Clear all user preferences  elements 9

Hi
how can I reset elements 9 to its default settings when it is first loaded  deactivating uninstalling and reloading did not work
for me it found and reused my old settings when I reinstalled it?
I am running windows 7 home premium 32 bit on a duel core laptop sometimes I use two monitors but I run the second monitor
through an asus usb docking station so I can also use three portable hard drives to store and edit pictures
My origional problem was I sometimes run a duel monitor setup and was running elements 9 on the second monitor
when I closed the program it was running on the second monitor.
The next time I used elements I was using a single monitor elements 9 loaded ok but the magic exteactor was looking to load on the
second monitor but it was unplugged so nothing appeared and the program acted like it locked up
pushing enter unlocked the program and the magic extractor appeared in the history pallet no change to the picture though
plugging in the second monitor and dragging the magic extractor pallet back to the primary monitor solved this
This is the only tool that has done this to me so far all the others that I have used  appear on the primary monitor
when elements itself is runing on the second monitor
Thanks

Try quitting the editor, then restarting it while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift. Keep the keys down till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

  • Everyone Deny Delete ACL on all user preferences

Hi, I know that user accounts have an ACL on certain folders to prevent them being deleted, but on one of my users this ACL has appeared on all his preferences files and folder, and they are all explicit so I can't just change the enclosing folder and propagate to remove them.
does anyone know a terminal command I could use to remove all of these because at the moment if the user tries to change any application preferences the app will crash on quit.

This has happened to 50+ accounts on my file server as well, on accounts that were created only 2 weeks prior. I'd like to find out why this happens and how to prevent it.
I find myself having to hand edit perms, which is a huge pain.

  • SCCM 2012 Clear all user device affinity

Over a year ago UDA was set by mistake to manual affinity confirmations
    Since that time
several thousands of requests was received at admin console.
Couple of weeks ago UDA was set to automatic affinity based on usage statistics. Unfortunately only new OS deployments get UDA based on usage and 98% of other PCs still have no affinity.
    It was decided to
clear the queue of current device affinity requests at admin console on "All systems" collection by rejecting them due to I do not want to set admin affinity record in UDA - it is permanent IMO.
It did not help to get new UDA for old PCs
because clients believing that they already set it before. (see log file)
    User 'XXXXX\XXXXX' has 25960 usage minutes UserAffinity 07.07.2014 16:11:21 2112 (0x0840)
    Setting auto affinity for user 'XXXXX\XXXXX'. UserAffinity 07.07.2014 16:11:21 2112 (0x0840)
Found same state message existing. (was sent before) Skip sending same state message for user 'XXXXX\XXXXX'.. UserAffinity 07.07.2014 16:11:21 2112 (0x0840)
It is definitely a client WMI issue, because reinstalling client with uninstallation checkbox  fix the problem on second computer policy retrieval cycle.
I need a way to clear somehow old affinity states in client history to set it again based on usage statistics. Any advice?

    Hi,
Have you tried to delete the state message from WMI? I saw that is stored in root\ccm\statemsg -> Enum Classes -> Recursive -> double-click CCM_StateMsg -> Instances. There should be messages that contain "domain/user_Auto".

  • How can I migrate all users preferences from 1 user to another on same MAC

To get CS3 to work Adobe tech support had me create a new user account and install from there. Now the NEW account is the only account CS3 works in but all my settings, files, addresses, EVERYTHING are under the old account. Since it works on one account it's not their problem anymore. Is there ANYWAY to get all my old stuff from old account to new. I don't know where to begin, it's like I'm at a new computer. I can get to some of my files but can't save them back where they belong, grayed out.

Hi and a warm welcome to the forums!
I think we'd be better off figuring out how to install it for the other User, but...
Do a Get info on the Adobe Apps/Folders in Applications on the working User, report the 3 Rights/Privileges.

  • IMac wiped all user preferences

I bought my iMac on 29 Nov but problems meant it had to be returned a week later.  Best buy could not resolve the issue so replaced it was another new 21.5 iMac which worked fine until my husband bought me a memory upgrade for Christmas then kernel panics started to happen and Apple support suggested trying to re-install Lion that was 2 days ago but it seemed to work the kernal panics stopped and everything was fine until this morning.
I switched on the iMac only to find all my settings have gone, the machine couldn't recognise my keyboard or mouse (though the trackpad still worked) and the GUI was like a new iMac with the standard background but a couple of the original icons like the application folder are also missing from the standard dock set up. All of my preferences, customisations  have gone, there are no cons for the various items of software i ave installed and Mail no longer recognises my email accounts, so all my emails and mail box folders are gone.   I have only ad the computedata inured do I still have my data on my old computer system but all of the correspondence I have made during the last two months has apparently been lost and I will now gave to find the time to reconfigure everything - not what you want when you are the midd f doing end of year accounts!
I spent hours on the phone to Apple but they are as flummoxed as I am - has this happened to anyone else and if so does anyone know a cause or cure as it would appear Apple are as much in the dark about this as I am.
I would appreciate anyone's help or suggestions re this

Wayne, your response that DU had problems repairing
the disk. I wondering if you have run into a disk
problem. My G5 at work had a problem reading the
application support folder in my library folder. The
finder would have problems and take forever and
finally had to backup the drive and reformat and
reinstall. I hope your not having the same problems.
Do you have any other disk utilities that you can
try to use on your MBP. Let us know what the genius
    says.
I postponed my appointment until today -- to give myself time to back up everything. I'm going to try connecting the MBP to my G5 as a Firewire disk and a run a recovery program to see what I can get back. I've pretty well settled on it being a disk issue, unfortunately. I'll let you guys know.
    Thanks.

On a multi-user computer, does holding ctrl-alt-shift during InDesign launch clear preferences files for all users on that computer, or just the current user?  I have a few multi-user machines that are having issues, which the knowledagebase says is often cured by clearing preferences.

    Hi Arti,
In cProjects the authorizations can be managed either by authorization profile administration by system administrator for General authorizations or by Project specific authorizations for individual cProjects elements by Project owner.
Try the first one and I hope you will get the solution.

  • HT201413 I get error 20 when I try to download updates to installed Apple software  I have two users on the IMac. I resolve the problem by clearing all cookies on both users Safari. Why do I need to do this? What is going on?

I get Error 20 when I try to download updates for installed Apple apps on my IMac.  I have two users on the IMac, and I resolve the problem by clearing all cookies on both users Safari, opening and closing the App Store for each user, shutting down and restarting the IMac for each user, until finally the download works. There must be an easier way.  I also have an Air, where I have no problems whatsoever. Both machines have Doorstop and MacKeeper with the same settings, so I have ruled those programs out as the cause. I believe iot is because I have two users - any ideas?

Please read this whole message and be sure you understand all of it before doing anything. Back up all data before making changes to your settings.
    Write down the server addresses.
Click Cancel to close the Advanced sheet. Unlock the preference pane, if necessary, by clicking the lock icon in the lower left corner and entering your password. Open the DNS tab again and change the server addresses to the following:
    8.8.8.8
    8.8.4.4
That's Google DNS. Click OK, then Apply.
    In Safari, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If you’re using another browser, empty the cache. Test. Any difference?
    Notes:
    1. If you lose Internet access after making the above change to your network settings, delete the Google servers in the Network preference pane, then select the TCP/IP tab and click Renew DHCP Lease. That should restore the original DNS settings; otherwise restore them yourself.
    2. I’m not advocating Google or anything else as a DNS provider; the server addresses are offerred merely for testing purposes. There may be privacy and technical issues involved in using that service, which you should investigate personally before you decide whether to keep the settings. Other public DNS services exist.

  • Cookies repopulate after use Safari Preferences Privacy. Safari Clear All History works, but also logs me out of site to which I'd like to remain logged in. I use a MacBook Air, running Yosemite 10.10.1.

Cookies repopulate after I use Safari<Preferences<Privacy to try to remove some, but not all cookies. They don't seem to repopulate after I use Safari<Clear All History, but then I am logged out of sites to which I'd like to remain logged in. I use a MacBook Air, running Yosemite 10.10.1.

    Hi,
I have an update so I thought I would share in case any other users are experiencing a similar problem.
I made an appointment with the Genius Bar at the Apple Store.
I went in and they ran a thorough diagnostic check on my Macbook Air and determined that the sensors were indeed faulty - several were providing no information "No reading" instead of providing a temperature. Thus, the Air was unaware of the temperature across multiple components.
Despite the laptop being outside the 12 Month Manufacturer Warranty, the Apple Store determined that it was covered under warranty through Australian Consumer Law - the laptop is now in for a complete repair under warranty at no cost to myself.
    I couldn't be happier.

  • How to set default User preferences in Analyzer for all users

How to set default User preferences in Analyzer for all users<BR><BR>Hi,<BR><BR>I would like to set some settings in Analyzer as default for all users. For example:<BR>1. I'm pretty sure higher access superceedes, so you could set up a group with no actual access, just to get the preferences working, then their individual security will dictate what they can do. I haven't tested this fully, but I beleive this is how it will work.<BR>As far as setting the preferences, go into the admin console and right click on the group, then select Preferences. To apply the group preferences to a user, add the user to the group, then right click on the user, select preferences and from the upper left corner, use the drop down to select the active preference, in this case, it will be the group you created and added them to.<BR><BR>HTH

  • Set Preferences for all users

I need to be able to set QT preferences that are persistent to all users of a particular computer.
For example, I need to set the video to Safe Mode, but that setting only gets saved to the currently logged in user. Safe Mode would not be enabled for a user logging in with a different account.
This is on a Windows XP SP3 machine with the latest version of QT.

C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTSystem\QuickTime cpl is the file for the QT control panel.
With XP pro open the Folder Options control panel and click on the View tab. Uncheck> Use simple file sharing [Recommended] this will give the computer a Security tab. While in Folder Options you probably should put a check\dot in> Show hidden files and folders, and uncheck> Hide extensions for known file types and maybe uncheck> Hide protected opersting system file Recommended, to be sure QuickTime cpl shows up.
Right click on QuickTime cpl and click on the Security tab. This should give you the ability to work with permissions for user accounts

  • Script to Copy preference file to all users profiles and to the default template

I have build a package using Apple PackageMaker, this will install an application and a preference (plist) file to the current logged in user. Now I wanted to build a postflight script, which can copy a plist (ex com.test.plist) form an current logged in user to other user account on a machine also to the default user template (/System/Library/user template/...../Library/preferences) so any new user account created will have same preference file copied.

Hi Mark...here is another script which work well if I have to copy my preference file from an account named as "admin" or some other account. However, it not certain that all Mac machine will have a account named as "admin". This is why I am looking for a way to copy the preference file from /private/var location to all user accounts on a mac.
    #!/bin/sh
    localUsers=$( dscl . list /Users UniqueID | awk '$2 >= 501 {print $1}' | grep -v admin )
    for userName in "$localUsers"; do
         cp /Users/admin/Library/Preferences/org.mypreference.plist /Users/$userName/Library/Preferences/
         chown $userName /Users/$userName/Library/Preferences/org.mypreference.plist
    done
I tried to update it as suggest in some other forum like this, still no luck
    #!/bin/sh
    UserAccounts=`dscl . list /Users UniqueID | awk '$2 > 500 { print $1 }'`
    for userName in "$UserAccounts"; do
         cp /private/var/org.mypreference.plist /Users/$userName/Library/Preferences/
         chown $userName /Users/$userName/Library/Preferences/org.mypreference.plist
    done
When I run the above script it comes up with the following error:
    cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-apvX] source_file target_file
    cp [-R [-H | -L | -P]] [-fi | -n] [-apvX] source_file ... target_directory
chown: admin: No such file or directory
chown: admin/Library/Preferences/org.mypreference.plist: No such file or directory

  • Setting Default Preferences for All Users in Crystal Reports Server 2008 v1

We are currently looking to set the default preferences in the CMC for all of our users.
I did locate this page Link: [How to set default preferences for all users in Infoview 3.1/CRS 2008]
The first part of the thread did seem promising but I am unable to find the sample .jsp code that people recommended.
I would assume that this scenario is common enough that someone knows a way to set universal preference defaults.
    Thank you

I thought I could just run it too but when I attempt to I get a Windows Script Host error:
    Script: C:\User Prefs.vbs
    Line: 1
    Char: 1
    Error: Expected statement
    Code: 800A0400
    Source: Microsoft VBScript compilation error.
I noticed the first most line seems to be markup for a web interface though I am not familiar with vbs so I may be wrong.  I used the publishing wizard to put the script on the CMC to attempt to run it through the CMC but it still does not work.

  • Systeme Preference Corruption for All Users!

In one of my user account, I can't get the scroll bars to show!!!
I want in preference-general and select ''Always'' under Show Scroll Bars, but I can't see them in Safari, Mail...
When I close Preference, my ''Always'' selection is gone and it return to '' Automatically based on input device''
Also, issue with Screen Saver. I can select any Apple default screen saver. My iMac always play my iPhoto Library.
I'm suspecting Systeme Preference Corruption in all my users.
In previous post, Frank recommended to boot from recovery disk, go to terminal, rset paasword window and slect ''Reset Home Folder Permissions and ACLs''
This is what I did, exept, it was running after 24 hrs of waiting and I decide to quit. It did the same with all users...
Do you have a solution to this issue?
NOTE: Lions was reinstalled and HD erase. Repair Disk Permission done, Safe boot done.
    What do I got left?

Repairing the permissions of a home folder in Lion is a complicated procedure. I don’t know of a simpler one that always works.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy – do not type – the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    chmod -R -N ~
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. When a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) appears below what you entered, it’s done. You may see a few error messages about an “invalid argument” while the command is running. You can ignore those. If you get an error message with the words “Permission denied,” enter this:
    sudo !!
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
Next, boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the recovery desktop appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.
