How do I clean up duplicate contacts from my iphone 5?

1st - Make sure that they are really duplicates. Common issue is that people sync iPhones with a number of accounts and they have the same contacts in them. If you go to your Contacts it probably displays All - by default. Try displaying individual accounts Contacts and see if that makes more sense.
If youare sure you have duplicates - it will be manual removal I'm afraid. Unless you can do it from a computer where you have your accounts connected.

Cleaning up duplicate contacts and calendar entries

I have a Treo 700wx, that I sync with Outlook, rarely with Active Sync - mostly with wireless sync (intellisync). My input methods vary, depending upon where I am. At home, I add/delete/modify calendar entries and contacts in Outlook on my laptop; at the office, I add/delete/modify same on wirelesssync.vzw.com; on the road, I make my edits right on the Treo.
At this point, I have in some cases as many as 12 occurrences of the same calendar entry, 3 - 11 occurrences of many of my contacts, etc. I just want to get it cleaned up. Does anyone know with which system I should start and what the best approach might be? I'm afraid of losing information that I need. A diagram of how wireless sync works with each device and in what order between devices might help me...not sure. I have no problems with email duplicates, oddly. (why is that?)
I would be so grateful for help with this.

Are you using iCloud as well as Outlook? You say Outlook 7, are you referring to Outlook 2007, or something else, as there is no Outlook 7. What computer OS are you using? If you go to the bottom of the screen when looking at your calendar and tap on the word Calendars, what is listed there?

Wow kris71! That's a lot of duplicate contacts! Apple has some great steps at http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4147 to help resolve duplicate contacts. There are also third-party applications through the iTunes store https://itunes.apple.com that will clean up duplicate contacts on Apple products, but I would highly recommend going through Apple's support suggestions first.

How can I get rid of and prevent further duplicate contacts when syncing?

I have checked preventing automatic syncing and any other places that seemed to give me some limiting conrol. But I noted the tiny print today that says when syncing by connection with Itunes, mobile me is also in contact wirelessly. I can't see any place mobile me gives me a choice to prevent syncing contacts. I have already spent hours cleaning up the contacts of my iphone 4 and will now have to do it again. Is the only way not to connect to I tunes? How then can you ever get music and other info into this smart phone?

How can I clean up my contacts?

Just got the new iPhone & I have a LOT of redundancy in my Contacts list. Just wondering if there is a faster/easier way to clean that up instead of going through them one at a time?? For example, there are 5 entries for my daughter: 1 for each of her email addresses and another with her cell & home phone in it. Can those all be merged into one?? Help please.

Did you save them to BackUp Assistant? If so, you can log in to http://bit.ly/OwsVcd to remove the duplicates.
If you have the contacts saved to Google, you should log in to your contacts via computer to delete any duplicates.

Icloud sync created duplicate contacts...can't get rid of them

Ever since I began syncing my iPhone via iCloud, multiple entries have popped up in my Contacts. In some cases I'll have 4 or 5 duplicate Contacts when I started with just one. I tried deleting them manually (which took forever) but they just come back.
I tried shutting off iCloud sync and doing it the old way, but I realized that many contacts were missing. (i.e. I must have deleted them from locations other than iCloud, and that's the only place where they reside now.)
I feel stuck. This is very frustrating. iCloud was supposed to make my life easier and it's screwing things up. Any suggestions?
PS - I have an iMac running OS X 10.8.4 and an iPhone 5.

My Contacts Backup Pro has a 4+ rating, but it's up to you if you want to try it or not. If you haven't done so already, you might want to take a look at Apple's KB article on duplicate iCloud contacts: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4147. It's not a very common problem, and can be caused by things like attempting to sync contacts with both iCloud and iTunes.
If you have cleaned up your contacts only to see duplicates reappear on their own, you might need to get iCloud support to help you with this one as it's a rare problem. Then may need to have a senior engineer take a look at your account to determine what's causing it.

Merge or remove duplicate contacts

I imported contacts into my wife's iCloud account. Now I see she has a few duplicates. I can clean up her contacts manually, of course—it's not a long list—but is there a slick trick I can use to make it easy to find, merge, or duplicate duplicates?

No, there are no tricks.
If syncing contacts from multiple cloud services, there will almost always been duplicates.

Duplicate contacts on Mac and BB pearl 8220

Why does Desktop software create duplicate address on my Address Book and on my BB 8220? I'm using MacBook Pro OS X 10.7.4 and BB Desktop 2.3.1 build 5. I have MSFT Office 2011 also. Outlook also has duplicate contacts. Does BB Desktop synchronize contacts to MSFT Outlook or Mac Address Book or both? It may be getting confused between both programs.

Up to this point I have not used iCloud because of the various problems I have read about... But with recent changes in the OS and iOS I need to use iCloud to regain some functionality that I recently lost when I upgraded to OS 10.9. I have purchased the ebook "Take Control of iCloud" and you can be sure that I will read it cover-to-cover.
At any rate, merging the dupes sorta cleaned up things but I had to manually delete some contacts as well as the duplicate groups. Fortunately, my Contacts aren't that numerous...!

Iphone 4s creates duplicate contacts after connecting to office 365 services

I have a client that has an iphone 4s after she synchronized her iphone with an office 365 online services account(its exchange 2010).
now the phone keep creating duplicate contacts (even after I delete them they keep apearing).
microsoft says its an apple problem what can be done?

In Mid-August, 2012, this problem still continues and I am unaware any fix to the problem.
I am running iOS 5.1 on iPhone 4S
Outlook (Hosted Exchange) 365
WIndows 7
Outlook 2010 client
Initial setup:
Contacts clean and no duplicates in Hosted Exchange & Outlook 2010
Zero contacts in the iPad and iPhone before syncing with Exchange services
Same condition with iPhone
Same condition with iPad
iTunes not involved, no syncing ever (and no [email protected] ever created.)
iCloud Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Notes all turned off
Connected with Exchange with legit user name, password and server domain, togel soft switches on the Exchange Mail, Contacts, Calenday and Labels/Reminders.
iPhone receives synced contacts (and email and calendar and notes) from Exchange Active Sync
User is fine until he/she searches for a contact via iOS device.
As searches continue , user believes that Contacts crash (quit unexpectedly and return to main iOS app page.
Duplicates begin to display on the iOS device that Contacts crashed on.
IF the user then edits one of the phantom duplicate contacts, the record duplicatiuon begins to grow in Outlook Contacts. But if no pantom editing happens, the duplications continues only on the iOS device and the contacts begin to appear in tripples and more .
If you are having this problem, please post it, so that if Apple ever reads these boards, they see the problem is not isolated to a few and they begin to understand that the iOS devices will be jetisoned from enterprise customers because problems like this should be acknoledged and resolved on a MUCH more timely manner.

Need help to acheive Duplicate Contacts detector

I need to develop a feature in which my app would detect all the duplicate contacts of the user. A user can have many contacts. App shall find all his contacts which match on the basis of email, name and mobile number.
I am quite confused as what can be the logic here? Where should I do this work? Should I do it in a stored procedure or will something work in Java. I am using Hibernate as the ORM tool. Can I use some of the features of hibernate for this problem?
If I go by simple algorithm then I would probably have to make n database requests where n is the number of contacts.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

You can certainly do it in a stored proc.
Unless you are going to do it a lot then it doesn't matter.
Although "many" might come into play there. 10 is nothing. 100,000 is.

Please advise me on the steps necessary for removing these duplicates and establishing a syncing solution that doesn't regenerate the duplicates. There are several applications available that remove duplicates, but I am not sure which ones work or don't work. I want information on this, but most importantly I want to understand how to fix this problem permanently. Also, I read somewhere that Mac's new operating system, Lion, can help deal with duplicates. I don't have Lion, but I would be willing to get it, if this would fix the problem.

Had the same problem with 4 devices (two computers, an iPhone and an iPod). The solution is simple: open the Address Book application in your mac, ask it to locate duplicate entries (under one of the top menu items, "edit" I think), and then ask it to consolidate them: it took me all of three seconds after I figured it out: worked like a charm! PS: if you have more than one mac with unconected Address Books, repeating the operation in the second one may be a good idea.
