Cleaning printhead

I am trying to troubleshoot another problem and cleaning printhead has been on the display for 30 minutes without anything going on in the machine.  If i turn it off and restart, it begins the cleaning printhead all over again.  This all started with an error code and constant paper jams.  Any ideas?

Hi jenniferrn96,
You will have to give me more information on the printer model number and the error code that you were getting so that i can assist you further on the issue.

  • Problem with HP Officejet Pro 8500 printer: cleans printheads every time it's turned on

    Hello everybody,
the printer HP Officejet Pro all-in-one 8500 (A909a - product n. CB022A) cleans printheads every time I turn it on. This problem affects any HP Officejet Pro 8500 printer, it isn't a problem only of that one I purchased. It is an annoying and irritating bug because the printheads cleaning at each power on implies two bad disadvantages:
    ink waste (each printheads cleaning process consumes some ink);
too much time (2-3 minutes) to get the printer ready after power on.
I upgraded my printer with the last firmware available on the HP site (firmware ver. DLM1FN1006BR) but the bug is still present.
    At this point I ask:
there exists a way (or procedure) to disable this unnecessary automatic cleaning at every power on?
Can someone contact HP engineers or tell me how contact directly one of them to indicate the bug and ask a new firmware update?
Please don't tell me to leave the printer turned on all the time or that the printheads cleaning at every power on is a normal behavior! Where is then power and ink saving claimed for this printer model?
I hope to receive a solution for this problem. Thanks in advance to everybody will help me!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The servicing when the printer is turned on is normal and is required to keep the printheads healthy (not clogged). See here for information.
As for power savings, the printer will automatically go into a low power mode when not printing for some time.  It is not necessary to turn the product off and on to save power.

  • Re: Problem with HP Officejet Pro 8500 printer: cleans printheads every time it's turned on

I own two of these printers and they both have been cleaning printheads every time it's turned on. My old HP officejet never had  these problems.
The real problem is HP s   credibility . They promoted that these printers used half the ink as any other printer.  Even consumerreports showed 1/2  the cost per page.
As we all know that is pure BS  notwithstanding  the cleaning printheads issues.
Maybe I will let Costco know that I and all owners are unhappy and see if they will refund. They still sell them .
I will repost if I have any success.

If the printer is a year or couple yrs old, maybe the printheads need to be replaced? I once thought they would last forever, and that's really not the case with them, nor anything else really. Hope costco has some good news for you

  • Clean printheads

Color printing is faint and then not uniform.  The ink level is good.  I take it the printhead needs to be cleaned.  But when I click Clean Printheads until the Utility I get an error message "Cleaning could not be Initiated" with the recommendation that either the printer is not online or that it is processing some other job.  But it is both online and idle.  What is to be done?Merrill

I tried a more direct route to solving the issue of why the utility would not initiate the cleaning process.  I took the color cartridge out and found that it was a sticky mess where the ink comes out.  So I left it out of the machine, leaving only the black cartridge in, and tried the Clean Printhead program again  It worked!  The black print on the test page was lovely so I tried printing a real page and it was perfectly clean.  So the problem was that ink in the color cartridge had become smeared all over the cartridge and the cleaning program for the printhead couldn't even get going.  I'm going to get a new color cartridge and make sure it (and this solution) works.

  • HOW TO FIND OUT HOW TO CLEAN PRINTHEADS

HP OFFICE JET 4620.....   HOW DO I FIND WHERE & HOW TO CLEAN THE PRINT HEADS, DEEP CLEANING, ETC?

    Hello @Musiclady1,
I would like to assist you today with cleaning the Printheads on your HP Officejet 4620 e-All-in-One Printer. Can I please have you follow the steps below.
    How to Clean the Printheads:
Load plain, white U.S. letter or A4 size paper in the input tray.
On the printer control panel, press the Setup icon ().
Press the button () next to the Down Arrow () until Tools displays next to OK.
Press the button next to OK to select Tools, and then press the button next to the Down Arrow () until Clean Printhead displays next to OK.
Press the button next to OK to clean the printheads. The printer cleans the printheads and then prints a test page.
Evaluate the test page for print quality.
    - Source
If the print quality is still not satisfactory, you can run another Printhead cleaning. You may need to run up to three Printhead cleans to resolve a quality issue. Because ink is used during the cleaning process, if three cleans has not resolved the issue I would not proceed with additional cleans as you would just be wasting ink.
Please let me know if these steps resolve your issue. Best of luck!

My Officejet keeps on cleaning its print head, and it keeps on doing it, over and over again. I dont understand what the problem is.After it Finally Cleans the Printhead, it says checking printer and then starts cleaning the printhead again.

    Why does it do this?
spent another $100 buying a set of inks.now it's cleaning itself like a dog in heat...I do not abuse my printer; got a pro because i got tired of buying a printer every year.I do not have a business, but have 3 persons in my home in school.if your computers and printers can't handle the demand from 3 school children, that sparingly use this printer, then change the name from pro to cheap...

Have been having issues with poor color quality. Also Black ink prints sometimes not always. e.g. On duplex printing balck ink fades to nothing after a couple of pages. I know the issue is in the printheads as even the print cartridge holder is full of dried ink spots. Inside of printer is full of dust. Would like to clean ink cartridge holder and vacuum or eliminate all dust inside printer as well as cleaning or replacing all printheads. Where can I buy new printheads at best prices?

  • My yellow ink just stopped after 20 pages. cleaning printhead didn't help per hp instructions.

I have a photosmart plus b210e series. My yellow ink started streaking, and then gave out completely within about 2 pages of printing photos. The diagnostic report confirms that yellow doesn't show up. but the printer seems to think everything is fine. I tried cleaning the printhead and making sure ink was coming out of the yellow cartridge, but that didn't work, either. I've only printed about 20 pages when this happened.

    Hey sara123abc,
Teh symptoms you're describing sound like a hardware failure in the printer's ink system.  There are a few more steps you can try.
    1. Remove teh power cord from the printer and allow it to sit for about a minute, then plug the power cord back in.
    2. Try replacing the ink cartridge, it is possible that the cartridge is not delivering ink correctly to the printhead.
If neither of these steps are successful in restoring your ink usage, you problably need to to contact HP printer support at 1-800-HPINVENT to receive more advanced troubleshooting.
If I have solved your issue, please feel free to provide kudos and make sure you mark this thread as solution provided!

  • Printer does not print the blue ink and clean printheads does not show the blue blocks

I cleaned my printheads numerous times and ran the printing test but the blue blocks do not show up.  There are no streak lines in any of the other colors. How do I fix this problem?

    Hey there @mvelalis!
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!
I would be happy to provide some assistance regarding the cyan not printing.  If you have already run the printhead cleaning with no success in getting the cyan to print then I suggest removing the printhead from the printer and manually cleaning the copper contacts.  The printer takes 4 print cartridges and 2 printheads.  The printheads need to be replaced like cartridges but not as often.  The printheads are what actually put ink onto the page.
To manually clean the printheads click: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01609042
I was also able to locate a document regarding Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP Officejet Pro 8500 Premier (A909n) and 8500 Wireless (A909g....  I suggest going through the documents for possible solutions to your issue!

  • #7590-black ink not getting thru to paper.Changed cartridge/cleaned printhead. Colors ok.

After 2 months of non use, ink not getting thru to paper, sounded as if printhead was working.
There was ink build up at cartridge, cleaned them and printhead. No help.
Changed cartridges. Colors m/y/c came thru but not black.
    Any suggestions.

The ink levels reported are those that would occur if the cartridge were printing as expected.  If the black is clogged it would appear from the ink guage that ink was being expelled even if it were not.  Also, when the color ink is expelled into the service station it will mix and appear black even though it is made of the colors.
As for being a software issue, you can print an internal test page as shown in the troubleshooting document here.  That test page is not dependent on the computer, and the driver or other software is not involved.  The troubleshooting steps in that document may help resolve the issue.  If not I would suggest you Contact HP to discuss your options.
