Clear Quiz slide On Enter

Hi there, im having trouble with my latest project in Captivate 5 (win7).
Sometimes after hitting Back button - project takes me back to previous question slide and i cant change my answer, use Clear button or click Submit again..so im stucked.
Is there some way to set "On Enter" parameter to clear question that way i can chose new answer and hit submit again?
THX Martin

That's the way Captivate 5 works.  If you answer a quiz question and then leave the question slide, your answer is locked in and you cannot change it.  There is no Advanced Action available to reset the question, however, the Retake Quiz button you can set for the Quiz Results slide will reset all quiz slides in the course so that the user can redo the quiz.
If you are able to upgrade to Captivate 6, there is a new feature that allows you to delay submission of all quiz questions until you are happy with your answers and then submit all of them in one go.  That would probably be your best bet.

  • Course can't be re-opened after quiz section is entered

    Hi,
This is fairly similar to the issue in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3960460#3960460 However, it's worth a new thread, as I redsigned certain aspects of the course following research (including blogs from forum regulars on here).  I'm using Captivate 5.
E-Learning Module:  As before, I have a couple of intro slides, and then a Home screen with links to six different sections.  The user goes through each section and when they click the Home button at the end of the section, an Advanced Action changes a variable called nSection1Complete An advanced action on entry to the Home screen checks the variables and shows an image of a green tick next to each section link if that section is complete.
The sixth section is the Exam, and I've now changed it so that I use the Captivate Quiz Slides for my Exam: 11 slides, all True or False.  I've allowed a user 99 attempts at the Exam.  On Passing, the Continue button should be an Advanced Action to jump to the Home screen and put a green tick next to the Exam section link.  On Failing, a Retake button should appear and the Continue button should simply jump back the Home screen to allow the user to revisit previous sections.
So, in short, I want the user, if they fail, to have the option to retake the Exam again, or revisit previous sections.  I did find that, the images on the Quiz Results screen faded immediately upon entry, but I found that adding a blank slide after the Quiz Results slide stopped that from happening.
The Issue:  After uploading it to the LMS (Cornerstone OnDemand), I've found that if a user closes down the e-learning module after failing the exam, if they try to reopen it, it doesn't.  It just gets stuck at the Loading screen for ages.  A user can close and re-open the course perfectly well up until the point where they enter the Exam section.
Settings:  I've tried this with the four different quiz settings (Optional, Required, Pass Required and Answer All), but while the behaviour does change slightly, the net result is that a user cannot seem to be able to re-enter the e-learning if they close the module down after failing the quiz.
Does anybody have any suggestions at all?  Could it be something to do with the fact (I think) that the SCORM publishes details of the users' score after each question, rather than at the end of the Exam?  If so, is there an easy way to change this?
I'm really stuck, and any pointers or suggestions would be gratefully received.
    Thanks!

I've figured this out, and thought I'd post the solution here, in case anyone else comes across this issue.
The problem revolves around the fact that Captivate is a bit buggy when dealing with backwards movement and quizzes.  My slide navigation basically meant that users had to Go through three Intro slides before getting to the Home screen.  From the home screen, they clicked links to six different sections in order, the final section being the Exam section.  Because the Home page was the fourth slide in the Captivate slide, if a user failed the quiz and returned to the Home slide, the course was a bit buggy as noted in my post above.
To get around this problem, I simply moved the Exam slides to before the Home page, and set the Quiz to be Option - user can skip.  The user then jumped forward to the Home page.  This means that when a user fails the exam and goes to the Home screen, they are actually going forward, not backwards.  This subtle change, which is completely not noticeable by the user, has completely resolved the issue.

  • Can you make buttons appear "on success" on quiz slide?

I'm not an expert Captivate user and don't know Javascript, so please excuse my ignorance if this question seems strange.
I have a Captivate 6 project with several quiz slides peppered throughout the entire file. In other words, the quiz slides are not grouped together. Each slide, including the quiz slides, has a forward button and a back button.
I would like for users to move forward and backward through the presentation in a linear fashion as they like, and this is working well. However, it would be nice if users weren't able to skip answering the quiz questions. I would like the buttons to appear after the user has answered the quiz question correctly, and then I would like the buttons to stay on the slide thereafter.
Is this possible? Do you have a Javascript resource I could use for the "on success" action, or what other solutions do you recommend?
    Thank you!

    Hello,
When you are talking about the default buttons Back and Next that you find on question slides, you don't have much control over them. As you probably did see they do not even appear as separate objects on the timeline. And I doubt that Javascript could realize what you want.
Try first to understand how the work flow of question slides is designed:
    http://blog.lilybiri.com/question-question-slides-in-captivate
You can drag the Next button under the Clear button (see blog post), normally Next during a Quiz is not needed, since the second step (Press Y or click on the slide) will move to the next slide.
However the Back button is a more tricky button if you really want to have it. Maybe, didn't check it out, try to hide the back button to the user (make it transparent without a stroke) and have an image appear on top of that button after the first step on the question slide. The invisible Back under the image will remain active, it even has absolute priority over other objects.

  • Quiz slides inserted in project; subsequent slide has audio

    Hi,
I inserted a couple of quiz slides, true/false and multiple choice, in between 2 regular slides that have audio. When I run my project, I see the quiz slide, but the audio plays as if the quiz slides are not there. In other words, the audio for the subsequent slide plays while the quiz slide is displayed. For example:
    Slide 1 has audio
    Slide 2 is quiz
    Slide 3 is quiz
    Slide 4 has audio
When I play, my audio goes from slide 1 to slide 4, while displaying slide 2
I know I must have some basic setting incorrect. My quiz slides are set to On Success - Continue. The surrounding slides are set to On Enter - Continue, On Exit - No Action.
    Help!

In Captivate you can insert audio on objects, on a single slide, and across multiple slides.
Is it possible that your audio has been inserted to span more than one slide instead of slide-by-slides?
If for example you had originally added your audio to a number of timed slides, and then inserted more slides in between, you may have confused Captivate as to where the audio needed to play.
I may be on the wrong track here but thought it worth suggesting.

  • Positioning quiz slide objects

I am working on a Captivate 5 project with many quiz slides. The quiz slides were put into the project by someone else. I need to move the various quiz slide objects (submit button, back button, clear button, question text, review area, hint caption, and so forth).
These objects need to be moved to the same position in all of the quiz slides. I've been moving these objects into place one by one and it is very tedious.
Is there a way to set up a style to move all of these objects on all quiz slides at once?

Each of the objects you mention on the quiz slide are a special type of object in Captivate.
So although Object Styles do not allow you to specify the X and Y coordinates of an object, you CAN just move one of these objects on one slide to the location you want them all to be, and then go to the Position and Size accordion in the Properties tab (Transform accordion in Cp5.5), look for the small dropdown in the top right corner of the accordion, and choose the option to Apply to all items.
The name is a bit misleading because it make you think this will actually apply the positioning setting to every item in the project.  But the fact is that it will only apply it to items OF THE SAME OBJECT TYPE. So although you would never do this for something like text captions in the main part of your project, you can safely do it for things like Submit, Clear, Back, and Next buttons in quiz slides because each of them are actually totally different object types as far as Captivate is concerned.
Note also the option to Apply to all items of same style.  This means you can create custom styles and apply them to just certain buttons or captions if you only wanted SOME items to be positioned in a certain way, while all other items should retain their original positions.

  • Captivate 4 Quiz Slides - Misnumbering?

    Hi Everyone,
I am using Captivate 4 after recent Captivate 3 upgrade.
My quiz slides are "misnumbering." They appear fine in Editing mode (i.e. "1 out of 5"), but when I preview them - and even when I publish the project and load it to the LMS, the slides read "1 out of 35" or something like that.
To cap it off, even if the user gets the 5 questions correct, they still fail because of the misnumbering of the questions (for some reason, the system sees them as needing to complete 35 questions.)
Folks - there are only 5 questions. The slides are right in Editing mode. These are my first projects with Captivate 4 (rather than 3), and I'm both dumbfounded and unimpressed.
    Any ideas????

    Hi there
Likely you have Click Boxes sprinkled through the project with reporting enabled.
Tap the F9 key and the Advanced Interaction dialog should display.
Clear the check boxes and you should be golden.

  • Why do quiz slides not work in LMS?

Using Captivate 7. Scorm 2004. I added three multiple choice quiz slides to the course, interspersed between content pages, to act as review questions. Each quiz slide has a Submit and a Clear button.
When I reloaded the updated course, now with the quiz slides, to the LMS (Cornerstone -stage environment), the options on the quiz slides are not clickable and the Submit and Clear buttons are missing.
    My settings are:
Completion - based on slide views - 100%
Success - based on slide views - 100%
Quiz - "Optional - user can skip"
      Pass/Fail - 0% required to pass
If Failing: Allow infinite attempts - checkbox (but I've also tried 1 attempt)
    Thanks!

Thanks, Lieve. Actually, I think the reason that the LMS did not correctly display the quiz slides is because it had already marked me as "complete" (I had taken the course multiple times previously.) Plus in all the various versions I re-loaded to our Stage environment, I kept changing quiz settings, etc., and I think the poor LMS was just so confused. So after I made a few more changes to the course (see below) and logged in as a different user, the course and quiz slides displayed correctly.
I made these changes to quiz settings in Captivate:
      - I based completion on only "Slides viewed" -- not on "Quiz is passed"
      - On the "Pass or Fail" settings, I changed "Go to next slide" to "Continue"
and under  "If failing grade," I changed "1 attempt" to "infinite attempts."
I also removed the reportable click box from slide 1.
So I'm not sure which of these changes solved the problem, but the course is working correctly now, thankfully.

  • The answers questions not selectable in quiz slide for some users

We have a SCORM Captivate training content published on our LMS (SAP Learning Solutions). Some users can't respond to any questions in the content. For these users, the answers are locked and are not selectable. Also, the Validate and Erase buttons didn't appear.
The problem concerns about 10% of our users.
This training contains both content slides and quiz slides.
The content is published in SCORM 1.2 (SWF + HTML) with Adobe Captivate 5.5. We had the same problem for some users with the previous version of this training content published with Captivate 4.
All users have the same settings:
    Flash Player 10.3.183.11
    Internet Explorer 6
    Microsoft Windows XP

The most likely reason for this behaviour is that your 10% of users have entered the quiz and then thought they might jump back to the information slides to check the answer.  On doing so they have exited the quiz scope which immediately locks the quiz.
Have you actually watched these problem users complete the quiz?  If you are able to do so, make sure that once they start the first question, they answer all quiz questions in turn without jumping to any other slides or leaving the quiz.  If my hunch is right, the person will be able to successfully complete the quiz.
If the desire is to allow users to jump back to the content section to check information, place a scored button on the first or second slide of your project.  This extends the quiz scope and will mean that the user is still within the "quiz" no matter what slide they want to look at.

  • Quiz slide next button...two clicks?

Okay.  Having a weird issue I'm not sure if it's universal or fixable or what.  Have you guys experienced this?
On my quiz slides, there's a little bit of a hitch between selecting the correct answer and progressing to the next slide.  You get the success caption "good job, hit next to continue."  The hitch is that it actually takes two clicks to progress to the next quiz slide.  The first click clears the success caption, the second click actually progresses the slide.  Is there a reason I'm having to click twice?  Is this a universal oddity?  Can I fix it so that the success caption clears and the slide progresses with just one click?
    Thanks in advance,
    Eric

Here are screenshots of the timeline and quiz properties panel.  I have the pause moved over and the On Success set to go to next slide...  I'm still getting the double click hitch.  Note:  The grouped smartshapes are actually custom navigation buttons.  I'm not using the next button generated by captivate.  Could that be the issue?  I didn't think it was the cause because we had the same problem with the automatically generated buttons as well.

  • Quiz Slide - Review Area

    Rick,
What is the purpose of the Review area on the quiz slide?
Most of the time, I shrink it very small and out of the way. What
    can I use it for?
    Angie

    Hi there Angie
Just a note here. While I do tend to be prolific with
answering and responding to forum posts, there are many folks here
    that help other than me.
As for your question, here is how it works. When you have a
quiz with question slides, you have correct and incorrect answers
for each question. You also have an ability to enable the user to
perform a review of the quiz. So once the questions are finished
and they see the results screen, if you have allowed reviewing,
there should be a button on that slide that allows them to review
the questions. When clicked, they are transported to the first
question. The Review area is where they see the messages pertaining
    to the question.
Does that make things clearer? If not, post back with where
things are still hazy and one of us will try to 'splain it better.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Quiz Slide Buttons - not holding size in live slide

I apologize if this has been asked many time. I searched the discussions and found nothing.
My quiz slide buttons, CLEAR, BACK, NEXT, SUBMIT are for some reason now smaller in dimension than they were in my project. Now ALL quiz slides render them very small as a default. Whenever I adjust them, both in the Master slide design and in the filmstrip breakpoint slides they do not hold their shape or dimension sizes I adjust them to. The view and size in the Master slide looks right but when  I go to FilmStrip they are small. They also are left justified instead of center.
I went into the Themes/Object Style Manager and tried to make adjustment there. It will not give me an option to center the text or adjust the size of the buttons. I am using the "Default Quiz Button Style". The way it was originally provided in Captivate settings.
I also even tried to override this by creating my own image buttons which were of the same dimenstion that the default settings Captivate has for the Default Quiz Button Style which were 170x43px. Even those are shrinking very small.
    Any suggestions?  Thanks.

I have only the font size available to adjust. I do not see any alignment choices. Please see screen shot.

  • Review Quiz skips over the first quiz slide during the review.

I created a project with 2 quiz slides and a quiz results slide.  When I review the quiz at the end of the project it rewinds to the first quiz slide but skips over it and then stops/pauses on the 2nd quiz slide (last slide in this case).  I do not have a transition set for the quiz slides, and the "On Enter" setting is set to continue.  The slide has an infinite number of attempts set for it and the Failure levels is 1.  Report answers is set.  I do not have the LMS reporting set up yet.  I was going to use an internal server or perhaps Moodle if I can get that working.
    Stephen

Did you remove any of the default captions from either of your quiz questions?  If so, delete those quiz question slides and add new ones from scratch.  Then test to see if the issue is resolved.

  • Question on Quiz Slides

Does anyone know how to make the NEXT button on quiz slides appear after you hit the correct answer instead of displaying on the slide the entire time?

    Which version?
During the quiz, the Next button is not necessary at all, it is only meant to be used when the learner wants to skip the question, and it is necessary during review. I will mostly hide the Next button all the time when the Question slides are in Quiz mode, by dragging it under the Clear button. Advancing to the next slide in Quiz time is happening after the second step for submitting (if attempts are exhausted). Check this blog post:
    http://blog.lilybiri.com/question-question-slides-in-captivate
If you put the attempts to infinite on question level, the user will never be able to go to the next slide until he has submitted the correct answer. Is that what you want?

  • Hotspot outside of a quiz slide

There may be an easy answer to this that I haven't been able to discover yet, as I'm fairly new to captivate (so apologies in advance.) Is there a way to set up a clickable hot spot on a slide outside of a quiz slide? I'm building a simulation, and I want the user to click on a specific dropdown. I'd like to set it up so an error message pops up if they do not click on this dropdown. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Okay that kind of worked. I should have clarified a little more in my original post - I have a text entry box where the learner has to enter in a number, and then select the correct drop-down menu. Ideally, I'd like to have it all as one action or step. Where the error message is displayed after they click the drop down (or incorrect drop down) stating they have the wrong number or clicked the wrong dropdown. I played around with the advanced actions and contingent actions and could get the entry box to light up if the number is wrong or missing, but I can't seem to resolve the click box portion of it to work correctly. Any other advice? Thanks again in advance!

  • How do I add interactive objects to a quiz slide?

Hello, I'm having a Captivate 5 problem and can't seem to find an answer on the web or in the forums.  I'm creating a quiz in which I'd like to ask multiple choice questions.  For each answer option I'd like the user to be able to click on something - the answer text, an additional image, something - that would open a web page in a separate browser tab or window.  That new window would contain information related to the linked answer option.  This way the users can assess the relevance of each option in relation to the question.
I've tried using the "Advanced Answer Option" option but that only opens a window when the answer is submitted.  Before I sat down to do this I was thinking I'd just add image buttons on the page, but it turns out that I can't add buttons, text inputs and several other options in a quiz slide.
If anyone has any ideas on how to work around this I'd really appreciate hearing them.  Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Hi Steve, thanks so much for the quick reply!
The Button Widget does the job admirably, I can add it in and even make it invisible with the alpha setting so it appears that an image is the actual link.  Totally lets me do what I wished!
    Thanks again!
