was wondering what i can use besides my feather duster to clean the screen on my iBook, any liquid to get the finger prints off?

Hi Jennifer. I'm a certified Mac repair guy and I've been using an ammonia based foam spray glass cleaner like BonAmi or Glance since the PowerBook 100 became available (1990 or so) and I've never had a problem with residue or any kind of damage to the laptop screens, ever. In fact I doubt you could get cat nose uck or finger prints off with just water. Finger print marks are composed of an acidic oil and so you'd need more than water to disolve the oil. You will eventually see small squares on your screen that are made by the keys on the keyboard that are etched into the plastic of the screen by the oil that's been on the keys. So it's important to clean it often. Just wipe the foam with a paper towel and it's done. If it's particularly marked you might have to do it twice.

Usually just a cloth is good. If you want to keep fingerprints off you could buy an anti fingerprint screen protector or use the apple smart cover, which cleans the screen whenever you use it.

Go into iPod and play a song. While it's playing, click the standby button to lock/standby your phone and again to wake it (locked), then press the menu button twice. (This should also work if you play a song, press menu once to return to the main menu, then click menu twice. If not, there's a setting to turn it on.)

Trying to do a clean install on iBook G4 - Freezing

I received a G4 iBook and want to do a clean install to erase the previous owner's hard drive and add all my own applications.
When I put the disk in it asks me to use a password, which I have and the computer restarts. But just as the grey apple icon appears in the center of the screen, it slighly shifts tot he right, a line of pixels appear to burn out, and the screen is frozen. I then have to restart holding down the mouse button and the eject button to get the disk to eject. When it restarts without the disk inside the computer runs fine and the pixels are no longer "burned out"
The laptop has 10.3.9, the disk I am using to clean install is the original 10.3 disk (I was planning to update after the install)
Can anyone help?

Does it start up normally without any problem?
You won't need to use a password if have the disk inserted and choose restart and then hold down the C key until the grey screen/apple logo appears.

Cleaning screen

I have an iBook G4. How do I clean my screen? Do I use cleaning solution? What kind of cloth do I use?

I have been using monitor cleaning wipes from Walmart and they work just fine for me. They are anti-static, soft enough so they would not harm the display, and also relatively cheaper than other product ($4.75 - you get 80 of them for that price) - you can find them at the electronics department next to the keyboards, USB flash drives...you get the idea.

While reading PDF document using Speak Screen option, iBooks doesn't turn pages automatically

I have been using the speak screen option in iOS 8 to read books and pdf documents in iBooks app. iBooks app turned pages automatically and kept on reading the screen till i updated my phone to iOS8.3. Now, the app stops reading the screen once the page is completed. I have to stop my vehicle, unlock phone, open iBooks app, swipe down with two fingers. It's irritating.
Earlier, I have read dozens of books and pdf documents using this function while doing exercise or routine tasks. now it's not possible unless someone helps.

Unfortunately, I am having precisely the same issue since updating to iOS 8.3 with my iPhone 5s.
I just filled out a bug report here > https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html, which I've often read on these forums is the best way to get some resolution. I don't know if you read the list of "fixes" for 8.3 or not (here: iOS 8.3), but, it includes the following:
"Fixes an issue in Speak Screen where speech will not start again after pausing"
So...apparently, in fixing THAT problem, they broke something else. At least for some of us...

Word docs don't open full screen on iBook

My brother, up in Maine, I'm in NY, has an iBook with Word X on it. (I don't know the version of OSX he has but he probably hasn't updated it since he bought it... I am not sure of the model of his iBook either. I can find out.) His main complaint is that Word documents don't open full-screen (once he drags the window to fill the screen) upon reopening or with new blank documents.
I am wondering if Word doesn't like certain screen resolutions. I don't know what he is using now but I have suggested he try some others. Does anyone know if Word docs won't act right under certain screen resolutions? Or if it is something else, what can we do so that docs open fully.
He bought the Mac thinking it was easier to use but this one thing has kept him from using it at all! He is using this for his business, a used book shop, and would use Word to list books. I hope to fix this so he can see the value of the Mac.

You may want to poke around on Microsoft's Mactopia and see if there are some hints for him there.

I used to get an option in iBooks to dim the screen - it disappeared a few updates ago - is there a new way of doing this now or has it been removed altogether, if so does anyone know why?

Open a book in iBook, tap the screen, tap the icon with two As and use the slider to dim the screen.

Ok, I thought that clear button would clear only the upper screen, but if I click and focus with the mouse at the lower screen it will clean the lower screen.

Best Solution for a Clean Screen.

I've ran a couple searches but found answers that weren't really relevant to my question. I just wanted to know the best and easiest way to clean the Macbook Alu's screen. I have oil on my screen from finger prints and such and its really hard to get off.
I just want a simple method to reduce and polish it, I'm not looking into using vinegar and all that stuff, for one because I have none and secondly I think there are way less smellier methods.

NOTE: DO NOT USE EYEGLASS CLEANING SOLUTIONS, THEY WILL DAMAGE YOUR SCREEN.

1 screen + 1 iBook= 1 BIG screen

i have an old monitor that i sometimes use for my ibook (works perfectly) but i want to know how to do that thing where you have two screens and the two screens work together to become one gigantic screen. Does anyone know how to do this, and if they do what is this "method" called?

yea - i get your point - i think that most software comes down to using it at your own risk to some extent - i've had no probles with it - to be honest i don't see how using it could void warranty either - since it's only software and you don't have to open up the iBook or anything. *unless you totally screw up your iBook which i don't see how that could happen* i'm just totally adventurous when it comes to trying software but do take some precautions of course i think that it depends on the iBook perhaps it is installing on and how well the graphics card will handle it. I have one of the newer ones, and it handles it excellently. *if i would of had more money i'd a gone with a power book instead

What causes a blanc screen in iBook G4(no text or picture)

the screen went blanc in my iBook G4 , no text no picture. I can connect to my TV screen and use it as a monitor

this also happen for a brand new user. So my setup is not the culprit
BUT this works if I login from the console with startx so not with gdm.
So gdm is the problem here. Any idea ??
