From the X Lab's Maintaining Mac OS X
System and User cache cleaning are troubleshooting steps, not part of regular maintenance.
Caches are used to improve the performance of both the operating system and applications. Removing System and User cache files for other than troubleshooting purposes defeats the purpose of cache files, which will be rebuilt automatically at your next restart or login, adding time to those processes.
Potential side effects of System-level cache cleaning are discussed in our "Side effects of System cache cleaning" FAQ.
Accordingly, cache cleaning can be an important troubleshooting step, such as when used in our"Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ, but it is not regular maintenance.

I have a Mac Book Pro.  I have been playing Song Pop for about 6 months.  However, just starting today, Song Pop doesn't load.  The record on the title page of Song Pop just keeps spinning.  I saw someplace online that I might have to clean the cache.  Is that so?  If so, how do I do that?  Thank you.

    Hi Mike,
Just as Hsbal said, we can use a connection string for ODBC, so that we don’t have to pre-create the DSN on the systems that will be running the SSIS package.
Please note that most of the Source can use a connection string without DSN. Please use the correct connection string based on the source. For more details, please refer to the following document:

How do I clean the "cache" of internet sites (URL's) stored on my computer?
    Where are cookies stored?
I cannot find where these are stored, though a technician showed me once.

Under Safari's History menu select Clear History at the bottom of the listing.
To clear Cookies open Safari Preferences > Privacy and locate the button to clear cookies.
If you enable the Develop menu then you can empty all caches from it. Should find that under the Advanced icon in the preferences toolbar.

  • Taking too long to conform video after cleaning media cache files

So im working on a very large project at the moment and i noticed that the available space on my macbook pro was dramatically decreasing each day, untill i had nothing else left to delete. I eventually found out that the media cache database on adobe premiere pro CC was taking up 560GB. Perhaps prematurely, I decided to clean the cache.
Now after loading up my project, it is re conforming each piece of video and seems to get stuck on one particular video and is taking hours and hours and hours. Is there any way around this? I fear ill be waiting a very long time until I can carry on editing the video.
    Thanks

Wow thanks Jim. I copied the files over to my 2TB hard drive and it worked fine!
The old hard drive I was using was something like 200gb but75% full - I did have scratch disks set to the new HDD but anyway - this worked perfectly thanks

  • Clearing the Cache

    Hi
I have been getting to grips with the sun update software over the last 2 days.
In about a years time I see that the cache of downloaded patches will have a great deal of obsolete downloads.
While my servers arent in production I wanted to check how I can clear the cache of updates downloaded to my update proxy (which is also a client, the only 1 I have at present).
It would be nice to be able to delete patches, and other obsolete data (eg READMEs) that are in various directories below: /var/sadm/spool, that are older thatn a certain number of days, but I will settle for a complete clean if thats the only way.
I tried a few things to clean the cache completely (this one was on the forum, but didnt work for me):
    cd /var/sadm/
I moved the spool dir and created another with the same permissions and ownership
    patchsvr stop
    patchsvvr start
But when I do an analyze in the updatemanger gui, I get (right at the end of the analysis, according to the progress bar anyway) a dialog with:
    Read System Analysis Data Error
There is an error in reading system analysis data. Click on "Check
for Updates" to restart a system analysis. If the problem persists,
report the issue to your sysadmin or Sun.
Selecting "Check for Updates" gives the same error.
If I move the spool dir back again all is fine.
I tried the same thing with the /var/sadm/spool/cache dir and got the same.
Files are created in that dir.
    ./cache/collection/https%3A%2F%2Fgetupdates1.sun.com%2Fsolaris%2F%2Fcollection%2Fdefault
    ./cache/category/https%3A%2F%2Fgetupdates1.sun.com%2Fsolaris%2F%2Fcategory%2Fdefault
    ./cache/Database/https%3A%2F%2Fgetupdates1.sun.com%2Fsolaris%2F%2FDatabase%2Fcurrent.zip
    ./cache/entitlement/https%3A%2F%2Fgetupdates1.sun.com%2Fsolaris%2F%2Fentitlement_client
    ./cache/https%3A%2F%2Fgetupdates1.sun.com%2Fsolaris%2F%2Fdetectors.jar
    Any ideas.
    Thanks
    Trevor

I had a look further at this and, if you remove the *.jar files there is no issue. They are just downloaded again if required.
This is even easier to do if you specify another location for the patches to be downloaded too.
The problem is way less than I initially thought and its just the caching of READMEs viewed through updatemanger GUI and analysis ot available updates.
Still they eventually could do with a cleanout.
    Cheers
    Trevor

  • Is there a way to clean the javascript cache of files in layouts folder?

Is there a way to clean the javascript cache of files in layouts folder?
If I deploy a new version of the solution after some changes in javascript file which is deployed to the layouts folder the old version is used. The only fix I have found so far is to change the URL of the javascript file with some fake querystring like
"?v=2". But this requires another deployment. So I am asking for an alternative approach.

    hi Nikolay,
there is no clean solution for your problem. Browsers cache files by url, you can avoid caching appending in query string unique value per deployment. For example
_layouts/my_js_file.js?v=<current date> - will be refreshed from cache when day changes
_layouts/my_js_file.js?v=<GUID> - if guid is generated on every request, this file should never cache
_layouts/my_js_file.js?v=<product version> - more preferable solution, browser will update cache on every new version that was deployed
Actually, ScriptLink should take care about this, internally it has a method that appends unique id into query string based on js file content, if content changed, hash is also changed and new unique id is generated.

  • How to clean the IE browser cache from the jsp?

I have my own web application running on my IE browser, Also we have created this application shortcut URL link on my desktop.(i.e just we have created some short cut for the URL http://localhost:8080/app ). If we accidently closes the browser with out log out option , then if we opens the new browser with the shortcut browser link, it maintains the session and it holds all the data which we ran before.
The main issue is,In Internet Explorer (IE 5.x) If we closes the browser while running the appliaction using Alt-F4 or using X(close) option. After that if we open that application's shorcut link it opens with same session, could you please give me some suitable solution for to remove the cache from the Internet Explorer?
    I have used :
    <meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache">
    <meta http-equiv="Expires" content="0">
and all the possible meta option , It does't work for me to clear the client side cache.
    thanks
    vijay

It's not clear what goal you're trying to reach. Do you need session at all? Is it browser's caching that bothers you?
If I remember correctly IE keeps session even after all its windows closed. Mozilla does just the opposite.

  • How do I manually cleans the garbage of FF?

How do I manually cleans the garbage of FF?
    Hi
I know FF has built-in functionality to clean history, cache, cookies
I know there are programs such as CCleaner that do the same
    I want to learn ok?
When I want to clean (index.dat, Temp, Cookies, History..) running IE 8, I create another account and from this "new account" I move all the IE 8 contents to another folder, next I create a partition and move this folder to this partition, finally Format and Wipe this partition with Acronis
I know the locations where all the "garbage" stores in IE 8, but I am lost with Firefox
    IE 8
In IE 8 I delete all the content in these locations manually
    \Documents and Settings\<Username>\Cookies\index.dat
    \Documents and Settings\<Username>\Local Settings\History\History.IE5\index.dat
    \Documents and Settings\<Username>\Local Settings\History\History.IE5\************\index.dat
    \Documents and Settings\<Username>\Local
    \Settings\History\History.IE5\************\index.dat
    \Documents and Settings\<Username>\Local
    \Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat
    And others paths
I hash of the folders and subfolder of FireFox/Mozilla
Which folder do I have to delete? I do not want to have any "garbage"
If I can understand how to clean all the Temporary files, history, cookies, download history, form history manually using FF it will change my Life!!!

The urlclassifier3.sqlite file stores the encrypted contents of the phishing protection database and it is best to leave this file to avoid Firefox having to rebuild it.<br />
You can remove the file if it really gets to large (around 50 MB is not unusual).
The bookmarkbackups folder stores the daily created JSON backups with a maximum of 10.<br />
You can set that maximum in Firefox via the browser.bookmarks.max_backups pref on the about:config page.
It is best to leave the other files in the Firefox Profile Folder (Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\) intact, and use Clear Recent History if you want to remove data, to avoid database corruption.

  • Clean system cache and user icon

I am the admin user on my computer and everytime I clean the system cache it reverts the icon of my user to the icon of the system administrator as seen in this picture: http://image.versiontracker.com/scrnsht/48491/155862/190rootUser.png This is just a picture I found to show what the icon looks like it is not my computer as I am the only user on it.
My question is, how do I keep it from changing? Is it possible?

is there a way to re-build desktop or any de-frag utilities built in like there used to be.No. There is no re-build desktop, the closet to that would be rebuild directory and you'd need a third party app. There is also usually no need to optimize or defrag in OS X. since OS X defrags on the fly.
Have a look at Mac 101 or Switch 101 for a good start.
