Cleaning PE4 and deleting mcdb files

I have had problems with PE4 giving the "premier elements.exe has stopped working message" about 75% of the way through burning a project to folder or DVD.
I have followed all the advice on here, and followed advice from adobe technical support but all to no avail.
Originally I had the problem on a previous PC. I now have new Dell XPS420 and transferred my old files using microsoft backup/restore and the problem has transferred along with all the files. My projects burn fine on a friends PC so I know that the problem is not with the project itself.
Anyway to cut a long story short adobe have sent me a copy of PE7 to try. Before install it I want to clean all the PE4 files off and have a clean installation. I have uninstalled PE4 and then done a simple file search on the word "premier". This reveals lots of files left on my system. The bulk of these have extension .avi.mcdb. adobe tech support gave a fairly vague answer on whether I should delete these.
Can anyone advise what .mcdb files are, and whether I can safely delete them.
Also I have the following files left. Can I safely delete these also?

tempworkingset.prsl
notifications.dat
preferences.dat
cache.dat
entry.dat
entry0.dat
entry1.dat
entry2.dat

You can clear all the files present in the "Application Data\Adobe\Premiere Elements\4.0" folder.
These have preferences files and some presets files that you must have created during the editing in PRE4.0 (Note: you would loose this if you delete this)
Also, the 'mcdb' files i think have info about the info about a particular video and corresponding audio linked to it, I think its safe to delete these.

My hard driver is apparently full - but it is full of "other" files. I have cleared downloads and removed my music and pictures, but it still thinks it is full - how do I access and delete the files?

I am having real trouble with the mac book air and i dont know what to do. It thinks it is full, i get warning messages every day, but when i check how the storage is being used it is 45.79 GB of "other" and I can't work out where to locate and delete these files. I have removed all my music and pictures, there are nearly no documents on the bloody thing, i have cleared the downloads, I have run a cc cleaner programme but nothing seems to touch this "other" amount. Its so annoying as it is getting to a point where i can't use the computer properly anymore. Do you have any clue what it could be or how i can deal with it?
It did this last year but not as bad, i never solved it then i just removed all my own files but now "other" is taking that space too. On a windows computer you would be able to click through and view what was taking up the space but you can't seem to do that on a mac. could it be a virus that makes the hard driver think it is full?
Any ideas what I can do?

Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then reboot. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown asBackups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Reboot and it should go away.

You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one.
Deleting files inside an iPhoto or Aperture library will corrupt the library. Any changes to a photo library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install ODS in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size with the largest at the top. It may take a few minutes for ODS to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with ODS, quit it and also quit Terminal.

PS CS4 64-bit (in Web Premium CS4) on Win 7 PC. I did a duplicate file check on my hdd and deleted dup files. Now I get "Some of the application components are missing from the Application directory, Please reinstall.."

When I do this, it seems to install correctly until the very end, then it says "Installation Complete With Errors", and when I try to run I get the same 'component missing message'. What can I do? PS 32 bit runs fine. Some of the other applications ib Web Premium say the shortcut has been changed or removed. I appreciate your help...Thank you

Finding and deleting duplicate files

I apologize in advance if I didn't search effectively enough, but having found no discussion of my problem, here it is:
Is there a way to find, select and delete duplicate files on my hard drive? I know they exist, and would like to see them listed so I can delete This would be text, photo and movie files. Thanks in advance.

P.S. I'm using ilife 08 which has produced a lot of occult duplicate clip files. If anyone knows why mac eliminated the "create a still frame" option, I'd love to hear it...

Go to http://macupdate.com/ and search "duplicates". There are some different utilities for photos, movies and tunes. Although Spring Cleaning will do all, I would stay away from that one or be VERY careful what you delete. Make sure they are only user files in your Home, not system files or Library files.

I have nearly two terabytes of images stored in my image archives and I'm sure that there are many duplicates. Is there an easy way to compare and delete duplicate files to save space on my drives?

It completed the file??? If I text message and E-mail address, my cell phone will come up as and E-mail address... has anyone else had this issue? Is it because I texted the the file? I have nearly the same problem, the printer discards my print job even when i have entered my email address as authorised senders.
Details from my other post:
I sent 2 emails to the printer:
- one is a 3 lines of text and numbers in a GIF file sent as an attachment
- another is a jpg circuit diagram paste in a word doc sent as an attachment
both are classified as spam and refused to print. i have no email coming back saying it failed (even i have checked "Email Job Status" in ePrint Settings.
So what will this HP printer print?

How can I find and delete duplicate files on my macbook pro. Just that i have so many and i think it is wasting a lot of memory etc on my mac! is there a simple and easy way to do so. Like i know in itunes you can just go to one of the opitions and show duplicates, is there anything like that with finder for my whole macbook?

It asks for the serial number and says that my trial has expired. It rejects the serial number from the Adobe case saying "This Serial Number is not valid for this product". It thinks that I still have the expired Trial Version installed. How do I convince it (the program) that the Trial Version is long gone and the currently installed product was installed with a valid and accepted serial number????

That way, should you lose it or you need support, it is on record that it's yours and you can fetch your s/n it from anywhere.

Did you do a secure empty trash? SHIFT COMMAND DELETE, they will be over wriiten. Are you deleting docs as they aren't much space, videos,pictures,music use much more space.
You can move those fiels to an external "archive" drive to save them then delete them from your internal drive.

I use a PC at work and know how to delete temporary files. In fact it just asked me if it wanted to check and delete uncessesary files. How do I do this on my new imac?

I just find the mail application annoying and I never use it. I'd like to clear out any application I dont use to free up space on my hard disk ... How do I do this?

The mail app only takes up a very tiny amount of space - 60.4mb for the application itself. I don't think it is worth deleting and I would advise against it. But if you insist..
I haven't tried this myself, but this is what I found while searching:
Drag Mail.app to the trash and delete it.
use AppZapper which will find everything related to Mail.app and delete it too.
got to Home > Library > Preferences and delete the file "com.apple.mail.plist".
Then go to Home > Library and delete the folder called "Mail". That should get rid of the last traces.
