Cleaning tracks

I would like to clean some tracks in log and cache files sush as Cleanse does but I want to do it automatically at specified time or during logoff. My problems are :
1) Cleanse does the job perfectly but it's not scriptable
2) My user accout doesn't have admin right
I think that one or some script pluged to the crontab may be able to do this :

Yeah, you have to decide whether you want to include absolutely everything in your Project folder (you would if you wanted to take the logic file and everything that you needed for it to work on a someone else's set-up, for example) or whether you want to save the particular requirements for that specific project and make sure they're all there so that nothings missing when you go back to it in two years time (still assuming you're working with the same plug-ins and so on..)
No-one can exactly take account of the future, so it makes sense to consider the basic stuff, anyway, but there isn't much point to saving samples from Ultrabeat or the EXS 24 if you're just going to keep bringing the project up on your own machine, all those samples are in the Library to be used on any project, it only matters if you do something to change them ?

  • In GB, I need to insert an audio track. When I try, it obliterates part of the adjacent bridge (track). How can I insert an audio track in an audio timeline without stepping all over clean material? Is it possible to recover the "clean" track bridge?

Am doing an audio timeline in GB. Need to insert a corrected section of track. When I try the insert, it knocks out the top part of the adjacent track bridge/element. How can I insert cleanly in a timeline? Is it possible to "recover" the good track that was "stepped on?"

    Undo what?
    Insert in a new track?
I don't think so. I've started an audio book and I'm doing chapter long segments (assuming I can make simple corrections, such as ones made in iMovie and numerous other video editing programs. Routine edits in GB are simple and intuitive. I cannot wrap my mind around the fact that I'm prevented from doing a simple drag and drop, import or paste a two-sentence audio clip. Nor can I find any reference to straightforward audio elements.
Any suggestions you might have would be appreciated.

  • Cleaning track pad button

Ok im an idiot, I spilt a small ammount of fruit juice on the track pad of my Mac Book. now the button sticks it still works though. Is there a safe, relatively easy way to clean this?

Somedays, my hand smeared with Malaysia oil for muscular pain relief, but after massage, I forgot to wash my hand, so it has some oil in my finger. When I touched the touch pad of my black Macbook, the oil penetrate inside. I immediately used tissue to wipe it off but the stain is somehow like u using marker to draw on the touch pad , means can't removed... I don't know what to do, anyone can help, if Apple Repair provide service to replace the surface of such touch pad???Coz' the condition for mine is serious.

  • What is the deal with iTunes matching Explicit tracks with Clean tracks?

At first, I thought this was great. I started matching all of my music with iTunes versions. Got about halfway through, and realized some songs on some albums were explicit, and others were clean. At first, I thought it was cause there was only a Clean Version of the album available on iTunes, so I resolved that problem, just don't match albums that there isn't an Explicit version for. But for example, Lil' Wayne's Tha Carter 3, the version I have had 23 songs. iTunes didn't have the Target bonus tracks, as I expected, so I didn't worry about those, and matched the rest. Songs like A Milli is explicit like it's suppose to be, but on the same album, Mrs. Officer is Clean. I don't understand how that's possible, I figure it would match a full album, but that doesn't seem to be the case. So because of that, some of these albums I've matched so far may not be matched as full albums, but rather whatever version of the songs iTunes first matches, so the mastering for a full album could be completely different all over the album because of this.
Anyone know any kind of fix for this, or is this not something that could be fixed?

Interesting tid bit.  I created an AAC of the original file, deleted the original MP3 from my library and also deleted the Clean matched track from the icloud.
Result is that it matched with the explicit version of Mrs. Officer this time.
What I am curious about is which songs this is happening for. I've went thru a few batched of about 500 songs at a time and redownloaded in 256k for many tracks. Sadly we don't have people to bring this to our attention and I have so much music that it's impossible to go thru every song to make sure I am getting the right version.

  • Newly created tracks (audio or aux) default to names/patches from old deleted tracks?

Hey all. I was an extremely heavy user of Logic 9 and still am of X, and I've worked out more problems than I care to remember in both programs, but this one has me totally stumped.
When I create new tracks, they're using patches from old tracks I've already deleted. There are not saved patches either-- Logic is just remembering the names, effects, and routing of tracks I deleted earlier in my work session and using them instead of clean tracks. Create a new auxillary track? It defaults to Ultrabeat inputs (UB 13-14, let's say) and various effects (Bitcrusher, Chorus, etc) that were used on long-since-deleted Drum Machine tracks. Create a set of new audio tracks? They use the names ("Luke Vox", "Nick Clean Vox") and effects of old, long-deleted audio tracks that I used to have.
This is a project file I got from a friend who is not necessarily as well versed in Logic X so it's entirely possible that something just got ticked or routed weirdly or who knows what. Any ideas?

  • How to import 2 separate audio tracks and keep them separate?

I need advice about importing two separate simultaneous audio tracks and keeping them separate. I am importing footage from my Sony PDX-10 DV Cam.
In the field I had wireless microphones on two people, a man and woman. I interviewed them separately. The man was on channel 1 and the woman was on channel 2.
While shooting the man, for example, I could also hear the open mic of the woman who was maybe a block away talking to some friends. But her distracting sound was on CH 2 and in playback on the camera, if I dial down the volume of CH 2, I no longer hear the woman and I have a clean audio track, Ch 1, of the man who is being filmed.
I'm trying to import the interviews into iMovies with only the relevant track turned up and the distracting track turned down. When I listen to the audio from the camera on my headsets, I can get clean sound of just the person who is on camera. But the FIREWIRE seems to grab both tracks, even though in playback i'm listening only to the clean track.
Does anyone know how I can send just one audio track to IMovie? Any way to prevent the Firewire from importing both Ch 1 and Ch 2 at the same time?
I only want the sound that's relevant to the person who is on camera. And I know that in the camera, it's possible to listen to just the track from one channel. I'm hearing just one track through the headsets, because I can sucessfully dial down the other track. That's the way I want to import the footage to iMovie. But the FIrewire seems to grab all the sound it can find and carry over both CH 1 and CH 2, which means I'm left with a jumble of sound that is not useful.
And finally, if the firewire needs to grab both tracks, is there a way to assign them to two separate tracks in iMovie, so I can then simply turn one of the tracks off?

    nope.
iM handles the two stereo-channels as "one track", and offers 3 tracks of stereo.. (the one inside the video, 2 additional tracks...)
    I would... :
    * export clip(s) share/Quicktime/Expert Settings/aiff..
    * in a designated audio processor (Garageband, Audacity, ...) seperate the two channels, creating two "new" ones, stereo, where one channel is located in the stereo middle..
    * import these two "stereo" files into iM, into Track2 and Track 3 ...

  • Stabilizing footage then tracking for 3D compositing

Hi. I am working on a project where I want to stabilize 4K red footage and then crop in on this footage reframing the shots. Then tracking this cropped footage in a seperate program and compositing 3D models into the footage. Is this the right way to do this?
Problems I am having... Tracking software not creating clean track of stabilised cropped footage. But because the footage is 4K red I do not want to track and comp in 3D models before stabilizing. Because render times on 3D would be to big to output at 4k.
Am I missing something here... Should me work flow be different?
    Thanks for any help.
Also does the warp stabilizer actually warp the footage? Could this be affecting my tracking?

Also does the warp stabilizer actually warp the footage? Could this be affecting my tracking?
    Yes and yes.
Is this the right way to do this?
No, it isn't. By warping and cropping the footage you make the 3D tracking think it would be operating on a different lens with variable zoom, resulting in a completely whacked out camera solve. Hence your problems. For what you have in mind, Warp Stabilizer is the wrong tool to begin with. If any stabilization is required, you do it based on the solved 3D camera which can be anything from smoothing the track in the matchmoving software to doing the same in AE after your 3D stuff  has been rendered. And nobody asks you to render at 4k. As long as the proportions and aspect ratio are retained, you can do your 3D renders at any res or scale the scene to fit.

  • After doing "remove from iCloud", songs are actually still up there!

I noticed a strange thing. I uploaded my own bands songs to iCloud via iTunes Match. There was some problem with the custom artwork and it got really messy (ID3 tags somehow couldn't be edited anymore in iTunes), so I decided to delete every trace of the songs from either OSX/iOS or iCloud.
So I deleted them from my library and deleted them from my iCloud ("also delete from iCloud"). They of course disappeared from iCloud on all my iOS devices.
I then copied "clean" tracks without any ID3 tags (the only thing that remained the same were the file names) to my hard drive and then imported them to the iTunes Library and turned on iTunes Match
To my surprise, iTunes Match MATCHED THEM and did not re-upload them. That means they stayed in iCloud despite the "delete from iCloud" step...
    How is that possible?
That is a big problem, because lets say I upload 128kbit mp3 of an Album that cannot be matched. Then I decide to dig up the original CD, re-rip it in 256Kbit AAC and re-upload to iCloud. But how can this be done, if the old version still remains in the iCloud, even after "delete from iCloud" step in iTunes???

    Hi,
I presume the iCloud status was originally shown as Uploaded. Are you saying that the iCloud status is now showing matched? I am not convinced that previously deleted songs are removed from apple's database. I have noticed that previously deleted songs are automatically show as uploaded immediately without going through the upload process again!!
However, if you re-ripped a cd at 256kbs AAC in place of a 128 mp3, i think that the new version would be matched or uploaded.

  • Some User Tips (January 2012)

This assumes iTunes 10.5.2, as this is the current version as of this writing.  Doing a brain-dump of some of the more common questions that have come up, and the ones I've personally tested.
    1) I'm stuck at StepX / it's taking a long time to complete.
This is probably the most common question I've seen here.   There seems to be a few factors as to how long it takes the Matching process to complete:
1- Your library size. Self-explanatory - the bigger the library, the longer the process will take.
2- How many uploads you end up having.   This is harder to gauge, but if you end up with a lot of uploads, it will take a lot longer for the process to complete.  If you have a lot of albums that you know do not exist on iTunes, or a lot of old CD's that have since been remastered (see bullet 2) then it's a good guess that the process will take longer.
3- Your ISP's upload speed.  If you have a lot of uploads, the speed to complete will be directly related to your ISP's upload speed.   This is a second number they give you - so, for example, if your ISP's numbers are 15/2, it's 15Mbps down and 2Mbps up.  That's 250KB/sec up, which is at best ~850MB per hour.   So, assuming a large number of uploads, this could take quite a while to complete.
4- Overloading on the iTunes server infrastructure.  This doesn't seem to be as much of a problem as of this writing.   But when the service was initially rolled out in the US, and also in other countries, it was definitely a major factor.  Whenever there's a new iTunes version or if a new country is added, I would expect potential issues for a few days.   Also, I would check the iCloud Status page before running an initial Match -- http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/systemstatus/
    2) Why is my very common artist CD rip not matching 100%?
There are many theories about this, but I believe the most likely reason for most common CD's not matching is mastering.  You've probably seen the term "re-mastered" alot, but what it essentially means is that the sound engineers have gone back to the original masters and tweaked the sound in certain ways.   Now since iTunes Match is primarily doing waveform analysis for matching, these slight variations between a CD master and whatever master iTunes is using could throw off the matching process enough to make it an upload, instead.
The Beatles' "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window" is a perfect example of this.  The version the older 80's CD does not match, but the 2009 remaster does match.  I'm convinced that it's because the iTunes database has the 2009 master and that there are enough differences between the two versions that the matching process is thrown off.
    3) I don't want an album to Match, I actually want it to Upload.  Is there are way to force an upload?
Not as of this writing (Jan 2012).   I've requested a "force upload" option already and I would recommend that everyone do the same.   An example of this is the Beatles in Mono - some of those tracks end up matching with stereo versions, which you may not want.
You could also do some very tedious waveform changes in a sound editing tool to alter them enough to force an upload, but it's really not feasible to do this on a mass scale.
    4) My song Matched, but it's still showing as 128kps in iTunes.  Where's my 256kps version?
It's in iCloud, but because iTunes does not delete your local version, you see that local version by default.  Some people dislike this, but I think it's a good compromise as if gives the user the option to either keep all their local music intact or to delete them manually later.   It's up to you.  When you delete a song post-Match, you'll see an option to delete the iCloud version.  If you choose not to delete that version, which is the default, then only your local copy is deleted and you are left with the iCloud version only.
Also, I would recommend enabling the "iCloud Status" column, in your Album List.  It's very helpful to visualize what the status is of your songs.  And here's a guide to what the icons mean:   http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4124
    5) Once the Match process completes, can I delete all my local music on my PC?
This question comes up a lot for some reason, so I added it here.  The answer is that yes, you can delete your local files once they are in iCloud.  But the question you should really be asking yourself is "should I?".   The reason why I mention this are that there have been many reports of mis-matched files -- explicit tracks becoming clean tracks, mono tracks becoming stereo tracks, live tracks becoming studio tracks etc.   In my opinion, it's still a good idea to have your original files backed up somewhere locally, like an external hard drive.  But again it's completely up to you.
    6) I have some vinyl and cassettes that I've ripped to MP3's - will these work with iTunes Match?
I have tested both and, imo, you should NOT expect a high success rate with these rips.   There are a lot of factors in play and results definitely vary - in my case, I've found that things like pitch and speed have a direct impact on matching, so if your tape player or turntable belt is not locked in the right pitch your results will suffer.  Also you need to match the start and end silence with whatever is used in iTunes, which can be a very tedious process with a lot of trial and error.
Overall, I'd say that if you are trying to match vinyl / cassettes as just a supplement to your main CD rips, it might be worth trying.  But if vinyl / cassette matching is your main reason for getting the service, then you will likely be disappointed.
    7) Is there a way to get around the 25K library limit?
As of this writing, the only workaround is to create separate libraries.  This will at least allow the Matching process to run, if the library in question is smaller than 25K songs.  But you still have an overall 25K limit (sans purchased tracks) in iCloud itself.
    8) It says I can have up to 10 devices, but I'm getting a "5 Authorized Computers maximum" error.
You can have up to 10 devices, but only up to 5 computers.   That sounds a little confusing, but think of it this way -- a system with iTunes is a "computer" as well as a "device", but an iOS system is only a "device".   So you can't have more than 5 computers using iCloud, the rest would need to be iOS devices before you reach the overall max limit of 10.
    9) My files are showing up as "ineligible".
Check your file format, your kps rate and file sizes, as there are some limitations.  You can find more details here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4054
    10) I'm not satisfied with this service - can I cancel?
The answer is "most likely no".  In the Terms of Service, it mentions that the service is not refundable.  But, If you feel that the service is not doing what's been advertised, I would suggest calling them and stating your case - there have been reports of some people getting a refund, if their concerns are deemed justified.
One caveat however, and something the rep may not tell you : If you do manage to secure a refund, you are not permitted to re-subscribe for one year.  So if the services gets an upgrade later that actually corrects issues that caused you to initially cancel, you might have to wait it out to try it out again.
    11) Where are the other Apple iTunes Match support docs?
check out this excellent post from JiminMissouri -- https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3619849
    Hope this helps!

    SteedGun wrote:
Good information but the service just stinks.  I have been at this for 5 days.  I have 2269 tracks and Match is locked at 1840 and has been locked there for days!  After multiple reboots, restarts, etc.  This is the worst Apple solution in 25 years.  I go back all the way to the original Mac.  Either they have not provisioned enough bandwidth or they just have flaws.  Either way they had better get it fixed soon or this one will give them a big BLACK EYE!
I believe my comment in section 1.4 (about new countries being rolled out) is definitely a factor with the current issues.  I literally saw the service go from speedy to completely borked, about 36 hours ago.

  • Why can't I open project created in MacBook Pro on Mac Mini?

I mixed a fairly simple project on my MacBook. And I cannot open it on my Mini; L8 freezes and crashes. Is the file too big? Too many plugins? ???? I am completely baffled.
I don't expect an answer, but hey, no harm in trying.

Depends on whether you like doing puzzles or not...
If you do, by all means try to fix it. Try some or all of the following: bypass inserts (either or both); bounce the audio; try the audio alone in Quicktime; check the sample rate & bit depth of the audio file; freeze the track; move the audio to a newly created audio track and delete the old one...
On the other hand, if you're on a schedule, forget it. There are too many bugs in Logic and, even if we could diagnose the problem and fill in Apple's tedious bug form, you won't get it fixed in a month of Sundays. Grab your audio file and put it into a clean track in a new project, add the inserts and bring in the rest of your work.
Sometimes, Apple turns us into their unpaid testers/problem reporting team and, frankly I think we should all be making music.
Of course, your mileage may vary

  • Imovie/Garageband - Effects dont come through on isight recording

So im recording via iSight into iMovie while playing my guitar via GarageBand. Everything is great except when i play it back - iMovie has stripped out all the effects in the audio (flange, delay, etc) are completely gone and all i am heard to be playing is naked guitar into GB.
    Help?
    Thanks

I had the same problem. It sounds great while you're recording but it's an illusion of sorts. All that I-Movie is actually recording is the input (pre- Garageband) of your guitar. You need to get GB and I- Movie recording just as you have. Then before your actual GB mix starts to play make a loud sudden hand clap. The hand clap will show up as a large waveform 'spike' both in GB and I-Movie. Okay? After you're done, go to the mix you created in Garageband. Click on 'track' in the upper edit area (file, edit, track, control etc) and enable 'show movie track'. This will open the movie track at the top of your arrange window in GB. Click on the 'media browser' tab bottom right of same screen. You will have the option to open the movie you just created. Click on the thumbnail of that movie and drag it to the 'movie track' you just enabled in Garageband. You will now see the movie with it's cleanaudio AND the Garageband mix with your guitar sounding the way you want. Look for that hand clap spike you made just before your mix started. Line that up with your movie 'spike' and you will be in perfect sync! Then, just mute the clean track in your movie audio and let Garageband be the soundtrack. It works like a charm. ~King

  • Firewire hubs recommendations please...

I have 2 x LaCie Mini 250G firewire drives which I have been using with my Mini G4 by daily chaining them. I occasionally get I/O errors when the drives are under high load. I then need to do a hard reset to get the machine responding again.
I have tested without the 2nd drive connected and the problem seems to have been resolved. It appears the LaCie drives do not work well if daily chained - problem with the firewire bus <?>.
I am thinking about getting a firewire hub which I am hoping will solve the I/O error problem.
Does anyone have an experience or recommendations on which type of firewire hub to purchase?
    Thanks.

    Hello Hattori Hanzo,
Based on personal experience, and a lot of correspondance with others in the forums over the last couple of years, I would recommend a Belkin Mfg. hub. Others may work as well, but it seems that Belkin has a completely clean track record to date, of being compatable with Apple products.
Cory Cooper's suggestion seems like an elegant solution for a mini. If it were any other mfg. but Belkin, I would suggest that you stay away from combo USB/FW hubs as there have been reports of problems. But again, based on the above recommendation, and the product coming from Belkin, I'd say you've got your answer.
    Respectfully,

  • Why such sorry sound quality on iTunes? On some of my purchases the sound level is suppressed on the audio. On others the volume is so low that if I have it set for another song and a new one starts I have to increase the volume to hear it.

There is so much distortion on some of the music I have to play it with QuickTime to get a "clean" track.
What can be done to get a consistent volume level or is this another typical Apple product that you have to take what you get and be happy because it's not a Microsoft product?

If that's the best you can do why don't you get on another forum?

  • Can you "unsend" audio from Soundtrack?

Okay, so I sent audio to Soundtrack and removed noise. My producer wanted a clean track for client rough cut.
Now I'm ready to export an OMF for ProTools using Automatic Duck. Is there a way to reset the audio that was sent to Soundtrack as though it was never sent in the first place? If I can't will the "sent" clips be exported in the OMF with the soundtrack filters applied?

You'd have to re edit the old sound in. but if you export, the soundtraack improved files will be in the OMF...
