Clear history hangs in version 25

When clearing history, hang occurs.
OS: fedora 13
(no, the problem is not my outdated os)
Everything worked great for years.

I have this problem, and it is most definitely NOT normal. It's fairly new, don't know which version it began with, but it's a real issue. I have OS X 10.6.8 on an iMac. I have FF 26, this has been happening for several versions now. I almost never can clear history, even just to empty the cache, without FF hanging. It happens whether I have a lot in history or almost nothing. Sometimes I get the non-functioning script message, sometimes not, but clicking Cancel Script or Continue makes no difference anyway. And when FF hangs, I have to Forcequit FF - which always shows up as not responding. And get this: when I Forcequit, it puts my computer to sleep! It all goes black and shuts down, but not off. Can't wake it with the keyboard or mouse - I have to press the power button and release quickly. This is bizarre, and no, I don't have any bugs or viruses. Mozilla introduced this glitch a while back and it's about time they dumped it.

Hi Frank,
Does this Release Management performance isssue occurred when you use it at first time? Do you have any setting on your TFS? Would you please tell us your TFS version?
If you have any repro steps, please share with us, thank you.
Best Regards,
Dear Molly,
Yes, this issue has occurred right from the beginning when we started using Release Management.
Could you please clarify what you mean by "do you have any setting on your TFS"? As far as I know, our TFS installation is a straightforward and normal one.
Our TFS version is TFS 2013.
The steps to reproduce (in the simplest scenario) are as follows:
Create a new project in Visual Studio 2013, containing one PowerShell script file. In the script file, perform a simple command such as "New-Item E:\Temp3 -itemtype directory -force".
Perform a successful build of the project, making sure that the script file is copied to the drop folder.
Create a vNext Component in the Release Management Client, that refers to the directory in the drop folder that contains the script file.
Create a new vNext Release Template in the Release Management Client, containing one "Deploying using PS/DSC" action. In that action, set the PSScriptPath to the script file we created.
Perform a new Release using the Release Template we just created. The Deploy action will take a long time, even though the script itself takes less than a second to run.
Please let me know if you need any more information.

You can retrieve the certificate and check who issued the certificate.
* Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
* Click the "View..." button to inspect the certificate and check who is the issuer.

• Each time I attempt to use the "Clear history" option I get this. chrome://browser/content/sanitize.js:136

This only began with the last two versions of Firefox. The computer then hangs up and runs slower than my original Tandy Radio Shack from 1984 with tape.

That can be caused by clearing the cookies via "Clear Recent History".
* https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Clear+Recent+History
* Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history" > [X] Clear history when Firefox closes > Settings
* Firefox > History > Clear Recent History or Tools > Clear Recent History
If you use "Clear Recent History" to clear the cookies then Firefox also tries to clear the cookies from plugins like Flash (LSO) and starts a plugin-container process for each plugin and that can add extra time and can cause an unresponsive script error to appear.
Make sure that all plugins are up to date.
Try to exclude the cookies to see if that helps.
Let all cookies expire when you close Firefox to remove unwanted cookies and keep the ones with an allow exception.
Make sure that you do not clear the "Site Preferences" as that will remove all exceptions.
* Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Keep until": "I close Firefox"

Make sure you have the latest iTunes version installed and hopefully you have the most recent backup of your iPhone.  Do a DFU restore.  While it's plugged in to your computer, press and hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons together until the screen is off.  When the screen's off, release only the Sleep/Wake button and keep holding down the Home button.  Wait until you see in iTunes on your computer to show that it detected it in recovery mode.  When it does, proceed with the restore.  It will be restored and updated to the latest iOS 7.0.2.  If you have a backup, restore from that backup once iOS 7.0.2 is successfully installed on your iPhone.
If your iPhone still won't activate, I agree with gail, you will have to get in touch with that developer.

• Having trouble connect consistantly with websites, clear history then it works and an hour later, need to do the same thing (clear history to connect)

Just purchased new laptop with Windows 8, loaded firefox for browser as have always used in other computers. Am having trouble accessing websites, for example when I go to my gmail gmail.com, an error comes up that it can't access the website, check connections. But if I go and clear history, includidng the cache, then close Firefox and reopen and then try it works. Then I'll move onto other things and go back and it still works. Not sure what is the trigger, but when I try to go back to my gmail for example.(as it happens on other sites as well, my banking, my facebook, etc) I get that error again, I then have to again clear history,...then everything works!!! It's very frustrating as I have to clear history at least a dozen times per day! What is happening!

Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox and any leftover program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps one by one:
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu) and confirm all upcoming messages.
#Now, uninstall Firefox by following the steps mentioned in the Uninstall Firefox article.
IMPORTANT: On Windows, the uninstaller has the option to remove your personal data and settings. Make sure that you do not check this option; otherwise all of your bookmarks, passwords, extensions, user customizations and other Firefox user profile data will be removed from your computer.
After uninstalling Firefox on Windows, delete the "Mozilla Firefox" program folder, located by default in one of these locations:
* (On 32-bit Windows) C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
* (On 64-bit Windows) C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#Go to the Windows Start menu and click on "Computer".
#In the Explorer window that opens, double click Local Disk (C:) to open the C:\ drive.
#Find the "Program Files (x86)" folder or "Program Files" folder.
#* On 32-bit Windows, double-click the Program Files folder to open it.
#* On 64-bit Windows, you will see a "Program Files (x86)" folder AND a "Program Files" folder. Open the Program Files (x86) folder.
#Look for a Mozilla Firefox folder. If you find one, right-click it and select Delete and confirm that you want to move the folder to the Recycle Bin.
Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
#Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
#Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!

• Why is Private Browsing better than just clearing History daily?

I heard that you should do your online banking and other financial activities in Private Browsing mode. I always clear history when I turn off the computer anyway. And getting the Private Browsing to accept my previously bookmarked locations has been unsuccessful. I can re-bookmark from Private Browsing, of course. But I just wondered if this is really necessary, or more for folks with computers on networks, or shared computers?
You may not get at my computer--troubleshooting information. I'm using Windows 7 operating system and the latest version of Mozilla Firefox.

You aren't on the latest version of Firefox, please update to Firefox 22 Update Firefox to the latest version (you are on Firefox 21).
There is no real difference between using Private Browsing and clearing your history everyday, it's just personal preference around workflows.

• Clear history is not working

I have used Firefox for years and have always set the Privacy tab to "Clear history when Firefox closes". Tonight for some reason it started not working. After closing Firefox I can open it up again and am signed in on all my websites. As you can imagine, this is kinda startling. How to fix?
I just realized this started happening pretty much moments after I installed QuickTime, I don't know if this is related.

I'm not sure if "hang" is the right word, but occasionally Firefox will not close after I click "x" and no matter how long I wait to start a new session, I get a message that tells me it's still running. I have to open Windows Task Manager to close it manually in those cases. This was simply that the Privacy settings were not working the way I had them set up for years. After I turned my computer off last night and on this morning, it seems to be fine now.

• MY history does not clear when i select clear history +clear is on"everything" ?

clearing history does not work anymore, I select the option to clear everything. In order to clear history I have to go under show all history and delete each individual item

I have the latest version. I have History only selected. When I manually select Clear Recent History, it deletes some items but not everything. I just performed Clear Recent History and 8 sites are still showing up. None of them are in my Bookmarks and most of them I haven't visited in weeks. It is a real pain finding the sites that I would like to select when all this garbage fills up the list.

• Firefox is running so slow even after clearing history, cookies, and cache

My firefox browser suddenly started running very slow. I have cleared history, cookies, and cache. I have run scans, and even tried to uninstall and reinstall. it is still running slow

flytnn,
after a fresh install, Spotlight will need to reïndex the files on your internal disk — that happens each time a fresh installation takes place.
I see that you have OS X 10.9.2 installed. Are you planning on installing the 10.9.3 update?
Your installed version of Java is outdated — the most recent version can be downloaded from here.

Also, it seems to randomly go into silent mode, even when my profile is set properly? this is a new phone, had it less than a month, surely there cant be anything that wrong with it, other than user error hehe!

• How do I clear history? why can't I clear history?

1 I cannot download latest update I click on it but it never finds the server
2 - I cannot clear history - when I try - nothing happens
3 - my computer / macbook pro is so slow now - what's happening?

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then best is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox application and save the disk image file to the desktop
*Firefox 35.0.1: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
*Trash the current Firefox application (open the Applications folder in the Finder and drag the Firefox application to the Trash) to do a clean (re)install
*Install the new version that you have downloaded
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Installing+Firefox+on+Mac
Your personal data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data when you uninstall and (re)install or update Firefox.

• How do I clear history while usins 5.0. Current article regards 4.0. no help

How do I clear history using 5.0? current article regards version 4.0

I see you are using a Linux distro, but please note the current Firefox release is now Firefox 11. What exactly are you trying to clear for instance:
* History as shown in the History library
* Results shown on location bar, originating from History
* Cache entries
* something else
What is the article that you are reading ?
* have you seen clear recent history<br/> (I recall minor changes in wording of menus but not too sure on which versions.)
What version of Linux and what desktop are you using ? <br/>( I am using Ubuntu 11.10 with a Unity desktop and Firefox 11. )

• Can you block the clear history function on safari?

how do you block the clear history function and is it possible to limit the number of places visited in the history?

I don't believe that you can "block" the clear history function but you can set the limit for the number of places visited in history.
I don't know what OS or Safari versions you are using but select the appropriate version of "Safari Enhancer" at the authors website.

• I do not appear to have the "main" Firefox tab in the top left corner to enable me to clear history. I have reinstalled FF but it is still not there.

In the Firefox help video they show a Firefox icon in the very top left of the window. This is a drop down tab where one of the items is the clear history option. I do not have this tab and have tried reinstalling Firefox but it is still not there. On the video it is shown above the File / Edit / View etc options.

If you don't have the Firefox button, you're using the classic view. To restore the new view of Firefox (Changed in Version 4):
* View > Toolbars > Menubar [Uncheck]
In Firefox 6 you can use this to clear your history/other offline content:
Click on the Firefox button on top left part of your browser:
* History > Clear Recent History
There you can select what you want to clear.
If you want to see the menu bar you can press alt on your keyboard so you can see file/view/...
Also for activating it to always be there follow this (Classic view of Firefox):
* Firefox > Options > Menu Bar
Don't forget to hit the 'Solved it' button if this solved your problem so the topic will be closed.
