Clear history also clears search history

I've finally "upgraded" (if you would call it that) to Safari 5. After figuring out how to disable "top sites", I was almost happy (other than several crashes per day). One REALLY irritating thing is that when I clear my browsing history, my search history is also cleared. Is there a way to clear these two histories independently? Often I want to clear my browsing history but like my search history there to remind me of stuff.

HI,
You can clear history Manually from Safari / Preferences - General but not independent of one another.
There might be a productivity Safari Extension available though...

  • Firefox 8.1 downloaded today. Clearing everything, the Form & Search History will NOT clear. In 8.0 it did. Why now with 8.1?

Same question which I've already posed. IF I can be supplied with a working email addy - I'd be happy to include some screen shots illustrating exactly what it is I'm asking here... Please send me an email addy to continue. Thanks.
I mechanically clear EVERYTHING often when browsing. What I'm getting live arrows on for a Clear are:
    Browing & Download History
Form & Search History (this is the ONE NOT working, no hot arrow)
    Next is Cookies
    then Cache
    Then Active Logins
Then finishes up with Site Preferences.
IT IS THE FORM 7 SEARCH HISTORY which won't clear using new Firefox 8.1 where in 8.0 it did. Thanks.

You can attach images to posts (and replies) here. There's a box to upload them.
There was only one mac-affecting change made in 8.0.1 which involved preventing a crash in the latest Java plugin. No other changes were taken. If you don't have the option to clear Form & Search History, this may be because you don't have any? Another possibility is that you have an extension that's preventing it. Can you go to Help > Troubleshooting information and paste here the extensions section?

  • I am unable to search my history in the Search History feature as when i type a term the history list goes blank labeling "no items." Is there a reason for this and a way i can search my history to find specific sites and content??

When i try to search for specific sites whether to find something or group together a list of sites from the same site, etc, after i type in a term in the Search History box, nothing appears. When i click the empty area it says "no item selected" at the bottom. However i can still search my bookmarks. Just wondering if there's a way to fix this.

It seems to have worked itself out. Thanks anyway!

  • I am unable to clear Bing search history. Bing says this is an issue with Firefox.

I recently found that I was able to clear my Bing.com search history with the exception of five searches all done on one day. Attempts to clear give this message "We can't clear your search history right now. Please try again later." Nor am I able to clear the searches individually.
Bing customer service suggested it was related to Firefox. I uninstalled Firefox and opened the site with another Browser. No change.
Any suggestions as to how to deal with this problem.

So both browsers you tried give the identical error message that Bing is unable to clear the history right now? It does sound like a Bing problem in that case.
Note: I assume this is history on the Bing website, and not Firefox's search bar or a Bing toolbar.

How do I clear my "Google Voice Search" history ?

Thanks, Ray, but that only gets me partial info.  I want to be able to look at a summary of all calls I made in a billing cycle for total time I used the landline.  I am trying to see if a cell phone plan would work for the amount of time I use.  So far, all I can find is a summary for this billing cycle.  I have pdf records of all Comcast bills for the last couple of years, but they do not have this data in them.okay, you want "everything" then....   online only offers a 90 day window I believe, so you are looking for ALL of your call records for placed calls....   I don't know if a CSR on the phone would undertstand that or even know where to point you, but you can try sending an email from my macro below: Send an email to:
    [email protected]
Include all of your information, full name, service address, phone numbers where you can be reached easily, as well as the phone number associated with your account, your account number, and details about all the issues you have been having. Also include a link to this post.

  • How do I clear or remove "Places" search?

    Motorola Razr Maxx HD
My phone came equiped with numerous applications one of which is an app titled "Places" I conducted a search of a number of businesses and those search lists still appear when I access the "Places" app and depress the magnifying glass search icon. I want to remove or clear all of the locations listed but can find no way to do so.
Steps I have taken so far:
Spent one and one half hours conducting research on the Internet with no success.
Representative at Verizon store spend 45 minutes trying to delete the list with no success.
Spent one hour on a chat with Motorola representative who led me through numerous steps with no success
I have opened the app and then depressed the settings button which gave options to clear cache. That did not work. A message below the clear cach button indicated that I should perform the action through system settings but.............The "Places" app is not shown in the list of apps running on my phone and in addition is not listed under the "all" tab in "manage apps".. So far, the "experts" are dumbfounded and so am I. Does anyone have a solution? I can't even delete the app because there are no options to delete or disable within the app itself.
If someone responds, hope I can find the response since this if first time I have used this forum.

I believe clearing hte Google Maps search history will solve your porblem. Reading your entire post it appears you have not tried this yet.

    Clear Maps data and history
Google Maps stores items you’ve searched for to make it easy to search for them again later. You can clear your search history in the Settings application.
    Open your device's Settings application
    Select Applications > Manage applications.
    Touch the All tab.
Touch Maps in the scrolling list.
    Touch Clear data.
WARNING: Clear data is not a reversible action.
    Good Luck!

  • Feature Request: I want Firefox 4 to remember search history, but not form data, without having to use a third-party plug-in. Is this possible now and I am just not seeing it?

I don't like having Firefox (or any browser for that matter) remembering any form history, as I do not see this as secure data storage (IT security/network engineer). Currently the only way to disable this is to also disable search history, which is a useful tool to have, and I am not worried about the security of that data (I don't search for sensitive data). I would like to see these two options under the Privacy->Custom Settings Preference to be separated so that people can more finely control what of their data is stored.
Is this possible without the use of third-party plugins?

    Wow. Okay...
I'll let the real veterans in this forum tackle your issues one after the other. But, I can tell you, all will be well.
My only comment would be re: your computer specs:

.  This may be due to somewhat older equipment:

To be completely honest, FCPX is a RAM hog. It just is. But, RAM is relatively cheap, and the pay-off is good.
4GB is right on the edge, IMHO. 16G is ideal.
I wish you luck, hang in there, and standby for more help.

  • The "Clear Search History" feature in the upper right drop-down menu no longer works in Firefox 4.

The "Clear Search History" feature in the upper right drop-down menu that shows search terms no longer seems to work in Firefox 4.

It is possible that there is a problem with the file that stores the "Saved Form" data.<br />
Rename or delete formhistory.sqlite (plus formhistory.sqlite-journal and formhistory.sqlite.corrupt and formhistory.dat, if they exist) in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder] in case there is a problem with the file that stores the "Saved Form" data.<br />
This will remove all saved form data, so you may want to rename formhistory.sqlite to formhistory.sqlite.sav or move the file to another folder in case you need to recover some saved data.
You may also need to delete search.sqlite and search.json in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder]

  • I am unable to clear "Form & Search History" because that option is not available. How do I unclick it?

When I close Firefox, I clear everything except the "Form & Search History" which is greyed-out so I can't access it. Also, the options I can choose are not saved by Firefox.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]

  • In my subject fields in Gmail, I want to clear all memory like all history of subjects , not from the search bar.

In Gmail, in the subject bar, I need to delete all prior subjects. Also, delete from the Google search bar. Right click does NOT show clear history.

Entries in the location bar drop down list with a yellow (blue on Mac) star at the right end are bookmarks.<br />
You can remove such a bookmarked item that shows in the list if you open that url in a tab and click the yellow star in the location bar.<br />
This will open the Edit This Bookmark dialog and you can click the Remove button to remove the bookmark if you want to remove such a bookmarked entry.<br />

  • How clear search history Google?

How do I clear my search history in Google?
I think Safari alone keeps this, and it pollutes searches down the road. thanks.

Actually, the only "solution" would be for Apple to revert to the option to clear the search results from the Google search bar, which was in Safari 3.x.x. Since we have no idea whether or not they will in a future release, the two solutions I gave you will stop it from being written at all.
There is an entry for that in the Safari .plist file, but unless you know what you're looking for and have an editor to read display the file in text format, you can't get rid of that; even if you did, you'd still need to Lock the file to prevent it from being written back.
Locking your History file will also stop the History from being stored.
Those are the only options we have, so take your pick.

  • How to restore search history tabs; disappeared after I cleared search history; can't restore tabs!

I recently cleared my search history - I deleted everything - but now my search history tabs (that were generated after each search) have disappeared, and I can't restore them no matter what I do. Also, under "History", "restore previous session" and "recently closed windows" are gray, and so can't be selected. I've "reset" Firefox to "default" status twice to no avail...help! I need those tabs!

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode.

  • Safari search history not clearing

I have a first gen iphone. I've tried everything from going through the settings and clearing the history, cookies, and cache. Also rebooted, restored and still the history is there when I do a search. How do i completely erase the on phone search history?

Disregard, the only solution I found to this was to go through Settings/General/Reset/Reset all Settings. Kind of a pain if you ask me but since I'm a first gen owner it's kind of refreshing to go through and re-set all previous settings and find some little nifty things out about the past updates.
