Clear central cache? (in Adobe Bridge) message

I am using iMac with 10.5.8 and running Adobe CS3.  In Bridge I am getting the following message:
"Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache.  Please try purging the central cache in cache preferences to correct the situation."
I cannot find any cache under the Adobe folders so does this mean it is an OS cache?
Can anyone help?  I think it is a Mac problem but if more expert users than me think it is an Adobe one I will try there for answers.
Your help is much appreciated, as always!

I've had this problem on and off for years. I would purge the central cache like it says but it wouldn't fix the problem.
Finally, I found out how to perform a master reset on Adobe Bridge and posted about it at the link below.
http://easttexashomestead.com/2014/08/adobe-bridge-cache-error-fixed-with-factor y-reset/
Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. please try purging the central cache in cache preferences to correct the situation.
It sounds like you got it figured out, but hopefully this will help someone in the future.

  • Error Message: Need to purge Cache in Adobe Bridge CC (on PC)

I tried purging using Adobe Bridge by going to Edit/Preferences/Cache then purging, but it becomes non responsive.  The error message said the problem files were at Users/(my user name)/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/BridgeCC/Cache.   There are 4 files in there that are taking up 124 GB!  Can I simply delete these files or will it corrupt my regular files?  I tried doing as some other forums suggested and hold the ALT key down when opening Bridge before purging, but no luck.

Yes, you can delete the cache files manually,  Just be advised that Bridge will become very, very slow until it finishes rebuilding its caches.  Depending on your files, that can take a few minutes or several hours.
A good way of doing it is at night, so you can do it before going to bed and let Bridge rebuild caches overnight.
If you can, save the cache files before deleting them to an external drive, so that you'll have them as backup if something goes wrong.

  • Cannot copy or clear develop settings in Adobe Bridge

okay, here's my problem. all of the sudden i am no longer able to clear or copy develop settings when i right click on raw files in adobe bridge. the problem seemingly began out of nowhere. when i attempt to use these functions i get the following error message: "Bridge's parent application is not active. Bridge requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature." i have googled this to no end and it seems there is no solution that actually works. just to be clear, all of the results for this search ive found seem to be users getting the same error message and the inability to OPEN raw files from bridge; this is NOT my issue. i can still open raw files from bridge with no problems whatsoever but i just cant clear my develop settings. ive googled "cannot clear develop settings" and have found nothing specific to my situation. ive tried resetting bridge and camera raw to their default settings and that hasnt worked. ive moved my cache to a different drive and that hasnt worked. i opened bridge from photoshop and that also hasnt worked. id like to think there is a solution that doesnt require me to uninstall and re-install the entire application. any help would be greatly appreciated.

any help would be greatly appreciated.
For that more info is needed like system, specs, versions etc. Check this for a start:

  • Clear central cache via Cache Preferences

When starting Bridge CS6, I get a message saying that Bridge has encountered a problem, and the central cache needs to be cleared via the Cache Preferences pane. I clear the cache, but it doesn't resolve the problem. Program hangs, and is useless. Win 7, i5 processor, 8GB RAM. Anyone else get this? Any actual fix?

    Hey Curt
    Thanks for the reply.
Lucky for me that's just a few folders that I need to check for an exported cache. That's only because I use that computer as a "way station" to collect image files on location, and import them later to my main machine.
Manually deleting everything seems to have worked, but I'll need to wait while all thumbnails are re-created. Bummer. Wastes my time. Not conducive to sales, believe me.

  • Library Cache for Adobe Bridge CS4

I'm trying to clear up space on my harddrive for my macbook, and in my library folder, there is a cache folder which then has various adobe products.  The Adobe Bridge CS4 folder has almost 20 GB of stuff in it.  Can I get rid of this (safe to delete)?  Why does it build up so much?  Do I need to periodically manage this manually?  Any help you can offer would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

The cache folder for Bridge can grow to huge proportions because it keeps
information for all earlier cached files. After quitting Bridge you can
delete this folder (user library/caches /Adobe/Bridge CS4/cache) by dragging
this to the trash and empty bin to make space on your HD.
Restarting Bridge creates a brand new cache folder in this place but this
one is empty. Therefore you will need to recache all files you want to show
at high quality in the preview window again because with deleting this data
the cache with all previews (including the HQ preview that are mainly
responsible for the huge size) from previous cached files will also be gone.
Personally I use this method on a regular base including restarting Bridge
holding down option key to refresh preferences, this gives a fresh start for
    Bridge.
I mainly use Bridge for sorting, rating and adding metadata and once the DNG
files I want have been developed they are transferred to my archive and
don't need to be in the cache file anymore
So with keep in mind that you need to recache the current files you are
using (takes some time depending on amount and size of the files you can
safely delete the current huge cache file.
Can I get rid of this (safe to delete)?  Why does it build up so much?  Do I
need to periodically manage this manually?

  • Why i am always ask to purge my cache in adobe bridge?

    adobe bridge

I have gone to the Bridge preferences and purged my cache several times and that has not done anything to rectify the situation.
You still haven't provided much information (what computer, how much RAM, how much free space left etc etc.)
But in general, the central cache sometimes get corrupted, purging it in prefs is not always the solution, you might try it manual yourself. Quit Bridge and go to your user library (by default hidden, use Finder, menu Go with option to reveal) and inhere find the folder Caches / Adobe/ Bridge CC. In this folder are two files, a plug in and a folder called Cache. Drag both files outside the library, preferable trash, and restart Bridge to create both earlier deleted files again as new, fresh but empty files. Take a bit of time to recache your folder and try if this solved the problem.

  • Dialog box says-"Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. ... purge central cache" For one, I can't find the central cache and two, I've purged the cache in bridge. Shouldn't that help.

Our Bridge has been acting very strange. It keeps giving a dialog box of "Bridge encountered a problem and is unable to read the cache. ... purge central cache" For one, I can't find the central cache and two, I've purged the cache in bridge. Shouldn't that help? There's just all kinds of weird stuff going on. I suppose it does have something to do with the central cache, so maybe someone can tell me where to find it.
When I use the burn/dodge tool sometimes it drags and staggers and takes forever to complete whatever I'm burning/dodging. When I try to delete an image from the dock, it won't disappear but it won't display either.
    Any help would be appreciated.

The Central Cache is the Bridge Cache.
It's referred as the Central Cache to differentiate it from the individual folder's cache or even the individual image cache.

Maybe a Preferences reset can help:
Numerous program settings are stored in the Adobe Bridge preferences file, including display, Adobe Photo Downloader, performance, and file-handling options.
Restoring preferences returns settings to their defaults and can often correct unusual application behavior.
Press and hold the Ctrl key (Windows) or the Option key (Mac OS) while starting Adobe Bridge.
In the Reset Settings dialog box, select one or more of the following options:
      Reset Preferences
Returns preferences to their factory defaults. Some labels and ratings may be lost. Adobe Bridge creates a new preferences file when it starts.
    Purge Entire Thumbnail Cache
Purging the thumbnail cache can help if Adobe Bridge is not displaying thumbnails properly. Adobe Bridge re-creates the thumbnail cache when it starts.

I also downloaded the entire suite and installed. Do I need to uninstall all of the programs before installing the suite? There is not an option to install only Bridge from the install package.

  • Why do I get an error message about 'purging the central cache' everytime I open Bridge?

Whenever I open Bridge I get an error message about the cache not being able to be read and that I should try purging the central cache in Cache Preferences.
I've looked at the Cache Preferences and purged the cache as it suggested, but this message comes up every time I open Bridge. Any help gratefully received.
    Cheers,
    Cathie

Your central cache file seems corrupted and you ave to delete this manual. Regarding your screenshot you seem to be on a Mac.
Per OSX 10.7 the user library is hidden, if you don't have your user library in view use menu go in Finder with option key to reveal this library.
Quit Bridge, go to your user library (user (your username) / library / Caches/ Adobe/ Bridge CSxx (your version) and inhere are a plug in file and a folder called Cache.
Drag both files outside of the library (preferable to the trash) and restart Bridge. This creates both deleted files again but the cache folder is empty and you need to recache your files again (takes a bit of time) but then you should be OK.
