Cleaning the Cloth? (Yes I said it)

Sometimes, the cleaning cloth that came with the iPhone absorbs/receives a lot of oils, dirt, and hair so, whenever I clean the iPhone, it just smears the oils and dirt around the screen. What is a good way for me to clean this cloth? Should I just throw it in with the wash and dryer or is their a certain way I should wash it?

This is a funny thread... I belong to many automotive detailing sites (I manufacture high end detailing products, www.dftowel.com) and whenever the subject of cleaning detailing towels comes up the thread explodes. Look at all the responses here! There seems to be something about iPhones, Hot Rods, and laundry!
Anyway, the cloth that comes with the phone is far from magical, it's a simple polyester cloth. The one thing you DON'T want to do is clean the phone dry. All you will succeed in eventually doing is catching a piece of grit and grinding into the surface causing scratches. Over time you will see a lot of swirl marks. What you want to do is just spray the cloth, not the phone, with a VERY LIGHT spray of glass cleaner then clean the phone.
As far as cleaning the cloth is concerned, just throw it in the wash with your other darks and let it go through the cycle. Machine drying won't harm it at all. You want to machine wash the cloth because hand washing will not always get out all the dirt and oils and will eventually contribute to scratching the phone.
You can eventually replace the cloth with eyeglass ones from an optician or use a small all cotton terry. Stay away from paper towels, newspaper, and cheap Chinese microfiber.

  • How to clean the cloth?

My macbook pro came with a wonderful screen cleaning cloth -- it picks up dust fabulously well.
And, Apple tells us how to clean the screen.
My question:  what is the safe method of cleaning the cloth !?

machine washable..don't use fabric softner, it will ruin the microfibers.  for more info -------->"more like this"

  • Forgot the passcode to my ipad. When I went to restore it, it asked me if I wanted to update the software so I said yes. It then went into recovery mode, I'm guessing, with the connect to iTunes showing on the screen. Now iTunes will not recognize it??

Forgot the passcode to my ipad. When I went to restore it, it asked me if I wanted to update the software so I said yes. It then went into recovery mode, I'm guessing, with the connect to iTunes showing on the screen. Now iTunes will not recognize it so I have no idea how to get it back! Help!!

Then you will need to try restoring it once more:
Placing your device into recovery (DFU) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
If you have a problem getting into recovery mode then try: RecBoot: Easy Way to Put iPhone into Recovery Mode.
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • Best way to clean microfiber cloth used for the display?

What is the best way to clean microfiber clothes used for the display?
    Thanks

Hand washing works well, but can be tedious.
If you decide to machine wash, make sure of a few things:
    - Use warm water
    - Do not wash with towels or undergarments. The microfiber cloth will pick up every bit of lint from them.
    - Wash it with similar color items.
    - Use regular soap, but don't use bleach or fabric softener. The bleach can damage the cloth (and the Apple cloth is black anyway, do you really want a spotted cloth?) and the fabric softener will reduce the effectiveness of the cloth.
    - Hang it up to dry or dry it on the lowest setting of your dryer. I am not certain about the Apple cleaning clothes, but other microfiber clothes have been known to actually melt in the dryer if it gets too hot.
    To hand wash:
    - Put the cloth in a bowl with a tight fitting lid, add a little soap. Either dish soap or laundry soap will work, you don't need much.
    - Close the lid tight & then shake the bowl hard for a few minutes. Find a 3 year old, they'll love to help do this.
    - Remove the cloth & rinse it well, making sure the water runs clear.
    - Air dry flat or throw it in the dryer at a low setting.

Do not try to use it.  Make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians evaluate it for FREE.

  • Cleaning the top ball on a Mighty Mouse

Anybody got a suggestion how to clean the crud off the little top ball on my Mighty Mouse (wired)? It's getting temperamental in use and appears the heave some gunk stuck to it.

What BillC said is a good way to do it.
Also i like to use the disinfecting wipes place it on a hard surface and roll it on there and scrub it to make sure the wheel is slick enough to pick up any smal particles and dry out the disinfecting wipe and use that to dry it off, the fabric is pretty nice to use as a drying cloth for it aswell.
but generally a microfiber cloth would work too.

  • Cleaning the laptop... ready to divorce my spouse!!!

Yes, pretty severe but I just got a new (less than a week old) black MacBook. My husband was trying to 'teach me a lesson" about leaving fast food cups in the garbage (long story -- he says if I don't properly bag them they leak all over the garbage can) decided leave a wet cup with liquid it in on top of my new MacBook. He put the wet cups directly on top of the Apple logo. The paper cup leaked and water got all around the laptop cover and the Apple. Besides being really ****** - I need to clean the sticky residue off the top and I'm worried about the screen components.
    2 important questions --
    (1) Is the Apple logo on the lid sealed (thus preventing liquid from getting inside the top and into the screen components)? and
    (2) What can I clean the case/lid with to get off the residue of the soda?
I'm calmer now. Deep zen breathing is working....
    Very Sincerely,
    Anne

I'm really sorry to hear that! It sounds as if your husband is like my stepfather, a compulsive-obsessive *******.
I've had to deal with crap like dishes being brought down from the kitchen and piled up on my desk in the basement because they weren't washed fast enough, a ton of other things also, etc.
If the screen looks fine then the computer is fine. I don't think it's watertight, but I do think the seal is pretty tight and if it was mostly just condensation as opposed to a pouring-out, etc. very little would have entered.
I know it's upsetting. I remember when I was gifted with an Omega seamaster watch, the jeweller was a complete idiot and kept hammering away at the strap to try and adjust it and ended up scratching both the band and the bezel.. he didn't know what he was doing. They polished it out a little but the damage was done. They tried to rationalize it by saying I would have scratched it up much more myself, and while probably true I hadn't even walked out of the store yet. So I could never enjoy the watch as much after that. In retrospect if I could do it over again, I would have said to my uncle, don't buy this.
You would not be out of bounds however to ask whether or not your punishment was out of proportion to your crime. It is true you are careless to throw full drink containers into the trash because they do tip over and leak, esp. if the bag gets a little rip in it. However, a leaking garbage bag is not the same as pouring pop on a week old laptop. So by all means ask. It will be interesting to see what he says.
    Good luck with your marriage.
If you need inspiration, one time when I was 4 or 5 years old, I wrote my name on my dad's Buick with a ballpoint pen on all 4 sides. He wasn't too happy, and yes I got spanked. Maybe you could write your name on your husband's car.
Let me know when you guys hit the newspapers.

  • Cleaning the guts of an HP B & W or Color LaserJet Printer

    Hi:
I currently have an HP4M LaserJet printer...it appears to have "died" after 20 years.
I have had to do meticulous internal cleaning of it in the past, when I toner cartridge would go bad, dumping toner into the printer.  With brushes, lint free cloths, etc, you could clean the inside of the printer, after removing a few items; e.g., the paper feed roller mechanisms, the fuse roller, etc.  The 4M's HP User's Manual showed how to do this.  If you take time to do it properly, ...and this usually requires several hours to do...you will end up with crisp clean printouts...no excess toner-speckling on the printouts.
I am considering replacing the 4M with one of the following HP Laser Printers.
    HP LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer (B & W)
    HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn Printer (B & W)
    HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401n Printer (B & W)
    HP LaserJet Pro 400 M401dne Printer (B & W)
HP laserJet Pro 200 color Printer M251nw (Color)
Am I correct that B & W is not striclty Black or White but also includes Gray-Scale like the 4M did ?
The P1102 appears to have the same (or similar) toner cartridge mechanism that the 4M did.
When you rermove it, you can see the gear mechanisms, etc....not yet sure about the fuse roller.
The Pro 400 printers look very much like the 4M externally, but I do not yet know about the internals.
The M251nw is a different animal.
It has a metal slide-out tray that holds 4 toner cartridges which appear to be "rectanglular" in shape.
Can this tray be  removed by the user (for cleaning) if a cartridge dumps toner into the printer ?
Is the fuse roller accessible to the user for removal and cleaning ?
I have looked through the M251's User Manual, and this level of cleaning is not covered.
It only covers "cleaning" like an inkjet does for cleaning the printheads.
Somehow, I would think that the user should have access to the guts of the printer,
since a Tech Support person would also have to disassemble the printer for cleaning.
if this information exist, where do I find it ?
    Thank you
    DaleBr

Colors are great because they provide you with color.  But the cost of ownership is a lot higher because now you have 4 color toner cartridges.  With the cost of toner cartridges hovering around US$130 each, you are looking at a cost of at least $520 in toner replacement costs.  Granted you won't be using all the toner across the whole page but if you print photos or images, it will deplete quickly.  Plus with 4 toner cartridges inside, the cartridges are fairly small.
Cost per prints for black and white hovers around 1 to 4 cents per copy.  Color prints cost around 8 to 17 cents per copy. But I read somewhere from someone worker for a company selling the toner it can cost up to 30 to 75 cents per copy for a full page of color.
So in a nutshell, it's very expensive to have color.

  • How can I clean the keys on my Macbook Pro?

I got my macbook pro 7 months ago and the keys look terrible. I guess my fingers are naturally greasy, because the keys aren't as matte and rough as they were when I got the macbook; they're softer, have oil patches and are worn down. I've searched this topic everywhere but couldn't get a direct answer, and my keys need to be cleaned... Also, are they supposed to be worn down? My friend has had her macbook since last year and her keyboard is still matte and brand new, even though she doesn't clean it or use a keyboard cover. :T

I have cleaned my keys using two methods 1) with the microfiber cloth the mac came with.  I made sure the cloth wasn't very wet. 2) I used electronic wipes.  Both yielded excellent results.  Make sure your mac is turned off and the magsafe power adapter is unplugged.  I have had my current mac for 15 months and the keys do not appear to be worn at all, but I suppose it depends on how hard you type and how often.

  • Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display produces small white spots, how do I clean the screen?

How do I remove the white spots from the Macbook Pro display? The cleaning cloth takes out few of the spots, but I don't want to apply so much pressure on the display, as it may damage it. I'm a little nervous about using liquids, should I? Any solutions? Cloths? Liquids? Etc.

I've noticed that people offer various personal advice on this, but nobody references the engineers who actually designed and built the screen.  I'm assuming Apple did consult the engineers on this issue and they actually took the time to write about it in the "MacBook Pro Important Product Information Guide."  They probably thought it was important or something. ;-)
I'll quote page 2 from the 2012 rMBP version:
"Cleaning the McBook Pro Screen  To clean your MacBook Pro screen, first shut down your MacBook Pro and unplug the power adapter. Then dampen the included cleaning cloth with just water and wipe the screen. Do not spray liquid directly on the screen." (Emphasis added.)
Coming from a machining background, I would recommend using a swirling motion to avoid wearing the screen in a uniform manner.  Take note that this is not explicitly stated in the guide, and is probably not necessary considering the included cloth is so soft that it probably wouldn't affect the screen this way.

  • What should I use to clean the trackpad?

I bought iKlear to clean the screen of my MacBook and it works great. I have been using it for years on my iBook. I was reading the directions and it says not to use it on the trackpad. I had used it on my iBook trackpad with no problems. What should I use then to clean my trackpad? Why should I not use it on my trackpad? Anyone have suggestions or used iKlear on their trackpad despite iKlear's warnings?
    Thom

A very slightly damped cotton cloth works wonders. Just be sure to wring it out as best you can so no liquid gets anywhere you don't want it to be.

  • How to clean the shiny reflective display

I got some grease and fingerprints on the shiny display of my new Macbook, it's not easy to clean it seems.
Anybody has recommendations for cleaners/solutions that don't harm the reflective surface?

    Use water.
It works and is the only thing recommended in the MacBook instruction booklet.
"To clean your MacBook screen, do the following:
•Shut down your MacBook, unplug the power adapter, and remove the battery.
•Dampen a clean, soft, lint-free cloth or paper with water only and wipe the screen." (p.107)
While removing the battery may be a bit drastic, I think it's easiest and best to avoid cleaners and just use water. As long as the cloth is only slightly damp and you dry the screen afterwards with the same clean, soft, lint-free cloth or paper, it will remove anything that can be removed.

  • Song Pop doesn't load anymore.  Do I have to clean the cache?  If so, how do I do that?

I have a Mac Book Pro.  I have been playing Song Pop for about 6 months.  However, just starting today, Song Pop doesn't load.  The record on the title page of Song Pop just keeps spinning.  I saw someplace online that I might have to clean the cache.  Is that so?  If so, how do I do that?  Thank you.

    Hi Mike,
Just as Hsbal said, we can use a connection string for ODBC, so that we don’t have to pre-create the DSN on the systems that will be running the SSIS package.
Please note that most of the Source can use a connection string without DSN. Please use the correct connection string based on the source. For more details, please refer to the following document:
