Cleaning up my BlackBerry!

Hello everyone!
For quite a while now i have been installing & uninstalling apps on my BB, when i look at the file system there ore tons of files & remnants left from old unwanted apps, would anybody by any chance know if there is an app or some method to "clean" my phone'ƨ "registry" & delete old unwanted files even after they have been uninstalled ???
I would really appreciate any help!
Best regards & thank you!

Did you go to www.bbid.com on a computer? Don't try and do it on your BB.

  • Can't upgrade or clean install new Blackberry Link in Win 8 32 bit system

    Hi Helpers,
I cant install the New BB Link version on my system - (the previous version ran perfectly).
Whether I try to update or clean install (old version now uninstalled). I get a pane saying that Microsoft visual C ++ 2008 Sp1 redistributable - W8  needs to be installed first.
The process starts that install - but alwayys fails.  After that the BB Link install just closes.
I can't seem to attach any screenshots (be helpful to be able to 'navigate' to them rather than type in a path).  But I havepasted below the full txt contained in the 'windows installer' pane that appears when the install fails.
Can anyone suggest any way to correct this problem please?  Btw, the new BB Link installs perfectly onto Windows 7.
Thanks in anticipation.  (On trying to post, I was informed that some invalid HTML has been removed - presumably that was in the 'paste' but I've no idea what it was or whether it affects anything, sorry).
    Regards, gil69.

  • Cleaning screen for Blackberry 8320

I'm wondering what the safe way to clean the screen is. I've been keeping my Blackberry in my pocket, and while there haven't been any sharp objects there to scratch it, the screen has gotten dirty. A dry microfiber cloth, otherwise used for cleaning my glasses, isn't taking it off. Any suggestions?

I have a screen protector on BB which is ALWAYS a good idea, although that's not the point. Anyway, are you sure it's like pocket dirt? I know it sounds gross but sometimes if I have been on the phone along time the screen gets a gritty like film on it. I'm guessing it's from sweat but it looks like spit. So I just lick my finger one and wipe it off and then use the microfiber cloth to clean the fingerprints. Paper towels are probably too abrasive and toilet paper and kleenex fall apart. So I don't think a slight bit of moisture will damage your phone. Especially if it is only on the screen and not enough liquid to get near and seams on the phone.

  • Cleaning Memory (Blackberry device default cleaner)

Hey folks... I have the Curve 8530 and Boost Mobile is my carrier,,,
In my readings of Blackberry Support or the "Help" part of the phone, I was reading. Information about the Cleaning the content cache and I am very certain that I read that the devices default memory cleaner was not designed for every day use and that a third party app is recommended...
Now... Whenever I am deleting cache history whenever I backout with the Escape key I get a popup appear wich reads "CLEANING MEMORY" .. Now with what I read and with the device using an apparant default or device memory cleaner every time I backout of Browser Options,,, is tha hurting my device using the cleaner for that? I bought the phone new and never changed a setting in that area pertaining to "memory ceaning. Do I need to download a cleaner for that action?

    Hi huntmarv,

  • Cleanly "Starting Over" with the Desktop Software (non-BES)

    Hi there,
With the advances in the RIM Desktop Software, there have been many posts about the upgrade process resulting in less than functional situations. The process I recommend is to cleanly start completely over, cleaning all remnants of the Desktop Software from the PC, and perhaps even clearing the content databases from the BlackBerry SmartPhone (on the assumption that the Desktop Organizer app has complete and correct data).
To do this, I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista/Win7, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything that you can. Additionally, if you are truly concerned about your data, then you should first copy (for Outlook, to a PST) your contacts, calendar, memos, and tasks...just to be sure, in case of something catastrophic.
There are some reports that a Windows user profile (type 'echo %userprofile%' in the command prompt) that contains spaces might cause the installer to fail. In order to solve this issue, log out of your Windows account and log back in using the local Administrator account (or any other account name without spaces, but with full admin rights) and install the desktop (for all users).
    1) Remove any/all BlackBerry Device Software package(s) from your PC
Add/remove programs, Uninstall, etc. depending on your Windows OS level
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM Desktop Software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
Some have reported the manual search and removal of RIM, BB, and Puma registry keys to be helpful.
Do not attempt this if you are at all unsure -- editing your registry incorrectly can render your entire PC useless!
Others have reported the use of a registry cleansing tool to also be helpful
Still others have reported the use of your original PIM (e.g., Outlook, NOTES, etc.) installation CD, running the "repair" process, to be helpful in some situations
    3) Get a fresh download of the RIM Desktop Software:
    http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your BlackBerry Device Software package from your carrier -- it must be the version that your BlackBerry is already running (otherwise, the Desktop Software will attempt to change the version that is running on your BlackBerry):
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
KB23393 How to check the model number and version of installed BlackBerry device software on a BlackBerry smartphone
    5) Install the Desktop Software to your PC -- do not allow it to start
    6) Install (also to your PC), the BlackBerry Device Software package -- do not allow it to start the Desktop Software
If the package came from a carrier other than that for which your BlackBerry was originally manufactured, then after this install step completes, you must delete, from your PC, at least one copy, and possibly two, of VENDOR.XML.
One will for sure be here (or something quite similar, depending on your Windows OS):
    c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    The other might be here:
    c:\Users\<insert your user name>\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
    7) Start the Desktop Software and connect your BlackBerry to your PC (USB) when prompted.
    8) OPTIONAL -- if you truly want a clean start over AND you are 100% sure that the data in your PC Desktop Organizer (e.g., Outlook) is accurate, then, at this point, you can clear the BlackBerry of all Organizer data so that you can start over fresh, using your PC Organizer data as master:
KB10167 How to clear the user content databases from the BlackBerry smartphone
    9) Start the organizer configuration over:
KB03315 How to synchronize organizer data (calendar, task list, memo list, and contact list) using the BlackBerry Desktop Software
If you are using Outlook AND multiple profiles, be sure to click the "Configure" button, inside of the Configure screen for each organizer app...that is how you select the proper profile for EACH Organizer component you are configuring.
Hopefully that will get things going again.
Good luck and let us know!

  • BlackBerry Desktop v6.1.0 B38 Won't install and hangs on Windows 7 64 bit

I'm new here and would be very grateful for your help.
When i try to install v6.1.0 B38 on my Windows 7 64 bit PC I have problems and it will not install.
It goes as far as telling me that it has installed and would i like to run it.
I then click yes and it attempts to start but just hangs on the grey BlackBerry splash screen and only a restart seems to stop it. Also when I hover the mouse over the logo it just shows the circular windows eggtimer cursor type thing.
I have tried quite a few things with no success and I'm really stuck here and was just wondering if anyone has the same problem and is there a fix for it? I'm at my wits end and ready to try anything.
My PC is in good working order with no other dodgy programs. I tried re installing C++ and that other program but it didn't help any. I'm extremely grateful for your help. As have tried uninstalling and reinstalling many times now.
    Cheers
    Paul

Hello -- sorry for the no reply...from what you posted, you'd pretty much tried everything...but here is a much more drastic set of steps you can try. For reference, I can attest that it can work just fine on Win7X64...so there must be something wrong that is causing it to fail in your situation, and we'll just have to figure out what it is. Nevertheless, here are my thoughts...
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista/Win7, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
Further, it has also been reported that when your user profile on windows (type 'echo %userprofile%' in the command prompt) contains spaces, then the installer will not work. In order to solve this issue, log out of your Windows account and log back in using the local Administrator account (or any other account name without spaces) and install the desktop (for all users).
    1) Remove your device OS update package from your PC (add/remove programs)
    2) Cleanly uninstall the RIM Desktop Software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
Some have reported that manually editing the registry and removing all keys related to Research In Motion, Puma, BlackBerry, etc. to be helpful. Sorry, but there's no way to give you any kind of list...
    4) Download (to your PC) a fresh copy of your device OS package from your carrier:
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    5) Install the Desktop Software to your PC -- don't run it yet.
    6) Install (also to your PC), the device OS package
    7) Now run the Desktop Software and see if it is successful.
Hopefully that will get things going again. In the worst case scenarios, it's been reported here that completely rebuilding the Win7 OS from scratch can also work. But, again, each situation is different, so it's impossible to know anything 100%.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Blackberry Bold 9900 OS software update from version 7.0.0 to version 7.1.0

    Helo Everyone
I tried to upgrade my Blackberry Bold 9900 device software from version 7.0.0 to version 7.1.0 but having difficulties. I tried using the Blackberry Desktop Manager but there was no version 7.1.0 listed among the available updates. Even when I tried to do it directly via the Blackberry official website, Version 7.1.0 was also not listed. Finally I tried to do the update with my phone directly by accessing: Options>Device>Software Updates.
It displayed my Current Version of 7.0.0 Bundle 2406 and an available version 7.1.0 Bundle 1149. But when I Clicked Perform Update to download the new version it showed preparing to download but then displayed an error message such as "The download cannot continue because your device cannot connect to the update server using any of the following methods:Wi-Fi".
Meanwhile, I did not perform the upgrade with Wi-Fi because I have an active blackberry data subscrip of 2GB from my mobile network provider.
Please I need help on how to perform the upgrade from version 7.0.0 to version 7.1.0 with the latest Bundle.
Thank you all as i await your kind solution.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below.
    2) Uninstall, from your PC, any BB OS packages
    3) Make sure you have the BB Desktop Software already installed
    http://us.blackberry.com/software/desktop.html
    4) Download and install, to your PC, the BB OS package you desire:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
It is sorted first by carrier -- so if all you want are the OS levels your carrier supports, your search will be quick. However, some carriers are much slower than others to release updates. To truly seek out the most up-to-date OS package for your BB, you must dig through and find all carriers that support your specific model BB, and then compare the OS levels that they support.
    5) Delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
6a) For changing your installed BB OS level (upgrade or downgrade), you can launch the Desktop Software and connect your BB...the software should offer you the OS package you installed to your PC.
6b) Or, for reloading your currently installed BB OS level as well as for changing it, bypass the Desktop Software and use LOADER.EXE directly, by proceeding to step 2 in this process:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC.
If, during the processes of 6a or 6b, your BB presents a "507" error, simply unplug the USB cord from the BB and re-insert it...don't do anything else...this should allow the install to continue.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
KB19915How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software

  • NEED URGENT HELP-BLACKBERRY CURVE 9300

Got it like two weeks ago. About a week ago it kept rebooting a lot. Like three days it kept rebooting continuously and viciously often shutting off during rebooting. Today I connected it to my PC, I was upgrading the OS hoping that this would solve the problem but during the upgrade their was an error. It was suggested that I disconnected the blackberry and restart my PC. Did that but now my bb is not even rebooting, it keeps blinking red and is not being recognized by my PC. I don't know what to do and I'm about cry. I am very appreciative of any reply. My device is unlocked and the software is OS5.

Hmmm..OK...thne you should probably do a clean OS reload.
At the top of each device forum, there should be some "sticky" threads that discuss the OS levels available for many models. If they include your model, then please use those as reference as you proceed. Otherwise, you will have to dig through the official download portal for OS packages for your model:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

Hmmm...strange indeed...OK, then the next thing I can think of is for you to perform a complete start over with DTM:

Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):

Basically my blackberry curve 8520 screen turns white every now and then, does this about several times, and is winding me up.The top of my blackberry has been took off completely, that may be the problem but I'm not sure, perhaps it's the screen, I still ain't sure. I have a Curve 8320 with a 4-Gb SanDisk micro SD card.  Due to difficulties installing BlackBerry Media Sync, I'm trying to just manage my media (music, no photos or videos at the moment) simply by using my BlackBerry as a mass-storage device.  I understand that when I connect the BlackBerry to the computer with the micro SD card in it, the BlackBerry is supposed to prompt me to enable mass-storage mode.  However, this is not happening.  I can't get the BlackBerry to appear as a mass-storage device in the Computer folder on my PC.  I can tell the BlackBerry is indeed interfacing with the computer, for Desktop Manager is able to interact with it.  I've gone into the Media Card option in Options and enabled media-card support and mass-storage mode and told the BlackBerry to auto-enable mass-storage mode when connected, and I've formatted the card with the BlackBerry as well, but still I've had no luck.

Hi and welcome to the forums!

Take a look at this kb article:   Unable to view media card
If that is not the issue, you might also want to use DM WITHOUT Media Manager as it may be causing the conflict:
I suggest the following steps (insert plenty of reboots of your PC...not just restarts, but full power down reboots). Also, it is advised that you be logged into the PC on an account with full admin rights. Further, under Vista, use the "Run As Administrator" option for everything.
    1) Cleanly uninstall the RIM DTM software:
KB02206 How to perform a clean uninstall of BlackBerry Desktop Software
    2) Get a fresh download of the RIM DTM software:
    Software Download for Blackberry Support
    * Choose the version that is newest and (if applicable) compatible with your PIM (if you are synchornizing via USB):
KB12268 Applications supported by BlackBerry Desktop Manager for synchronization
    3) Install DTM to your PC
    4) Start the organizer configuration over:

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I recommend that you attempt to boot into Safe Mode
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode
It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.
Failing that, you OS may have been corrupted, and only a clean OS reload can cure that. At the top of each device forum, there should be some "sticky" threads that discuss the OS levels available for each model. Please use those as reference as you proceed.
You can even use a different carriers OS package by simply inserting, between steps 1 and 2, the deletion, on your PC, of a file named VENDOR.XML. Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:
KB19915How to perform a clean reload of BlackBerry smartphone application software using BlackBerry Desktop Software
You also can attempt to use the BBSAK utility (BBSAK.ORG)...that can allow you, from a PC, to cleanly wipe and reload your BB OS.
Good luck and let us know!

  • App error 117 reset blackberry 9320

good afternoon, I have a blackberry curve 9320 and when you start to load the operating system reaches 70% and the screen goes blank with the message (Error 117 reset app)
and try installing the OS again using desktop software, also Use the BBSAK and did not give any results, also with instalador_rapido.exe did not accomplish anything, connect to pc via usb cable without battery to load operating system and the process put a battery at 100% charge and did not work either, still appears the error 117.
    I need your cooperation
    thanks

    Hello die595tack067
    Welcome to http://supportforums.blackberry.com/
Search and download your OS and all the above applies
    Via sdgardne
    Nevertheless, here's what I suggest...
The simplest way is to, on a PC (you cannot do this on MAC):
    1) Make sure you have a current and complete backup of your BB...you can find complete instructions via the link in my auto-sig below. (This is probably moot given the errors you have...it's likely your data is already gone from your device, which means you must now rely on a backup you took before this happened.)
You may also want to investigate the use of BBSAK (bbsak.org) to perform the wipe it is capable of.
You may also want to try the "Bare Bones OS Reload Procedure" to attempt to narrow down the precise causal item:
Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.
If the behavior presents immediately, then try a different OS with step 1
If the behavior does not immediately present, then run for as long as it takes for you to be sure that the behavior will not present.
Add one thing -- no matter how tempting, just one.
If the behavior does not present immediately, then again run for long enough to be sure it will not have the same problem
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are loaded or the behavior presents
When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.
If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.
If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.
