Cleaning the Registry

Windows XP pro 32 bit CF-28 computer IE 8. FP is the newest one 11.1.102.55.
From time to time I use a program to clean my registry or any thing else I need it for. It is called Regseeker. It seems to do a good job but after I use it then I find out flash player wants me to install it again so I have to uninstall it and install it again. So looks like my cleaner is removing something that shouldn't be and then it is not recognized when I go to use it?
I have looked at all the stuff that is put into the registry and made a copy of it. Can you think of any one thing that I could put into my program for the cleaner to exclude or do I need to put the whole list it it?
Thanks and hope this made since??????

Well guys I didn't get to 65 not knowing how to keep a computer cleaned up and running way past time for a clean install. So you guys do what you want and I will do like I always have. I can't afford new ones any more so my wife and I just live with it now. We do have a few computers that we use so if one goes down we grab another one and keep on going will I reload and get it back running.
I defrag maybe 4 times a year on my computer but have to do it more often on the home one. She does real work on it so it needs it often. I just search and post on my forums so I don't have the clutter.
I really doubt anyone will even have an answer for me on my post. But thought I would give it a try anyway.
The problem that I was having and what made me use the cleaner and after doing so things would go back to normal again untill I did the same thing again and the cleaner would fix it again. It has nothing to do with Flash Player but every time in the past that I would use the program I would have to reload FP. I had not realized what was going on untill this time that my cleaner was removing something that really didn't need to be removed so FP would keep on working like normal. It showes me every thing tha it found in my registry and most of it say file not found or not used or opens with and so on. So there has to be one or more things that is found that I should not remove but heck if I know what one or ones that would be? It is just one of thoes pesky little problems that happen and can be fix easy so you just live with it and go on.
My son uses the same program and he has no problem. I use the same program on the home computer and it has no problem with the player but effects something else that has to be reloaded and I do hear the wife fussing about it untill she does what the popup tells her to do and case closed.
Hope you guys have a Merry Christmas and a great New Year. And for sure we need a better year!!!!
Thanks

Had same problem with 10.7.  I've followed all the suggestions I can find, restored my computer many times, cleaned the registry... this is the worst software install I've ever seen!

I kept getting the reminder to update itunes  11.1.4 on my Windows 7 laptop.  I now forget the error message other than it would stop and say something that itunes has stopped working and to do a manual d/l from itunes.  That did not work either.
The suggestion to remove the Apple Software Updater from my programs solved this problem.

  • Firefox 14.0.1 will not run on my computer even after unistalling and reinstalling and cleaning the registry, yet Firefox 9 runs fine why?

As soon as I updated to Firefox 14.0.1 it would not start, I uninstalled and reinstalled several times, including removing almost all registry references to Firefox or Mozilla. As soon as I downloaded Firefox 9 it worked fine, I guess I will be waiting until and update that works.
Windows 7, 64 bit, full updates, Webroot A/V, no malware. I don't so much as need a solution as I was offering up advice.

Would you mind installing Firefox 14 again, and seeing if you get any crash Id's from it? there is a startup crash that we are investigating right now, and it seems similar to what you are experiencing.
#Press the following shortcut to get a Run window: [Windows] + [R]. This should bring up a window that contains a text field.
#In that text field, enter %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
#From that explorer window, double-click on the ''Mozilla'' folder, then double-click on ''Firefox'' and then on ''Crash reports''. Double-click on ''submitted''.
#Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to ''View'' > ''Arrange Icons by'' > ''Modified'' to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
#Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
#Paste each ID into the reply window on the forums.
    Thanks in advance!

  • How do I re-install iTunes and/or clean the registry from past iTunes installation?

I have downloaded iTunes in the past and then removed it with the appropriate Windows Add/Remove Programs feature.  Now, several months later, I cannot download iTunes much less install it.  Although the website assumes I have it and directs me to a website that says Thank You for Downloading iTunes, I have not downloaded it nor do I have it on my machine at present time.  My machine is a Windows Home Premium laptop 64-bit. I have a lot of devices on this wireless network some of which are an iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch.  But only the iPhone is mine as in not my roommate's.  The last time I remember using iTunes on this machine (Windows 64-bit laptop) was when I found out that the Audible program was connected to iTunes.  Soon after that, I removed iTunes b/c it was causing several problems via my wireless home network and since that to me was a security risk with which I was not willing to "enjoy".  Please help.
    NOTES:
    Machine:  Samsung Laptop
OS:  Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium
    Security:  All on and updated
Machine Google:  Chrome signed in as me
iPhone 4s:  OS 6 (I think my phone is connected to my laptop somehow wirelessly)
    iPhone status:  All apps updated
iPhone Google:  Several apps signed in as me

If you go straight to the "thank you for downloading" page after clicking on download, suspect popup blocking. You should get a little save/cancel dialogue box.
So check your security software & browser for popup blocking.

I received this after performing a complete un-install, ran a utility to clean the registry, re-booted, then downloaded and re-installed the latest version of iTunes (10.0.7.21) This was the same error message I received before performing the steps above. Sanjeev:
Maybe you can help. I haven't been able to resolve this one "small" problem which is preventing me from rolling out iWS6.0 SP2. I created a new instance of the server using "Add Server" so that I have 2 Web sites (e.g. test1.domain.com and test2.domain.com), but the 2nd server instance is pointing to the same HTML location as the first (i.e. http://test2.domain.com takes you to the same location as http://test1.domain.com). What do I need to change and where to fix this? Need a VERY quick answer to this to implement a production Web server. I've tried the suggestions made so far (see: http://softwareforum.sun.com/servlet/ProcessRequest?RHIVEID=181&RPAGEID=135&HOID=50B500000008000000966A0000&UCATEGORY_0=_23_%24_6_&UCATEGORY_S=0&USEARCHCONTEXT_QUESTION_0=server+instances&USEARCHCONTEXT_QUESTION_S=0) but nothing has resolved this problem. If you have any ideas at all, I'd appreciate if you could let me know :)
    Thanks!

On a personal side, I use CCleaner and it is ok.

  • Cleaning the iAS registry

    Hello,
We have developpement and staging iASes that are used to developp and
    test many j2ee applications.
After a while, those server end by being in an unclean state : lot of
use (and sometimes probably misuse) have caused some application to be
    not totaly removed :
using kregedit, I can find registered servlets from applications that
are not present any more in $GX_ROOTDIR/APPS, or from older versions.
Consequently, deploying new versions of those applications, which we
think are not present any more, sometimes cause unexpected behaviours.
I would like to know if there are ways (or tools) to rebuild the iAS
registry, or at least to remove entries from applications that are
    obviously not deployed any more.
    thanx
    regards

    Hi,
There is no tool which helps to remove entries from the iAS registry.
When you use the undeploy correctly, then the entries from the registry
will get removed automatically. Hope this helps.
    Regards
    Raj

When starting iTunes I continually get an error message " The registry Settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing.  This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."  I have unistalled and reinstalled iTunes several times and have cleaned up the registry using a 3rd party Windows utility.  Any tips on removing this error message for good?

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

  • Problem in the Registry

My Blackberry Desktop 6.0 would only open up displaying a white screen.  I was told to uninstall and reinstall.  I did that a couple of times, no good.  I am now following the directions contain here for a clean uninstall: http://bbry.lv/crtVBZ and I am doing everything as an administrator.
I found a lot of Blackberry software in the Registry.  I have been able to delete a lot of these manually.  I have about 10 keys that I am having a lot of trouble getting rid of.  Here is one for instance: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Enum\WpdBusEnumRoot\UMB\2&37c186b&1&STORAGE#VOLUME#1&19F7E59C&0&_??_USBSTOR#DISK&VEN_RIM&PROD_BLACKBERRY_SD&REV_0003#7&1B074D36&0&0423F0E1E034F688A284163DE051BF027ADA9D75&0#\Properties\{83da6326-97a6-4088-9453-a1923f573b29}.
I can not get this deleted.  I give myself the correct permissions and ownership.  I continue to get an access denied when I try to delete.  Can anyone help with this?

Sorry, did not mean to post that last one.
I found out that having MULTIPLE MONITORS was messing up the Desktop 6.0.  I took my computer to the local computer repair to have them look at the registry issue that I originally mentioned.  It turns out that it was not the registry that was causing the problem, but my having multiple monitors was causing it.
I left my laptop with the repairman to clean up my registry and download Desktop 6.0.  When I returned, he said that the repair was complete, Desktop 6.0 was downloaded and working fine.  I got home and reconnected my monitors, and Desktop 6.0 kept giving me a white screen over and over again.
I immediately took my laptop back to the technician to get him to look at it again.  We turned my laptop on in his office and Desktop 6.0 worked fine.  It also works fine here at my office, as long as I do not have my other 2 monitors connected.
In addition to my laptop monitor, I also have 2 other monitors, one connected to the laptop's video port and another through a USB interface.  I have my Desktop shared across all three monitors.
The original Blackberry Desktop that I had installed with the CD that came with the Blackberry had worked fine with all 3 monitors.  Desktop 6.0 never did.

  • How to change Windows 7 file associations in the registry

    Hi,
I have a group of computers that have Office 2010 installed and then PowerPoint Viewer 2007 was installed after that to temporarily resolve an SCCM 2007 patching issue. Needless to say, PowerPoint Viewer 2007 changed some of the PowerPoint 2010 file associations
to itself instead. I am scripting a clean-up operation to remove PowerPoint Viewer 2007 and set the file associations back to PowerPoint 2010. After doing some research, the few registry paths commonly called out do not contain the information that I am looking
    to change.
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts
The file associations that I need to set back to PowerPoint 2010 are as follows:
.potm, .potx, .ppsm, .ppsx, .pptm, .pptx
Does anybody know where to look for where these file associations are set in the registry?
    Thanks,
    Rob

This is how it is done in vbscript as well:
    http://www.visualbasicscript.com/tm.aspx?high=&m=97211&mpage=1#97217
    Set objShell = Wscript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
    objShell.RegWrite "HKCR\.potm\", "PowerPoint.TemplateMacroEnabled.12", "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite "HKCR\.potx\", "PowerPoint.Template.12", "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite "HKCR\.ppsm\", "PowerPoint.SlideShowMacroEnabled.12", "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite "HKCR\.ppsx\", "PowerPoint.SlideShow.12", "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite "HKCR\.pptm\", "PowerPoint.ShowMacroEnabled.12", "REG_SZ"
    objShell.RegWrite "HKCR\.pptx\", "PowerPoint.Show.12", "REG_SZ"
One thing to note is that the user will need to log out and log in again to reload the changes to the registry which also updates the change to the file extensions.

  • Uninstalling HHActiveX.dll from the Registry?

I am using RoboHelp 7.03.001. I have ActiveX features, such as a Glossary, in my projects. I am providing the CHM file and the HHActiveX.dll file to the developer. Everything help-wise works great. The problem is that the developer wants the HHActiveX.dll file to be removed from the registry when the user uninstalls our product, but it does not uninstall.
Is the version of HHActiveX.dll that we are using (7.01.001) the current version? (Would that matter?)
If there is a more current version, where can I download it. (I recently updated RH to v7.03, but the DLL is still 7.01, if that matters.)
Is there a process that I can pass on to our developer so that he can remove the file from the registry as part of his uninstall process?
    Thanks!
    Karla Marsh

    Hi there
Leaving HHActiveX.dll behind shouldn't be an issue. Sure, I understand that your developer wants to do a good job in cleaning up after him/her self, but how can you be absolutely certain you aren't clobbering the help for a different product that uses RoboHelp?
There is nothing special about this file that your developer should need to know to remove it. It is registered like you register other DLLs. So whatever has to happen with those happens with this one.
    Cheers... Rick
