Clear server alert

What is the appropriate way to clear a health alert on an SBS 2011 (Standard) server for the silly Event 2138 from Microsoft-SharePoint Products-SharePoint Foundation for a drive (including a drive that SharePoint does not even use) having less than five
times the size of RAM as free space?  This alert puts the server in Critical status.
Susan Bradley discusses how to disable getting this silly alert in her blog post at
http://msmvps.com/blogs/bradley/archive/2012/01/25/event-2138-drives-are-at-risk-of-running-out-of-free-space.aspx.  I have implemented this fix so that no more of these events will be logged.
However, once an event has been logged the server is placed in critical alert status (the Windows SBS Console, Network tab, Computers subtab shows the server is critical status).  I can clear the alert by disabling including "Immediate action may be
required due to a SharePoint error" event log error in the view notification settings.  However, if I re-enable alerting on that event log error, the server goes back into critical alert status.  I slightly suspect that the only way to permanently
clear this alert is for a SharePoint health check to see the drive with enough free space (which is never going to happen).  I don't know if that specific event log error alert setting is only the silly drive space health check or if other SharePoint
health checks use the same event log error.  (I suspect the latter.)  I would prefer not to disable other (legitimate) SharePoint health checks from notifications.

Hi Darryl:
If you are still watching this, can you advise if the condition has cleared?  There are several conditions that once they make it into the error/event system they take a number of cycles to clear.
It might/will be helpful to others to see if there is any finality to this issue.
Thanks for your attention.

  • Cannot Clear Critical Alert for Physical Standby Databases

    10.2.0.4.0 Grid Control monitoring 10.2.0.4.0 databases and standby databases with 10.2.0.4.0 agents.
    The standby databases are running on Xen guests. The O/S is Red Hat 4 Advanced Server.
    I had a failure of Xen guest on Saturday that caused me to have to rebuild the standby servers. EM Grid Control successfully verifies the configurations and the status is normal for both physical standby databases. (A rebuilt logical standby database shows no alerts.)
    Grid Control database targets page shows a single critical alert for each physical standby database. The alert is for "number of missing media files is 4". The metric graph shows the count as 0 since before the rebuilds. I cannot clear the alerts from the Critical Alerts page. Grid Control reports "The selected alert(s) cannot be manually cleared. They will clear automatically once the metric is no longer in a critical or warning state.".
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Ray Westphal

    Thanks for the reply Anthony.
    The result of the query on both standby databases is '0'. The metric graph also shows the value at '0' since before rebuilds.
    And the OMS db and agents have been reset several times since I posted this.

  • Server Alerts reports "Virus Detected in inbound email" for spam

    I receive hundreds of email every day that a Virus was detected in inbound email.  When checking the contents of /Library/Server/Mail/Data/scanner/quarantine these messages are only spam message, not viruses.  Virus infected messages seem to get placed in /Library/Server/Mail/Data/scanner/virusmails
    I am running on Mavericks Server 3.1.2 (1354517)
    serveradmin -v = Version 10.8 ($revision: 1.13 $ -- May 13 2014)
    Does anyone know how to tune the Server Alerting to properly handle the files in /Library/Server/Mail/Data/scanner so that virusmails are reported as virus's but quarantine is not reported?
    I have searched high and low, and cannot find where this is controlled.  With Mavericks, I no longer see Virus Alerts under the alerts management menu of Server.app
    I checked amavisd configs, as well as many other files under /Library/Server for any references to "quarantine" text, to no avail.
    I dumped all of serveradmin settings, and do not see anything that references quarantine except for the quarantine recipient addresses for spam and viruses.
    Is anyone else experiencing this, or does anyone know how to solve this?
    Thanks in advance.

    I received over 200 spam messages yesterday that got reported as viruses to me, and out of frustration, I discovered a work around.  I don't know if this is the result of a past update, or the steps I used trying to reset the server, but I performed the following and was able to suppress the email alerts.  At the time of my original posting, the Alerts section of the Server.app did not offer any option for disabling the alerts for virus..
    1) Launch Server.app
    2) Select Mail in left pane
    3) Turn off Virus filtering
    4) stop/start Mail server
    5) Turn on Virus filtering
    6) stop/start Mail server
    7) Turn off Spam filtering
    8) stop/start Mail server
    9) Turn on Spam filtering
    10) stop/start Mail server
    11) Select Alerts in left pane
    12) clear all active alert
    13) Under notifications tab, I now saw "Mail" as an option
    13.1) Turn off the alerts for Mail
    Now I don't get spammed with Virus alerts for spam messages.  This is not a fix for the configuration error in the alerting service, but it does stop the admin mailboxes from being flooded with virus alerts for all spam messages.  I cannot confirm if it was the enable/disable of the filtering that added the Mail entry under alert notifications or if it was an update, as I did not check the alerts notifications at the time.  I was frustrated, and desperate for a fix, so I did the first thing that came to mind.  But now my Mail system alerts can be enabled/disabled through server.app so I am happy.  Lets just hope for a classification fix in the Yosemite update coming this fall.

  • Why "slow server alert" when NO running requests and NO open connections??

    The snapshot below says it all.  Why on earth would my dev machine with no running requests, and no open database connections, kick off a slow server alert?
    I will tell you that at the exact same time this snapshot was generated, my other two servers WERE hung and were reporting "Unresponsive alerts", and they connect to the same databases.  I am chasing down a chronic communication failure between our database and web servers where everything with a databae connection gets locked/hung at the same time every night, 7 days a week.  The hang lasts anywhere from a few mins to 40+ mins.
    Is this why my dev server would report slow?  And if so, is it the skimmers or what that's causing a slow server alert??  Would it only report "Unresponsive" if there were actual page requests hanging, vs. a "Slow Server Alert"?
    This is CF10 (update 12) 64-bit on Windows 2008 R2, IIS 7, connecting to separate Oracle 11g server.
    Thanks for any insights.

    I'm pretty sure the problem here is somehow related to my other post, but for shites and grins I would still like to know how I can receive a Slow Server alert when no actual page requests are running and it says there are 0 open connections to any of the datasources.

  • How to clear the alerts in Grid

    Hi,
    Grid version : 10.2.0.5
    1)I would like to clear the alerts older than two days in grid.
    We are monitoring more than 500DB's in grid.Is there any procedure to remove the alerts ?
    2)How to clear or reduce the "All Targets Policy Violations" in grid.
    3)How to clear or reduce the "Security Policy Violations" in grid.
    Please need your help on this.
    Thanks.

    Open your Grid Control Console
    Go to Alerts --> Warning
    Select database and press go
    You will see that the Clean button appear and checkbox for each warning alert that its possible manual clean you will see the checkbox to activate
    The Critical Alerts can't clean manualy.
    OR
    1. Make a SELECT * from MGMT_CURRENT_SEVERITY and show for the TARGET_GUID, METRIC_GUID and KEY_VALUE.
    2. Connect to db user SYSMAN and execute:
    exec EM_SEVERITY.delete_current_severity(TARGET_GUID,METRIC_GUID,KEY_VALUE);
    for example:
    exec EM_SEVERITY.delete_current_severity('0DEB8E6980695B7548CF98871084AD10','F95BA0D95585002889E1ABF92B2DA7C3','SYS');
    3. Wait a few minutes.
    The content of the MGMT_CURRENT_SERVERITY table is displayed as ALERTS or ADDITIONAL ALERTS in EM’s main menu. If you delete the ALERTS only in the MGMT_CURRENT_SEVERITY table, the alert messages appears still in some EM submenus.

    There isn't much information available about this error. So I would suggest you get in touch with Oracle support.

    I have an alert that occurred regarding the count on targets on the agent and it has a future time stamp on it. I have tried to alter the alert metric so it en-compasses the amount of targets hoping that this would clear the alert and then when it had cleared reset the metric to it's original quota.
    Does anyone know how to delete such alerts?
    Thanks to all that can help.

    Try the solution
    1. Make a SELECT * from MGMT_CURRENT_SEVERITY and get the TARGET_GUID, METRIC_GUID and KEY_VALUE.
    2 login as sysman to repository database
    exec EM_SEVERITY.delete_current_severity(TARGET_GUID,METRIC_GUID,KEY_VALUE);
    for example:
    exec EM_SEVERITY.delete_current_severity('0DEB8E6980695B7548CF98871084AD10','F95BA0D95585002889E1ABF92B2DA7C3','SYS');

  • How do I clear old alerts?

    Hi,
    On my Grid Control home page, I have 311 warnings. Some of these warnings are no longer applicable and some of them are on metrics that I am no longer monitoring on. For instance, I am not interested in whether somebody has logged in to a database as the SYS user, especially not when it occurred six weeks ago!
    How can I clear these alerts? Some alerts have a check box beside them, so I can check the check box and click "Clear Alert". For most of the alerts, the check box is greyed out.
    Thank you for any insight on this!
    Maria

    Thank you for your response! I had actually made a search and come across the thread that you are referencing, but I would really like to do this through the front-end at this point, and I am amazed that there doesn't seem to be a simple way to do it! What use is the home page summary if there is so much noise!
    Anyhow, I figured out a way to clear these warnings through the front-end, although not by checking a simple check box and pressing a button, that I would have preferred. I set the threshold of warning and critical to way beyond what is ever likely to happen, and set the collection schedule to once per minute. The alerts cleared. Then, I disabled the collection altogether.

  • Operations that leads to clear server cache

    Hi,
              i want to know what are all operation that lead to clear server cache & Database cache
    Thanks in advance

    --Clear whole SQL Server plan cache
    DBCC FREEPROCCACHE
    GO
    --Clear SQL Server plan cache for a specific database
    DBCC FLUSHPROCINDB (<dbid>)
    GO
     Following operations will  flush the entire plan cache and new batches will require new plans.
    Detaching any database
    Upgrading any database to compatibility level 90 or above on SQL Server 2005 or above
    Running ALTER DATABASE ... MODIFY FILEGROUP command for any database
    Running ALTER DATABASE ... COLLATE command for modifying collation of any database
    Altering a database with any of the following commands will remove all plans cached for that specific database.
    ALTER DATABASE ..... MODIFY NAME
    ALTER DATABASE ..... SET ONLINE
    ALTER DATABASE ..... SET OFFLINE
    ALTER DATABASE ..... SET EMERGENCY
    The following operations will also remove cached plans for a specific database.
    Dropping a database
    Database is auto closed

  • Custom Server Alerts

    I have been writing a host of Disaster Recovery scripts for Mac OS X Server Backing up Wiki Content etc.   I have finally figured out how to send Alerts to my server so I can monitor my scripts in one location and take advantage of Apple's in built Alert mechanisms.
    My scripts currently do the following to send alerts to the Server:-
    /Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/sbin/server postAlert CustomAlert Common subject "<Subject Here>" message "<Message Here>" <<<""
    Has anyone else got some tips on other fields that can be used to send a custom Server Alerts or some tips on how to do this more simply?

    As far as I know, that's the field that is possible to send.

    ORA-24010 encountered when generating server alert SMG-4121
    What does that means ?
    regards,

    This problem comes in a newly installed database following is the discussion in metalink:
    Applies to:
    Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition - Version: 10.2.0.1.0
    This problem can occur on any platform.
    Symptoms
    1. The alert.log reports the following sequence of errors several times:
    Thu Mar 16 13:49:15 2006
    Completed: ALTER DATABASE OPEN
    Thu Mar 16 13:49:16 2006

    ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [kdappurgeostat1], [365002], [], [], [], [], [], []
    2. A local SQLPLUS connection reports "Connected to an idle instance".
    3. The trace file does not report current cursor or current SQL information.
    Changes
    This may be a new database.
    Cause
    Error: ORA-24010
    Cause: The specified queue does not exist.
    Action: Specify a valid queue. Query USER_QUEUES for all the valid queues.
    QUEUE tables were not properly created. On a 10.2.0.3 database, the following standard queues exist:
    SQL> SELECT NAME FROM USER_QUEUES;
    NAME
    AQ$_KUPC$DATAPUMP_QUETAB_E
    AQ$_SYS$SERVICE_METRICS_TAB_E
    SYS$SERVICE_METRICS
    AQ$_ALERT_QT_E
    ALERT_QUE
    AQ$_AQ$_MEM_MC_E
    SRVQUEUE
    AQ$_SCHEDULER$_EVENT_QTAB_E
    SCHEDULER$_EVENT_QUEUE
    AQ$_SCHEDULER$_JOBQTAB_E
    SCHEDULER$_JOBQ
    AQ$_AQ_SRVNTFN_TABLE_E
    AQ_SRVNTFN_TABLE_Q
    AQ$_AQ_EVENT_TABLE_E
    AQ_EVENT_TABLE_Q
    15 rows selected.
    Since this is a new installation with a new database, the proper QUEUE tables should have been created at database creation during execution of catalog and catproc.
    Solution
    To resolve the problem:
    1. SQL> spool output.txt
    2. SQL> @?/rdbms/admin/catalog.sql
    3. SQL> @?/rdbms/admin/catproc.sql
    4. SQL> utlrp.sql
    5. SQL> select comp_name, status from dba_registry;
    (to verify VALID components)
    6. SQL> select owner, object_name, object_type from dba_objects where status = 'INVALID';
    (to verify VALID objects)
    Let us know the status after this fix.

  • SQL Server Alert System: 'Severity 020'

    Hi,
    I received the following alert in our PRODuction database server:
    SQL Server Alert System: 'Severity 020' occurred on server_name
    Cannot attach the file 'DB' as database 'Db'. [CLIENT: xx.xxx.xx.xx]
    Can anyone tell me what this error actually mean?
    Did the database DB got corrupted?

    Hi,
    I only configured the alert. I am trying to find the issue which would have caused this alert in the server.
    Check
    ERRORLOG and see if you have any severity 20 error logged at the same time when you received alert.

  • Clear Acknowledged Alerts in OEM

    Does anybody know how to clear acknowledged alerts in OEM? I had some alerts, and stupidly I clicked Acknowledge, and now I can't use the "Clear Alerts" button on those alerts.
    Very grateful if somebody could explain how to 'un-acknowledge' the alerts so I can clear them.
    Cheers,
    Ben

    Thanks Sulimo,
    If anybody else needs to know how to do this, try this:
    logon to EMREP as sysman (using sqlplus)
    delete from em_severity.delete_current_severity;
    commit;
    There!
