Cleanup Utility for CS3 CS4 on Vista 64-bit

I am in the process of uninstalling CS4 in hopes of solving some issues. Premiere and AE stall when opening up either program. In doing so, I have sufficiently confused myself, so I need a step-by-step guide. I ran  the Windows uninstaller, but some Adobe components are still there. When I first upgraded from CS3 to CS4, the installer left all of the CS3 apps on my computer. I am not sure if that is a problem, but I would like to get rid of CS3 to eliminate more confusion. CS4 does no include Audition OnLocation, or Ultra, which I would like to keep.
I have read somewhere about an Adobe cleanup script and a Windows cleanup, but I have not found them online anywhere. Will someone provide me a link to the Cleanup Scripts and instructions on whatever I need to do a clean install of CS4?
I disconnected the Matrox MX02 Mini and I will need to know when to re-connect it (before or after installing CS4?)
Attached is a list of all the Adobe Apps still installed after running the control panel's uninstaller.
Should I remove these with the Windows Clean up Utility? Is it safe to remove everyting with the name "Adobe"?
I just want a clean install of CS4.

  • CS4 on Vista 64-Bit Sys with a BMD Card

Installed CS4 on Vista 64-Bit sys with a BMD HD card.
However, CS4 does not see the BMD presets, etc., so the only options I have are those Adobe includes with CS4. I uninstalled the BMD drives, etc. and reinstalled a number of times. The BMD presets are not installed in CS4's "settings" folder or anywhere else.
It may be that the current BMD driver is not CS4-capable, because I manually placed the BMD presets in the CS4 settings folder, and they weren't "seen."
Any thoughts from those folks running a BMD card?
    Thanks,
    Bill Buchanan

Albert, there are no BMD drivers for CS4 aviable yet. You must wait for new drivers from BMD.

    Hi there!
Please see  this thread for the download links for the Fingerprint Software 5.8 ....
This issue was already raised in the ThinkVantage subforum here at Lenovo Forums and it is resolved.
Regarding the Turbo Memory, please keep in mind that the hardware only works with Vista. Windows XP does not support turbo memory thus the piece of hardware is rendered useless. With regards to Turbo Memory usage in Vista, the latest drivers do fully support the card in Vista and since there are no technological changes, there is no need for additional or new drivers.
    Hope this helps!

  • What version of Vista is ideal for CS3/CS4?

    Hi all,
I'm thinking of moving to vista 64. What version of vista is the best for CS3 or CS4?

That sounds good for a business Laptop. Not sure it'll be all that useful for an editing workstation, especially if you have to pay more for it.
I'm also curious about the Enterprise edition. It's not listed on the Vista web site. There's Business and Ultimate, but no Enterprise.
I'm also not seeing any reason why Home Basic wouldn't actually be the best choice. The missing features aren't really needed for editing. And it has the advantage of being a lighter OS (and less expensive as well.)

  • ITunes 10 will not connect to Store, let me sign in, check for updates on Windows Vista 32 bit.

Has anyone had trouble connecting to the iTunes Store while using Itunes 10 for PC?
I cannot check for updates, sign in, or connect to the store so all my app downloads must be done from my device.
    Using:
    Windows Vista 32-bit.
    Cox McAfee anti-virus/firewall.

    Many thanks.
With those symptoms, I'd try the following document:
Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store
(If there's a SpeedBit LSP showing up in Autoruns, it's usually best to just uninstall your SpeedBit Video Accelerator.)

  • Bios recovery for HP dv5-1235dx/Vista (64-bit) crashed during update

My HP Pavillion dv5-1235dx which ran windows vista (64-bit) crashed while updating bios (after my old bios was deleted).  I have tried the start+b+power trick to recover but that option did not work.  HP Support suggests to create a usb key to install bios, however I have repeatedly failed in recovering/installing bios because the instructions are very limited. They mention a "create a usb key" option that I have yet to find that would make the key.  After using the HP UEFI BIOS Update SoftPAQ and extracting files from the bios .exe file, I found the following:
1 folder (sp45138) with contents below
    3602F21.fd
    3603F21.fd
    ding (wave sound)
    InsydeFlash (application)
    InsydeFlash (text document)
    iscflash.dll
    iscflash.sys
    iscflashx64.sys
    platform (configuration settings)
So, my questions are as follows:
Where is the mystery "create a usb key" button?
What files should I have installed on my usb drive?
Does anything have to be renamed or formatted?
    Thanks for any help given!

Hello Ceelion21.  I understand you're trying to recover your computer from a failed BIOS flash.
I see this question get asked a lot so I have made sure to bookmark the instructions which I found on another website.  Here is a link.
You should be able to download the BIOS file from HP Support.  I believe you'll need to use an application such as 7-Zip to extract the BIOS file and locate the *.FD file.
If this doesn't work you'll likely need to have the notebook repaired.  If you'd like to inquire about a repair through HP Support and are in the US/Canada you can give them a call at 1-800-474-6836.  If you're in another part of the world you'll need to visit HP Support Worldwide to get your region's contact information.
Let me know the result of the BIOS recovery.  I hope you have an excellent night!
Please click the white star under my name to give me Kudos as a way to say "Thanks!"
Click the "Accept as Solution" button if I resolve your issue.

  • Small issue with CS3 / CS4 in Vista 64

    Hello,
Recently made the move from XP 32 to Vista 64 and I'm having
issues with CS3 and CS4 when it comes to inserting images and/or
browsing for background images in a CSS file.
The first issue I have is where the cursor starts out. See
    the image below:
    http://img391.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ps1hb9.png
Currently when the select image dialog appears, my cursor is
nowhere to be found. This is easy enough to get around with the
n key but annoying none the less.
My second issue is more upsetting. When I type in the name of
a folder (for example the Downloads folder from the previous
picture) and press the enter key, a strange character followed by a
colon and a backslash is added (:\). The character changes but the
colon and backslash is always the same.
    See:
    http://img513.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ps2cm6.png
This never happened on XP32 but for some reason Vista (and I
tried out server 2008 as well) 64 bit causes this issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Mike

  • Need FLV importer for CS3                                        got 64Bit Vista

    1)
I have got 8GB RAM QUAD Core PC - WIndows Vista Business 64bit Adobe Premiere CS3 and need to import flash flv files into Premiere for editing e
On my old PC where I had XP I used 3vixvfw but now that importer seems to not exist and I cant seem to find an alternative that does the same thing..tried one off the same 3vix site which didnt do the job and i had to reinstall premiere etc PLease let me know if there is a tried and tested converter/importer/plug-in that will enable me to simply import flv files?!!
    2)
It would be good to also have an importer that gets dvd footage easily into premiere too, as currently im capturing using an avc converter and its less than ideal with no device control..if there are methods to overcome this Id be grateful to find-out as I remember in my last production company I was able to put dvd files through two programs/converter and skipped the capturing part?
But the top issue is the one I need answers to most urgently!
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Clare

Thanks for reporting back. It is always important to hear of people's experience with third-party plug-ins.

  • Is there a version of Battery Maximizer for the R40 running Vista 32-bit?

    I have an old R40 / 2896-GZU
I recently upgraded to Vista and found the power management driver V1.67.xx.xx which I installed,
but it seems to just be a low-level driver.
I'd like to attempt to condition the battery as was possible with the "Battery Maximizer" software under XP,
but can not find a version of BM that works on the R40 for the Vista OS. Will the XP version run or is there another option?
ThinkVantage System update V3.16 does not appear to function with the combination of the R40 + Vista as it comes back with no updates at all
    Thanks,
    Jim
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You're looking at two somewhat different sets of problems here:
    a) R40 was never shipped with Vista so any drivers that might come up on the web are likely hacked ones, with no guarantee on how well they'll work.
    b) The GPU is not supported by Vista or any of the newer MS operating systems, which adversely affects the entire power setting and is guaranteed to be at least a part of your problem.
Personally, I'd throw Linux on it and call it a day but that's me.
    Good luck.

When attempting to set up wireless printer it advises to temporarily connect a USB cable.  When I do this the computer hangs and won't advance.  The first time I attempted to install it said my password was wrong.  I've not been able to get back to that point where it asks for a password.  I've tried re-installing, restarting, etc. and nothing seems to work.

  • Vista 64 bit and CS4 and color management

This is a question about Vista 64 bit and CS4 and color management. I scan 4x5 film and sometimes end up with up to or even bigger than 1 GB files. Obviously that needs as much memory as possible. Windows XP is limited in this regard and I am in the market for a new speedy computer which won't force me to stay at a snail's pace. In this month's Shutterbug, David Brooks in his Q&A column says to avoid Vista for color management reasons, but offers no explanation or support for his opinion. He implies one should wait for Windows 7 for some unstated reason. With a calibrated monitor and printer and Photoshop controlling color files sent to the printer, why would Vista be any different or worse than XP? Is he on to something or just pontificating? Does anyone know any reliable info about Windows 7 that would make it worth waiting for?
    Thanks.

Photoshop has direct access to max 3.2gb
On Mac OS X, PS CS4 can use up to 8 GB of RAM, but only directly accesses up to 3.5 GB. (Figures quoted from kb404440.) In using PS CS4 on Mac OS, though, direct Memory Usage maxes out at 3 GB even. If you set usage to 100% (3 GB), then plug-ins (including Camera Raw and filters), as well as actions and scripts, can access RAM above that 3 GB to between about 512 MB and about 768 MB total (seems to vary depending on which filters et al that you are using), leaving the rest up to 4 GB for the Mac OS. If you have more than 4 GB, then the amount of RAM above 4 GB is used by PS as a scratch disk. This increases performance significantly for most things because writing to and reading from the hard drive is much slower than doing so with RAM.
I haven't done the testing for actual RAM usage and such for PS CS4 on Vista 64, and Adobe's documentation is very much lacking in detail, but, based on the statement "If you use files large enough to need more than 4 GB of RAM, and you have enough RAM, all the processing you perform on your large images can be done in RAM, instead of swapping out to the hard disk." from kb404439, it seems that PS would be using RAM in very much the same way as I described above for Mac OS, except that the scratch disk usage in RAM wouldn't be limited to 8 GB (instead to how much you have installed). Has anyone done any performance/load testing to know for sure? I didn't see any such studies published, but I am curious if one has been done.
I will agree that there is a definite performance advantage when using PS CS4 (64-bit) on Vista 64, which I've experienced, especially when working very large compositions.
My initial recommendation to the OP to use Mac was based upon reading those articles about bad color management. As I stated before, I have never experienced that problem, and clearly the views of all that have posted here so far indicate that the problem may not be a real issue. (Perhaps this David Brooks fellow and Steve Upton both like to mess with their computers and broke something in Windows?)

  • Any possible issues using Captivate 4 on Vista 64-bit OS?

    Hi:
Looking to order a new PC and load up on ram for Captivate 4 and some other applications I am using.
I realize Captivate 4 is not certified for use on a Vista 64 bit OS, but I am wondering if I will run into a bunch of performance issues or what your experience may be using C4 on a 64 bit machine.  I heard it is possible to force Captivate 4 to run as a 32bit application, but I don't know specifically how to do it.
    Any feedback is appreciated.

None that I found.  I worked with adobe for a while and they sent me a couple of patchs that were supposed to fix the problem, and while I eventually could record audio, I never was able to edit it.  Adobe eventually lost interest and stopped responding to my requests.  I think it has something to do with Vista becasue I am running xp on a brand new 64bit Mac at home and it works fine.

  • CS3/CS4 Performance; recommendations for LAN/Server Env ?

Id like to hear from the admins (or users for that matter) dealing with a significant amount of Adobe CS3/CS4 users, in a LAN/Server environment.
What are the specs of the machines (PC's) that run it well ?
Are you using font managers ?
Are you the users editing files located on the server ?
Im running all machines well above Adobe spec, Server 03 domain, Gbit Lan, Citrix ASA router.
The guys here are of course whining about Macs, but they also state that font manager software would help resource usage on the workstations. When the apps launch in the AM, performance is great, as the day wears on, machine performance lags, and PS or Illustrator will eat itself. Event viewer has no other details except for App Hang.  Often times, while trying to save the work back out to the server; but other times just during general use.
Just wondering of there is something I could be doing to better to help these guys.
Anyone have thoughts on this ?
    Keith

How about some details on those machines? CS3 and CS4 are very resource hungry and I've found the best environment is Vista 64 with at 8 gigs of RAM (or more) a fast processor and fast harddrives.
FWIW, it's not all that unusual to need to restart some of these applications after a lot of use.
I know it's a pain but it certainly cures a world of ills when things start to slow down.
BTW, that holds true on the Mac side as well.

  • Vista 64 bit CS3 and CS4 compatibility

    Hi,
I have a new computer on the way with a Vista 64 bit OS (home premium). I have CS3 Web Standard and recently upgraded to CS4 Design Premium. I've deactivated on my old machine and am hoping to install CS3 and CS4 on the new machine, once it arrives in a few days. Will these creative suites be compatible and install on the 64 bit Vista OS?
When I upgraded, I think the upgrade required me to have CS3 on the computer, so I suspect in order to put CS4 on the new machine, CS3 will first have to be installed.
Has anyone successfully installed CS3 and then a CS4 upgrade on Vista 64?
    Kind Regards,
    saratogacoach

    Thanks, Bob.
The new computer arrived a few hours ago, and I successfully installed CS4, only needing the serial number for CS3.
The machine has the new Core i7, but with 6G's of RAM, not 8. So, I'm hoping that the programs will run OK.
    Again, thanks for your help.
    Kind Regards,

  • End of Upgrade Cycle for CS3 and CS4... Really Adobe?

As if business wasn't bad enough now I see there will be no upgrade paths past december for CS3 and 4 users. Is this how Adobe plans to keep users away from stopping their upgrades and reducing the number of machines they run Adobe products on? I understand Adobe is not a non-profit and has has to turn a revenue, but the geniuses at Marketing here have made a huge mistake by basically telling their customers that what they have so far will be worth zilch in comes 2013. That arbitrary deadline, is not consider some people who on the east coast are now cash strapped as anyone having to choose between home repairs and other such marvelous stuff and upgrading to CS6 guess what they'll choose. And for the lucky ones not heavily affected by the storms, they will donate to help their community before they will spend money to upgrade perfectly good software.
It wasn't enough that the upgrade path wasn't much of a discount, but in the current economy every penny counts! The choice of stopping support for CS3 and CS4 in my personal opinion an ill-advised move. I personally went from 3 to 4 within a short amount of time... then when 5 came out my budget didn't allow so I needed to wait. The new CS6 isn't direly needed so I decided I'd have to loose some additional "upgrade power" because money need to be directed elsewhere now... but the news that I'd loose all the upgrade power and would have kept on upgrading for nothing it's just ridiculous... and if that's the treatment a customer will have to expect from now on I think I'll use what I have and move to alternatives stopping to personally support Adobe products an rely on licensed copies at work instead. Perhaps Adobe hasn't notices we aren't exactly doing that great in US between the current economical situation, the various setbacks experienced across the country and for the fact that in this particular business most work is often being outsourced out of US these days... I am sure you will have a huge market on the countries where the outsourced work is being sent... as far as I am concerned comes 12/31/2013 I will no longer be an Adobe customer as Adobe is forcing me out of the upgrade cycle and I won't plan to re-enter anytime soon in the coming future... lesson learnt.
Thank you for your time (if any of the marketing gurus will have cared to read this far without laughing and discounting with a "screw those old customers, they should've upgraded earlier" which was basically the content of the email I got this week... pasted below)
    Cheers,
    tfbkny
Content of email received from Adobe saying last chance to upgrade now or what you got will be worthless in less than a couple months.
    Dear Creative Suite customer:
We want to make sure you're aware of an important change to Adobe's upgrade policy that may affect you.
Beginning January 1, 2013, only Creative Suite customers with licenses for CS5 or CS5.5 versions will qualify for upgrade pricing to CS6.
Due to this change, we will only continue offering CS3 and CS4 customers like you special upgrade pricing through December 31, 2012.*
    * Owners of CS3 and CS4 individual products and suite editions will be eligible to receive upgrade pricing to CS6 until December 31, 2012. After that date, only customers on CS5 or CS5.5 will qualify for upgrade pricing to CS6.

Adobe doesn't care, they don't have to. I like Phsotoshop and have been using it professionally for 20 years, but lets face it, I wouldnt mind some really good competition from another source. It didnt use to be the only game in town, and doesnt have to remain so.
I could brainstorm how I would want competing software to look like. Pshop is not the easiest workflow possible. Illustrator is clearly deficient to even CorelDraw, and certainly Freehand. I've been meaning to reconnect with CorelDraw. It did some cool things.
Google Chrome is pulling a lot of manoevers software wise and I hope they try to go a little deeper and give Adobe a run for their money on the one program they feel justifies unbelievable gouging. Go investigate Ableton Live if you want to see what a company that cares about its customers is doing, ADOBE. Audition is a JOKE compared to Ableton Live. Thank God we're not powned on the audio side by these suits.
The idea that a company would peddle buggy software, which CS4 was..., although some of that was Apple's fault, is bad, the upgrade prices were ridiculous, and this is the end of the road for me currently. The idea that a company would actively
push away customers is pretty incredible. "But I sent you an email!" Whoops, you gotta pay $1900 for production premium CS6! HAHAHAHAHA. Time for a YT video with my old hard copy box. Sounds like a good idea.
There are too many options on the motion graphics side, and I'll keep a static machine to run Pshop and AE CS4.
The masters of the universe will have theit way, and the rest must bow to their ambivalent greed. At least that's the way they think. It would seem that Adobe and Apple really, really want some upstarts to come up. Maybe $360 for a year to figure out an exit might work. It will be interesting to see if this hits earnings. VERY interesting.
