused it. This computer is about 2 years old. I have Vista 32 bit, service pack 2.
Anyone ever seen this before or have any ideas what the culprit might be? Really appreciate any advice.OK, I connected a CRT monitor from another computer and it basically did it too. As the laptop screen was flashing off and on, the CRT screen went black and then came back on when the laptop went back to normal.
I think my graphics card is Intel Display Driver 7.15.10.1502. Does that sound right? I checked for an update through the Device Manager and it said no update is available. The same version is the only one listed at the Toshiba Downloads page. It's included with my Toshiba Application Installer so I'm tempted to uninstall/reinstall, but I'm afraid if it doesn't automatically install at at startup I won't have a monitor. Any advice on this or anything else is appreciated. -
Sharing a DVI LCD monitor between a MDD & AGP Macs, recommendations?
Hi all,
In the not so near future, I'm looking to share a large(42) LCD monitor with DVI ports between my MDD and AGP Macs. My AGP Mac has the Geforce nividia 4600,64MB video card and the MDD has the ATI 9000PRO, 64mb video card via a dvi switch box.
Any recommendations on a LCD monitor that will give excellent quality? Also, will I see a big difference if I were to upgrade my video cards to 128MB or higher?
thanks, web dudeI have the slightly larger VX2235wm which is 22 inches, and the same video card as you on my MDD. I am satisfied with its performance.
The monitor has separate VGA and DVI input ports. The max widescreen res on my MDD is 1680x1050. I usually run at 1440x900 because my eyes aren't what they once were.
I've gotten higher resolution on the same monitor by connecting it to my MacBook Pro via DVI. Can't remember what the numbers are exactly but I know it's larger than the 1680x1050 on my MDD. The notebook has a newer graphics chipset and 128MB VRAM, so that's not a surprise.
As an aside, I played with both the VGA and the DVI sides of the monitor. I found I have more options for smaller resolutions if I use the DVI-to-VGA adaptor that came with the MDD and connect to the VGA side of the Viewsonic.. I keep the DVI cable attached but tangling over the back of the desk so I don't have to rummage so much when I need to connect the MacBook Pro. It works fine on the DVI cable. As long as I turn off the MDD before connecting the cable, leaving both lines running to the monitor has caused no problems. -
Philips 22inch lcd monitor for mac pro
hi there,
I have recently bought a philips 22 inch lcd monitor (220WS8) for my mac pro, but everytime when i start up the system, it keeps booting up with my old display setup (which was my old 15 inch monitor) and having a big black area on the right.
I have to reset it back to 1680 X 1050 everytime when i startup my system.
I was reading the manual and it suggest resetting the PRAM while starting up the system. That worked, but if I have to do this everytime when i turn on my computer, this is really annoying.
I was wondering if anyone has experienced this or know the solution to this?
* by the way I am currently using the dvi > vga converter at the moment.
Thanks
ThomasHello:
That's interesting. The first time I experienced the problem I was using a vga cable also. I've since switched to dvi.
I've had some strange issues with the 10.4.9 update though. Aside from the video problems the machine was logging itself off every few hours, some disk images ( .dmg and .iso ) refusing to mount, slowness and some USB devices acting strangely. I took it ( 10.4.9 ) off and everything is working great again. Some people have told me it's the 2007-005 security update causing the havoc.
Being an old windows machine convert I am used to straightening out software ( and hardware ) problems. I'd like to experiment and find out what is causing the issues, but I don't have enough spare time to tinker right now. My time is much better spent tending my web sites. The main reason I bought the Mac was to save time, knuckles and aggravation and so far it's done a great job of handling the work load demanded of it. I see now why Mac owners consider their Mac their friend. -
Dell 24" LCD monitor shows barely perceptible lag
I have a Power Mac G5 and just bought a Dell 24" LCD monitor, the 2405FPW, for $825. After happily clearing off my desk of two old CRT's and connecting it up and using it for a couple days, I began to notice a lag between anything I did and when it would appear on the screen. The lag is barely noticeable, but I tend to mouse around very quickly and need precise control of the pointer, and after hours of use, the slight discrepancy seems to be causing me fatigue. It's also a problem when playing Quake (fast-action first-person shooter game). The lag doesn't exist with my old Sony 19" CRT.
Before jumping to any conclusions that I'm insane, please look at this short video clip that clearly demonstrates the same problem. It's quite amazing to see. The video is linked from this page:
<http://weblogs.asp.net/ryanw/archive/2004/09/23/233681.aspx>
(You may have to save it to your desktop and then double-click it to see it.)
The guy hooked both an LCD and a CRT monitor to his machine and spanned a window across the boundary between the two. Then he videotaped what happens if you move the window up and down. You can see clearly that the LCD screen takes longer before it draws its half of the window. Ouch!! He compares using his LCD monitor to "swimming in molasses" (which later spawns an interesting discussion involving a hazmat worker and an overturned tanker of molasses), but I wouldn't go that far.
I ran the same experiment in the video and got the same results (and so did my dad, with his Powerbook Pismo, which is interesting because he never noticed the lag through normal, daily use of the computer). Then I took my Sony CRT to the Apple store and hooked it up next to a 23" Apple Cinema Display. I did the same experiment and there was no lag!! So unless someone has a solution for the Dell monitor, the $500 price difference might be the price I'll have to pay for Mac compatibility. I might wait as long as I can for the price to go down (the salesperson said the last price reduction was last November).
Very few people seem to experience this problem in general (or don't notice it), so I have no idea why it's affecting my system. It's basically a stock dual 2GHz G5, running Mac OS X 10.4.4, with 2.5GB RAM and stock graphics card which should more than handle this (ATI Radeon 9600 Pro, 64MB, AGP 8x). I'm using the digital monitor connection, as opposed to VGA. I'm running very few preference panes and kernel extensions. Dell tech support would have nothing to do with the issue because they don't support Macs, but after some finagling, I finally got the monitor returned with a full refund. My suspicion is that some sort of driver somewhere needs to be updated, but with no support from Dell (their web site doesn't even seem to have a support section for their own monitors), I'm not sure who to expect this from or when.
This problem is subtle and many find it unnoticeable, if they're even experiencing it. So I would like to know if anyone else has a Dell LCD and a regular CRT monitor both hooked up to their system and could try the experiment in the video to confirm "scientifically" that they don't experience this problem!

Power Mac G5 Mac OS X (10.4.4) Basically a stock system. Dual 2GHz, 2.5GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9600 Pro (64MB)My post has started a more extensive discussion on this problem at an Ars Technica forum:
<http://episteme.arstechnica.com/groupee/forums?a=tpc&s=50009562&f=67909965&m=41 90936913&r=796009877731#796009877731>
It appears that the problem may be inherent in all PVA-based LCD's, which include the Dell 2405FPW. It's not noticeable by everyone but so far everyone I've seen who's taken the time to run an objective test has uncovered the lag. If you can run the test, please do! (See earlier in this thread, or see the Ars Technica thread for a better test involving a stopwatch program run on two monitors).
The good news is Apple's 23" Cinema Display is based on a SIPS LCD panel (as is a similar HP display, and I think a Sony display), and these don't suffer from the lag.

Problems with two new LCD monitors and my G5 Power Mac
I bought two of these Westinghouse Digital LCD monitors:
http://www.macaddict.com/issues/2005/11/reviews/lcm
When I plugged in the first one, my Mac's power-on light was on, but the Power Mac G5 (1.6 ghz, 1.25 gb RAM) wouldn't boot and the light wouldn't go off. No problems once I unplugged the first LCD monitor. I plugged it into the second one and the Mac turned on once it was plugged in, but at least I had an image. But the computer was frozen; I unplugged and re-plugged it into the first LCD and had an image, but again, it was frozen.
Any ideas why this is happening? I'm going VGA into the DVI via Apple's adaptor.
Help and thanks,
Heath McKnight
Power Mac G5 1.6 ghz Mac OS X (10.3.9) Single processor, 1.25 gb RAM, 80 gb hard driveOkay, well this is interesting. If I take the brightness down too much, I see "ghosting" on EVERYTHING, including text. Also, when I shut down the Mac with monitor 2 plugged in, the one that when I plug in the LCD it turns the Mac on, it restarts the computer. I did this twice to insure I wasn't just hitting restart by accident. I'm calling tech support Monday (Westinghouse) and I think I'm taking these "good on paper" 16x9 LCDs back to Best Buy for a full refund. Then, I'll buy something different. I'm bummed out...

Auto-adjust on Compaq WF1907 LCD Monitor
I have a vision problem and need to adjust the brightness on my Compaq WF1907 LCD Monitor to 30%. However, every time I turn the monitor 'ON' it performs an auto-adjustment which resets the brightness to 100%.
How can I lock in the 30% or turn the auto-adjust off ?Hello,

Can
anyone please help,
Since I got a new Samsung 2032BW LCD monitor (widescreen), I need to change the Pixel Aspect Ratio or else the place where I take my pics
cant print it. I need to open one photo in photoshop change the PAR to square and save it. This I have to do with all photo's!!!
Please helpMirroring means exactly the same thing will be on each screen. They both must run at the same format to mirror one another.
If you turn mirroring off, then the two screens can be set independently to their optimum resolution.
As far as your second question goes, I'm not sure. Are you saying that even when in mirror mode the second screen goes blank? In that case, I guess that means the game is taking control of the settings and turning mirroring off to free up maximum amounts of VRAM for the game. It's probably best that is happening because the game would no doubt experience a graphics slow down with less video memory at its disposal.
