Clear bookmark favicons on exit

I have upgraded from firefox 3 to 6 and in 3, I noticed a nice feature.
If I bookmarked a page, to the bookmark bar, it would do so with the site's favicon but when I closed firefox and reopend it, the favicons would be reset. If I went on any bookmark, the correct favicon would load up giving me my own "you have been on these bookmarks this session" addon
How do I get this to work on Firefox 6?
I have it currently set to not remember history and clearing cache does not have any effect.
I noticed in Help > Troubleshooting information that it had things like "privacy.clearOnShutdown.offlineAppstrue" so is there a way to do the same to bookmarks favicons?

i wonder, could it have something to do with "offline cache device" not being used?
(well, apparently it's in use, just the "number of entries" is 0)
also note, there may be a cache now, but as soon as i close FF, it'll delete it all. that's my problem.

  • Export bookmarks -- favicons didn't show

I exported bookmarks from safari to a file, and used that file to import into Firefox and Opera. The bookmarks showed up, but without favicons. Is there a way to do it and keep the favicons?
I did that while in 10.3.9. Now that I have Tiger, would that make a difference?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   768 megs

Safari actually has a separate cache for the favicons (the Icons folder in the Library folder on Finder's Home page), so clearing Safari's regular cache won't clear the favicons. It used to be that clearing the favicons cache when it got really large would help speed up Safari. I don't know if that is still true or not - it has been at least a year since I cleared the favicons cache in Safari.
Clearing Firefox's cache clears the favicons, so you have to start collecting them all over again.

  • Why is Bookmark Favicon Changer missing from the add-ons list?

The Bookmark Favicon Changer add-on is currently installed on my browser [ESR 31.2.0] and it seems to work, although imperfectly. Yet the add-on pages (https://addons.mozilla.org/) do not list it at all, as far as I can see. What's going on?

The developer was flaunting the rules that AMO operates under. AMO cut him some slack, and provided a month warning about uploading an updated version. '''Then''' that extension was downgraded, and after warning the developer again and not getting a response from the developer Mozilla disabled the listing for that extension. All he had to do was to upload a new "fixed" version to have that extension enabled again.
Fair or unfair, the rules are the rules. Violate the rules and you're liable to be tossed out. ''I use 6 different extensions that aren't hosted at AMO; two were pulled from AMO years ago due to "new rules" similar to what this developer didn't like and the other 4 were never hosted at AMO for one reason of another.'' And at least Mozilla doesn't do like some of the App stores and restrict add-ons to being installed '''only''' from the Mozilla Add-ons website or Market Place as will soon be known. Add-on developers still have the choice to host add-ons on their own website, and users still have the choice to install add-ons from any website that they want to.
As far as "notification" goes - why would Mozilla want to do that? Mozilla didn't like a "call" the developer was using, so why should Mozilla contact users? And how would Mozilla even go about contacting users? There's no "registry" of users for each extension that is kept by Mozilla, and IMO keeping track users like that would violate each users privacy. Who wants to be tracked in that manner?

  • Bookmark favicons are now all 'generic'; 'HELP' page steps failed.

My bookmark favicons are all 'generic'. Identifying favicons are entirely absent. I want to reclaim the ability to have identifying favicons when bookmarking sites. The Firefox 'help' page regarding this issue did not solve the problem.

    Rick,
I have a few of your issues as well: 1) Safari popular icons are all bue making them very hard to distinguish from each other. 2) My font size is also different with each page / window.        What I have been able to find out is that in the Maverick OS - Apple removed one size of display resolution 2048 x 1152. Whether this is the cause of my 27" screen clarity & font size issues, I do not know - but it seems like a contributing factor.  Maybe help is on the way - maybe not. Cheers

  • Bookmark favicons don't display after backup/restoration until I revisit the webpage

When restoring a backup of my bookmarks, the favicons associated with them don't reappear until I revisit the webpage. Is there a way to have Firefox fetch them for me without having to revisit?

    CheckPlaces: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/10897
This issue can be caused by using [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the cache or running in (permanent) [[Private Browsing]] mode. If you use either then try to disable at least once to sse if it works on a next start.

  • No longer able to clear Bookmark Icons

...using Cocktail or Onyx. Is this new to 3.0.4?
    Anyone else notice this?

    Cocktail does this...
Have you tried it (Cocktail 3.8.3) with Safari 3.0.4 in Tiger? The Bookmark icons are still there even after running Cocktail with "clear: Page Icons" checked.
Same with Onyx (1.8.3) and checking "Bookmark Icons" under "Delete" under the Internet tab in the Cleaning pane...
The icons remain -- unless it's just me --
    I'll try Tinker Tool next.
    Thanks,
    Geoff

  • Firefox won't delete cookies even after set to clear cookies on firefox exit

I have use custom settings for remembering history in firefox.
I set to clear history on firefox close. Under this settings, I set to clear cookies, active login and cache. But whenever firefox exits it doesn't remove cookies.
Also, I set to keep cookies till firefox closes. Still the cookies appears.
This is a big security issue for me..When I click restore previous session, firefox restores the login into sites also which I don't want

    Got It!!!
Go To: Firefox/Tools/Options/Privacy/Tracking Checked box/Tell websites I do not want to be tracked/ History Firefox will: Never Remember History/ You may also want to: clear all current history/ Clear now/ click OK, ---> got it, that is your answer.<-- (Right click the left image below to open in a new tab)
And it is my answer as well, as I was confounded with this problem for some time. Now after you do this close your Firefox browser, and open back up Firefox browser, and there will be maybe only one or two cookies, depending on your browsers' home page.
I tried other methods to get rid of persistent cookies that would not delete by, CookieKiller, and TACO Targeted Advertising Cookie Opt-Out, those did not help, and I tried the methods listed on these links but they did not work:http://webdevwonders.com/clear-dom-storage/
Also this method did not work:http://justplainobvious.blogspot.com/2009/03/firefox-wont-delete-cookies.html
Next to make your Firefox browsing possible, go to/Firefox/Tools/Options/Privacy/,Tracking Checked box/Tell websites I do not want to be tracked, History Firefox will: Use custom settings for history, unchecked box Always use private browsing mode, unchecked box Remember my browsing history, unchecked box Remember download history, unchecked box Remember search and form history, checked box Accept cookies from sites, checked box Accept third party cookies, Keep until: I close Firefox, checked box clear history when Firefox closes, /settings all nine boxes checked/ click --->OK! (Right click the right image below to open in a new tab)
    All Cookies are gone/history/deleted.

  • Lost bookmark favicons when updated to Yosemite

I lost all my favicons on my bookmarks when I updated to Yosemite. How do I get them back?

This sort of things happened all the time with Quicktime updates.
At one point the simple solution was to remove any evidence of the QT install package and to download and reinstall QT. Not so sure this will work with the current software but here's how to do it.
    To do a quicktime reinstall.
Go to /library/receipts and delete any files that say Quicktime followed by a number e.g. Quicktime703.pkg
Go to the Apple quicktime site and download the appropriate version of Quicktime to your hard drive.
    Run the Quicktime installer.
Repair Disk Permissions for your System Disk (Disk Utility > Select the system disk > Repair Disk Permissions)
    Reboot
    Good luck.

  • How come the latest version of firefox (4.0) lost the feature of saving the bookmarks whenever I exit the browser? Now the only option is actually closing all the bookmarks and manually opening them again.

With previous versions of Firefox, I was always asked this question whenever I exit the web browser and turning my laptop off: Do you want to save your bookmarks?... At least that was the message of the question. Right now, my only option is actually closing all the bookmarks and manually opening each one of them or starting from a saved bookmark list.
    Thanks!

One change in Firefox 4 is to by default stop Firefox displaying the warning message, but it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''browser.tabs.warnOnClose''', if its value is set to '''false''', double-click on it to change its value to '''true'''
    # Repeat this for these 3 preferences '''browser.warnOnQuit''', '''browser.warnOnRestart''' and '''browser.showQuitWarning'''

  • Can I clear the history on exiting firefox?

I'd like to clear my browsing history when exiting Firefox, and I don't find any way to do this.
    Is it possible?

That setting is on the Privacy tab in Options.
History - Firefox will: '''Use custom settings for history''' - that has to be selected to be able to see the custom settings.

  • Clearing bookmarks or reading lists

How do I clear my reading lists/bookmarks saved for later reading?  I'm done reading them so how can I clear them?  Do I have to do this from my MacBook Pro?

Tap on the bookmarks icon to open the menu. You can swipe across each item in the list to bring up a red Delete button - tap the button to delete the bookmark. It works the same way in the Reading list.
You can also tap on the edit button in the upper right corner of the bookmarks menu and tap the red vertical lines on the left side of the bookmarks.

  • Clear Authentication Cache and exit issues

    Hi,
We are doing some basic authentication for logging into the web application which we developed using BSP's and this is being called in one of the frame in our custom portal. When the user logs off we are using java script command document.execCommand("ClearAuthenticationCache"); to clear the authentication data but this is kicking the users out from our custom portal and also when the user logs off instead of showing the log in page in the frame it takes up the complete window and the code used to do that is window.location.href='/sap/bc/bsp/sap/zhr_test/default.htm';.
    All inputs will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Vick

    Hi Vick,
For session management issues you can refer the standard BSP application SYSTEM .

  • Firefox is remembering logins and passwords even when I've set the options to clear them when I exit. I access confidential sites and do not like this. How can I turn off this feature?

I want all passwords, browsing history, everything to clear when I shut down. Currently, it maintains my logins for certain sites. Due the confidentiality of my work, I do not want this to happen. I went to options and set it to clear upon closing, but that is not working.

If you mean websites remembering you by saving cookies via session restore then you can try this.
You can set the pref <b>browser.sessionstore.privacy_level</b> to 2 (never) or 1 (non-HTTPS, default in Firefox 3 versions) on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable saving cookies via session restore.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.sessionstore.privacy_level
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
