Clear screen from sql file

at sqlplus prompt, I can type either HOST CLS or CLEAR SCREEN and both work..
but when I put either of them in an .sql file and run it from sql with @c:\file.sql
both commands error with:
ORA-06550
PLS-00103 encountered 'CLS' or 'SCREEN'
OS IS Windows 7 with Oracle 11.1.0.6 client
my goal is to run a dbms_output line while in a loop
so the data shows on the screen and refreshes when it is changed
without clearing the screen, it just shows over and over and scrolls by a list of them very fast

Dbms_output does not display anything while the PL/SQL code is running. In fact, it doesn't actually display anything, ever. Dbms_output merely puts text to be displayed into a buffer. When control returns to SQL*Plus, then SQL*Plus displays all of the buffered text together. So if your PL/SQL block consists of a loop that takes 10 seconds per iteration, and you go through the loop 6 times, you will wait a full 60 seconds before seeing any output, and then see all 6 lines as quickly as PL/SQL can display them.

  • How to generate XML file from SQL file !

    I am new to XML publisher. I known one way to generate XML file is register one report file in concurrent manager.
    But I want to generate XML file from sql file.
    Could someone show me how to code in sql file, how to register is in concurrent manager.
    Thanks !

    Hi
    Phew ... not sure we have the space here. So I can point you in the right direction:
    1. XML data generation - there are two packages in the db you can use with a plsql procedure, XMLGEN and SQL XML. You can also use java APIs too. Try checking the db documentation and search for the above methods.
    2. Registering the report - the system administrators guide will provide this info. Hooking the program up with XMLP is covered here - http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/applications/publishing/resource/CM%20Whitepaper5.0.pdf

  • Column heading is not coming while generating a .csv file from .sql file

    Hi all,
    Now since I am able to generate a .csv file by executing my .sql file, the column heading is missing in that. Please advise. I have used the following parameters in my query:
    set linesize 1000
    set colsep ','
    set echo off
    set feedback off
    set pagesize 0
    set trimspool on
    spool /path/file.csv
    select ...... from .... where .....;
    spool off
    exit

    set pagesize 0 <-- your problem
    you must set it into a high value (max value 50000)
    see:
    SQL> select * from dual;
    D
    X
    SQL> set pagesize 0
    SQL> select * from dual;
    X
    SQL> set pagesize 50000
    SQL> select * from dual;

  • Add member in Distribution List from Sql file or Sql Server

    Hi
    I want to add member in Distribution List in MS Exchange 2010 using MS Sql Database file
    How to create connectivity between MS SQL file and MS Exchange 2010 ?
    and manage DL also add and remove member from DL?

    The answer to your question depends on the version of SQL Server and Exchange you are running.  If you have Exchange 2007 or higher, and if you have SQL Server 2010 or higher, you can load support for both in a PowerShell session.  Otherwise, you
    will need to write an application to join the two.  It may be simplest to schedule a flat-file dump from your SQL Server database, and use that to pull DL membership into Exchange - I know several third party corporations that have done this for their
    Exchange 2003 (and earlier) management add-ons.
    And before you ask, it would take too much time for me to explain how you would need to connect to and interact with the SQL Server database using PowerShell (or how to dump a flat-file from it, for that matter) for me to do it here.  I suggest you
    search the web for SQL Server PowerShell or SQL Server export
    for that information.
    Once you have the information from SQL Server, it's a simple task to run Add-DistributionGroupMember to add members and Remove-DistributionGroupMember for DL membership management.  I'll caution you, though - if you are going to do massive updates to
    a large distribution group, it would probably be faster to use DL management in AD.  The reason for this is that you can add or remove several group members at once using the AD toolset, but you can only work with individual members with the above Exchange
    commands.  And working with individual members means enumerating the entire group membership for each update - and with large groups, this takes a lot of time.

  • Can we load data in variable screen from flat file?

    Hello all,
    One of my user once asked me she needs to run a report for some employees, i said you can just type that in employee varaible input box.
    She said I need to run the report and I need it for 120 employees, she has the employee numbers in excel sheet.
    What is the best way of doing this if any ?
    Thanks

    This can be done from a flat file, which has list of all values.
    If you are using Bex 3.5, then we have an icon in variable screen bottom right to upload values, where we can specify the path of the file.

  • Passing params from SQL file to Shell Script and then from Shell to SQL Fil

    Afternoon guys,
    Have a fun question for all you gurus in shell scripting out there. I have a shell script that is calling 2
    different SQL programs. My objective is to pass a variable called request_number from one sql program
    to the shell script and then from the shell script back to another SQL program. I will explain why I
    need this to happen.
    Here is what the shell script looks like which calls sql programs student_load_a.sql and
    student_load_b.sql. Student_load_a.sql basically creates the control file (.ctl) which is needed for the
    SQL*Loader and then student_load_b.sql reads the table that was just loaded and does the main
    processing. My main objective here is to be passing the request_number which is being generated
    using an Oracle Sequence in student_load_a.sql and using this generated number in my main
    processing in student_load_b.sql to select records from the table based on request_number.
    Any ideas ?Any help or recommendations is welcome and appreciated.

  • How can i pass the Input value to the sql file in the korn shell ??

    Hi,
    How can i pass the Input value to the sql file in the korn shell ??
    I have to pass the 4 different values to the sql file and each time i pass the value it has to generate the txt file for that value like wise it has to generate the 4 files at each run.
    can any one help me out.
    Raja

    Can you please more elaberate., perhaps you should more elaberate.
    sqlplus is a program. you start it from the korn shell. when it's finished, processing control returns to the korn shell. the korn shell and sqlplus do not communicate back and forth.
    so "spool the output from .sql file to some txt file from k shell, while passing the input parameters to the sql file from korn shell" makes no sense.

  • SQL bulk copy from csv file - Encoding

    Hi Experts
    This is the first time I am creating a PowerShell script and it is almost working. I just have some problems with the actual bulk import to SQL encoding from the text file since it replaces
    special characters with a question mark. I have set the encoding when creating the csv file but that does not seem to reflect on the actual bulk import. I have tried difference scenarios with the encoding part but I cannot find the proper solution for that.
    To shortly outline what the script does:
    Connect to Active Directory fetching all user - but excluding users in specific OU's
    Export all users to a csv in unicode encoding
    Strip double quote text identifiers (if there is another way of handling that it will be much appreciated)
    Clear all records temporary SQL table
    Import records from csv file to temporary SQL table (this is where the encoding is wrong)
    Update existing records in another table based on the records in the temporary table and insert new record if not found.
    The script looks as the following (any suggestions for optimizing the script are very welcome):
    # CSV file variables
    $path = Split-Path -parent "C:\Temp\ExportADUsers\*.*"

    I can see that the Export-CSV exports into ANSI though the encoding has been set to UNICODE. Thanks for leading me in the right direction.
    No - it exports as Unicode if set to.
    Your export was wrong and is exporting nothing. Look closely at your code:
    THis line exports nothing in Unicode"
    Export-Csv -NoTypeInformation $csvfile -Encoding Unicode -Delimiter $csvdelimiter
    There is no input object.
    This line converts any file to ansi
    (Get-Content $csvfile) | foreach {$_ -replace '"'} | Set-Content $csvfile
    Set-Content defaults to ANSI so the output file is converted.
    Since you are just dumping into a table by manually building a recorset why not just go direct.  You do not need a CSV.  Just dump theresults of the query to a datatable.
    https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/4208a159-a52e-4b99-83d4-8048468d29dd
    This script dumps to a datatable object which can now be used directly in a bulkcopy.
    Here is an example of how easy this is using your script:
    $AllADUsers = Get-ADUser -server $ADServer -searchbase $searchbase -Filter * -Properties GivenName,SN,EmployeeID,objectGUID |
    Where{
    $_.DistinguishedName -notmatch 'OU=MeetingRooms,OU=Users,DC=fabrikam,DC=com'
    -and $_.DistinguishedName -notmatch 'OU=FunctionalMailbox,OU=Users,DC=fabrikam,DC=com'
    } |
    Select-Object @{N='UNID';E={$_.objectGuid}},
    @{N='FirstName';Expression = {$_.GivenName}},
    @{N='LastName';Expression = {$_.sn}},
    @{N=/EmployeeNo;Expression = {$_.EmployeeID}} |
    Out-DataTable
    $AllDUsers is now a datatable.  You can just upload it.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Executing multiple sql statements from a single sql file

    Hi, I am Vijay Krishna.
    I want to drop user, drop tablespace, create tablespace and create user from a single executable file or a single sql file. The command should be in sequence. How can we achieve it? Can I anybody help me in this regard. I want this as soon as possible. It's urgent. Kindly post a reply.
    Also, how can we know the oracle home directory from a java program? The problem is we should know the Oracle home directory and use it for creating the tablespace. In the userinterface we will give just for a new database user creation. I will be really thankfull if anybody can help me in this regard.

    It is showing any error messages.
    I will diplay the entire batch file which we are using.
    sqlplus / as sysdba
    drop user examination cascade;
    drop tablespace examination;
    create tablespace examination
    datafile 'C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata\orcl\examination.dbf'
    size 500M autoextend on;
    create user examination identified by examination
    default tablespace examination
    quota unlimited on examination;
    grant connect, resource to examination;
    exit;
    when i run the batch file from the DOS prompt it is entering into the sql prompt and coming out in a fraction of a second. We are just seeing a screen coming and going. But no error messages are being displayed.
    first we thought that as we are giving the create tablespace and create user in the same file we created another file and tried without having the create commands. Even then the user didn't get dropped.

  • How to execute a script(.sql) file from a PL\SQL procedure

    I would like to know how to execute a .sql file from a stored procedure and the result of it should update a table. My .sql file contains select statements.

    Hi!
    just go through the following piece of code -
    SQL> ed
    Wrote file afiedt.buf
      1  declare
      2    str varchar2(200);
      3  begin
      4    str := '@C:\RND\Oracle\Misc\b.sql';
      5    execute immediate(str);
      6* end;
    SQL> /
    declare
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-00900: invalid SQL statement
    ORA-06512: at line 5ORA-00900: invalid SQL statement
    Cause: The statement is not recognized as a valid SQL statement. This error can occur if the Procedural Option is not installed and a SQL statement is issued that requires this option (for example, a CREATE PROCEDURE statement). You can determine if the Procedural Option is installed by starting SQL*Plus. If the PL/SQL banner is not displayed, then the option is not installed.
    Action: Correct the syntax or install the Procedural Option.
    Regards.

  • Unable to Upload data from text file into BEx Analyzer selection screen

    Hi,
    No response from BEx Analyzer when I am trying to upload around 40,000 material from text file into BEx Analyzer selection screen using "Upload selections" options. But I am able to upload only 10,000 material from text file.  I never faced same kind of issue when I am using BEx Analyzer 3.x.  Please let me know I have to change any settings related to BEx or any other.
    Thanks
    Sri Krishna Ponnada.

    Hello
    It seems you are reaching the .NET memory limitation informed in note 1040454.
    Because 3.5 does not use .NET it can work that.

    Ricardo
